Nagpur: Two men lost their lives after being crushed under the heavy boulders at Kanhan coal mines. Both had gone to collect coal from waste where the landslide proved fatal for them. The guards of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), who witnessed the incident, soon rushed to help the duo but in vain.

The deceased have been identified as Ritesh Choure (25), and Satish Deshmukh (35), both residents of Kamptee. WCL officials told the Kanhan police about the incident, who rushed to the spot and dug up the body with the help of a crane at the mines.

According to cops, the deceased used to regularly collect coal from the dumping mines and used it for household purposes or even selling. On Tuesday, when the duo was collecting coal, they were crushed under a sudden landslide.

Sources said that landslides are very frequent in the mines as the sand is slippery. However, several people still venture there to scavenge for coal. Kanhan police have registered a case of accidental death.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The row over Congress corporator Bunty Shelke snowballed into a bigger issue as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has sent the general body’s resolution to the state government in order to get him disqualified. Shelke’s fate now lie at the decisioin of state’s urban development department (UDD) which comes under chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The resolution to disqualify Shelke on charges of agitating was passed by NMC general body on September 24. Shelke has been charged for provoking ASHA workers to storm into the Town Hall when general body meeting was underway on February 3. Officiating municipal commissioner Ravindra Thakre sent the resolution to the government with his recommendation to disqualify Shelke. Now, UDD will hold hearing of NMC as well as Shelke by issuing a show cause notice. Then the final decision will be taken.

The resolution was passed in a controversial manner. It was cleared amid agitation by corporators of Congress and BSP demanding resignation of mayor Nanda Jichkar for her controversial US tour along with her son. Also, the civic body had started two different inquiries against Shelke.

First, NMC registered FIR against Shelke with Kotwali police station, and also submitted charge sheet in district court. Then, NMC had conducted an internal inquiry based on which the resolution was passed.

“BJP wants to pressurize whoever raises a voice against them. I am not going to buckle to BJP’s pressure and will launch a series of agitations next month,” he said. Shelke has been on BJP’s target ever since he was elected from Mahal, defeating former standing committee chairman Sudhir Raut, who was in the panel of former mayor Pravin Datke.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: She travels 60 kms daily by bus right since she was in class V. Now she is pursuing her graduation. In the meantime she saw many changes, however, one thing remained a constant trouble for all those years – how men used to behave inappropriately with girls throughout her journey, from pushing girls on the pretext of getting out of rush in the bus, which sometimes also involved touching indecently.

Ruchita wanted to scream her ordeal for so long. And she finally got her chance in first of its kind initiative ‘#Desi MeToo’ floated out by Yuvak Kranti Dal, Nagpur, Women’s Cell CP and Berar College where girls and women from all age groups shared their accounts of sexual harassment in Dhanwate Sabhagruha, Shankar Nagar on Tuesday.
However Ruchita was not an exception. Around 20 dresses of the victims along with their stories labeled on it, were put on display. Many such participants spoke about their nightmares with the gathering on this occasion.
17 year-old Abhishek who also participated in the programme says that it is boys’ responsibility to help their sisters and friends in such hard times and provide them the much needed support in order to let them speak against their tormentors.

While interacting with audience first year student Payal stressed that, guys often see us as a object which has been put on display, they call us by names, follow us and what society do? They just enjoy the show.

“Why can’t society stand by our side? Why they always find a way to blame girls?” she lamented on this occasion.
“Nazar Mardo Ki Kharab Hai, Our Ghughat Aurato Ko Pehanaya Jata Hai,” said Farheen while addressing the hypocrisy of society with the onset of her speech which fetched tremendous applause from the audience. She also highlighted gender discrimination she faced in her home since childhood.

Later the distress among to audience ran high when they learnt that, Ankita has been through such situations as many as 8 times in her life for being overweight.

At the end, Snehal a professional biker advised the victims that, no one has any right to show you down and being a strong woman which you guys are, you should never give away that right to anyone.

“It’s only you who can save you. It’s only you who can stand for yourself. No one else will stand for you, unless you stand for yourself,” she asserted to girls on this occasion.

Kunal, a volunteer of Yuvak Kranti Dal mentioned that 80% of girls refused to take part in this initiative due to fear of defamation.

Dr Rashmi Paraskar, Milind Barahate, Dr Swati Dharmadhikari, Rubina Patel and Sandeep Barve were present on the dais who also shared their point of views.

Opening coal mines for pvt sector will end monopoly, says Padmesh Gupta

This reform is expected to bring efficiency into the coal sector by moving from an era of monopoly to competition- Padmesh Gupta

Nagpur: In an ambitious reform, the Government ended the monopoly of Public Sector Undertakings and opened the commercial coal mines to private sector and foreign companies. Since nationalisation of the coal in 1973, the PSUs Coal India had the monopoly over commercial mining/sales. Opening up commercial coal mining for the private sector, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on had recently approved the methodology for auction of coal mines/blocks for sale of the commodity.

The government described the move as the most ambitious reform of the sector since its nationalisation in 1973. Coal accounts for around 70% of the country’s power generation, and the move for energy security through assured coal supply is expected to garner attention from major companies. Currently, 94% of the mining is being executed by public sector undertakings such as Coal India Limited and Singareni Collieries. Further, around one-fifth of India’s requirement is being met through Imports, costing around Rs 1 lakh crore.

“Till now, only power and aluminium producers could bid for coal mining. Now on, private firms can bid without end-use curbs. This step is being lauded by various industry bodies in India as the move is expected to bring in competition in a sector which is being driven currently under a monopoly also, where there are vexatious issues of coal quality wherein Power companies which consume 80% of the production have been complaining of stones and boulders in coal consignments for long” said Padmesh Gupta,Chairman & Managing Director of Gupta Corporation to Nagpur Today.

Gupta further added that this long-awaited step taken by the government is expected to increase productivity by use of state of the art technology and services and increase competition.

The competition is also expected to bring in per GCV based pricing mechanism as practised internationally, instead of the traditional grade based system. This would also lead to substitution of imported-non coking coal with domestic production thereby saving India’s foreign exchange reserves.

“This reform is expected to bring efficiency into the coal sector by moving from an era of monopoly to competition. It will increase competitiveness and allow the use of best possible technology into the sector,” Gupta said.

Public sector undertaking Coal India was so far the lone commercial miner in the country for over four decades. The company accounts for 84% of India’s coal output.

Unlike in the past where most mines allotted to private firms were unviable. The success in the move greatly depends on the quality of the blocks being offered and the geological information made available to bidders.

Further, it is very important that government clears all the hurdles as faced by both PSUs and private firms such as delays in approvals, land acquisition, and rehabilitation of project-affected people. Today, it takes at least 5 years for a coal mining project to start commercial operations. Unless there is single-window clearance for statutory approvals, streamlining of land acquisition processes, and improvement in rail connectivity, commercial miners would run into the same challenges that have beset public sector and captive miners.

Sorting these requires the political and regulatory drive. Without that, the coal supply curve is unlikely to turn for the better anytime soon. That means pricing would continue to be determined by Coal India and Singareni Collieries till the share of commercial miners in the output increases and supplies improve.

Illegal structures, encroachments mushroom in city under NMC ‘protection’

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: At a time when the Nagpur City is dreaming of becoming a ‘Smart City,’ the encroachment menace has gripped the city in monstrous magnitude. Most of the roads, footpaths, public places would be found encroached for residential and commercial purpose.

The encroachments were identified and a slew of recommendations have been made to demolish them. But since the past two years, instead of removing the encroachments, numbering 515, the zonal Ward Officers, Deputy Engineers, Assistant Engineers and other babus were found ‘protecting’ the encroachers for their ‘vested interests.’ Gandhibagh Zone is in the forefront in this connection.

On one hand the small time vendors on footpaths are ousted and slapped notices of Rs 5000 fine per day, on the other hand, the babus conveniently turn a blind eye to the permanent/temporary encroachments done by bigwig traders. The former Mayor Pravin Datke, a few months back, had raised the issue of mushrooming encroachments and asked the NMC administration how many proposals were pending for getting rid of the menace. The administration had informed Datke that the list contained over 500 encroachments. Then why delay, Datke questioned but the babus avoided the reply.

It may be mentioned that the zonal offices had sent a list of 515 illegal/unauthorised structures and encroachments to the NMC administration. But the action was taken against 18-20 encroachers. The sun is not rising for babus to take action against 3 encroachments in Laxmi Nagar Zone, 119 in Dharampeth Zone, 32 in Hanuman Nagar Zone, 7 in Dhantoli Zone, 3 in Nehru Nagar Zone, 77 in Gandhibagh Zone , 120 in Satranjipura Zone, 17 in Lakadganj Zone, 5 in Asinagar Zone and 117 encrochments in Mangalwari Zone.

The encroachers are expanding their empire under the very nose of NMC babus and police who have been found slumbering. For want of decisive action on the part of concerned authorities, encroachments are mushrooming in the city. Footpaths, roads and any open place have been captured by the encroachers.

Drama is being enacted in CBI to escape probe into Rafale deal, says BJP leader

Nagpur: Launching a scathing attack on Central Government, the former Finance Minister and BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday called the Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Man of Destruction.’ “Modi means Man of Destruction. The Prime Minister has turned the nation into a banana republic. There is no rule of law.

The Prime Minister or Cabinet cannot remove CBI chief. The CBI Director is appointed by a high-powered committee comprising Chief Justice of Supreme Court, the Prime Minister and Leader of Opposition. The Government has finished the Central Bureau of Investigation, premier investigation agency in the country,” Sinha said and added the entire drama is being enacted with focus on Rafale deal probe.

The BJP leader was interacting with media persons at a press conference held at Patrakar Bhavan on Wednesday. BJP MP and Bollywood star Shatrughan Sinha and Ashish Deshmukh, who recently quit BJP and joined Congress, were also present at the press meet.

“According to provisions of Constitution, the tenure of CBI Director is fixed and secure. The CBI chief comes under Lokpal. The powers to remove a person holding this post rest with the committee. Hence removing the CBI Director is unconstitutional. The Modi Government was angry with the CBI Director for probe into the Rafale deal. To settle the score, action was taken against the CBI chief. He has been forcibly sent on leave,” Sinha charged.

“There is anarchy in the country. The power and authority resting with only one person is perilous for democracy. But exactly the same is happening. All powers are with Modi. Everybody knows what Modi means. Modi means ‘Man of destruction.’ The CBI Director was initiating a probe into Rafale deal. Therte was possibility that he could have filed FIR in the deal. Rafale deal is directly connected to the Prime Minister.

Arun Shaurie along with Adv Prashant Bhushan had met CBI chief Alok Verma and demanded probe into the deal. Subsequently, Verma had summoned Defence Ministry officials for confirmation of documents submitted by Shaurie and Adv Bhushan. The Government was angry with Verma for allotting time to them. Moreover, the AAP MP Sanjay Singh too had written a letter to CVC and demanded probe. The CVC in turn had recommended CBI probe.

Sending CBI chief on forced leave is like punishment. The SP of CBI who had filed FIR against Asthana, a Modi man, was transferred to Andaman and Nicobar. In Verma’s place, the tainted Nageshawara Rao was appointed the CBI Director sideling claims of other experienced officials. Now, since the matter is in Supreme Court, let us see what happens,” Sinha said.

According to the former Finance Minister, the entire Government has been embroiled in the controversial Rafale deal and the people running the government can stoop to any level to save their skin. “The drama being enacted is how to save themselves. The government might have got a hint that the CBI Director may file a case against some people holding high posts in the government. The current situation in the country was not even witnessed during Emergency. This is an unprecedented development of sorts. Everybody knows Asthana is whose man. A trap was laid to remove Alok Verma. Verma was made a scapegoat for corruption charges levelled against Rakesh Asthana, the CBI Special Director. However, the government has failed in its plot. People of the country are watching this and they will give reply at right time. But the image of CBI, known for its impartial investigations, has been dented,” Sinha lamented.

This Govt is revenge happy: Shatrughan Sinha
BJP MP and Bollywood star Shatrughan Sinha who was accompanying Yashwant Sinha and was present at the press meet said that voice must be raised against the wrong things for saving democracy. “We are making efforts. Our efforts are fraught with dangers. This government is revenge taking government. Danger lies in personal level. India is democratic country and run by Constitution. Shortcomings are there. But we are trying to remove these shortcomings,” fiery leader said.

Rafale deal is biggest scam: Sanjay Singh
The Rajya Sabha member of Aam Admi Party (AAP) Sanjay Singh termed the Rafale deal as the biggest scam in the history of the country. All the relevant proofs are available of this scam. The focal points of this scam are former President of France, Prime Minister Modi and Anil Ambani. Rakesh Asthana is Gujarat cadre IPS officer. He had saved Modi in Godhra case. In turn, Asthana was brought to CBI. Now, entire game is being played through Asthana. Asthana has links with meat businessman Moin Qureshi. The evidence of talks between Asthana and Qureshi is in call records and WhatsApp. Bribe was paid through a person named Manoj Prasad from Dubai. The SP of CBI Devender Kumar is also involved in the bribe case, Sanjay Singh charged.

Some officials were shunted to such places where no posts of their rank exist

Nagpur: The tussle between CBI Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana has led to a massive shake up within the investigation agency. While both Verma and Asthana have been sent on leave and divested of their powers, the officials shunted out were said to part of Verma’s team investigating the corruption charges against Asthana.

The bitter feud between the two topmost officials of the premier investigation agency has dented the image of CBI and also raised question marks over its autonomy. Those officials transferred in haste were in the rank of DIG, SP and DSP. Interestingly, most of the officials transferred were part of Verma’s team probing charges against Asthana. Some of the officials were shunted to such places where no posts of their rank existed. For example, DIG level officer Manish Kumar Sinha was transferred to Nagpur where no post of DIG exists. In Nagpur, the top post is that of SP level.

So, could it be assumed that the mass transfers of these officials a punishment? Ranking of officials in police and administrative service holds significance. The government usually effects such transfers deliberately with ulterior motives. The police and IPS officials are very ambitious over their postings. Now, the pertinent question is: Are these officials meted out punishment?

The former Finance Minister and BJP leader Yashwant Sinha, during his press conference in Nagpur on Wednesday, has termed the transfer of AK Bassi, DSP, CBI ACIII, who was investigating the Asthana case, to Andaman and Nicobar as punishment. Therefore, is the charges of Sinha correct, is the question mark. CBI works under Ministry of Personnel and the Ministry is in direct control of the Prime Minister.

Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed Joint Direct M Nageshwar Rao as the interim director of the CBI till investigations conclude in the allegations made by the top two CBI officials against each other.

The transfers:
While AK Bassi, DSP, CBI ACIII was transferred to Port Blair, Manish Kumar Sinha, DIG, AC-III was transferred to Nagpur. Anish Prasad, DIG Special Unit transferred to Administration Department, AK Sharma, Joint Director Policy was transferred to MDMA Unit and SS Gurm, Additional SP AC-III was transferred to Jabalpur.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Even as the last ditch effort to save their eateries lined up on the Futala Lake view site failed Nagpur Improvement Trust is out to demolish these food shops on Thursday. NIT officials along with demolition squad will be reaching at Futala lake shortly.

The demolition process would be carried out in full police protection. There are around 20 eating joints along the lake road which have been operating for over eight years. The demolition was being planned for the last two years after the SellAds which allotted the shops to these owners was found to be illegally doing so.

Meanwhile, many restaurant owners have started vacating the shops as truck loads of furniture and other inventories were being transported from the spot. The latest reports say that recently only two restaurants were in operation – Dominos and Panino. Earlier on Monday the restaurant owners met NIT chairman and collector Ashwin Mudgal who reportedly refused to allow more time to vacate the eateries.

Sources said the lease of these restaurants ended way back in August 2016. After this Sell Ads too advocated for the demolition of these eateries.

Now that the redevelopment project has been planned so restaurants would have to be removed. City MP and union minister Nitin Gadkari has planned a tunnel in place of the existing road. A viewers gallery with seating capacity of 4,000 will come up over the tunnel with space for restaurants and parking. Gadkari sanctioned Rs 112 crore for the project.

NIT had previously appointed Sell Ads for operating 20 restaurants and maintaining the lake and its surroundings on February 17, 2010, for five years till February 16, 2015. Then the NIT gave extension upto August 16, 2016, in a controversial manner. Since then, there is no permission to the restaurants but they continued to run at the place.

MahaMetro has planned to begin execution of the proposed project. “Drawings will be finalized soon. Tendering process for execution is also likely to begin soon. We will start execution of the project as soon as restaurants are removed,” an official said.

At that time API Magdum got knowledge that she was desirous to sell her house. As API Magdum was also in search of a house property therefore, after negotiations with accused Veena, API Magdum offered to purchase the said house for Rs.20 lakhs which was agreed by her. API Magdum availed Rs.15 lakh loan from bank and paid her Rs.5 lakh from his side. In the year 2014 a registered sale deed came to be executed, but since then Veena was refusing to handover possession of the house to Magdum.

On the contrary, since last many days she along with other unknown women is threatening and blackmailing Magdum that if he will demand his house then she will implicate him in a false case of rape. API Magdum is having relevant evidences, phone recording and witnesses to this effect.

API Rajendra Magdum had given his complaint to police station Hudkeshwar but no action was taken by the authorities and therefore, he filed complaint before the JMFC Shahzad Parvez at Nagpur. Advocate Sameer P. Sonwane did hearing on behalf of API Magdum. After hearing the court held that there are serious allegations of extortion, cheating and criminal breach of trust against the proposed accused in the application and therefore, the court directed to investigate the matter by registering FIR and to submit the final report before the Court. The sections mentioned are 383, 384, 385, 406, 420, 120(B) r/w 34 of Indian Penal Code.

“More than 50% of rape cases are false, some are either registered to take revenge or to take advantage in some financial matter. API Magdum is one of the rarest person who has initiated action against blackmailer woman without worrying about its consequences,” said advocate Sameer Sonwane.
