Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: At a time when the nation is shocked at the whopping $ 1.8 billion fraud involving Punjab National Bank, back home the grass is certainly not greener for the defaulters, albeit in different loan default case. The point in question here is veteran Congress leader Ranjeet Deshmukh who residence in Civil Lines Bhaskar Bhavan is on the verge of auction for his inability to pay off the business loan taken from IDBI bank.

It may be mentioned that Deshmukh along Pallavi Parekh had taken a loan of Rs4.95 crore for setting up a company Percept Web Solutions in Mihan. Deshmukh’s residence opposite MLA Hostel and some other properties were provided as collateral.

District collector office is likely to seize his property on February 20 under Bank Securitization Act.

The business went bust and Percept Web Solutions could not pay off the loan. The loan amount including the interest had reached Rs5.70 crore. IDBI therefore decided to auction the collateral to recover its loan.

Sources in IDBI said that the Percept loan was classified as non-performing asset (NPA). Deshmukh was frequently contacted regarding recovery of the loan but he did not respond. He was issued several notices regarding possession notice, title search repot, mortgage deed, etc but in vain.

Left with no option, IDBI officials sought permission of district collector under The Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act (commonly known as Securitization Act), for auctioning Deshmukh’s property. District collector has agreed to seize Deshmukh’s property and hand it over to the bank.

When contacted, Deshmukh admitted to receiving the attachment notice. “I had paid off Rs1.95 crore in September. The Parekh’s have not paid their share of the loan. The bank officials should now go after them,” he said.

Simultaneously, the trader from Yavatmal identified as Prajwal Chavan, 25 was also arrested.

Ingley along with constables Deshmukh and Swati Mohade wore the attire of specific community. In the story, Swati acted as the lonely wife of gangster who is in jail. She messaged Sikander to meet her on Valentine’s Day. Meanwhile, she also alerted the cops to lay the trap. When Sikander arrived cops waiting in the autorickshaw intercepted him and recovered firearm. Sikander then took the cops to Saddam, Salman and Moheb.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Taking up the cause of 17 former employees of NMC and appealing to his own government proved costly for the President of Nagpur BJP OBC Cell. Till yesterday Subhash Ghate was the President of Nagpur BJP OBC Cell but on Friday through a letter he was removed from the post. Subhash Ghate was trying to get back the jobs of OBC community’s 17 former employees of NMC. It is feared that Subhash has been punished for agitating and constantly talking against his own government. He was even arrested for trying to commit suicide infront of Chief Minister’s Nagpur residence. As per Subhash, he had gone their to stop the other persons who were trying to commit suicide.

According to Subhash he has not received any such letter stating that he has been removed from the post and in case such action has been taken, he accepts it for the OBC community and will continue to work for the party as loyalist.

The real issue

The 17 former employees of NMC have been fighting for appointment in various departments of NMC despite the court’s order. During 1993 there were 256 surplus employees and 106 employees were terminated from their jobs. In 1997 the present chief Minister had ordered reinstatement of these employees. After this order out of the 106 only 89 were taken back on job while 17 have still not got justice. The had gone to the court too. In presence of Town Planning Department Chief Secretary T C Benjamin and during the tenure of Chief Minister Vilasrao Desmukh the hearing of these employees was held. The orders for reinstatement were given. Subhash Ghate was fighting for their cause. When the BJP government came to power he was hopeful that this case will be settled but such thing did not happen. After the agitation at Ramgiri, NMC administration received letter from Town Planning Department for re-appointment of 17 persons. But according to Subhash Ghate in this letter there was no direct order and nothing was clear.

‘Separate Vidarbha not possible now’

Answering to the question over separate Vidarbha the Finance Minister did not give clear answer rather tried to dodge. According to him it is necessary to pass the resolution on the basis of majority in Legislative Assembly for forming a separate state. Even though if he has a mind to give separate Vidarbha yet due to insufficient number it is just not possible.

Nagpur: After Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court refused to entertain their pleas, three agents of Shreesurya Group on Friday withdrew their applications for quashing of FIRs lodged in Akola. A division bench comprising justices Vasanti Naik and Arun Upadhye held that each complaint in the scam would need independent investigations.

The criminal application was moved by accused Mohan, Mangeshi and Mukund Pitale, praying to quash the FIR filed by one of Shreesurya’s investors in Akola. Counsel Anand Deshpande, appearing for the petitioners, contended that a second FIR in connection with the same crime cannot be lodged, as first one was already in existence.

The Shreesurya Group collected funds from over 5,500 investors, many of them senior citizens, with guarantee to double the amount invested in a couple of years. The group floated variety of businesses including construction, milk supply, restaurants, gymnasiums, hospitals, transport, insurance, and others. The schemes went bust in 2013. After complaints in Pune, Amravati and Akola, the Joshi couple was arrested.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Giving a boost to the irrigation sector, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to build check dams along with bridges in the state. Hundred such structures will be built including 35 in Vidarbha. This will irrigate between 40,000 to 50,000 hectares. A pilot project has been launched in Buldhana district. NHAI contractors need earth for road works. They will take away the silt thus effective storage of water bodies will increase

Addressing the two-day groundwater conclave ‘Bhujal Manthan’ on Friday, Union water resources minister Nitin Gadkari said that NHAI would also desilt dams. “A pilot project has been launched in Buldhana district. NHAI contractors need earth for road works. They will take away the silt and the effective storage of the water bodies will increase,” he added.

The minister said that river-linking projects also would be taken up in the state. “Rainwater in Konkan goes into the sea. We will build five to six dams in the region and transport the water to parched Marathwada region. We will also link Narmada river with Tapi,” he further said.

Turning to the national scene, Gadkari said that water of Himalayan rivers was not being used fully. “We will build three dams in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. This will double the water in Yamuna river and provide water to Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. We will also build Pancheshwar project on Indo-Nepal border. It will bring more water into Yamuna and also generate 6,000 MW electricity,” he added.

“India is not using its full share of water of rivers that flow into Pakistan. We will, therefore, build dams in Kashmir on these rivers,” the minister said.

Batting for river-linking, Gadkari said that Godavari water was being transported to Krishna river through the Rs10,000 crore Polavaram dam and canal project. “We will also do river-linking in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

“Indravati river in Gadchiroli district has lot of water but it is not possible to build a dam on it because of dense forest. We will transport the water to Tamil Nadu. I have sought no objection certificate from governments of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh for this purpose,” Gadkari said.

On the present initiatives of the central government, the minister said that there were several projects which were incomplete in spite of the spending hundreds of crores of rupees. “We have decided to provide funds for completing projects on which more than 50% work is over. 99 projects have been included for funding and out of that 28 are in Maharashtra. Also, 350 more projects are in the pipeline,” he added.

The minister urged farmers to go in for testing of groundwater. “I had started dairy business in Dhapewada but it failed because water was not suitable for cattle,” he said.
Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union minister of state for water resources, UC Singh, principal secretary (water resources), government of India, state minister for water resources Girish Mahajan and KC Naik, chairman of Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) also expressed their views in the convention.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Rebel BJP leader Yashwant Sinha once again trained his guns at BJP government at centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ignoring farmers’ plight. BJP MLA from Katol Ashish Deshmukh went a step further demanding the resignation of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. Sinha was in Katol to attend Deshmukh’s indefinite strike seeking justice for hailstorm hit farmers in his constituency.

The former union minister has been launching attacks on BJP from several platforms. His son Jayant Sinha is the union minister of state for finance.

Meanwhile, former NCP minister Anil Deshmukh staged a road blockade in Katol over BJP government’s failure to address problems of farmers. He alleged that the state government was fooling the farmers.

“I feel like a culprit owing to my political allegiance with BJP”, said Sinha while addressing the farmers on the third day of the strike on Friday. “Promises made to the farmers by the current government is yet to see the light of the day. Farmers today are facing the worst times since independence due to government’s apathy and ignorance. Unlike developed countries who focus on agriculture and its subsequent spending, our political leaders especially the current ones only speak rather than actually act on it,” added Sinha.

Around 500 farmers were part of the strike, which began after the region experienced hailstorm on Tuesday resulting in destruction of the crops. The indefinite strike started by Deshmukh began on Wednesday at Katol, demanding the government to provide relief to the farmers through loan waiver and funds.

Further slamming the PM, Sinha said, “Our prime minister addressed the youth on methods to deal with exam stress as he has exemplary experience in the arena. I also expected him to speak on the issue of farmers and the crippling problem of farmers suicides but hardly did he address the real problem that is weakening our nation.”

Ashish Deshmukh added, “Fadnavis must resign. Not only has he failed to live up to the expectations but the ignorant attitude towards real issues have made the public lose faith in him. The fact that farmer issues have become mere political agendas to garner votes is a serious issue. Numerous farmers are claiming they their affiliation to BJP has resulted in nothing but fake promises and loss.”

Condemning the policies of the government, Deshmukh added, “The policies never reach the actual farmers resulting in farmer suicides. One needs to introspect on the policies that has been created by the government, yet farmer suicides are increasing every day,” adding that the strike will continue till the demands of the farmers are met.

Dubious Duty : Lady cop at emergency number irked as citizens reported fatal accident

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Nothing can match this irony and negligence on the part of staff at police control room! The fatal accident near Waddhamna on Amravati road that killed 7 students brought to the fore the alarming lapses on the part of the people on duty. In a shocking height of insanity and ignorance of the staff deputed at police control room, understood to be crucial in times of emergency and fatal accidents, the policewoman on duty responded like a naive and instead rebuked the citizen who called up at the emergency number to report the accident.

It may be mentioned that the joyride turned into a tragedy for eight Hislop college students when seven of them were killed as the car they were travelling in lost control and rammed into a parked trailer near Highland Park, around 21 km away from city, on Amravati road. The mishap occurred at about 3.15 pm on Friday.

Immediately after the accident, the citizens kept calling at the emergency number 100 to report the deaths, to no avail. The lady cop on the other end reportedly took the incident in ‘true blue sarkari style’ without showing any sign of emergency.

In one of the two audio clips which is doing the rounds on Whatsapp, an alert citizen is heard informing the lady on duty but she tried to shrug off her duty and asked the citizen to call at certain number. When the man insisted on taking the report, she got irked and instead rebuked at the man.

Interestingly in another clip the conversation showed that woman on duty does not even know the area under which Waddhamna falls. Like an amateur, the police woman started inquiring without giving a damn to the urgency during those crucial moments.

This incident has exposed the casual approach of the emergency duty staff at police control room.
Meanwhile, the deceased have been identified as Vishal Rathwani (21, BCom 2nd year), Divya Paku (21, BCA 1st year), Satyanand Singh (20, BCCA 2nd year), Dhiraj Pathade (20, Bcom 2nd year), Nisha Nikam (21, BA 2nd year), Maitrey Awale (22, BMS 2nd year) and Evana Parveen Khan (22, Bsc 2nd year). Shahbaz Zafar Alwi (22, Bcom 2nd year) is the sole survivor. Evana is daughter of an Army officer posted in Assam while Nisha is daughter of a police inspector posted in city crime branch.

Unconfirmed reports said there was a liquor bottle and cigarette packet in the vehicle but it’s not known if any of occupants had consumed them.

The mangled car had to be pulled out from under the trailer where it had got stuck. Eyewitness Harpal Singh, also one of the rescuers, asked his driver to move the trailer so the car could be retrieved. “We had to use iron rods to break the car’s door open,” he said. “Some of them (victims) were still breathing at the time,” he said.
