Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

An Ultra runner and Ultra Cyclist Rajendra Jaiswal has won the medal in Dubai Ironman 70.3 ( 1.9km swimming, 89 km Cyclingand 21.1km running)in 8.19.58 hours in odd conditions with Never Give Up attitude.

In his words….

“Dubai Ironman was scheduled on 12th March 2021. A day before the event I went for sea swimming but sight was horrible because it was choppy, waves were very high and I never had experience of swimming in such a worst condition. Idea to leave the event came to my mind but I thought let’s try it. In 33 minutes I did just 1 km and gulped the sea water two times also.

Event day I decided not to panicked, just go cool after finishing 1.5 km swimming I decided to increase the pace, when I finished it, I was breathless and in transition I vomitted, medical team advised me to take rest but after few minutes I decided to go for cycling but due to vomitting I was dehydrated and not able to cycle in speed, strong sunlight was also killing me and when I was finishing the cycling, at the last aid station I poured water on my head, volunteers also did the same but due to cold water , severe cramps started in my both quadraceps.

At the finishing point I wasn’t able to stop cycle and fell down. After few minutes I started running but due to cramps I was simply walking and after one hour I was able to complete only 5 km so my mind was saying to quit, suddenly my friend Harshad Patil met and gave rock salt tube and it really did wonder due to which I was able to walk and run. Finally I was able to complete in 8.19 hours and won the medal. Thanks God due to your blessings I didn’t quit.

My this Ironman 70.3 win I am dedicating to my Mentor, guide and trainer Dr. Amit Samarth for his world record of cycling 6000 km in Golden Quadrilaterals.

Special thanks to my swimming guru Indrajeet Khadilkar, Harsad Patil for timely help, wife Vinita, my friends Dr.Sunita Dhote and Sadhana Papadkar for their encouragement.”

Rajendra Jaiswal had also won medal in Bahrain Ironman 70.3 in December 2019.

He has a world record of non stop running 81 km with Tirangaa in hand in 12.5 hours.

A D.O.S.E. on Exam- Give yourself the best shot at acing the exam – by Raghav Podar – Chairman – Podar Education

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

With exams season coming our way and in barely two months, the students of 10th& 12th standards will be giving their board exams. In India, board exams have always been considered one of the deciding factors of a child’s future and at times it becomes scary and nerve-racking for students and their parents.

Mr. Raghav Podar, who is shouldering a legacy of a93-year-old name in education conducted a workshop session for students of 10th& 12th standard to train them on the correct mindsets to approach exams with, and how to ace their exams by doing their best.

We asked him questions on how one should go about exam preparation, and he was happy to answer the same. He said, that “this year has been a year of adversity and challenges, but those who knew how to convert challenges into opportunities were the ones who performed better. Resilience is the key character building trait here and each child should know that even if the path is hard, they have to give their best shots in every walk of life.” The questions continued and we asked.

1)How does Podar have such excellent board results year after year achieving National/state/ city ranks? What is the mantra behind it?
a.The race is long, but in the end, it’s only with yourself. The mantra is not to chase topping! If a child gets 98.6 or 98.8 – these things are anyways out of the child’s hands. You can’t study better or more for that 0.2% of marks. What is more important is to develop the right mindset towards exams and their preparation. Our focus is in ensuring we can get children to maximize their inherent talents, and excel at what they are best in.Yes, we are confident to see our students in the list of top 5% or 10% in the country, but what we are more interested in is seeing the growth of each and every child. Even a child who was scoring 50%, and we can bring him up to get 70% in his exam, he is a winner to us. Excellence is the constant endeavour of improvement.

2)What are your suggestions for students to deal with examination pressure?
a.Pressure is a normal part of life and it’s absolutely fine, a certain amount of anxiety keeps us energized, motivated, alert & focused. The learning center of the brain, thehippocampusis located right next to the emotional center of the brain, the amygdala. Science has repeatedly proven that the mental and emotional state of a person is the key factor to their learning processes.
When students get over stressed, either due to parental, peer or society pressure, the body releases the stress hormone called cortisol. Excessive cortisol reduces the ability of the brain to perform at its optimal capacity and reduces the learning capability of a student.

The most important frame of mind a child should be in before entering an exam is they should feel confident, self secure and self assured, and fill themselves with the D.O.S.E. (Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins) chemicals. It is critical students take on physical activities they enjoy between their study breaks – it can be 20 minutes of yoga, dance, aerobics, a sport, gym just to bring back the oxygen and circulation in the blood along with the D.O.S.E. of happiness, alertness and focus.

3)How should Gen Z kids keep their mood set for studying?
a.The way we all care so much about charging our mobile batteries everyday, but do we care enough about recharging our brains batteries? Some students boast that they studied non-stop for 6 hours. The truth is, if they really did study non stop for that long, their brains would’ve slipped into unproductive study during that time. Just by staring at a book in front of you doesn’t result in better brain absorption of concepts. Such children also tend to boast that they slept only 4 hours or 5 hours the night before the exam. My advise to such children is you have to ensure you get minimum 7 – 8 hours of continuous sleep at night so you wake up with your brain refreshed and recharged, so you can tackle your exam and the days challenges head on!

4)Does food also play a vital role at the time of examination, should there be a diet chart for students whose exams are near?

a. A Diet chart is not mandatory, but yes food plays an extremely vital role in ensuring our bodies and brains are active and healthy. There is a saying, “You are what you eat”. If you eat heavy food, even though it tastes good, you will feel extremely heavy, lethargic and lackadaisical for the next few hours.

Your body sends its energy to help with digesting that heavy meal, rather than for you to be active. It is often seen parents pamper their kid during the exam time, and make all their favourite foods with all the cream and oil to increase taste. Unfortunately, this is the last thing the child needs in their exam preparations. Students should eat nutritious, healthy, fresh foods and avoid heavy meals. Almonds, broccoli, avocados, green vegetables, complex carbs, protein rich diets are always better at keeping the brain charged and active.

My parting advice, in keeping with the lingo and parlance of these Gen Z kids is: KEEP CALM & ACE THE EXAM, concluded Mr. Podar.

A sessions court in Maharashtra’s Thane district has refused to grant interim bail to police officer Sachin Waze, who has been facing heat in the death case of Mansukh Hiran, noting that there was prima facie evidence and material against him.

Additional sessions Judge Shailendra Tambe, in the order that was made available on Saturday, refused to grant interim bail to Waze and said his custodial interrogation was required.

‘This court is not agreed to grant interim bail to the applicant (Waze) because there is prima facie evidence and material against the applicant. The custodial interrogation of the applicant is necessary,’ the order said.

Waze had on Friday filed an application seeking pre- arrest bail.

His lawyer A M Kalekar had sought the court to grant Waze interim protection from arrest on the ground that he was cooperating with the investigation.

Additional public prosecutor Vivek Kadu, however, opposed and argued that the probe in the case was at a crucial stage.

The court, while refusing interim bail, noted that the charges in the case include section 302 (murder), section 201 (destruction of evidence) and 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, which are serious offences.

‘This court has found that on February 27 and 28, 2021 the deceased Mansukh Hiran was along with the applicant in Mumbai,’ the court said.

It added that Hiran’s wife in her complaint has specifically taken Waze’s name.

‘The informant (Hiran’s wife) has made direct allegations against the applicant in the FIR. Hence, this court has come to the conclusion that the investigation is at initial stage,’ the court said.

It directed the investigating officer of the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), which is probing the case, to file an affidavit in reply to the plea, and posted it for hearing on March 19.

In his plea, Waze said the FIR, registered by the ATS in connection with Hiran’s death, has not named any person.

He termed the FIR as ‘baseless and without any motive’, and said it was a result of a ‘witch-hunt’.

He further claimed that at the time when Hiran went missing and was allegedly killed, he was at Dongri in south Mumbai.

Waze filed the plea under Section 438 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the Thane district sessions court.

Under this section, a person can seek bail if he or she is apprehending arrest in a case.

In his plea, Waze said the complaint lodged by Hiran’s wife is based on ‘bald suspicion and is without any basis or motive’.

‘It is trite law that a bald suspicion of the first informant regarding the commission of a crime cannot justify arrest of a citizen,’ the plea said.

Waze, accused by Hiran’s wife of involvement in her husband’s suspicious death, was shunted out of the Mumbai crime branch on Wednesday.

Waze’s application further said that there is no incriminating material against him and that he has not even been named as accused in the case.

‘Applicant (Waze) is a resident of Thane since long time. Even if he was a customer and acquaintance of the deceased, no motive can be attributed to the applicant from the bare reading of the FIR,’ it said.

The ATS, which is probing the case, has recorded Waze’s statement earlier this week.

Waze, in the plea, said he was questioned extensively by senior officers of the ATS on March 8, during which he said that he was in south Mumbai at the relevant time (when Hiran was allegedly killed).

‘On March 4 (entire day) the applicant was in South Mumbai. Thereafter during the intervening night between March 4 and 5, the applicant had been in Dongri area. The said fact is duly corroborated from the contemporaneous records such as Station Diary Entries of Dongri Police Station,’ the plea said.

‘There is a virtual witch-hunt in news and social media casting speculative aspersion regarding the applicants involvement on the basis of half-baked information without proper research, and pre-judging his guilt or innocence,’ it added.

Waze said he was cooperating with the investigation and hence should be protected from arrest.

Waze, who was crime branch’s Assistant Police Inspector, has been transferred to the Citizen Facilitation Centre (CFC) unit of Mumbai police.

Meanwhile, in his new WhatsaApp status message put on Saturday morning, Waze said ‘the time to say goodbye to the world is coming closer’.

‘3rd March 2004. Fellow officers from the CID arrested me in a false case. That arrest inconclusive till date. Sensing the history is going to repeat. My fellow officers are on to falsely trap me.

‘There’s a slight difference in the scenario. Then probably I had 17 years of hope, patience, life and service too.

‘Now I will have neither 17 years of further life nor service nor patience to live. I think the time to say goodbye to the world is coming closer,’ the status read.

On February 25, a Scorpio was found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house in south Mumbai with explosives and a threat letter inside.

Hiran, who was in possession of the SUV, had claimed that it had been stolen a week earlier, but the case got murky when he was found dead in a creek in Thane on March 5.

Hiran’s wife had claimed that her husband had given the SUV to Waze in November, which the officer returned in the first week of February.

During his questioning by the ATS, Waze has denied using the SUV that was in possession of Hiran.

Part 6: Yashodhara Nagar Police Station

Nagpur: Established on May 13, 2008, by bifurcating Jaripatka and Pachpaoli Police Station; Yashodhara Nagar Police Station is one of the most sensitive areas of the Nagpur City. To curb flourishing irregularities in the area and at the same time to instill fear among anti-social elements, Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar himself appointed Senior Police Inspector (PI) Ashok Maroti Meshram (a PSI of 2002 batch) following his astonishing tenure at Nagpur Crime Branch.

Yashodhara Nagar Police Station operates with 97 staff members along with 13 officials and comprises an area between Automotive Square, Bhilgaon, Mehandibagh Puliya, Ajri Majri, Vitibagh Puliya and Chikli Chowk. With Rajeev Gandhi Nagar, Wandevi Slums, Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Kundan Nagar, Indria Mata Nagar, Kanji House Chowk, Rani Durgawati Chowk, Ittabhatti being the sensitive points.

Speaking to Nagpur Today, PI Ashok Meshram discussed how Yashodhara Nagar cops have undertaken several preventive measures to curb irregularities in the area. Riddled with several sensitive points, even a minor dispute could lead to major tragedy here, hence constant policing is essential emphasized, PI Meshram. He further mentioned that owing to organized crackdown against the anti-social elements, not a single incident of body offence or housebreaking reported under Yashodhara Nagar Police jurisdiction.

PI Ashoek Meshram has already shared his personal mobile number – 8888471234 — with the locals and has advised them to directly call him in case of any emergency or if anyone wants to share any secret information. Their anonymity has always been protected, he assures.

Amplified preventive action against anti-social elements:
“Owing to flourishing irregularities, Yashodhara Nagar Police have launched organized crackdown against hardcore criminal, illegal liquor and gambling businesses in the area under the supervision of Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 5, Neelotpal. Compared to preventive actions in the past, we have now amplified the preventive action 10 times. In 162 preventive actions executed by Yashodhara Nagar Police within a month, the total 64 criminals have been sent to jail. This has ultimately helped in restoring peace in the area. Due to such proactive actions, not a single case of body offence or housebreaking was reported within Yashodhara Nagar Police Station,” PI Meshram said.

Crime against women will not be tolerated:
Yashodhara Nagar Police jurisdiction comprises a large number of labour and migrant workers. Due to lack of education and easy access of liquor, the rate of domestic violence is comparatively high here. Even though we do not have enough woman staff, I’ve specifically instructed woman officials of Yashodhara Nagar Police to keep vigil on women. I myself monitor such cases remotely. Crime against women will not be tolerated under Yashodhara Nagar Police, PI Ashok Meshram assured.

Significance of Local Interactions:
“Apart from Shantata Meetings, Mohalla Meetings, and Senior Citizen Meetings to hear their grievance, Yashodhara Nagar cops make sure to interact with citizens, local corporators, and business owners to acknowledge their queries. Owing to the dense population area, petty arguments often prove fetal under Yashodhara Nagar Police jurisdiction; hence I’ve advised our officials to pay special attention to the NC-offences. During any religious festivities or programme, Yashodhara Nagar Police makes sure to conduct a review meeting with the local religious leaders to ensure peaceful celebration in the vicinity. Along with routine patrolling in the area, I’ve made special provision of foot patrolling in the area, especially during the night time to have a remote glimpse. This has proved really significant in controlling crime,” said PI.

Regular checks on repeated offenders:
To curb the irregularities under Yashodhara Nagar Police Jurisdiction, the cops have prepaid the chart of notorious criminals in the locality, who are on constant watch. Besides, cops on the regular basis keep checks on repeated offenders in a bid to control nuisance and at the same time to instill fear among them. Yashodhara Nagar cops have also arrested four externed goons and 1 accused under MPDA recently, to ensure safety of the locals, informed PI Ashok Meshram. He has also warned anti-social elements of stern action if their acts by any means disrupted the harmony of the society.
