Political Family’s Domestic Dispute Reaches Court, Priya Phuke Granted Pre-Arrest Bail

Nagpur: A domestic dispute involving a prominent political family in Maharashtra’s sub-capital Nagpur has now reached the courtroom. Priya Sanket Phuke, the daughter-in-law in the case, approached the District Sessions Court seeking protection from alleged harassment. After hearing both sides, Additional Sessions Judge S.C. Pathare granted her anticipatory bail with conditions.

The case stems from a complaint filed by Priya’s mother-in-law, Rama Phuke, at Ambazari Police Station. Based on her complaint, the police registered an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 Sections 308(2), 329(4), 351(2), and 352.

Allegations Include Monetary Demands and Threats

According to the police complaint, Rama Phuke and her husband Ramesh Phuke reside together. Their son Sanket was married to Priya in 2012. After Sanket’s death in 2022, Priya moved out with her two children. Rama alleges that Priya demanded money regularly, and upon refusal, used abusive language and issued threats.

On May 6, 2025, Priya allegedly came to their home, verbally abused them, and threatened to prevent them from meeting their grandchildren unless she was paid. She also allegedly threatened to defame them on social media.

Priya Denies Allegations, Points to Prior Complaint Against In-Laws

During the court hearing, Priya’s lawyer argued that the accusations were false and intended to harass her. He pointed out that Priya had already filed a police complaint against her in-laws on April 6, 2025 — prior to the FIR lodged by Rama.

Despite opposition from the prosecution, the court noted that the issue appeared to be a family dispute, primarily concerning visitation rights to the grandchildren. The family court had already granted visitation rights to Rama and her husband on April 8, 2025.

Court Takes a Balanced View, Considers Mother’s Situation

In its order, the court acknowledged that Priya is a widow and mother of two minor children. It observed that the core dispute appeared to revolve around access to the children, not a criminal offense warranting immediate custody.

Taking all circumstances into account, the court granted Priya Phuke anticipatory bail and laid the groundwork for further proceedings. The matter now continues on both legal and familial fronts.

Nagpur: In a major case of cargo theft, electronic goods worth nearly Rs 25 lakh—including over 200 smartphones, batteries, monitors, and desktops—were reported missing from a consignment truck that was en route from Chennai to Nagpur.

The incident came to light on May 28, when staff at the transport company’s Nagpur branch in Fetri, Lava, began verifying the shipment after its arrival. The truck, which had departed from Chennai on the morning of May 27, was supposed to deliver the consignment to a warehouse near Hiranwar Lawn the next day.

However, during inspection, company officials discovered that a significant portion of the consignment had been pilfered. The missing items were valued at Rs 24.64 lakh, prompting the company to approach police.

A formal complaint was lodged by Krishnakumar Srivastava (47), manager of the transport company’s Nagpur office. Based on his complaint, Wadi Police registered an offence under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unidentified accused.

“The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between 7 am on May 27 and 10:30 am on May 28, during the journey from Chennai to Nagpur,” an official from Wadi Police told reporters.

The case has been handed over to the Detection Branch (DB Squad), which is now probing all angles, including a possible highway interception or insider involvement. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage along the transport route and analyzing the truck’s movement.

As the investigation intensifies, police hope that digital and forensic clues will help track down the culprits and recover the stolen electronics.

Nagpur: Emphasizing the need for responsive governance, Revenue Minister and Guardian Minister for Nagpur and Amravati districts, Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Sunday directed administrative officials to promptly address and resolve citizens’ concerns, particularly those related to the implementation of state welfare schemes.

Bawankule was speaking at his third Janata Darbar in less than a month, held at the Zilla Niyojan Bhavan in Sadar, in Nagpur, where 207 citizens turned up to present their grievances directly to him and senior officers from various departments.

“The administration must ensure that all eligible citizens benefit from government schemes. If they face any issues, officials must act swiftly and transparently to resolve them,” Bawankule stated during the public interaction.

The Janata Darbar was organized to facilitate the timely redressal of grassroots issues and to ensure smoother coordination between the public and government departments. A wide range of concerns were raised, including those related to students, persons with disabilities, women, senior citizens, and other marginalized groups.

Bawankule instructed departmental heads to act immediately on complaints, especially those related to healthcare, which featured prominently during the session. He also emphasized that all pending and eligible cases must be resolved without unnecessary delay, and added that progress reports on each complaint would be reviewed at the next meeting.

During the event, citizens submitted memorandums covering a variety of topics such as:

• Delays in availing welfare schemes

• Healthcare services

• Encroachments

• Anganwadi and nursing staff issues

• Electricity distribution problems

• Agricultural and sports-related grievances

• Revenue and land record disputes

Several senior officials, including sub-divisional officers, tehsildars, deputy tehsildars, and circle officers, were present to directly address complaints and initiate on-the-spot resolutions wherever possible.

Though framed as an administrative initiative, the timing and increasing frequency of such Janata Darbars are being seen in the context of the upcoming Zilla Parishad and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections.

Commercial LPG cylinder price cut by Rs 24.50

Nagpur: Oil marketing companies announced on Saturday that the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders will be reduced by Rs 24.50 from June 1.

The prices for domestic LPG domestic cylinders remained unchanged.

The new price adjustment will be positive news for commercial establishments as well as small businesses, including restaurants, hotels, and others, that rely heavily on LPG for their operations.

In India, around 90 per cent of LPG consumption is used for household cooking, while the remaining 10 per cent is used in industrial, commercial, and automotive sectors. LPG prices will have variations from state to state based on local taxes and transportation costs. Cooking gas prices remain the same

The BJP-led Union government had increased the LPG domestic cylinder price by Rs 50 in March after global crude oil prices rose due to tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump.

India’s policy mandates that the natural gas produced in the country be priced 10 percent of the crude basket. The average cost of the Indian crude basket fell to $64.5 a barrel in May 2025, which is the lowest in over three years.

LPG losses incurred by oil marketing companies are expected to decrease by around 45 per cent in the financial year 2026 if crude oil prices remain stable at $65 per barrel.

Over the last ten years, the number of domestic LPG consumers has doubled, reaching approximately 33 crores as of April 1, 2025.

Manewada-Besa Road turns into a traffic living hell, Nagpurians fume over apathy

$

Nagpur: The Manewada-Besa Road in Nagpur has turned into a living hell for commuters, with traffic congestion becoming a daily ordeal. Traffic jams, once an occasional inconvenience, have now become a chronic urban illness in Nagpur. On Sunday night, the situation spiralled out of control in the Besa area, where hundreds of vehicles were seen crawling along the road for over four gruelling hours, with queues stretching over a kilometre in both directions.

Commuters were left stranded, helpless and frustrated. Many reached their destinations hours late, stuck in a jam that exposed the utter failure of the city’s traffic management system. While the traffic police are quick to issue challans, they remain shockingly indifferent when it comes to actually managing traffic flow. The absence of any response from either the police or civic administration during Sunday’s chaos has drawn widespread anger from residents.

Citizens are raising serious questions: Why is the administration only visible during VIP movements? Roads are cleared swiftly for political motorcades, but when common people suffer in gridlocked streets, authorities turn a blind eye.

Adding to the mess is rampant encroachment. Locals pointed out that near the HDFC Bank on Besa Road, illegal shops have cropped up, and a garage operates in full swing. Customers park their vehicles haphazardly on the road while garage-bound cars are lined up on both the road and the footpath—completely choking the already narrow stretch.

To make matters worse, utility poles at every left turn in Besa Chowk have become physical obstructions. These poles, inexplicably planted in the middle of key turns, act as bottlenecks, drastically slowing down traffic. This flawed infrastructure design results in long lines of vehicles inching forward, one behind the other, with no escape route.

Residents are now demanding immediate removal of these obstructive poles and strict action against illegal encroachments. They warn that if the administration continues to ignore ground realities, public frustration could soon erupt into protest.

Zooming ahead: Samruddhi Mahamarg fully opens on June 5, now Nagpur-Mumbai in just 8 hours

Nagpur/Mumbai: Maharashtra’s flagship infrastructure project — the 701-km Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg — is set to become fully operational with the inauguration of its final 76-km stretch between Igatpuri (Nashik) and Amane (Thane) on June 5. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will formally open the stretch, which will also be thrown open to traffic the same day.

The completion marks a historic milestone for the Rs 55,000-crore mega expressway, which will now connect Nagpur to Mumbai in just eight hours, halving the earlier 16-hour journey.

“This is the final link, and it’s ready. The CM will inaugurate the stretch on Thursday,” confirmed Anil Gaikwad, Managing Director, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,182 crore, the final section features three key interchanges at Igatpuri, Kutghar (Shahapur), and Amane (Thane). Its crown jewel is a 7.8-km tunnel near Kasara Ghat — the longest highway tunnel in India — which bypasses the steep, winding ascents of the old Mumbai-Nashik route. The result: a sharp reduction in elevation from 450 metres to just 160 metres, and a cut in travel time on this stretch from 90 to 40 minutes.

A vision realised

Conceptualised by Fadnavis during his first tenure as CM, the expressway encountered early resistance over land acquisition but ultimately overcame the challenges to become one of India’s most transformative road infrastructure ventures. It spans 10 districts and 390 villages, weaving through the heart of Maharashtra with 33 major bridges, 274 minor bridges, 65 flyovers, and six tunnels.

The project was executed in phases:

• Phase 1 (Nagpur–Shirdi): Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2022

• Phase 2 (Shirdi–Bharvir): Opened by CM Eknath Shinde in May 2023

• Phase 3 (Bharvir–Igatpuri): Inaugurated by then MSRDC Minister Dada Bhuse in March 2024

With the final Igatpuri-Amane leg in place, the Samruddhi Mahamarg is now a seamless corridor of speed, commerce, and connectivity, built to handle speeds up to 150 kmph. It is expected to give a massive boost to logistics, tourism, and economic development in the state.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided Galaxy Inn and Restaurant on Old Pandhurna Road in Saoner and arrested four accused involved in the trafficking and exploitation of women and minors. During the raid, police detained Suraj Pilaji Milmile (28), the hotel owner from Satnaur, Saunsar, Pandhurna district, Madhya Pradesh. Dhantoli Police open new outpost in Rahul Nagar to curb crime

Nagpur: In a decisive push to improve law and order and respond swiftly to public grievances, the Dhantoli Police have launched a new police outpost in the densely populated Rahul Nagar area. The move, initiated under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner, aims to boost policing in some of the city’s more vulnerable pockets.

The newly inaugurated Rahul Nagar Police Outpost will serve as a frontline unit covering high-density zones like Rahul Nagar, Priyankawadi, Hindustan Colony, Gajanan Nagar, and Samarth Nagar — all areas that have witnessed a spike in petty crimes and safety concerns in recent years.

The outpost was formally inaugurated at 12:30 pm on June 2 by DCP Rahul Madane (Zone 2), accompanied by ACP Sudhir Nandanwar (Sitabuldi Division). Also present were Senior PI Anamika Mirzapure of Dhantoli Police Station, her team, and local residents who welcomed the move as a much-needed step toward ensuring neighbourhood security.

Officials said the outpost will enable quicker response times, improved patrolling, and closer engagement with citizens. “This is not just about a building; it’s about building trust,” said a senior police officer at the inauguration.

With this latest outpost, Nagpur Police aims to deepen its community policing approach, deter criminal activity, and create a more secure environment for local residents.

False alarm: Rape rumours in Nagpur Garden spark panic, Dhantoli cops set record straight

Nagpur: A moment of misunderstanding in Gajanan Nagar late Sunday night quickly snowballed into rumours of a horrific crime — but Dhantoli Police were quick to set the record straight.

Around 11 pm on June 1, panic gripped residents near the Gajanan Nagar Garden when they spotted a specially-abled woman in a partially disrobed state. Alarmed and fearing the worst, some locals assumed she had been sexually assaulted and immediately dialled the police.

But what unfolded was not a crime scene—just a tragic misinterpretation.

Responding with urgency, a police team led by Senior Inspector Anamika Mirzapure from Dhantoli Police Station rushed to the spot. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman, who had arrived earlier that day to visit her relatives in the area, had stepped out alone and wandered into the garden. Officials believe she may have voluntarily removed some of her clothes due to a psychological condition.

Statements were taken from the woman and her family members, and after a detailed inquiry, police confirmed that no sexual assault or criminal act had taken place.

“Public vigilance is important, but so is restraint,” said Inspector Mirzapure. “We urge citizens to avoid spreading unverified claims, especially in sensitive matters.”

While the incident caused a brief stir, the situation was resolved without escalation. Dhantoli Police emphasized the need for responsible reporting and discouraged knee-jerk assumptions that could trigger unnecessary fear or stigmatize vulnerable individuals.

As calm returned to the neighbourhood, the incident served as a reminder: in a world quick to react, sometimes the truth is quieter—and more compassionate—than the rumours that surround it.

In a first for Nagpur district, the Besa-Pipla Nagar Panchayat has launched a ‘smart’ bus stop that promises relief, convenience, and a glimpse into the future of public transport infrastructure.

Equipped with ceiling fans, shaded seating, mobile charging points, and advertising panels for revenue generation, the Beltarodi bus stop is the region’s most commuter-friendly shelter yet. Plans are afoot to add a water cooler too.

“This is the first of its kind in Nagpur district,” said Bharat Nandanwar, CEO of the Besa-Pipla civic body. “The project cost between Rs 6.5 lakh and Rs 7 lakh. We’re already planning similar facilities at other major points under our jurisdiction.”

The innovation comes at a time when most bus stops in the city are barely functional, offering little protection from weather and zero amenities for daily travellers. In contrast, Beltarodi’s smart stop offers comfort — and connectivity.

“Charging points are a necessity now, especially for students and working professionals,” Nandanwar added. “We’ve also created space for advertisements, which will help generate revenue for maintenance.”

The new-age stop is already earning praise from the public.

“I take the bus daily and have never seen a facility like this in Nagpur,” said a regular commuter. “The fan and charging point are such thoughtful additions. These kinds of stops should be built everywhere.”

A college student echoed the sentiment, highlighting the importance of staying connected: “My phone often runs out of battery during long commutes. Having a charging point here means I can contact my family if needed. It’s a huge relief.”

Following Beltarodi, smart bus stops at Revati Nagar and Besa Square are in progress, while work at Ghogli is pending due to PWD approvals.

As Nagpur’s urban sprawl continues, the Beltarodi bus stop stands as a small but powerful example of commuter-first thinking — showing that even modest interventions can bring meaningful change.

  • Any old policy documents (if available)

An executive will help you retrieve policy details or issue a duplicate copy if needed.

Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the Cyber Police have uncovered a link between cyber fraud operations and money transactions through Nepal. A woman, identified as Sana Shahid Khan, a resident of Maya Nagar, Indora, was arrested for her involvement in a fake call centre racket.

The investigation revealed that fraudsters lured people across India, including Nepal and Bihar, by promising high returns on investments. Victims were contacted through call centres and the fraudulently obtained money was deposited into Sana’s bank account. In one case, a fraud of Rs 50 lakh was reported last month. While probing the case, police found that a total of Rs 1.5 crore in various frauds had been funneled through Sana’s account. She allegedly travelled to Nepal via Bihar, handed over the money to the prime accused after deducting her commission and returned to Nagpur.

Police said this is not an isolated incident, as other gang members are also suspected to have travelled to Nepal to deliver similar payments. After her police custody ended, Sana was sent to jail under judicial custody. A Cyber Police team has now been stationed in Bihar to trace the masterminds behind the cross-border scam. The police believe more arrests are likely in the coming days.
