Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The DCP Zone 3 Lohit Matani, who has been addressing complaints and also gathering information regarding criminal activities in slums, held a meeting at Mudaliar Square in Shanti Nagar. The DCP heard the residents voicing out their own grievances and also about the locality. Matani attended around 40 complainants during the meeting.

In the past, he had addressed similar meeting at Gujjarwadi Slum in Ganeshpeth where he also visited people in their homes during his patrolling in the lanes to know their complaints. The police official, also author of three books meant for civil service aspirants, had also convened a meeting in Naik Talao Slums under Panchpaoli Police Station.

The DCP said that his experience of such public meetings at police stations was not motivating as there were instances of pressure groups dominating them with their versions of police working. During the meeting at Mudaliar Square, two such complaints had surfaced that would not have come across otherwise. A woman wanted justice as her family member had committed suicide at Wathoda but suicide note was found at Shanti Nagar and she was stuck in jurisdictional wrangles, he said. Another man wanted the accusation of his possessing narcotics verified that he had agreed with an objective inquiry without supporting any side, said Matani.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Farmer leaders on Monday said that emergency services will not be disturbed during Tuesday’s ‘Bharat bandh’, and appealed to their affiliates to not force anyone to observe the shut down against the three recently enacted agriculture-related laws.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said the Centre will have to accept the farmers’ demand of scrapping the new laws whose passage has sparked protests by thousands of farmers who have been camping at various border points of Delhi for the past 11 days.

The agitating farmers have already announced that they would occupy toll plazas between 11 am to 3 pm during the ‘Bharat Bandh’.

Bhartiya Kisan Ekta Sangathan president Jagjit Singh Dallewala appealed to farmers to maintain peace and to not enter into any scuffle with anyone to enforce the bandh.

“People have been coming out in our support own their own. There is no need to force anyone to observe the bandh,” he said.

“The ‘chakka jam’ will end at 3 pm, but the bandh will be observed through the entire day,” he said.

The farmer leader said the ‘bandh’ will be effective across the country, but the major impact will be felt in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.

“Emergency services, such as healthcare facilities and ambulances, and marriage processions will be allowed during the bandh,” Dallewala said.

“The Modi government will have to accept our demands. We want nothing less than withdrawal of new farm laws,” Rajewal asserted.

He said the Punjabi diaspora in Germany, Australia, the US and other countries will also support the bandh through symbolic protests.

Referring to the Centre’s offer to amend the contentious laws, another farmer leader, Darshan Pal, asked as to why the government was agreeing to amend the laws now after initially claiming they will benefit the peasantry.

“We want the government to reinstate the old farm laws even if the government thinks it is not good for farmers,” Pal also said.

The protest has become a “material force” for the entire country, even for the Punjabi diaspora abroad, he said, and thanked all personalities and sportspersons who have returned their awards in their support.

All India Railwaymen’s Federation’s General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra said all its branches across the country will support the Bharat Bandh.

“The federation will give a call for a rail rook if the farmers’ demands were not me he warned.”

Communist Party of India leader Annie Raja said around 20 lakh members of the National Federation of Indian women across 28 states will participate in the bandh.

Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, are protesting at various border points of Delhi against the new farm laws. Several rounds of talks between the Centre and farmers have failed to break the deadlock.

The government has been defending the laws, saying they will help farmers by bringing in new technology and allow them to sell their produce at better prices.

Nagpur: The Bharat Bandh, called by the farmers’ unions on Tuesday in protest against the three new farm laws implemented by the Centre, evoked mixed response in Nagpur city.

While several traders downed their shutters, markets witnessed hustle bustle as usual. Vendors at Kalamna market — Central India’s largest wholesale market — also came in support of the Bandh with 95 out of 100 shops remaining closed.

Import of 80% crude oil posing biggest problem for nation’s economy: Gadkari

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: “Currently, 80 percent of crude oil is being imported for use in India. This massive quantity of imported crude oil is posing the biggest problem for the nation’s economy. Now, the government is focusing on Atmanirbharta by reducing this import. Biofuel is the best substitute for achieving this goal,” said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday.

Gadkari was speaking at an online training programme on the subject “Regulatory requirements for electric vehicles.” Other dignitaries present on the occasion include Annasaheb Patil, Amit Wardhan, Capt. Ratnaparkhi, Hemant Kabra, D P Saste, Sanjay Ganju and others.

“The colossal import of crude oil is not good for the country. This poses problems for the nation’s economy. The country also faces pollution menace. Hence utilisation of bio fuel is need of the hour. The government is focussing on various kinds of eco-friendly alternative fuels, including ethanol and biodiesel, besides electric vehicles in order to cut air pollution and reduce crude oil imports. India produces sugar, wheat, and maize in sufficient quantities. In this situation, the nation should reduce its dependence on import of crude oil and at the same time help the agriculture sector with ingredients like sugarcane going into manufacturing of ethanol, methanol, CNG and butane,” Gadkari said.

The Union Minister said that electric vehicles are important for the country. The spare parts for electric vehicles are imported from China. This situation must have to be changed, Gadkari said and called upon automobile manufacturers to produce eco-friendly vehicles that can utilise agro-based fuel. He said air pollution is one of the major challenges that the country is facing at the moment and, hence, automakers should focus on alternative fuel vehicles, towards achieving a greener and safer mobility ecosystem in the country.

“Country can benefit from electric trolleybuses. These buses can be a good substitute in public transport. Similarly, broad gauge metro can also be a good alternative. We are making efforts to run broad gauge metro on 800 kms in Nagpur and surrounding areas. The Railways and State Government have given permission for this. If bio fuel run and electric vehicles are produced in greater quantities, they could cost less. It is time the country also focuses on alternative biofuel technologies such as that of ethanol, methanol, LNG, and so on.”
