Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Acting upon the series of complaints against a slew of hospitals heavily charging patients in the name of Covid treatment, Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Additional Commissioner Jalaj Sharma has issued notices to 13 hospitals including Seven Star Hospital, Kingsway Hospital, Wockhardt, Viveka Hospital, Arneja Hospital among others.

The complaints of excessive billings have reached to city’s former Mayor and senior BJP leader Sandip Joshi who has launched a crusade against such erring hospitals in order to relieve the people already reeling under financial burden. On Tuesday, Joshi had met Additional Commissioner Jalaj Sharma at the latter’s office and demanded action against these hospitals while handing over the complaints he received from various sections of people. Joshi had also warned of agitation if no action would be taken in the concerned matter.

When Nagpur Today contacted NMC Additional Commissioner Jalaj Sharma, his office informed that notices were served to as many as 13 hospitals after Sandip Joshi met him and raised the issue.

“We have sought bill and treatment details from the erring hospitals while our auditor is also working on the same. We will seek strict action against the hospitals found involved in the malpractices, and levy fine on them,” Sharma told Nagpur Today.

It is learnt that one of these hospitals have been accused of charging as much as 3.5 lakhs just for a week’s treatment without ICU, ventilator or Remdesivir.

“We were not even informed about the cost and were made to sign a document just a day before discharge under the assurance that our bill would not exceed Rs 75,000. I was told that our deposit amount of Rs 50000 was covered and the extra expense of two days would be charged. But on the seventh day when my wife was discharged we were handed over the bill of Rs 3.5 lakh. We were also threatened that if we would not pay the bill the charge would keep on increasing multifold. We have been cheated as my wife was admitted in a non-ICU room without ventilator support. Oxygen support was also given just for a day. We were misguided and cheated and we look forward to get our money back which we had arranged after taking loan from others,” said Rajendra Shivhare, one of the patients’ kin who were forced to bear the multifold cost.

As per the information received from NMC, the list of hospitals who have been issued notices include,

1. Kingsway Hospital, near Kasturchand Park

2. Wockhardt Hospital, Shankar Nagar and Gandhi Nagar

3. Seven Star Hospital, Jagnade Square, Nandanvan

MPCC Secretary Vishal Muttemwar writes to NMC Chief suggesting modifications in Covid jab process to curb inconvenience for people

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: In view of nuisance faced by Nagpurians during the mass vaccination drive, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Secretary Vishal Muttemwar has written to Nagpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Radhakrishnan B, suggesting some measures to curb inconvenience for the people.

Muttemwar suggested that rather than calling people to vaccination centres; the vaccination drives should be planned near their vicinity. NGOs and volunteers with medical guidance, should be used for the provisions of community vaccination by organising vaccination camps at various Layouts, Apartments, Societies etc to amplify the vaccination process.

Acknowledging shortage of professional healthcare workers, the MPCC Secretary brought the use of final year medical and nursing students for vaccination process to cognisance of NMC Chief.

Stating that middle aged people along with senior citizens face severe inconvenience at centres, Muttemwar expressed the need of doorstep vaccinations along with spot enrolment facilities as significant section of underprivileged society don’t have any smartphones.

“Middle aged people and senior citizens are more prone to Covid-19. While the vaccination centres requires to stand in long queue, the already exhausting process gets much tough for them with the rise in mercury. During all this process, one can’t rule out the possibility of someone Covid positive present there and sharing contact with others. Hence, there’s a need of special vaccination drive to reach the doorstep of senior citizens and middle aged people. said Vishal Muttemwar.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: While India battles acute oxygen shortage, Maharashtra is certainly worst effected. To fill the paucity of oxygen crises, Maharashtra has been seeking oxygen supply from nearby states. However, in the process a ghastly incident came to fore. A plot of smuggling oxygen supply of Maharashtra to Gujarat was revealed on Friday.

Four tankers carrying medical oxygen were coming to Nagpur from Bhilai. However, it came to fore that these tankers were secretly headed towards Gujarat.

On May 5, two oxygen tankers were intercepted at Deori border in Gondia district, while on May 6, two tankers were intercepted between Aurangabad and Jalna. Now all the four oxygen tankers have been seized by the Nagpur Administration.

Along with Maharashtra, Gujarat has also been hit hard by the second wave of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19). This has led to a shortage of medical oxygen there as well. However, the question arises as on whose directions the oxygen allotted to Maharashtra was smuggled to Gujarat.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

New Delhi: A CISF jawan who spotted the falling rear landing gear of an air ambulance after it took off from Nagpur airport has been decorated with a cash reward and a commendation of the force chief, the civil aviation security force said on Friday.

The plane carrying a total of five people, including a patient and a doctor, had belly-landed under full emergency protocols at the Mumbai airport Thursday night without any fatal casualties.

The air ambulance–a chartered flight with registration VT-JIL–had taken off from Bagdogra for Mumbai, but had a stopover at Nagpur for re-fuelling, it said.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said in a statement that its head constable Ravi Kant Avala deployed at a watch tower near the runway of the Nagpur airport noticed around 5:50 pm that the “rear wheel of the aircraft fell off in the air”.

“The jawan immediately informed the matter over telephone to the Nagpur SOCC (security operational control centre) which in turn reported the matter to the air traffic control (ATC).

“The Nagpur ATC quickly informed the pilot of the aircraft and arrangements were made at Mumbai airport for safe landing,” the force said.

The plane had landed on a foamed runway at the Mumbai airport at about 9:09 pm Thursday and rescue authorities evacuated those onboard.

“Had head constable Avala not shown alertness, a major tragedy could have occurred during the landing of the aircraft. The keen observation and mindful action taken by the CISF personnel averted a major accident and saved the lives of the pilots and passengers,” the statement said.

CISF Director General S K Jaiswal has announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000, the top force honour of a DG commendation disc and certificate for Avala, it added.

The CISF is a central armed police force that is designated as the national civil aviation security force guarding 64 air terminals of the country at present.
