Nagpur: Amid the growing menace of hookah parlours in Nagpur – the murky trend fast catching up among the college goers and teenagers, the higher ups in the police department has now decided to eventually nail the restaurants rather harder this time! Not only for Nagpur, the recent police order has meant action for all the civic bodies under whose jurisdiction such a menace is flourishing. To effectively crack down on such outlets, Maharashtra’s Director General of Police (DGP) Satish Mathur has directed all police units to recommend respective municipal corporations for cancellation of permissions to the hookah joints operating in their jurisdiction.

It may be mentioned here that many hookah parlours in Nagpur are serving hookah under the garb of providing an upscale sitouts for the youngsters. Sources revealed that these properties include Carnations Rooftop Restaurant, Sadar; Sijazz Cafe Town Land Futala, Ambazari; Vipul house restaurant, Bharat Nagar, Ambazari; Lake Side Grill, Futala, Ambazari; GBS Restaurant, Futala, Ambazari; Kerbstone Lounge, Ravi Nagar Square, Ambazari; Koba Lounge, Ravi Nagar Square, Ambazari; Waffle House, Ravi Nagar; Flames Cafe Lounge, Ambazari; Spot 9 Restaurant, Ambazari; PaiPick Dreams Cafe, Utkarsh Apartment, Sadar; WTF Restaurant, MIDC; Ten11 Restaurant, Rana Pratap Nagar; Skyfall Lounge & Cigaars, Rana Pratap Nagar; Winds & Woods, Sadar; Checkmate Cafe Lounge, North Ambazari Road; Roof 9, Dharampeth; Fusion Cafe & Lounge, Dharampeth.

All these hookah joints and restaurants were raided by the police in year 2017 and 2018. The cops will now write a letter to NMC and press for cancellation of restaurant permissions to these establishments.

The top cop has accorded top priority to the issue and directed all units to compile data of action under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) in every monthly crime meeting.

In his circular to police unit the DGP has asked the force to step in to crush the menace of hookah joints who were found violating rules of COTPA. “Write a letter to concerned officials of Municipal Corporation to cancel the license of the hookah joints immediately after the joint is raided also listing the violations,” the DGP has stated in the circular.

The joints have always remained under scanner of narcotics units and were also proving to be a social problem. Despite police action many of the hookah joints were refusing to mend their ways.

“More than 60 hookah joints are operating in the city. Police have registered cases under COTPA against around 30 hookah joints so far,” a police officer informed.

And yet, many of the joints were operating in the city without any fear of law. This was because the municipal corporation had not initiated any action against them.

After ascertaining the facts and the go-slow approach of the authorities, DGP Satish Mathur has now asked his force to pull up the socks and take stern action against the hookah joints.

The decision regarding the nomination of the standing Committee Chairman is taken by the two big leaders, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on the basis electoral reviews.

Keeping in mind the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections next year the Chairman of the Standing Committee will be nominated. If no one is found capable for this Chairman’s post the Sandip Jadhav can be given a second chance. There is also a talk that Jadhav according to these two minister will be the appropriate BJP candidate for North Nagpur. In this case Sandip Jadhav cannot be given a chance second time to be the Chairman of Standing Committee.

In the present situation the Mayor and ruling party leader will be from South-West Assembly area and the Chairman of Standing Committee may be from Central, East, North or South.

As per the strategy of BJP the term of Mayor is of 15 months and as soon as it ends a OBC woman candidate like corporators Divya Ghurde or ChetnaTank can get a chance. On the other hand for the Chairman’s posts the candidates can be from North like Vicky Kukreja, from Central Nagpur Halba Corporator Pravin Bhishikar or any other, from East Nagpur Pradip Pohane, Chetna Tank, from South Satish Hole, Pinto Zalke have a claim. Till now Divya Ghurde and Chetna Tank have not been given any big post. For Ghurde former Mayor is making all efforts while for Tank her fate would be decided by Gadkari and Fadnavis.

The Coporators of East Nagpur who were well known on their own were opposed by the BJP MLAs. Satish Hole has already been given a chance of Deputy Mayor by BJP while Vicky Kukreja is Deputy Chairman of Fire Department and is the deputy leader of BJP in NMC. Since he being a builder by profession he has taken lot of benefit of his post. In Fire Department no builder should be given a chance, people feel.

V-Day Alert : MTPs among unmarried women on the rise in Nagpur

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: This may come as a shocker at a time when the young and going generation is celebrating Valentine’s Day throughout city. In an alarming trend, the young girls of Nagpur are fast catching up pregnancy before marriage. This is purely evident from the figures that turned out in response to an RTI query filed by a citizen named Abhay Kolarkar.

The RTI reply revealed that during the last six years till December 2017 a total of 1650 unmarried women opted for Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP). These figures are collected from the government and private hospitals along with those run by Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

However experts believe that though shocking, these figures may be far lower than the actual numbers happening. They believe that the actual number of unmarried women opting for MTP during these years may be much higher than what is supplied. This fact holds substance in the light of the fact that many cases do not come to light for the fear of societal pressures and the taboo attached to getting pregnant before marriage.

It may be mentioned that as per the government directives issued on December 2012, it is mandatory for the civic body to maintain the record of MTPs being performed in all the city hospitals. During the year 2012-13m 324 cases of MTP were registered while 472 MTP cases were registered in 2013-14. Similarly in 2014-15, 260 cases were registered.
The RTI reply also revealed that four unmarried girls died while undergoing MTP whereas three young girls died in 2015-16. One death was recorded in 2017. Civic body has registered 984 MTPs in its hospitals while 388 cases were registered in Mayo Hospital and 496 cases were recorded at Panchpaoli hospital.

Senior medical practitioner Dr Avinash Banait was of the view that lack of proper sex education could be the reason behind this alarming trend. Secondly the free availability of internet has made the access to porn sites easier than ever which has only added fuel to the fire. These result in such unwanted pregnancies, he added.

Dr Banait said that its high time parents should come forward and communicate with their children in order to make them aware about such complications.

It also meant some amount of shyness too.

And that is why the nembers of Girls’ Islamic Organisation of India marked the Valentine’s Day in Nagpur as ‘Haya-Day’.

Many of the girls from the organisation took to streets with placards displaying “Haya Day 14th February.” The placards further present the word ‘Haya’ (means sharm in Hindi and shyness in English) embedded into a heart. The caption reads – Haya is the part of our faith.

Nagpur: Keeping a side the sanctioned plan of Nagpur Municipal Coproration’s Planning Department, permission has been granted by the concerned department of administartion to open a roof top restaurant named ‘Terrace wheel’ on the terrace of building at Zenda Chowk, Dharmpeth. The restaurant was started a few days back. The owner of this land in a letter to the Municipal Commissioner has asked to cancel the licence of this restaurant. The Municipal Corporation has failed to take cognisance of this.

Narhari Parmanand Joshi the owner of the land where this building has come up had written the letter last week to Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal and informed him that he is a joint owner of this Gokul Roshan building which is situated at Zenda Chowk. The joint owners of the land had made an agreement with Pankaj Construction for constructing a building. The owner of Pankaj Construction company Panakj Dhawan got the plan sanctioned. After this the construction company carried out construction work against the sanctioned plan. A complaint regarding this was made to NMC Town Planning Department and Dharmpeth Zone. In the meantime The construction company to get the constructed part authorised gave a new map for sanctioning. A revised map along with application was submitted to town planning Department.

Joshi informed the Municipal Commissioner that the Town Planning Department had rejected this plan in year 2015. Despite this Dhawan did not demolish the illegal structure instead opened a roof top restaurant in the month of Febraury. On the Valentine Day a party was organised and till late night the clamour of youths was heard. Before starting the restaurant Dhawan had not taken permission from the land owners. Joshi demanded legal action against the illegal restaurant.

It may be mentioned that the police Department has instructed the NMC administration to take action against those running roof top restaurants with city illegally. Now it remains to be seen what action NMC takes in such cases.
