Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The officials of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (T ATR) have busted an illegal jungle safari racket on Wednesday. A Forest Guard, deployed at Navegaon Gate under TATR, and an agent involved in illegal entry of tourists have been arrested by Chimur police.

According to the sources in the Forest Department, the guard, Tekchand Rupchand Sonule, was hand in glove with agent Sachin Santosh Koychade, who used to advertise on social media about the availability of entry from the Gate. Information about entry availability was passed on to the agent by Sonule. Sonule was deployed at Navegaon Gate of TATR as part of routine duty to check activities of tourists at the gate. However, the private travel agent Koychade entered into TATR for jungle safari along with some tourists reportedly without permit from administration. Koychade had allegedly entered into TATR after ‘paying’ Rs 9,000 cash to Forest Guard Tekchand Sonule. On being informed, the senior officials of TATR sent a team to check the illegal activities in the core area of Navegaon Range under TATR.

During a raid by Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Mahesh Kore, both admitted they were illegally allowing vehicles in the core area. The ACF found that both the accused were involved in the illegal entry business since long. The accused guard and agent were detained and taken to Chimur police station where an FIR has been lodged. TATR Deputy Director (core) Nandkishore Kale said that Sonule was under the scanner for the past one month. Though only tourists who booked tickets online are allowed entry in the core, the forest guard used to push through vehicles illegally even under VIP quota, and against vehicles that didn’t turn up.

Sources said Sonule had a social media group and used to get in touch with resort owners for entry. For example, if five vehicles were allowed from the gate, the number of vehicles while reporting used to be five only, but actually more vehicles used to enter.

HDFC Bank outages: RBI tells bank to stop sourcing new credit card customers

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

MUMBAI: In a big blow to HDFC Bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked the private lender to temporarily stop all launches of its digital business generating activities under “Digital 2.0″ programme. This includes sourcing of new credit card customers.

The regulator issued an order on 2 December with regard to certain incidents of outages in HDFC Bank’s internet banking, mobile banking and payment utilities over the past 2 years, the lender said in a regulatory filing on Thursday. This also includes recent outages in the bank’s internet banking and payment system on 21 November due to a power failure in the primary data centre, the bank said.

“In addition, the order states that the bank’s board examines the lapses and fixes accountability,” it said, adding that the restrictions shall be considered for lifting based on satisfactory compliance with the major critical observations as identified by RBI.

These restrictions, albeit temporary, come less than two months after Sashidhar Jagdishan’s appointment as the chief executive of HDFC Bank, when a sharper focus on digital banking is being expected.

HDFC Bank said on Thursday that it has, over the last two years, taken several measures to fortify its IT systems and will continue to work swiftly to close out the balance and would continue to engage with the regulator in this regard.

“The bank has always endeavoured to provide seamless digital banking services to its customers. The bank has been taking conscious, concrete steps to remedy the recent outages on its digital banking channels and assures its customers that it expects the current supervisory actions will have no impact on its existing credit cards, digital banking channels and existing operations,” it said.

It added that that these measures “will not materially impact its overall business”.

In December last year, customers complained that they were unable to pay their loan EMIs or settle credit card bills on time. RBI deputy governor MK Jain had said in December that the regulator has taken into account the outage and has deployed a team of experts to investigate the matter. The RBI team will investigate the reasons behind the outage and accordingly give directions to HDFC Bank, Jain had said.

The December outage was not owing to any cyberattack but because the lender ‘underestimated’ growth in payment volumes and the disruption was more of a capacity issue, Jagdishan, the then executive director had said in January this year.

“What we did not realise is the kind of increase in businesses across liabilities, assets and payment products. Even within payment products, we have been patronising multiple channels, whether it is cards or the unified payments interface (UPI) volumes. We underestimated the growth in these volumes,” he had said.

Nagpur: Voting for the graduate constituency took place on December 1. The counting of votes is underway at Mankapur Sports Complex here today. At the end of the first round, Mahavikas Aghadi candidate Abhijeet Vanjari is leading with 4850 votes, while BJP’s Sandeep Joshi is in second place with 7,766 votes. Independent candidate Nitin Karale is in the third position with 1742 votes.

In the graduate elections, there was a direct battle between Mahavikas Aghadi and Bharatiya Janata Party. Even during the campaign, sometimes Mahavikas Aghadi and sometimes BJP kept going backwards. With just two days to go before the polls, no one was able to predict exactly. As a result, the turnout was higher this time than in the last election, making the fight very tense. Therefore, there were arguments as to whether the BJP’s stronghold was maintained at this time or not. Therefore, even after the polls, political experts were reluctant to make predictions. With Abhijit Vanjari leading in the first round, the Congress workers are happy and the BJP is worried.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Four con persons, including a husband-wife duo, cheated the Union Bank of India (formerly Corporation Bank) to the tune of Rs 1.20 crore by forging documents and procuring housing loan by mortgaging a property which never belonged to them. Sadar police have booked the accused and are investigating the matter.

The accused have been identified as Pramod Motiram Walmandhre, Sheetal Pramod Walmandhre, both residents of New Indira Colony, Balaji Nagar; Krishnakumar Laxmanrao Deshmukh, a resident of Shankar Nagar, and Roshan Hore, a resident of Pratap Nagar.

Police sources said that Rajesh Pandurang Gawande (46), Manager, Union Bank of India, Kingsway Branch, Sadar, lodged a complaint stating that Pramod Walmandhre had submitted an application for housing loan on October 29, 2013. He had submitted some documents including photo copies of PAN card, driving licence, agreement of sale and death certificate of Nirmalabai Joshi. After scrutiny of the documents, Janki Raman, the then Branch Manager of the bank, had sanctioned a loan of Rs 1.20 crore to Pramod and Sheetal Walmandhre. Janki Raman had specifically told the couple that the demand draft (DD) of the said loan amount would be issued in the name of the plot owner Krishnakumar Deshmukh only after the original sale deed was submitted to the bank.

After Pramod and Sheetal Walmandhre submitted the sale deed, the bank issued a DD of Rs 1.09 crore in favour of Krishnakumar Deshmukh on October 29, 2013 which was deposited in the latter’s account.

Police further said that from time to time, Rs 11 lakh was given to Pramod Walmandhre for house repair works. Of the 11 lakh, Rs 5 lakh was transferred to Deshmukh’s account by Pramod Walmandhre. Pramod and Sheetal Walmandhre paid the equated monthly installment (EMI) of Rs 1,19,810 till July 3, 2015. Later, Pramod Walmandhre stopped paying the EMI. Even after receiving the notice from the bank, Walmandhre did not pay the EMI. The then Branch Manager of the bank and staff visited the house but did not find Pramod and Sheetal Walmandhre. There, they met Shrikrishna Deshmukh.

During enquiry, the bank authorities came to know that the Pramod and Sheetal Walmandhre were not the owners of the house. The house originally belonged to Nirmalabai Joshi who had given it to her relative Pradip Bhusari. She had also prepared a will which was registered in 1988. Roshan Hore was the tenant in the house. On July 26, 1995, Hore had allegedly prepared fake notarized documents and a will to show on record that the property was sold to him on July 21, 1995. When the fraud came to light, Pradip Bhusari moved the court against Hore who was later booked in the case. Hore challenged the decision of the lower court in the High Court but did not get any relief. The High Court delivered its verdict in favour of Bhusari.

On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused persons. PSI Mehpale is conducting further investigations.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: In a cause of worry, the ambitious Patanjali Ayurved’s Food Park at Mihan is in limbo as construction work of the project that had been suspended before Covid-19 pandemic has not started. The company was supposed to get operational 18 months after getting allotment of land.

Spread over an area of 234 acres, Patanjali Food Park was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari at a glittering ceremony in September 2016. The project was scheduled to go on steam from March 2019.

Sources informed that the non operationalisation of the Patanjali project has upset Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), the developer of Mihan. MADC has sent reminders both at Patanjali’s headquarters at Haridwar and also the local office. The company was supposed to get operational 18 months after getting allotment of land. The project is far behind schedule, said sources.

Even during his recent visit to Nagpur, the Yog Guru Baba Ramdev had promised to commence the production soon. But there are no workers at the site and only guards are deployed. Most of the work is completed and the machinery brought in needs to be installed. There were indications that the company was arranging funds for the project.

According to reports, the work was hampered due to Covid but will begin soon. A source said that the work may resume before the end of 2020. The unit will be operational at the earliest.

The Patanjali project grabbed the headlines as it was allegedly allotted land at cheaper rates of Rs 25.50 lakh per acre. It was also promised by the management of the Patanjali Food Park that the construction work would be completed within six months and in another 18 months, the production would start thereby offering employment to a large number of jobless people.

Sources also informed that Patanjali’s Indore project is also facing rough weather due to paucity of funds. It was billed as Asia’s biggest food project having potential to change the economy of the region.

Innovation: City aeromodeller creates India’s smallest 1 gram indoor plane

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Big things come in small packages. This holds true in case of the ‘ultralight plane’ designed and flown successfully by a Nagpurian. This ‘plane,’ surprisingly, weighs only one gramme.

According to a media report, Rajesh Joshi, an expert aeromodelling instructor from Nagpur, has claimed to have created the ultralight indoor plane. “It is perhaps the smallest aircraft in India,” Joshi claimed. The wings of this plane measure 21 cms while its body is 29 cms, he said. For the record, Joshi had earlier made aeroplanes weighing 1.5 gramme and 3 grammes. “It took me one week to create the 1 gramme plane. Made up of balsa wood, the speciality of this 1 gramme indoor plane is that it is loaded with rubber and hurled in the air.

“I always encourage my students to create new models at very less cost. For making the one gramme plane, three students – Nishad Gedam, Nihar Radke and Nikhil Wath – extended me their help. Now I am sending this one gramme plane to concerned authorities for procuring a certificate and name in a record book,” the expert aeromodelling instructor from Nagpur said.

Joshi further said that three kinds of material were used in making the ultralight plane. Balsa wood, which is lightest, Mylar film which is thinnest and delicate film, and paper was used to make front fans of the plane. A specific quality of rubber, which is used to fly the plane, is imported from outside. “The making of the ultralight plane is a very creative and delicate job. My dream was to become a pilot but for some reasons, the dream could not come true. Hence I decided to do something special in the aeromodelling field,” Joshi stated.

“Aeromodelling is a challenging job. Newer and newer experiments are carried out every now and then,” he asserted.

Limca Book of Records has registered Joshi’s name for making India’s biggest aeromodelling plane. The plane measures 21 feet X 16 feet. It is equipped with a 150 cc petrol engine. Design of this plane was devised by Joshi himself.

In the past, some young and expert aeromodellers of Nagpur displayed their unique skills in indoor ultralight rubber-powered aeromodelling show organised by Rajesh Joshi at Mankapur Indoor Stadium. Joshi showcased his ‘penny plane’ weighing just three grammes. Some students also showcased their innovations in the show.

A6 Class rubber powered aeromodel was the major attraction of the show. The plane was feather-light and handmade. Indian Navy Commander (Retd) T R Ananthanarayanan, who is a leading aeromodelling expert, had introduced the ultra-light aeromodelling last year for the first time in India. He himself made such aeromodels and flew them in an indoor stadium in Sonepat last year.
