No difference between party and state under Modi regime: Kapil Sibal

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

NAGPUR: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Saturday said the dividing line between the “state” and the “party” was blurred under the BJP-led government.

Speaking at a panel discussion in Nagpur, the former Union minister also said that the UPA government which was accused of lacking a “strong leader” delivered better economic growth.

He was speaking on the topic ‘Conflict in Democracy’.

To a question about the alleged use of “street violence” by those in power, Sibal said, “This is a problem which arises when there is no difference between the state and the party.

“The reason why this is happening on the streets is that the party is ruling the government, but the government is not ruling this nation.

“If the BJP comes back to power, this will continue, and if there is a coalition government, this will not happen,” he opined.

The senior Congress leader argued that coalition politics produced much more economic growth for the country than a government led by a strong leader, in an apparent swipe at the Narendra Modi regime.

“We (UPA government) had GDP (growth) of 8.1 per cent for 10 years. According to this government, we had no strong leader, but yet we delivered and it is the coalition that delivered, not a party which had absolute majority,” he said.

“The quality of democracy in the country is now different from that between 2004 to 2014, but democracy is still alive, no matter who is in power,” Sibal said.

“However, the nature of democracy has changed and the reason why the nature of democracy has changed (is) because we have a centralised system of decision-making (now),” he said.

The government is being run solely by the Prime Minister’s Office, he claimed.

“Key institutions in this country are now suspected of collaborating with the government. It is true of the Election Commission, CBI, Enforcement agencies, Income Tax, so they are long arms of the government,” the Congress leader said.

“Earlier, the party in power did not amalgamate itself into the state, the two remained separate; but now for the first time in our history, there is no difference between the party and the state,” Sibal said.

“Nagpur controls India”, the eminent lawyer said, alluding to the RSS which has its headquarters in the city.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur:The long wait for McDonald’s will soon be over! Coming up as a delightful surprise for all the food lovers and those who binge on quick food diet, McDonald’s outlet will be opened soon at an upcoming mall near Medical Square.

The Tata Group is coming up with a Trilium Mall in its township Tata Capitol Heights at Rambagh on Great Nag Road. A huge billboard of McDonald’s outside mall area has been catching fancy of food lovers these days.

Even as a major chunk of project is nearing completion, the food enthusiasts are looking forward towards the McDonald’s outlet.

McDonald’s is an American fast food company, founded in 1940 as a restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald, in San Bernardino, California, United States.

For long, the fast food patrons have been awaiting the arrival of this fast food giant as the bigwigs like Dominos and KFC had entered in, while Panino, yet another local sandwich chain was already doing brisk business. There was a buzz that McDonalds will be coming up at Empress Mall near Gandhi Sagar lake, but soon all the air settled down.

The big ticket size and need for daily quantum of business were cited as reasons behind McDonald’s reluctance to open its outlet in Nagpur. It may be mentioned that McDonald’s never give franchise but runs self-owned outlets across India.

Commenting on the scenario Jayesh Bagde, COO of Panino Foods India Pvt Ltd, told Nagpur Today, “Actually McDonald require a huge business proportions in the form of orders intake. This could roughly accounts for a daily counter of Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 lakh, against the existing players.” Panino is yet another upmarket fast food chain in Nagpur having outlets at various locations in city.

Bagde was of the view that at present Dominos may require daily sale of Rs 75,000 and KFC must be needing orders worth 1.25 lakh a day to stay afloat. On the other hand, Panino, which is fast expanding base in business and servings, stands at daily orders of nearly Rs 30,000-Rs 35,000.

Sources said that arrival of McDonald’s in the town may further trigger a price war among the fast food biggies.

In a similar such incident, a young couple along with their NRI friend were ruthlessly beaten by few hooligans in porch area of Hotel Tuli International in Sadar on Saturday night.

The incident happened when they were stepping out of the hotel after having a party late night on Saturday at Hotel Tuli International’s pub Rythm and Blues, which usually remains open till wee hours on weekends.

Sadar police have booked two people identifed as Arbaaz and Fahad Baig under section 354-B of IPC upon the complaint of victim’s wife. Cops are reportedly on the hunt for these two men and their other accomplices.

The young couple, who was accompanied by the man’s sister and the NRI friend who came to meet them from Phillipines, reportedly had a spat with another youth who was also in the pub at that night. One of the group members reportedly objected to the comment passed by this youth about the man’s wife while stepping out from the pub.

Later when the youths were walking to the parking area from hotel’s porch, 4-5 men reportedly came in the car (Maruti Ritz) and started beating them.

But as we reached the parking area, few men disembarked from a car and started beating us blue and black. In a bid to save ourselves we ran towards the hotel’s porch area. Meanwhile, those men fled the spot after hearing the police siren.”

Tekdi Flyover

Nagpur : Despite the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) clearing proposals of transferring land and demolishing Tekdi flyover for Metro Rail project and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari directing authorities to speed up these works, it seems that officials concerned have almost forgotten to demolish the flyover in front of Nagpur Railway Station. This has led to regular traffic chaos in that area.

Over two months have passed since the proposal was cleared but the authorities haven’t started any process whereas the Metro Rail department has been given green signal for transfer of 70,424 square meter of land.

No coordination between NMC and Metro Rail

The NMC has decided to hand over land to Metro Rail but the land transfer is yet to happen and this is reportedly delaying the work. Due to lack of coordination between the officials of Metro Rail and the NMC, the development works, proposed to be undertaken on the road after demolition of the flyover, have also not be planned and finalized., sources said. It was informed that the NMC has to first demolish the Tekdi flyover and then hand over the land to Metro Rail for development works.

Slow pace of work by NMC
As per information, the Metro Rail Corporation has to give 5% of the project cost to NMC against land transfer. Moreover, NMC will have 50% share in the revenue from the malls that are being constructed by the Metro Rail. It was informed in the NMC meeting that its market department had issued 1109 licenses to shop owners at Tekdi flyover. Out of these, around 135 shop owners are running their businesses from these shops.

The eligibility of these business owners will be valiated and they will provided shops at the proposed business complex to be constructed by the Metro Rail Corporation. The NMC will again have 50% share in the revenue from this business complex. As per sources, the NMC is dillydallying the work of validation of elegibility of the shop owners.
