Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Even as Nagpur woke up to early morning rains replete with clouds and dense fog on Thursday, a day before it brought considerably warmer Christmas. On Wednesday evening when the people were busy in festivities, the winter chill, which is regular feature around this time of year, was certainly missing. Amid the echos of carols, chants of prayers, mass gatherings at churches, glitz of fineries and aroma of festive delicacies, the breeze of cold winds chose to stay aloof.

However the weather significantly transformed Thursday morning leaving a trail of fog to the sight. There were reports of rains in many areas in Nagpur while neighbouring districts of Betul and outskirts of Chhindwara, in Madhya Pradesh reportedly received hailstorm in moderation.

However the change in weather did not contribute to the temperature as the minimum temperature recorded in early hours of Thursday stood at 20.6 degree.

According to regional meteorological centre Nagpur, the temperature is likely to remain same for another day and it may tend to fall from December 27 onwards.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: One of the accused in the sensational murder of Kinnar Chamcham alias Pravin Gajbhiye has been granted bail by court on Wednesday.

District Judge-8 and Additional Sessions Judge V D Ingle granted bail to Manju Senapati, mother of Uttam Baba, head of transgender community, in the murder case. Uttam Baba and nine others including his mother Manju Senapati, were accused of murdering Chamcham on June 4, 2019 with sharp weapons. The murder was fallout of dispute regarding leading the transgender community in city. All the accused were arrested for offences punishable under Sections 302, 323, 341, 143, 147, 148, 149, 120-B of the IPC read with Section 135 of Maharashtra Police Act and Section 4/25 of Arms Act.

Adv Kamal Satuja and Adv Kailash Dodani appearing for accused Manju Senapati pointed out to the court that she was falsely implicated in the crime. Her name did not figure in the First Information Report (FIR). She was subsequently accused to be one of the conspirators. She was admittedly not among assailants and no injuries were alleged to be inflicted by her.

The lawyer dup further pointed out to court that none of the alleged weapons used in the said murder was recovered from Manju Senapati. The weapons were recovered from other accused. The alleged eyewitness Rashi, a transgender complainant, had not named this accused in her complaint and her initial statement. In the chargesheet filed, there was no material to show that Manju Senapati was amongst the alleged assailants. Therefore, the lawyers argued, her further detention was not required.

Nitin Telgote, District Government Pleader, appearing for the prosecution, opposed the bail application on the ground that there was a huge material against Manju Senapati explaining her involvement in the case. She was amongst the assailants and she had played active role in commission of crime and there were chances of tampering of the prosecution witnesses if she was granted bail. He prayed for rejection of her bail plea.

After hearing arguments of both sides, Judge Ingle granted bail to Manju Senapati and directed her not to tamper prosecution evidence. The court asked her not to enter into Nagpur city jurisdiction till conclusion of the trial, but to remain present in the court on each and every date.

A team of Adv Kamal Satuja, Adv Kailash Dodani, Adv Nitin Rudy, Adv Hitesh Khandwani and Adv Medhavi Arya appeared for Manju Senapati. Nitin Telgote, District Government Pleader represented the prosecution.

Nagpur: The Railway Administration has approved modernisation of four Railway Stations including Nagpur Railway Station on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The other three railway stations are Gwalior, Amritsar and Sabarmati (in Gujarat). Tenders for the necessary work have been floated.

The Indian Railways, following the footsteps of airports, is all set to levy charges for using railway platforms. The charges would be called the User Development Fee (UDF) and will be used for the development and modernisation of the railway platforms. While flying through Indian airports, users have to pay something called Airport Development Charges (ADC), funds collected through which are used for the development and maintenance of airports.

For modernisation and development of facilitities at Nagpur Railway Station, total Rs 412 crore would be spent from PPP scheme. Out of this amount, Rs 372 crore have been earmarked for redevelopment station building and Rs 40 crore for other facilities. After sanctioning of tenders, the private firm would be given rights to recover ‘development fee’ for a period of 99 years. According to an official, the period for modernisation of Nagpur Railway Station would be completed within four and a half years. After completion of the work, ‘user fee’ will be recovered. As of now, the amount of ‘user fee’ has not been fixed.

According to reports, passengers boarding or deboarding trains at Nagpur, Gwalior, Amritsar and Sabarmati will have to pay the UDF, which will also be applicable on those who enter a railway station platform to see off or receive a passenger. However, thus far it has not been decided how much UDF is to be levied for either case.
