Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

A delegation of Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT) lead by president Dipen Agrawal met Dr. Nitin Raut, the cabinet minister for energy and power in Government of Maharashtra, and guardian minister for Nagpur district and congratulated him and his team by presenting a bouquet for the timely steps taken by the government to contain second wave of covid-19 virus in the State, particularly the Nagpur District.

Dipen Agrawal informed Dr. Raut about the problems faced by the trading community in the district due to the stricter restrictions imposed in the District despite Nagpur City & Rural area qualifying under Level-1 on weekly data analysis on 3rd June, 2021 and 10th June, 2021. Therefore, on behalf of the trading community in the Nagpur District, the delegation from CAMIT submitted a memorandum to Dr. Raut, requesting that the well-thought-out Government of Maharashtra order dated 4th June, 2021 imposing the five-level restrictions be implement in its true spirit.

It was further brought to the notice of Dr. Raut that the seven-day average positivity rate for Nagpur District has been on the declining trend. Moreover, even if the District is effected by the third wave of the Corona Virus or if there is a surge in the positive cases, the 4th June, 2021 order contains sufficient inbuild checks and balances that would lead to proportional change in the lock/unlock of economic activities in the District. Further, it was also proposed that even though the order provides for weekly review, there is no bar on mid-week review for revision in the restrictions if any contingency is noticed.

Sanjay K. Agrawal brought in the notice of Guardian Minister that the Business Processes Outsource (BPO), Data Centres, Cloud Services and like units due to time restrictions are finding themselves unable to provide services to their clients based in European and other Western countries. He requested to carve an exemption for such units and allow them late night operations.

In response to the same, Dr. Raut expressed his remorse towards the difficulties faced by the trading and business community due to restrictions on operating timing to 5pm. However, he explained that such restrictions were brought in place due to the scientific studies suggesting that a new variant was recognised in the country. Nonetheless, he committed to relax the timings till 7 pm in the coming days, however on insistence of delegation he assured to consider permitting operation up to 8pm in the district, subject to the positivity rate in the district remaining low. Responding to BPO / Data Centre issue he assured to look into the matter and take appropriate decision.

Agrawal expressed his gratitude towards Dr. Nitin Raut for the patient hearing and assurance to take sympathetic decision in the matter. The discussion took place in the presence of Collector Nagpur, Ravindra Thakre and Municipal Commissioner NMC, Radhakrishnan B and the delegation consisted of Sanjay K. Agrawal, Ashok Ahuja, Ashok Sanghvi, Dinesh Sarda, Dhiraj Maloo& Gopal Bhatia informs a press release issued by Sanjay K. Agrawal, Vice President of CAMIT.

The civic body offers 10% rebate to those who pay their dues before June 30

Nagpur: In a positive development, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has mopped up Rs 19.5 Property Tax revenue in April and May this year as against Rs 9.22 crore revenue generated in 2020-21. The civic body saw 112 percent rise in Property Tax earnings this year.

In a bid to attract more citizens to pay their Property Tax early, the NMC has offered a 10 percent rebate in the total tax amount to those who pay their dues before June 30.

The Chairman of Standing Committee Prakash Bhoyar, during a press briefing said that in the first two-and-half-months the tax collection has seen quite a significant jump. From April to June 14, this year, the Property Tax has brought in Rs 19.50 crore to the civic body’s kitty and during the same period last year the collection was meager Rs 9.22crore.

Milind Meshram, Deputy Commissioner Revenue), NMC, who was also present during the briefing by Bhoyar, said the increase is very significant. To a question, he said about 29,000 tax payers paid the entire year’s tax this year in one go while 9,000 have cleared their past dues.

Meshram further said, the scheme of 10 percent rebate to taxpayers as proposed by the Standing Committee will be provided with retrospective effect by NMC since the approval came to the Tax Department in the first week of June while people had paid their dues in the month of April or May itself. There is an option for taxpayers as far as rebate is concerned, for those who have paid this year’s dues, either they can get a refund of excess amount or the same can be carried forward in next year’s tax demand in which the extra payment would be adjusted.

Bhoyar said, the rebate is however applicable only to civic taxes and not on Government tax that NMC collects from citizens. NMC faced some difficulties as during the month of April the GST compensation from the State Government was just Rs. 50 crore while during the last two months it is steady at Rs. 108 crore. “We have taken up the issue of shortfall with the State Government through Devendra Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition”, he said.

A meeting of the Standing Committee was held on Tuesday wherein a proposal of Rs.1.99 crore for filling up potholes by Road Patcher Machine was approved. Since many tar roads in the city have developed potholes the proposal was approved to ensure that citizens do not face difficulties.

Aapli Bus

Nagpur: The whimsical Aapli Bus service being run by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is leaving the commuters in the lurch. Hundreds of commuters are totally frustrated by the lack of professionalism by the NMC’s Transport Department. They have stopped running several trips on various routes putting the daily travellers in a fix.

Following easing of Covid-19 restrictions, the commuters are facing severe hardships in reaching their destinations due to poor frequency of buses. The commuters have to wait for hours for a ride as NMC’s Transport Department is running only 126 buses on various routes.

Earlier, on Besa-Sitabuldi-Gorewada route, the Aapli Bus was plying every half an hour. However, after easing the Covid curbs, the NMC is running fewer trips on the route. At present, there is no bus service on this route after 9 am till 1 pm. Previously, there were trips at 9.30 am, 10 am, 10.30 am, 11 am from Besa. But the whimsical NMC babus have stopped the operation of Besa-Sitabuldi-Gorewada bus service for reasons not known. The above timings are peak hours with several passengers going for work.

Some passengers, lamenting the poor Aapli Bus service, said that the waiting time for a trip has increased a lot. Sometimes there is no trip at all at the particular time. Many commuters need to change buses at Sitabuldi for going to different destinations. But their schedule goes haywire due to no trip from Besa from 9 am to 11 am.

Same is the trouble for commuters on other routes. They have to wait for an hour or two for a bus. Complaints from several commuters fell on deaf ears of NMC’s Transport Department officials. They should increase the number of buses as the passenger volume has gone up after unlocking, the commuters demanded.

Similarly, a 59-year old Arvind Ramrao Ingle, resident of Navapura, near Hanuman Temple, Kotwali, was tricked and robbed of 78,000 by an unidentified man who used Arvind’s ATM card for fraudulent transactions on June 15.

Arvind Ingle had gone to an ATM of SBI at Nandanvan Cement Road around 10.15 am. However, he was facing difficulty in withdrawing money from the ATM. A miscreant, aged about 30, on the pretext of helping Arvind, took his ATM card and pretended to withdraw money after procuring PIN from Arvind. During the same time, the trickster diverted Arvind’s attention and swapped his (Arvind’s) ATM card with his own fake card. With Arvind’s ATM card and PIN, the unidentified criminal went on shopping at Big Bazaar and cheated Arvind to the tune of Rs 78,000.

Kotwali Woman PSI Tarade, acting on Arvind’s complaint, registered a case against the unidentified trickster under Sections 406, 420 of the IPC and searching for him.
