Should I Bet on the Mumbai Indians to Win the IPL21?

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

The defending champions are back to winning ways with two back to back wins in the Delhi leg of IPL 2021. Pollard and Pandya’s return to form in the middle-order could not have come at a better time. With 7 more matches to go and 5 of them to be played on batting-friendly venues, MI big-hitters will be hungry for more runs, bigger sixes, and record-breaking totals.

The road to 5th IPL title for MI is clear

Following the conclusion of Delhi-leg, Mumbai Indians will move to Bengaluru to play 3 matches at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. This venue has been a batting heaven for a long time. In spite of missing their homeground, Mumbai Indians are set to enjoy similar batting-friendly conditions for the remaining half of their league stage. As a result, they are back in the top 2 teams who will win the IPL in the outright winner market. In the first week of the season, Mumbai Indians had slipped to number 3 with even higher odds in the race to the title. 3 losses from 5 matches at Chepauk had seriously affected their odds of winning IPL 2021.

Who will be the spoilsport in MI’s hat-trick?

Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals are two strongest teams of IPL 2021. From a strategic point of view, Delhi Capitals will be better placed to perform well at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is because MI has no matches scheduled at this venue whereas DC will be playing 4 of their league-stage matches here. Similarly, if CSK makes it to the play-offs, it will be their first-ever match in Ahmedabad.

Delhi Capitals will be the biggest competitor for MI on the way to their 3rd consecutive IPL title. While Rishabh Pant is a very young skipper and is bound to make mistakes as a leader, DC is one of the few teams in IPL that is not dependent on individuals. Chennai Super Kings, the best performing team so far in the season, has a star-studded lineup. On their best day, players like Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja can take the game away from any opposition.

Mumbai Indians – Most dependable team among bettors

Mumbai Indians are more comfortable while chasing totals. They have a deep batting lineup with the likes of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard as match-finishers. Suryakumar Yadav at number 3 has emerged as a dependable match finisher in recent years. Over the years, Pollard has consistently delivered in big run-chases like the one against CSK this year. There has been little to no adjustments in the core group of Mumbai Indians for the last few seasons.

In addition to the consistency, this core group of players also brings in a lot of experience. As a result, in a tense match that goes down to the wire, MI players are more likely to hold their nerves and see their team through. This makes Mumbai Indians one of the most backed teams among the bettors as the confidence in their winning ability increases with every season.

New rules for Covid testing by government

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

The central government has revised the country’s coronavirus-testing rules to reduce pressure on diagnostic labs amid a spurt of coronavirus cases. “Healthy” inter-state travellers and Covid patients being discharged from hospitals after recovery must not be tested, it said.

The centre said the over 2,500 labs in the country are working under tremendous pressure because of the rapidly growing caseloads.

“The need for RT-PCR test in healthy individuals undertaking inter-state domestic travel may be completely removed to reduce the load on laboratories,” the centre said in a circular to states.

“No testing is required for COVID-19-recovered individuals at the time of hospital discharge,” it added.

The centre said people who tested positive once – either by rapid tests or the gold standard RT-PCR – must not be tested again.

Non-essential travel of people with Covid symptoms should be avoided to reduce the risk of infection, the government added.

All asymptomatic individuals undertaking essential travel must follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.

India has been reporting over 3 lakh daily coronavirus cases for over a week. On Tuesday, the country’s single-day Covid numbers were 3.35 lakh cases and 3,449 deaths in 24 hours.

No need for RT-PCR test in healthy individuals for inter-state domestic travel

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

NEW DELHI: The Indian Council for Medical Research in its advisory for Covid-19 testing during the second wave of the pandemic has recommended that the need for RT-PCR test in healthy individuals undertaking inter-state domestic travel may be completely removed to reduce the load on laboratories.

The ICMR also recommends that the vaccination status of all individuals tested for Covid-19 must be entered into the Sample Referral Form (SRF) in the RT-PCR app both for individuals tested by RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

Explaining the need for a detailed advisory on testing for Covid-19, ICMR cites the “unprecedented upsurge of Covid-19 cases and deaths currently being witnessed across India”. The overall nationwide test positivity rate is above 20%. In this backdrop testing-tracking-tracing, isolation and home-based treatment of positive patients is the key measure to curb transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

As of today, India has a total of 2506 molecular testing laboratories including RT-PCR, TrueNat, CBNAAT and other platforms. The total daily national testing capacity is close to 15 lakh tests considering a three- shift operationalization of the existing laboratory network. “At present, the laboratories are facing challenges to meet the expected testing target due to extraordinary case load and staff getting infected with Covid-19,” it is stated.

As part of the measures to optimise RT-PCR testing, ICMR advisory makes it clear that RT-PCR test must not be repeated in any individual who has tested positive once either by RAT or RT-PCR. Also no testing is required for Covid-19 recovered individuals at the time of hospital discharge in accordance with the discharge policy of the ministry of health and family welfare. The advisory emphasises that non-essential travel and interstate travel of symptomatic individuals (Covid-19 or flu like symptoms) should be essentially avoided to reduce the risk of infection and all asymptomatic individuals undertaking essential travel must follow Covid appropriate behaviour.

It is pointed that mobile testing laboratories are now available on GeM portal and states must augment RT-PCR testing through mobile systems. “To meet the overwhelming testing demand, it will be prudent to upscale testing using Rapid Antigen Tests,” the advisory recommends. To ramp up testing through RAT it is recommended that these tests may be allowed at all available government and private healthcare facilities and dedicated RAT booths may also be set-up in cities, towns and villages to offer testing to people.

“These booths should be operational on a 24X7 basis to improve access and availability of testing,” the advisory recommends and also suggests creation of drive-through RAT testing facilities. The advisory asserts that during the current upsurge of Covid-19 cases, any individual presenting with fever with or without cough, headache, sore throat, breathlessness, body ache, recent loss of taste or smell, fatigue and diarrhea should be considered as suspect case of Covid-19 unless proven otherwise by confirmation of another etiology.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Amid the Covid-19 surge, Indians of Nagpur-origin who have settled abroad have decided to pool their resources to help their native city.

Sanjay Paithankar, a doctor and philanthropist who settled in Dubai several decades ago, has organised oxygen concentrators and cylinders worth 2.5 lakh dollars to be shipped to Nagpur over the next 15 days.

Paithankar runs a chain of clinics in Dubai that caters exclusively to people from low-income groups, mainly workers. Last year, the Dubai government bestowed upon him the rare honour of a 10-year Gold visa.

“I formed a WhatsApp group of Indians in Dubai to see how we can help our city of origin…Several people magnanimously responded and we have organised 600 oxygen concentrators and 200 cylinders, which will be together worth 2.5 lakh dollars, including shipment charges,” Paithankar said.

Of these, Paithankar has dispatched by air 150 concentrators, each of 5 litre capacity, which will arrive in Nagpur on May 8.
The Dubai Indians group is coordinating with the office of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for the same. “We spoke to Gadkari and told him that we want to contribute. He was happy and asked us to send the material to the city, where it could be distributed to the needy through proper channels,” Paithankar said.

“The remaining 500 concentrators will be shipped from China and will come to India via Hong Kong or Singapore within the next 15 days,” Paithankar added.

One of the contributors is a businessman from Nagpur, now based in Dubai, who is sending a shipment of 250 concentrators. “He wants to do it anonymously,” Paithankar said. These concentrators were procured from China, Paithankar added.

On Tuesday, Paithankar, an alumnus of Government Medical College and Nagpur (GMCH), inaugurated his 61st clinic for the low-income group in Dubai. He thanked the government for waiving GST on these supplies on Monday evening. “With GST, it would have cost us more but we were still determined to deliver it,” Paithankar said.

“I am trying to get 250 more concentrators to be sent to Nagpur,” Paithankar added.
