Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

NAGPUR: Former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee breathed his last on Thursday evening after a prolonged illness. One of the legend Parliamentarians, great orator and renowened poet; Vajpayee had his followers and admirers among political adversaries also.

Being a volunteer of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vajpayee had good relations with Nagpur that he cherished for his lifetime. He had visited Nagpur on 21 June 1986 to attend the last rites of Sundarlal Rai, the then Maharashtra State President of Jan Sangh. Then onwards, whenever Vajpayee came to Nagpur, he stayed at Rai’s residence thus playing a guardian’s role to his colleague family.

Rupa Rai, the neice of Sundarlal Rai and daughter of former Governor Rajni Rai, is currently a corporator in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). “He has always been a guardian to us. When he became the Prime Minister for the first time, I had gone to meet him at his Delhi residence, but the security guards and party workers stopped me outside. When he noticed me in the crowd, he walked up to me and asked as why I was standing there. When I told him about the incident, he asked the security guards to move aside saying that he wanted to meet his daughter,” Rupa Rai said while remembering Vajpayee.

She said that Vajpayee was a very humble person. “He was very fond of non-vegetarian food. Whenever he visited our residence, we used to request for his favorite dishes. He liked watching films and listening to music. If he learnt about any Kavi Sammelan or a play happening in the city during his visit, he would reach there without bothering about any invitation,” Rupa Rai said.

NAGPUR: Infuriated over the deteriorating conditions of the hostels of Government Institute of Science, the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a demonstration on August 14 in front of the office of Joint Director (Education) at Dr Vasantrao Naik College in Nagpur.

Due to the negligent attitude of the administration, the students of the Government Institute of Science are compelled to live in dirty and filthy premises of the hostels. Stray dogs and pigs are usually seen roaming and spreading dirt and filth in the premises thus creating unhygienic conditions for the students. The non-functional lights make it difficult for the students to walk in the premises in the dark. These careless approach of the administration is making it tough for the students to live in the hostel and concentrate on studies.

The ABVP members submitted a memorandum to the authority concerned and demanded urgent attention to the grievances of the students. They also warned of intensifying the agitation if their demands were not met in the stipulated time.

Nagpur: In our lives, we encounter many unsupportive folks who put a wet blanket on our aspirations and make us question ourselves and our ability to do anything. ‘Tumse Na Ho Paega’ is their typical quip to hold us off from racing towards our dreams and achieving the impossible. Breaking the shackles of capability, Zee TV is set to launch a new fiction offering, Guddan…Tumse Na Ho Paega, a light-hearted story of a 20-year old girl, Guddan (played by Kanika Mann), who having bumbled and fumbled through most of her life and being told by her own family that she can barely get one thing right, finds herself becoming India’s youngest mother in law to three older daughters-in-law by a quirk of circumstances.

For the first time on television, we will witness a role reversal to the typical saas-bahu relationship as three daughters-in-law set out to seek a suitable bride for their 40-year old father-in-law, Akshat (played by Nishant Singh Malkani) and each, for their own vested interests, get him married to 20-year old Guddan. Being a new saas in a household where the older bahus have ruled the roost for the longest time, Guddan is the quintessential inexperienced outsider faced with resistance, challenges and is time and again stripped powerless by the phrase- Tumse Na Ho Paega. Will Guddan tide over self-doubt and brave all the daily challenges thrown her way to shut down her critics and cynics once and for all by proving Guddan Se Ho Paega? The show is produced by Shoonya Square and will premiere on 3rd September and air Monday to Friday at 8pm on Zee TV! To promote the show, Shweta Mahadik visited Nagpur today.

Guddan…Tumse Na Ho Paega will feature actors Nishant Singh Malkani and Kanika Mann in lead roles while Shweta Mahadik will be seen essaying the character of Durga, Akshat’s eldest daughter-in-law. She is a simple, traditional and dutiful daughter-in-law. The girl Durga and her sisters-in-law zero in on – Guddan is flamboyant, carefree and always ready to take risks, making her commit the silliest of mistakes, while their father-in-law Akshat is a perfectionist with immense maturity. Set against the backdrop of the vibrant city of Indore, Guddan Tumse Na Ho Paega will trace the journey of two contrasting personalities, as they struggle to find common ground to lead a happy married life. As Guddan and Akshat’s contrasting worlds collide, it leads to a lot of drama, some lighter moments and the eternal quest for Guddan to prove that she can take on any challenge and nail it, no matter what her naysayers say.

Talking about her character, Shweta Mahadik said, “Durga is a simple and responsible daughter-in-law. She wants her father-in-law Akshat to get married because she believes that he too deserves a companion. This is my first outing with Zee TV and I am really excited to be a part of a show like Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega that delivers a strong message about the myths surrounding self-doubt and capability. I have visited Nagpur a couple of times in the past and I am happy to be promoting my show in the city today. I am looking forward to relishing some yummy food and exploring the beautiful city while I am here.”
Guddan Tumse Na Ho Paega will also see actors like Sehrish Ali, Daljeet Soundh, Mayank Verma, Rehan Roy and others in pivotal roles.

Nagpur/Parseoni: Arvind Indo Public School at Parseoni, which has been in the news for dubious reasons has once again come to light for yet another glitch. It is learnt that the school principal has secured post graduate degree in Master of Arts through regular course at Nagpur university. Recently, the school was found running 8th and 9th classes without any permission.

When the matter was exposed, the principal and school director hastily transferred the students to Arvind Public School at Heti Surla in Saoner where they were originally given admission.

Now in an inquiry sought by RTI activist Shekhar Kolte the information regarding the latest glitch has come to light. Kolte has filed RTI application before Pariksha Bhawan in Nagpur University.

The information revealed that the school principal Rajeshri Prabhakarrao Deshmukh had taken admission in MA in 2015-16. She completed the course from Mahatma Gandhi Arts and Commerce college which runs under the same institution.

As per the rules, no officer or employee can pursue course as a regular student while being in service. However the options of pursuing course from open universities like IGNOU and Yashwant Rao Chavan Open University are open, but these are also subject to prior permission from the senior officers of the institution as well as education department.

The examinee may take leave during the examination to complete the studies but he or she would not be paid any salary during the said leave period.

On the contrary, sidelining all the norms Principal Deshmukh went on to pursue regular MA course from in-house institution, which has now brought her degree as well her position under scanner.

Kolte has also complained about the glitch to Education Minister, Guardian Minister, Deputy Director of Education, Education Officer and Group Education Officer, and demanded action into the matter.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: After the life-threatening ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ and the weird ‘Kiki Challenge’, yet another form of challenge has come to the fore, which is leaving kids mentally bruised and depressed. The alarming trend of Momo Challenge is fast catching up among young kids in Nagpur too. The Momo challenge is a new online game spreading like a wildfire on social media.

It is learnt that a list of challenges is first given to the user which seems easy initially but pressure starts to build up as one escalates to further levels. As young children and teens are getting more connected and vulnerable to these new challenges thrown across internet, Nagpur police has stepped up to alarm parents on this.

Hudco to donate weed cleaning boat to maintain city lakes

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: As the rains have brought alarming growth of weeds in the city water bodies, Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco) has come up with a noble move. Hudco has expressed its willingness to donate a weed cleaning boat to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

Sources confirmed the development saying that Hudco has expresse interest in donating a weed cleaning boat to the NMC to clean and maintain city’s water bodies.

The NMC has also prepared a detailed project report for Hudco. The city has 13 lakes and the prospect of water hyacinth choking almost 10 water bodies looms large as both the civic authorities — NMC and Nagpur Improvement Trust — have failed to control the weed. Due to lack of corrective measures by the NMC to control pollution, water hyacinth has spread over most water bodies in the city, affecting aquatic life as well as water quality.

The NMC could take two measures to keep the water bodies clean — either by stopping pollution or cleaning the water bodies manually. However, the NMC has taken no measures to stop pollution by letting in sewage water, immersion of idols and dumping of solid waste. For the last couple of years, the NMC had launched a mega awareness drive to save lakes from immersion of idols and dumping of nirmalya.

But as there was no measure to curb sewage water entering the lakes, the effort proved futile. Huge spread of weed has cropped up over Lendi Talao, Naik Talao, Ambazari, Pardi and even Futala lake. As manual cleaning is not conducted regularly, the NMC has failed to de-weed the lakes, admitted a senior official from NMC’s environment section. “The swathes of weed over the water body prevent penetration of sunlight reducing the quality of water.

The decaying vegetative parts too add to the environmental hazards,” he clarified. The ‘special boat’ costs around Rs1.30 crore and Hudco has agreed to donate it to the NMC under its corporate social responsibility. “The NMC has also urged Hudco to maintain the machine for at least seven years, while the civic body has agreed to bear the fuel cost,” he said.

Once the civic body receives the weed cleaning boat, it will prepare a roster on rotation basis to clean the lakes, the official said, adding the NMC will go in for periodical de-weeding of the lakes and it should not be a one-off affair because weeds would grow soon after the de-weeding exercise.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur/Parbhani: Even as the rains have remained a far fetched event for almost a month in Maharashtra, the dry spell has left the farmers in distress, as they rested hopes on the predictions by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Agitated and frustrated over the incorrect weather predictions in the state, the farmer groups in have lodged a complaint with the Parbhani rural police seeking action against the officials under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Back in Nagpur region too, the farmers are reportedly finding the Met department on the wrong end as the latter came up with false prediction about rains.

Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana’s President Manikrao Kadam accused the IMD of duping the farmer community by predicting rainfall during the monsoon season while several parts have been reeling under a dry spell.

The monsoons have taken a break since the third week of July. Corroborating over the same, state agricultural commissioner said that the cumulative rainfall in the state till the second week of August stood at 607.4 mm which is at least 20 per cent short of the 723.7 mm of rainfall normally reported in the state during the above time period.

Meanwhile, Kadam said, “Since the beginning, the weather office has been predicting a normal monsoon for the current year. Based on their prediction, the farmers have invested their capital in seeds and carried out sowing activities. However, rains are absent during the crucial growth phase and the only thing the farmer can now do is to watch his hard-earned investment going waste.”

More than 13.14 lakh hectares of land has been sown this year. Sowing of the majority of the pulses and oilseeds barring soybean has reportedly seen a major dip in the state as farmers have put on hold their on hold their sowing activities. Of the 355 talukas in the state, only 92 have reported above normal rains.

As the farmer community continues to be enraged about this development, the IMD has indicated that rains will make a return in the days to come. Change in weather conditions was reported by the IMD after farmers complained about crop loss due to the dry spell.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

NAGPUR: Hearing the Rs 5 Crore Hawala case, the Nagpur Sessions Court on Saturday granted bail to police constable (writer) Vilas Wadekar against the security of Rs 5 Lakh. The court however rejected bail applications of police constable (driver) Sachin Bajbhuje and other informers.

The accused have been lodged in the Nagpur Central Jail since last four months. Advocates R P Joshi and Sameer Sonawane appeared in the court on behalf of accused constable Vilas Wadekar.

API Sunil Sonawane of Nandanvan police station is also an accused in the case. His advocate Sameer Sonawane informed that the API had not filed any bail application in the Session Court so far.

As per sources, Assistant Police Inspector of Nandanvan police station Sunil Sonawane had usurped Rs 2.50 crores of Hawala seizure. Sonawane is accused of allowing the accused namely Sachin Padgilwar, Pintu Wasnik and Gajanan Munmune to flee the spot. This was established in the investigation done by the Crime Branch. Therefore, API Sonawane, constable Sachin Bhajbuje, constable Wadekar and one more accused were arrested in the case.

It may be recalled that one early Sunday morning in April 2018, police had intercepted a Duster vehicle near Prajapati Square on Pardi Road and seized crores of rupees of Hawala from the car. The money belonged to Khajan Thakkar, the owner of Maple Jewellers in Raipur. The money was being transferred to Hawala businessman Prashant Kesani in Nagpur. This was informed by vehicle driver Rajesh Mendhe, a resident of Minimata Nagar in Kalamna, and Gulabchand Jain, a resident of Tulsi Nagar in Shanti Nagar.

That morning, police has summoned Prashant Kesani but instead one Manish Khandelwal reached the police station. Manish had provided the keys of the locker in the Duster car. On opening the lockers, police had seized cash of crores of rupees. API Sonawane and his associates had illegally parted crores of rupees among themselves. This was suspected by Manish Khandelwal and ACP Nilesh Bharne had instituted an enquiry in the matter. The investigation report had found API Sonawane guilty of the crime.

Meanwhile police had arrested Sachin Padgilwar, Pintu Wasnik and Gajanan Munmune from Mahabaleshwar. Deputy CP of Crime Branch Sambhaji Kadam had interrogated police officials and employees in the case and found the charges to be true.
