Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: In a land mark judgment, the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission asked Wochkardt Hospital to pay Rs 20 lakh, with 9 per cent interest along with litigation expenses of Rs 20,000 for medical negligence causing death of the patient.

The complainant Anil Gupta submitted that his wife Mamta was admitted to Wockhardt Hospital on August 2, 2011 as she was suffering from headache. After CT scan, it was discovered that she was suffering from hydrocephalus. She then underwent a surgery conducted by Dr Shailesh Kelkar on August 11, 2011. Her condition had improved and was scheduled to be discharged on September 4, 2011. However, on the suggestions of doctors, Mamta was sent for scan, a day prior to her discharge. While shifting her on bed she was dropped by the hospital staff.

Gupta accused the hospital of negligence where staff meant for cleaning of floors was summoned to shift her. Further, none of the doctors was present when the patient was handled, Gupta alleged. After falling on the ground, the VP Shunt installed during the surgery, was dislodged and patient’s condition deteriorated, Gupta alleged.

In spite of repeated requests, neither specialist doctors attended the patient nor was the CT scan conducted till midnight. The patient suffered internal injury and developed a clot in the brain.

Counsel for complainant Adv Tushar Mandlekar argued that negligence of hospital caused the life threatening injury to Mamta. After developing the clot, the hospital did not give her correct treatment and did not conduct the surgery immediately. On September, 21 -2011 when her condition worsened she was subjected to another surgery.

In spite of specialist doctors like Dr Ajay Sakhare, Dr Ajay Kurve, Dr Ankur Jain, Dr Shailesh Kelkar treating the patient she could not be saved and died on December 12 2011.

The hospital argued that Mamta was already suffering from cancer and was taking treatment from Dr Anand Pathak since 2011 and she died due to cancer. The hospital filed affidavits of Dr Divik Mittal (Neurosurgeon), Dr Bhushan Nemade (Oncologist), Dr Saurabh Bilala (Neurophysician), Dr Amit Dhakoji, Dr Ajay Kurve, Dr Shailesh Kelkar (Neurosurgeon), Dr Ankur Jain along with affidavits of Sunil Sahastrabuddhe Centre Head, K Sujata and other hospital staff.

Mandlekar argued that hospital committed gross medical negligence in giving treatment to patient. There was a delay of 17 days in calling neurosurgeon and giving treatment causing her death, he contended.

Adv Mandlekar assisted by Adv Rohan Malviya while Adv Geeta Handa Khanuja argued for Wockhardt Hospital.

Poster released recently

Nagpur: A whatsapp media poster which baffled many in the BJP circles while giving fodder for fuel to the opposition parties, has now been extended to another poster which seems to have been released as a deliberate attempt to counter the previous one.

It so happened that a printer named Mahendra Kathane had shared a poster complaining about the uncleared dues owed by BJP leader Ravindra alias Chhotu Bhoyar to Kathane. The payment was apparently due against getting the posters and banners printed at Saru Printers owned by Kathane.

The previous poster also bad-mouthed about the BJP leader’s tendency to avoid calls for the payment.

Now, in a twist of turn yet another poster has been freshly put out by Kathane, who has now comes up with clarification that he is not having any pending dues and that he has nothing to do with previously released poster. The text in the latest poster reads that the poster was made viral by some opposition elements.

However when Nagpur Today contacted Kathane, he added more fuel to the fire saying that it was not him but Bhoyar’s men who forwarded the previous poster on whatsapp. He however admitted that first poster was also released by him as he had been repeatedly following up Bhoyar for his outstanding payment but to no avail.

“Eventually, I got the poster prepared and shared only with Bhoyar’s PA Nilesh and one Ankush, who even told me that they cared least, do what you want. It was them who made the poster viral,” Kathane told NT.

When asked about his changed tone in the the latest poster, Kathane said that they have cleared the payment and later asked me to give this statement, for which I had no problem as my dues were cleared.

When Nagpur Today contacted Chhotu Bhoyar, he could not comment much. However he said to refer to the latest poster. Bhoyar also got this reporter talk to one Baba Kelwade, apparently his aide, who tried to pacify the issue.
Later, Baba Kelwade shared the new poster with NT on whatsapp.

Bhojwani Foods Limited CEO Akash Bhojwani leading from the front

Nagpur: Some people are always hungry for success. It is this hunger that never lets them contended and hence they continue to grow with each passing day scaling new heights of success. Akash Bhojwani is one such young entrepreneur of the city.

CEO of Bhojwani Foods Limited, Akash ventured into the family business some four years ago. The company is into the business of manufacturing instant mixes in addition to blended spices and chakki fresh atta. Akash, a management degree holder from Sinhagad Technical Education Institute, Pune, brought in technology into the business and transformed it. Says Akash proudly, “The expansion of company was possible only with the use of technology.” While the company is equipped with hi-tech machines for proper mixing and manufacturing best quality products, highest level of cleanliness is maintained in the factory to ensure purity and quality of the products. Success of BFL as the company is known, is the hygienic product that we are providing to the people, he says.

Asked as to what are the driving forces that inspire him to work, Akash, who completed his schooling from Swami Narayan School, in the city says, it is of course family and the team you are working with – the people building the company. If the people working around you are confident, you can achieve anything. If you don’t’ have a team, you cannot fight it alone.

When asked what changes he has seen in the food industry, Akash says, “Today, the mentality has changed. Earlier, pricing was one of the deciding factors. Today people are ready to pay, they need good food, good service. People are not interested in cutting their own cost for food specifically. This is the reason that in the near future there will be hardly any adulterated product available in the market.”

Asked about company’s present operations and future plans, Akash says the company’s business is spread to 11 states including those of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi NCR and other parts of the country. The future goal is to cover maximum rural places and to enter at least 1,600 towns in next few months.

And the advice to the budding entrepreneurs he gives is, “You should know what not to do rather than what to do. Once you know this certainly there would be fewer obstacles in your business. Moreover, businessmen should always be ready to face new challenges.”
