Alexis Hospital Director booked for molestation over years

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: No matter how stricter the laws may come, harassment of fairer sex at work place still seems to be a major concern! In yet another notorious example of molestation and harassment at the offices of corporate stature, police have booked a director at Nagpur’s famous Alexis Hospital located in Mankapur for allegedly molesting his female manager repeatedly over years. The accused director at Alexis Hospital has been identified as Dr Suraj Prakash Tripathi who is allegedly known to the victim.

Meanwhile, in the latest development Dr Tripathi has reportedly resigned from the hospital after the case came to the fore.

As per the complaint received by Mankapur police station, the woman informed that she has been travelling abroad along with Tripathi for hospital works since 2016. During this period he had allegedly tried to make undue advances and misconducted with the lady. For the fear of infamy she reportedly kept mum and continued to bear his objectionable gestures. On January 14, 2019 Dr Suraj Tripathi allegedly called up the woman in his cabin again and molested her.

The woman has levelled various serious allegations against Tripathi. She claimed that Tripathi touched her inappropriately and often talked crass with her when they were on official tour abroad. He kept on trying to offer expensive gifts to the woman who would bluntly turn down all his antics everytime. He would also allegedly call up the woman and often drop her chat messages. When the woman narrated her ordeal at home, her brother also spoke to Dr Tripathi who then also apologized for his misconduct and promised never to repeat any such move in future. Dr Tripathi also gave in writing on a stamp paper that he would refrain from making any advances towards the woman..

The woman has claimed to be having many proofs of Tripathi’s undue moves. Meanwhile, when both she and Tripathi resorted to heated exchanges the matter reached Mankapur police station on Sunday. However no arrest has been made so far which has raised question over role of police in the matter.

Nagpur Today tried to call up Dr Tripathi several times but all the attempts to reach out to him failed as he kept his cell switched off.

Did Alexis Management hide Tripathi’s behaviour?

In the light of such a case of harassment at workplace, a question also crops up as to how Alexis Hospital management could not see it happening right under its nose? If the management was aware of such behavior by one of its senior officials, why it did not take timely action. Sources even claimed that top officials at Alexis Hospital were well aware of the incident but they deliberately tried to cover up the incident in order to avoid any bad name to the hospital.

Retd coal employees push for pending demand of pension revision every 3 years

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Federation of coal industry retired employees Association, consisting of more than 12 affiliate association of retired employees of Coal India and Singereni Coal Co. has demanded for the revision of pension every third year or at worst on revision of wages every five years undertaken through Bipartite Agreement between Management and Trade Unions.
The Federation has been pushing for the cause of revision of pension as per the provision of The Coal Mines Pension Scheme, 1998. In fact the “Contributory Provident Fund” was enacted for the first time in India in the year 1948 under the name and title of “The Coal Mines Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1948”. The Employees, other than Coal workers, were also covered after four years under the “Employees Provident and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952”.

The membership under the Act, 1948 rose to 7.94 Lakhs in the year 1998-99 which went on reducing and as of now it is only about 4 lakhs, in spite of multifold rise in production.

‘The Coal Mines Pension Scheme,’ 1998 provided Pension limited to 25% of emoluments subject to the Pensionable Service of 30 years. The emolument was computed on the average of last 10 months before retirement. If the Pensionable Service was less than 30 years there would be proportionate reduction in pension.

The clause 22 (3) of the Scheme, 1998 provides revision of pension as and when the pension fund permits. The clause 22(1) provided the valuation of the Pension Fund every third year by an Actuary.

There were four revisions of wages after the scheme came into being in 1998, during the years of 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016. The Minimum wages for Category-1 Mazdoor in Coal Mines rose from Rs 1700 to Rs 30445=95 (as on 1-7-2016). However, there was NO REVISION OF PENSION FOR THE LAST 21 YEARS on the plea that the Fund did not permit the revision.

The Federation has claimed that it is the gross violation of the various provisions of Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition ) Act 1971 . It resulted in huge profit to the Coal Companies. The profit of Coal India Ltd rose from Rs 1452 Crore in 1998-99 to Rs 27125 Crores in the year 2018-19. But the only sufferers remained were the retired Coal Miners.

In a press release, O P Miglani, General Secretary of the Federation informed that we received our Provident Fund contributed by the Management also, we have not placed our demand for ONE RANK ONE PESION. But we have been praying that we must be admitted ONE RANK HALF PENSION. The amount realised through levy would not be sufficient to meet our minimum requirement.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Flip-flop on the part of Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has come to the fore. A year back, the RRB had invited applications for recruitment of Non Technical Popular (NTPC) posts. A total of 35,208 posts were to be filled up through this process. But to the exasperation of applicants, the RRB has not fixed date for examination for these posts as yet.

It may be recalled that according to an official notification, the RRB NTPC exam was to be conducted in June-September 2019. But even after lapse of over six months, there is no information on exam date. If media reports are to be believed, Railway could be appointed a company to conduct the exam as a whopping 1.26 crore applications have been received by RRB. To conduct exam for such a massive number of applicants is sort of challenge before Railways. Hence the Railway is mulling to appoint an agency for the exam. Thousands of youths from Nagpur have applied for the posts.

According to a statement given by a top Railway official, tenders for appinting the agency have not been floated as yet. Possibility of declaring the exam date in next month is being ruled out. The application process for the posts had started on March 1, 2019. The process was completed on March 31, 2019.

According to sources, RRB NTPC exam dates 2020 for first stage CBT are likely to be announced either in the last week of January or first week of February 2020. The exam city and admit card will be released few days before the exam. The exam is conducted to select candidates for Non Technical Popular Categories graduate and undergraduate posts.

The posts under RRB NTPC recruitment include Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Commercial Apprentice and Station Master in various Zonal Railways and Production Units of Indian Railways.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday made it clear that it will not grant any stay on the Citizenship Amendment Act without hearing the Centre and said it may refer pleas challenging the validity of the Act to a larger Constitution bench.

A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde is hearing a batch of 143 pleas challenging the validity of CAA, including those filed by the Indian Union Muslim League and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.

Attorney General K K Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, told the bench that the government has been given copies of around 60 pleas out of the 143 petitions.

He said it wanted time to respond to pleas which have not been served on it.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal urged the bench to put on hold operation of CAA and postpone exercise of the National Population Register for the time being.

The court said it will not grant any stay on CAA without hearing the Centre on the matter.

The CAA seeks to grant citizenship to migrants belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Jain and Parsi communities who came to the country from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014.
