This was barely after 24-hours when Nagpur Police initiated dialogue with sex workers in notorious Ganga-Jamuna area for their rehabilitation on Saturday.

Nagpur: Congress leader Ashish Deshmukh has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, demanding dismissal of party minister Sunil Kedar from the State Cabinet.

Alleging that Kedar got his lawyer-friend — head of the State Congress legal cell — appointed as the government pleader in a case in which he was an accused, Deshmukh, in his letter dated August 22, said it amounted to “conflict of interest” and should not be allowed to fight the case. The letter added that this was done “with an aim to not plead his case strongly to make it possible for him to get acquitted”.

Deshmukh demanded cancellation of the lawyer’s appointment as government pleader in the case and dismissal of Kedar from the State Cabinet.

He said Congress leader Kedar and 10 others were accused in a case of alleged irregularities of about ₹150 crore in the Nagpur District Central Cooperative Bank in 2002.

The hearing in the case was now in the last stage and Kedar, citing various reasons in court, was delaying the case since 19 years, claimed Deshmukh, whose party currently shares power with the Shiv Sena and NCP in the State.

Nagpur: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed first charge sheet in connection with the former Maharashtra Home Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Anil Deskhmukh bribery case.

An ED official related to probe told IANS, “A charge sheet has been filed in the case and Deshmukh’s personal secretary Sanjeev Palande and personal assistant Kundan Shinde have been named in it.”

According to ED officials, the 4,500 page charge sheet was filed before a Special PMLA court here.

The ED had arrested Palande and Shinde after carrying out searches against them and the NCP leader in Mumbai and Nagpur.

Deshmukh and his son Hrishikesh Deshmukh had skipped the ED’s summons on several occasions. The ED registered a case of money laundering on the basis of the FIR registered by the CBI.

Deshmukh has been accused of extortion from a bunch of Mumbai orchestra bars and of money laundering.

It has been alleged that Rs 4.7 crore was collected as “extortion” from the orchestra bars by the now-dismissed Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze allegedly on Deshmukh’s instructions. Later, this amount was transferred to Deshmukh’s Nagpur-based educational trust by his son, Hrishikesh.

According to the allegation, the transaction was routed via two hawala operators and was showed as a “donation”.

The 71-year-old NCP leader is the president of the trust and his two sons, Salil and Hrishikesh, are trustees.

On May 11, a case was registered against the former minister and on June 25, the ED raided Deshmukh’s residences in Nagpur, Mumbai and three other places.

In April, the CBI had conducted raids at four premises of Deshmukh after registering an FIR against him in connection with the case.

Param Bir Singh, former Commissioner of Mumbai Police, in his letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, had alleged that Deshmukh had indulged in “malpractices” and asked Waze to collect Rs 100 crore every month.

Zero Mile Freedom Park metro station has unique floating slab to reduce vibrations

Nagpur: The recently inaugurated Zero Mile Freedom Park metro station is a multi-storied commercial building. The building has multi-level underground parking with a concourse level below the platform level. There is also planning for hotel rooms and luxury guest rooms at various floor levels above platform level.

As the track structure is coupled with the building structure at Zero Mile station, vibrations generated from the train wheels rolling on the tracks will be directly transmitted to the building structure.

The vibration of floors and walls may cause perceptible vibration, rattling of items such as windows etc or a rumble noise causing disturbance and annoyance to the occupants. In extreme cases, the vibration can also cause damage to building.

Therefore, it was necessary to assess the expected vibration level in the building during operation of regular metro train services. Accordingly Maha Metro engaged a renowned consultant in this field for assesment of vibration levels.

The analysis report submitted by the consultant revealed that the expected vibration level during train operation may be much higher than the prescribed threshold values. The consultant also prescribed various options for mitigation i.e reduction of vibration levels in the building. Out of the various available options, the consultant recommended that provision of the floating track slab on steel spring isolators as the best solution for mitigation of high vibration levels.

Accordingly, the track structure at Zero Mile station has been specially designed as a floating track slab (30 mm above station slab) supported on 176 chrome alloyed steel spring system isolators. This type of floating track slab on viaduct has been executed for the first time in Indian metro railway system.

The track slab of 135 m length, covering full length of the platform on both up and down lines has been concreted in single pour on each track slab without any expansion joint. The unique track slab mass spring system (MSS) is a maintenance free system and having a design life of 75 years.

Nagpur: Following a snowballing controversy over Union Minister Narayan Rane’s comment on slapping Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for his “ignorance of the year of India’s Independence”, the workers of Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena and the opposition Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) clashed on the streets in Mumbai on Tuesday. This act was followed by series of protest across the state with similar scenarios also seen in Vidarbha. Thus, in bid to avert any untoward incident in the Second Capital of the State, Nagpur Police deployed heavy bandobast at BJP Office in the city.

Earlier in the morning, a group of Sena workers were earlier seen throwing stones at the BJP office in Nagpur.

Narayan Rane’s comments have sparked protests by outraged Shiv Sena leaders who also faces an arrest warrant after a case filed by Sena workers.

On Monday, a fight broke out as Sena members marching towards Narayan Rane’s home in Mumbai, carrying flags and shouting slogans, were stopped by BJP workers. Scores of policemen tried to break up the fight outside Rane’s Juhu house and even used force to separate rival workers. Stones were also thrown between two groups. Sena workers sat on the road, blocking traffic.

An FIR was filed in Nashik and the police have put out a warrant for the Union Minister’s arrest. Some reports said a police team has left for Chiplun, where Rane is believed to be at present.

In Amravati too, Sena workers tried to lit BJP offices but the incident was averted following police action.
