Nagpur: In a major move aimed at refunding money to the duped investors, the properties of fraudsters involved in over Rs 100 crore in multi-level marketing Metrovision and crypto-currency scam would be auctioned. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 1 Noorul Hasan has prepared a proposal to that effect and the same will be put up before the District Collector soon, according to a media report.

The police have already recovered properties, including substantial cash, worth around Rs 2.25 crore after arresting 12 persons. On Thursday, masterminds of the scam — Vijay Gurnule, Devendra Gajbhiye and Tanmay Jadhav — were sent to jail by a Magistrate’s Court. Two more accused — Sunil alias Sonu Shrikhande and his girlfriend Shweta Dongre — are still in police custody. They would be produced before the court on December 7.

The report said that the process to auction the properties of the accused under Section 3 of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, 1999, would be initiated to ensure maximum depositors get their money back. Cops are now compiling a list of movable and immovable assets, bank account details and other properties of the scamsters. Similarly, police are also preparing a list of the scam victims. After the exercise is completed, the police will try to make up for the losses of the investors by auctioning the properties, the DCP said.

Police teams have gone to different locations across Vidarbha for recovering more properties, which the fraudsters amassed through the investors’ money. “During custodial interrogation, the accused have confessed to have bought more properties and the documents concealed at different places. Seizure of such properties will help us add to our already substantial recoveries,” said the officer.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: A young woman’s well-planned plot to eliminate husband with the help of paramour boomeranged as the man survived knife attack. Interestingly, the accused wife herself lodged a complaint with Gittikhadan police about attack on her husband by an unidentified man on Tuesday (December 1) night.

It may be recalled that Nagpur Today had published a report with title “Man tries to murder couple in Gittikhadan, cops launch hunt”. The report said that a resident of Itwari, the complainant Rajashree Rakesh Dekate (23) told police that she, along with her husband Rakesh (33) and 4-year old son, were returning to Nagpur on their two-wheeler around 7.30 pm on Tuesday. Midway near Gorewada Zoo Gate on Katol Road, her son felt nauseated and wanted to vomit. The couple stopped at the roadside and allowed their son to vomit.

Rajashree was standing near their two-wheeler. During the same time, an unidentified man came there and suddenly hit Rajashree on her head with an iron rod. Seeing his wife in trouble, Rakesh rushed towards her. But the accused man whipped out a knife and stabbed Rakesh on his abdomen with the intention to kill him. After attacking the husband-wife duo, the accused went absconding. Cops booked the unidentified accused under Section 307 of the IPC and searching for him.

However, during investigation, cops recorded the statement of Rakesh Dekate who survived deep abdominal injuries caused by the knife attack. It came to the fore that the attack was part of a conspiracy hatched by the accused Rajashree to eliminate her husband with the help of her paramour. Subsequently, cops took Rajashree (23), wife of Rakesh, and her paramour Rajat Somkuwar (28), a resident of Neelgaon, into custody, soon after she spilled the beans during her interrogation.

The probe revealed that Rakesh, his wife Rajashree and son Vaishnav (4) were coming towards the city from Kalmeshwar direction on a twowheeler. She asked her husband to stop near the gate of Gorewada Zoo & Wildlife Rescue Centre on Katol Road in Gittikhadan area around 7.30 pm onTuesday. She told Rakesh that their son Vaishnav was vomiting. After Rakesh parked his vehicle on the roadside, a masked man came and stabbed him with a sharp-edged weapon injuring him seriously and fled the spot. After Rakesh collapsed, passers-by gathered. Upon learning, staff from Gittikhadan Police arrived and took Rakesh to hospital. Rajshree cooked a story that she too was attacked by the goon with an iron rod.

Initially, police had registered an attempt-to-murder case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. Later, cops checked the call data record of Rajashree’s cellphone. Investigators found that she was in constant touch with Rajat. After the cops grilled Rajashree, she confessed to committing the crime with Rajat.

According to police, Rajashree and Rajat had an extramarital affair. As Rakesh was an obstacle for them, Rajashree and Rajat hatched a plan to kill him at an isolated place on Katol Road. Accordingly, Rajat started following the couple on a two wheeler. As per their plan, Rajashree asked Rakesh to stop. Rajat came from behind and stabbed Rakesh with a sharp-edged weapon and fled the spot.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

When in North India, wheat, paddy and sugarcane farmers are in turmoil and agitation mode, the farmers of Warud – Jarud are busy in their humungous Orange factories busy packing and dispatching oranges, all the way to Bangladesh!

It is an open secret that what the world calls the Nagpur orange is grown primarily in this tract of Amraoti district. In fact, despite many hurdles like depleting ground water, lack of a Railway station, no irrigation facilities Orange Orchards are the life line of most farmers of this area. A guaranteed cash crop. Though Oranges were not indigenous to this area but brought by 3 enterprising men from Jalgaon- Bhusawal, the Warud Jarud farmers have become experts in Orange cultivation.

Till just 5 years ago, they had a unique system, which unfortunately wasn’t very beneficial to farmers, for selling the ripe orange. Merchants from all over India would camp in this area year round keeping a hawk’s eye on the orchards. They would estimate the quality, quantity etc of the fruit and purchase the whole ” bageecha” from the farmer at a lump sum amount. How that amount was calculated was anyone’s guess. It used to be a gamble on both sides but the winning cards were held by the purchasers. If an unseasonal storm or unanticipated pest/ fungus attack came before the orchard was sold it was a total loss to the farmer. Becuse of the high risks involved many had begun cutting down their Orange trees and reluctantly begun turning to more traditional crops like Cotton and soybean.

Till the Central govt ( run by Dr Manmohan Singh) and state government offered a Scheme called ATMA to make farmers more self sufficient in Orange procurement and packaging.

Under this scheme, a Co operative pattern Corporation was formed with hundreds of farmers as ” share holders “. One such Corporation is the Utkranti Agro Producers Company in Jarud. President of Utkranti is Ramkrishna Chindhuji Meshram, Secretary is Dr Ashok Khope and it has a CEO even, a local man, called Gajendra Takarkhede. It has 850 farmers as ” Shareholders” who have put up equity of Rs 6000/ each. ” Initially farmers were reluctant to come on board but we managed to persuade them. Now everyone is happy with the system”.

Utkranti’s premises for Orange processing are 22, 000 square feet, built at a minimal cost of just Rs 1 crore. Within the premises is a machine that automatically loads, washes, dries and then waxes the oranges before segregating them by size. Then they are manually packed into cartons ready for despatch. It is at this stage that merchants come in to purchase and deliver the oranges not just all over India but to Bangladesh as well.

“Everyday 3 to 4 farmers bringing in their oranges by the truckloads. We pay them asap not waiting for further sale to merchants. We do a turnover of Rs 30 crores approx annually. Our largest farmer has been paid Rs 16 lakhs till now for just this year’s produce!”

Another Orange factory based in Warud is SNOCO run by Nilesh Magarde.

His corporation also has hundreds of farmers as share holders.

He sells directly to Companies such as Big Basket, Reliance Fresh etc.

” When Orange growers grievances were first nationally expressed , spurred by Govt agencies many Corporates like Tatas, Reliance Industries visited us and expressed interest but no further development happened after that!

Now we have taken our destiny into our own hands.

We are truly Atma Nirbhar!”

Expresses Nilesh.

Today, December 7, is National Letter Writing Day

Nagpur: “Dakiya Daak Laya, Dakiya Daak Laya…” the evergreen song used to fill the hearts of people waiting for a letter. “Postman” was the call sign of a khaki-clad man knocking doors of letter recipients. But time has changed. No more “Postman” nowadays as people don’t write letters as they used to earlier, they now send mails through the smartphones, the Internet, Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram etc.

Now, neither the Inland Letter or Postcard is to be seen!!. The recent years have seen the gradual disappearance of many professions, which once acquired importance in every society. One such person who was vital cog but in communication is fast disappearing is the postman. Even two decades ago, people sitting on the verandah, with their eyes longing for the khaki-clad postman, were a common sight. They waited ardently, with hope filled in their hearts, for the news the postman brought with him of a loved one posted faraway, or perhaps even a photograph they had eagerly waited for. As the postman drew nearer, their anticipations suddenly grew until he handed over the letter. But the younger generation of the 21st century hardly knows the priceless value of a hand-written letter.

Letter writing has been in decline because of smartphones, the Internet and before that, the telephone, but for hundreds of years, it was the only way for people separated by distance to get in touch with one another. In the earlier days, people used to ask: “Mr Postman, do you have a letter for me”? But now the question has become outdated as nobody writes a letter. And nobody waits for the postman either. The Red coloured ‘Letter Box” that dotted the nook and corner of a locality has become a history.

People still remember an inbuilt letterbox in different sizes and colours, the postman knocking on doors to deliver letters, the red mail van which made us cross our fingers and make a wish? These are the sweet memories of the yesteryears.

“Postman’s bag is always heavy because it carries life itself: It carries all the sorrows and all the joys, all the worries and all the hopes!” said an expert.

‘Chitthi Ayi Hai Ayi Hai, Chitthi Ayi Hai! Bade Dino Ke Baad…’ is a song just to be heard with no emotions in true sense. All those special moments are gone! How time flies and evolves!

No more ‘Postman’, no more “Dakiya Daak Laya…”
