The move comes after tipplers gathered in large numbers outside liquor shops at several places in the state last week, defying the physical distancing norms to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Earlier, the Maharashtra excise department has decided to start an online token system on a pilot basis for sale of liquor in Pune city to avoid crowding at shops.

Under the new system, a person can get a token by registering on the state excise departments portal and then go to the shop to buy liquor. Only those who get the token can go to the shop and buy liquor.

Nagpur: Yes, you read it right! They are more of majboor (helpless) than being named as pravasi majdoors (migrant labourers). The scene around the city is full of gloom plus men and their families in distress, wandering hungry and thirsty, never knowing when their trail of agony will finally end. The silence of highways are broken with the screams and cries of young ones while the men and women folks keep walking, holding the little ones, day in and day out, in extreme summer heat of May.

Whether the financial package help these helpless, is the question of future. Their present is nothing short of pandemic that came as a bolt from blue hitting their livelihood and out to devastate their very existence. Now these labourers are struggling to find routes back to their roots but finding no means to go. Helplessly, they are taking hitch rides on whatever they are chancing upon on their way to home which seems to be far, far away. And if nothing comes to help, they keep on walking with a will to touch their destination any how.

Hordes of labourers are gathering everyday at Panjri naka and ST Stand at Ganeshpeth in Nagpur to check if they are lucky to board a bus with their families. Finding it hard to move through and frustrated over long wait, patience is bound to loose with empty pockets and stomach too. Moreover thirsty throats too are making it difficult to cope up. But they are determined! Determined to go home and adamant not to return back as long as they can.

Now the big question is – Will any stimulus package boost the economy and growth without the contribution of labourers? Will any infra project, government or private will find its way back on track without these hands?

Will these folks return to contribute in building the nation at grass root level? This remains to be seen later. Till then, the journey of agony continues….

COVID-19 claims 8th policeman in Maharashtra, 5th in Mumbai

A 57-year-old policeman attached to Sewri Police Station succumbed to COVID-19 early on Wednesday morning, officials said. This takes the death toll of policemen claimed by coronavirus to five in Mumbai and eight in the state.

According to Sewri Senior Police Inspector G. B. Kurade, Assistant Sub-Inspector Murlidhar Waghmare breathed his last at a hospital in Navi Mumbai late on Tuesday.

Nagpur: FM accepting CAMIT representation has attempted to prescribe vaccine for few & alternate medicine for other issues said Dipen Agrawal, President – Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT)

Finance Minister accepting long pending demand has amended the definition of MSME. Today’s announcement for clearing bills payable by CPSEs and government departments within 45 days, releasing partial bank guarantee will improve financial condition of MSME. The threshold limit to call for global tender is relaxed to tender value upto 200 crore this step will help domestic entrepreneurs to expand their horizons. Many liquidity measures for standard, stressed & stressed but viable MSMEs were announced, we have to wait and see how these steps are taken forward by banks.

Likewise accepting suggestion on funding all DISCOMs FM has provided for Rs. 90000 crores to fund the DISCOMs facing cash flow problems due to ongoing lockdown, now ball is in State/UT government to provide for concession sought by MSME from DISCOMs, Agrawal added though amount of Discom funding should not be considered to be part of economy stimulus announcement by PM Modi .

Dipen Agrawal pointed out that return filing was usually extended on last date or a day before but Finance Minister had surprised all by announcing extension of return filing due dates for FY 2019-20 (AY 2020-21) which demonstrates that present government is sensitive and working proactively in the interest of all concerned.
