– Water test not done for many years, Many wells filled with garbage, many were extinguished, Neglect of Corporation and Pollution Control Board

Nagpur. Every year in summer, the problem of water remains standing in its mouth. In many places water has to be supplied by tankers. Work is underway on a 24×7 scheme in the city. On the other hand, the splendor of the city and the water requirements of the city, hundreds of wells are shedding tears on their condition today. As per the records of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, there are total 854 public wells in the city. The condition of this well is such that none of the well water is potable. Such a terrible condition is of the city today.

Expressing concern over the situation, Zero Mile Foundation member and water friend Dr. Pravin Dabli has demanded that the Municipal Administration and Pollution Control Board should be aware of the condition of the wells and make them drinkable by reviving them.

Dr Pravin Dabli told that there are wells in the city, but the water is not potable. There are total 10 zones in the city. In which there are public wells in every zone. 83 in Laxminagar zone, 91 in Dharampeth zone, 54 in Hanumannagar zone, 70 in Dhantoli zone, 85 in Nehrunagar zone, 154 in Gandhibagh zone, 94 in Satranjipura zone, 74 in Lakarganj zone, 104 in Asinagar zone and 45 in Mangalwari zone There is a well. Including all the 10 zones, 854 public wells have been reported in Nagpur city. It does not provide information about private wells located in homes.

The water of none of the above wells is potable.
If you imagine that if there is a shortage of water sometime in the future, then where will we have water. Then we will start digging wells when we are thirsty.

According to the information received, these 854 wells were not cleaned and maintained for many years. Some of these 854 wells use the water from the wells to meet their external needs. Dr. Dubli told that it is necessary to test the water of all these wells. The maintenance of these wells is with the Municipal Administration.

According to the information, there is plenty of water in most of these wells, which is being used somewhere and nowhere else. The quality of water in all the wells has deteriorated due to lack of care. The people of the city have to bear the brunt of this. Who is responsible for the wells reaching this condition? This is a matter of contemplation.

When information was taken from the local citizens, they told that the water of these wells has not been tested for many years. That’s why he doesn’t drink water. Due to the problem of water in many low-lying settlements, they are forced to drink water from these wells. People who compulsively drink well water are falling prey to diseases like jaundice, gastro. Dr. Pravin Dabli has made a demand to the Municipal Commissioner, Mayor to make the water potable by checking the water of the wells, cleaning the wells and reviving the wells.

There are 333 pumps on wells
About 333 motor pumps are installed on many of the 854 wells in the city. Out of which many are lying closed and many pumps have been stolen. Through these pumps, about 24623 households were informed about the benefit of water. At the same time, 82065 people have been told to benefit from it. The electricity bill of lakhs of rupees of all these pumps is also paid by the Municipality itself. The pump has solved the problem of water to some extent in some areas. The maximum number of pumps is in the Gandhibagh zone. Where 50,000 people are being claimed to benefit from it.

Mesh on all wells
Dr. Dabli told that in many wells, irresponsible people put garbage in the wells due to ignorance. Which also spoils the water. The water of the well can be saved from getting dirty by putting a net on the well. Every two years, the cleanliness of the well and the quality of water should be checked by the administration. In slums and low-lying settlements, people also wash utensils at the well, clothes are also washed, people themselves take bath, they also bathe cows and buffaloes. All this dirt goes inside.

Similarly water is also drawn from wells which are not very deep and are left open. Dust, soil, leaves, bird droppings, etc., fall into it along with the wind and pollute the water. Hand pump facilities have been provided in some villages, but the top of it is covered with mud and garbage. From there the dirty water slowly seeps into the ground and spoils the clean water. Then that water is no longer potable.

To be honest, common people do not even know about it. The pathogens that are in the dirt are not visible to the eye, they are visible only with a microscope. Due to this dirt and the bacteria of its disease, many diseases occur such as diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, typhoid, jaundice, naru and many other intestinal diseases are known as water-borne diseases. Water-borne diseases, which are called water-borne diseases, spread due to contamination of water. which affects the entire population of the region.

The water of private wells is also getting contaminated
In many areas, the water of private wells is also getting contaminated due to the gadder pipeline. Due to which diseases are increasing. Many wells and borings had to be closed. The lack of proper cleaning of the drains of the city is also the reason for water contamination. The organic matter and excreta of the cities are being dumped in the rivers and streams flowing through the city, due to which the balance of the environment is deteriorating. This sewage brings with it microbial pathogens, due to which diseases spread.

Prevention of polluted water
To prevent water-borne diseases, people should get their water tested from time to time. If the water is polluted, get it cleaned. The problem of contaminated water is not limited to big cities only, but a large part of the country is being affected by it. Clean drinking water is the first need of human. Whereas now it is getting corrupted.

District Collector warns of strict action against vendors selling stamp papers at higher price

Nagpur: As the Second Capital was unlocked and restrictions eased following substantial decline on Covid-19 cases, Nagpurians thronged District Collector’s office premises for purchasing stamp papers required for property transactions and other important works. People in thousands mobbed the counters of vendors selling the stamp papers mocking the social distancing norms.

Following the lockdowns due to pandemic, the business of stamp paper vendors had come to a standstill. But after the unlocking, people started carrying out property transactions such as sale deed, purchase agreements, for various certificates and other several works. Taking advantage of the serpentines queues of impatient people, some vendors indulged in black-markeing of the vital stamp papers and thus fleeced the people.

Vendors black-marketing stamp papers:
Faced with several complaints of black-marketing of stamp papers as well as stamp vendors selling stamp papers at higher prices, the District Collector Ravindra Thakare warned the stamp paper vendors of stringent action if they indulged in fleecing the needy people by selling the stamp papers at higher price. Thakare had called a meeting of stamp vendors at Bachat Bhavan in Collectorate premises on Thursday. Sudhir Nandanwar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sadar); R B Muley, Joint District Registrar and District Collector of Stamps; Arvind Ghode, Senior Treasury Officer; Rekha Baware, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Special Branch), Santosh Bakal, Senior Police Inspector, attended the meeting.

At present, Nagpur district has 55 stamp vendors. They can sell stamp papers up to Rs 30,000. Other stamp papers are sold online through e-challan. Small-time vendors can sell stamp papers of denomination Rs 100 and Rs 500. However, there were complaints in the past few days that the vendors were selling stamp papers at higher than prescribed prices. The Collector firmly directed the vendors to sell stamp papers at the prescribed prices and as per the rules. In case of complaints regarding sale at higher price or other irregularities, the license of the vendor concerned will be cancelled and stringent police action will be taken, warned Thakare.

The Union Minister laid emphasis on road quality and safety measures to bring down number of mishaps

While going to attend a function in Nagpur Paradi area Nitin Gadkari got down from his vehicle and helped police in clearing the traffic

Nagpur: The Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday said that with people’s cooperation the number of road accidents could be reduced significantly in India that sees over 5 lakh mishaps on roads and death of 1.50 lakh people every year.

Addressing a virtual event organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Gadkari said, “Around 1.5 lakh persons die due to road accidents (every year)… My internal target is before 2024, we will reduce deaths and accidents by 50 per cent.”

The Minister assured that road accident cases in India will go down by about 50 per cent in the next three years. He has set the target for his Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to reduce the number of road accidents before 2024 by improving the quality of roads as well as safety measures. Gadkari’s remarks come months after he said that he hopes reduction in deaths in road accidents to go down by 50% before 2025. He had also said that if “we keep waiting till 2030, then at least 6-7 lakh people will die more due to road accidents”.

Currently, a little over 400 people die every day in India due to road accidents. India also records around 1.5 lakh deaths in five lakh road mishaps annually.

The Union Minister laid emphasis on road quality and safety measures on Indian roads to bring down the figures. “My ministry is actively working to reduce black spots from Indian roads. Around 50 per cent of road accidents are due to road engineering problems. My Ministry is striving hard to reduce road accident deaths by restructuring and strengthening four ‘Es’ of road safety — Engineering (including road and automobile engineering), Economy, Enforcement and Education.

Gadkari also said that insurance companies need to cooperate more with respect to road safety activities to help the Ministry to bring down casualties in road crashes. “Insurance companies are direct beneficiaries of a saved life. Hence, they can extend their cooperation for various road safety activities… but the cooperation from the insurance companies is very negligible, and cooperation from government insurance companies is zero,” he said.

Gadkari said that there is a shortage of 22 lakh drivers across the country. This has prompted the government to plan 2,000 driving schools, especially in backward districts. He congratulated the corporate body on the announcement of the Road Safety consortium ‘Safar’, based on the safe system approach and release of a white paper on road safety for the corporate world.

Coal pilfering thrives in connivance with WCL bosses, transporters!!

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The decades old disgusting act of coal theft from WCL mines continues to hog headlines. Approximately, 10% of total coal mined in Western Coalfields Limited mines is being pilfered by coal mafia allegedly in connivance with WCL officials and transporters. This dubious act has been denting the revenue of the government in crores.

In the instant case, according to sources, a coal laden truck left for going to Gondgaon Coal Washery from Indar Mine was emptied slyly at Pardi area of Nagpur around 9.15 pm on Thursday. The truck was seized near Dumri Anna turning. However, the truck driver and the owner managed to escape. Following the compalint of authorised contractor Lodha Enterprises, Kanhan police took the truck in their possession for further course of action. But surprisingly, the AGM Abhas Singh, Kamptee Sub-Area Manager Vinay Kumar Singh, Coal Washery GM Deshmukh and In-Charge Juber Sheikh chose to turn a blind eye towards the incident. Takinh a serious view of this apathy, an INTUC leader Naresh Barve has decided to meet WCL CMD and raise the matter before him.

First episode:
According to sources, coal is mined in Indar OCM, Gondgaon OCM, Kamptee OCM, Bhanegaon OCM, and Singori OCM in Saoner and Umred mines coming under WCL’s Nagpur Region. As per norms, the fresh and steam coal mined in Indar OCM, Gondgaon OCM, Kamptee OCM, Bhanegaon OCM, and Singori OCM, the transports should take the coal to Gondgaon Coal Washery or Dumri Coal Siding. But shockingly, 10% of the transported coal is being emptied at vacant plots of coal mafia in Pardi. This dubious business of pilferation of coal is being carried out allegedly in connivance with WCL officials and transporters, sources claimed.

Sources further said that as per rules, all the trucks transporting coal are equipped with GPRS system by WCL. But after loading coal, the transporters tamper with the GPRS system for taking the coal to Pardi in Nagpur. The GPRS system is removed from trucks and then put on two-wheelers with the motive to mislead the monitors.

In the instant case, the truck (MH-40/BL 3419) that left Indar OCM for Gondgaon Coal Washery reached Pardi by passing Kanhan Toll Post around 6.19 pm on Thursday. The coal laden truck was emptied at a plot allegedly belonging to one Chetan. And to cover up the illegal act, waste (poor quality coal and stones) was loaded in the truck and a seal was put at a petrol pump on Kamptee 4-lane road. However, some alert people, who were trailing the truck from WCL’s Indar mine itself, caught the truck Dumri Anna turning. The truck driver and owner, however, managed to escape. The matter was reported to Kanahn police in a written complaint by Lodha Enterprises and the truck was seized by the cops around 11 am on Friday.

Second episode:
Indulging in one trick or another, coal is stolen from the WCL mines itself. Sources said that coal mined in Indar and Gondgaon mines and laden in 2-3 trucks is thrown down the hills. Later, labourers are deployed for taking the coal to tals of Bhujang Pantaone, Krishna Yadav who sell it to retail customers. This dubious business is going on for years allegedly in connivance with the security guard of Gondgaon OCM Santosh Yadav and Kamptee Sub-Area’s Pal, sources said.

Third episode:
The coal mined at WCL mines is supplied to Mahagenco for its power plants at Koradi and Khaparkheda. However, in between the two power plants, 10% of coal is pilfered midway and in its place, poor quality of coal is sent to Mahagenco.

The theft of coal in massive quantities continues unabated in WCL mines. This dubious act has been denting the revenue of the government in crores. The coal smuggling business has been thriving since long, of course, in connivance with WCL’s Security Officers. At the same time, the concerned Area Managers and Vigilance Officers sitting in Headquarters turn a blind eye towards the illegal act, for obvious reasons.

Coal pilfering thrives in connivance with WCL bosses, transporters!!
