Speculations were rife over Dr Sapkal’s resignation when he was summoned by Governor K R Sankaranarayanan who is also Chancellor of Universities in Maharashtra after turmoil in the RTMNU’s Senate meeting held on March 27.

SapkalNagpur News.

Sunday the March 30 witnessed ending of the most controversial tenure of a Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) when Dr Vilas Sapkal resigned after over 3 years of dramatic and dubious events.

Dr Sapkal assumed the charge on December 23, 2010.

Speculations were rife over Dr Sapkal’s resignation when he was summoned by Governor K R Sankaranarayanan who is also Chancellor of Universities in Maharashtra after turmoil in the Senate meeting held on March 27. The meeting was specifically called for passing of RTMNU Budget but chaotic scenes by members forced Dr Sapkal leave the meeting in a huff. The Senate members showed no-trust against the Vice Chancellor that further complicated the matter. The irate members also raised slogans against VC while hundreds of students who gathered outside university premises tried to force themselves in the premises. The police resorted to mild lathi charge in order to disperse the crowd. The Senate meeting which began on peaceful note suddenly turned to a ring and was adjourned till further notice. The annual budget too was eventually disapproved.

Dr Vilas Sapkal met Governor on Saturday and apprised him of the current situation in the University  and expressed his inability to continue the job any further. On March 30, the VC sent a letter to Governor “requesting him to relieve him of his duties.”

An emotional Dr Sapkal told media soon after his decision to resign that the non co-operation and ill-treatment was meted to him on day to day basis. “In this precarious situation, I will not be able to achieve my objectives. I cannot remain part of this system which is proving detrimental to the University and the students as well. Therefore, I have requested the Chancellor to relieve me of my duties.”

Dr Vilas Sapkal, who was for the first time seen in casual attire of plain shirt and pant rather always in suits and boots, further said,  “I was targeted, cornered, pressured, blamed for no fault of mine.” Replying to media queries whether his resignation means victory for his detractors or  the Senate  members, Dr Sapkal said. “I don’t consider this a victory for them. I have taken this decision after considering and analyzing all the factors. I fought all adversities without any pressure. It will be an eye opener for them. I had made the administration very dynamic by expediting the works fast for smooth functioning of the RTMNU.”

“I was shortlisted for six universities but chose Nagpur University with specific objectives and goals for betterment of RTMNU, the colleges and the students,” asserted Dr Sapkal.

Nagpur News.

Anguished over the ruthless behavior of some of the lawyers with AAP candidate from Nagpur Lok Sabha seat Anjali Damania, District Bar Association President Sudeep Jaiswal pulled off its interactive programme with prospective Lok Sabha candidates mid way, dubbing it as the most shameful act in the history of DBA. The programmed aimed at discussing the issues concerning the lawyer community with the prospective Lok Sabha candidates here. On March 29, when the session was on with Damania as the guest, she was subjected to misbehavior after she commented on corruption cases against BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Though she did not discuss politics initially however she was prompted to do so after being asked questions related to Modi by some of lawyers. Irked over her reply few lawyers, understood to be Modi supporters, moved up from their chairs and created ruckus in the hall.

Dr. Vilas Sapkal ( R ) with Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar

Dr. Vilas Sapkal ( R ) with Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar

Nagpur News.

Just resigned from the post of Vice-Chancellor at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Dr. Vilas Sapkal is the aggrieved man who is set to leave the city with heavy heart. The pressure, the backbiting, notwithstanding the fact that the campus has been marred by the series of issues bothering both him and students alike, Dr. Sapkal finally called it a day.

He was of the view that authorities of RTMNU have been  hindering the  smooth functioning of the administration. He lamented the people who attended the meetings used tactics of boycot, lack of quorum, walk-outs etc. They had somehow achieved the process of stopping the progress and pro-student decisions of university work. “In order to hide their own deficiencies, they had been blaming me personaly for all the faults and mismanagement,” said Dr. Sapkal.

While elaborating on the issue of banning admisision to 250 colleges lacking efficient staff and appropriate infrastructure, he said that even the court had observed that the authorities were unsuccessful in  providing genuine perspective on this issue. Even during his last senate meeting to present varsity’s Annual Budget, the members diverted the discussions to some other issues and eventually called the meeting off amidst uproar and noisy scenes, he anguished.

As Dr. Sapkal’s tenure in Nagpur came to a sorry end, Nagpur Today quizzed him over his stint in the top job of campus,

What was your tenure as Vice Chancellor of RTMNU? What you term your tenure in RTMNU as?

It was three and a half years. In this short time, of my tenure in RTMNU, I have done a lot of work, however, I have adhered to the rules and regulations of the University. I have ensured transparency in all the functionings of RTMNU  administration. The fruits and results of which the students will enjoy in the future.

What were your key achievements?

Some of the prominent achievements during my tenure included recruitment of teachers, syllabus upgradation, Technology Park, Research projects, credit base system, ICTE, Urdu Department, Gram Geeta Bhavan and many more.

What is your message to the students of RTMNU?

I want that the students to keep on acquiring knowledge and skills. Only through the use of knowledge and skills combined with technology can one excel in life. One should learn and focus on global opportunities, in higher education and knowledge driven sectors for career advancements.

Did power politics forced you to resign?

RTMNU is run and controlled by  a group of persons with ulterior motives from affiliated colleges who try to give preference to affiliated colleges.

Was there issues of indicipline among the members of authorities?

Of Course, there were many issues of indiscipline among the authorities. They were doing wrong deed and putting the blame on the administration.

What next?

Former VC: Henceforth, I shall devote more time in teaching and in research work.

Meanwhile, Head of the Department of Biotech, RTMNU, Prof Pande, while speaking with Nagpur Today said that under the leadership of Dr. Vilas Sapkal, our university had become top most in research in the last two years and the support that department got from the VC in the past three and a half years, has never before been given by any other VC. “Dr Sapkal was very interactive with the students. spicemumNagpur News.Triggering another big rush for cheap air tickets, SpiceJet which announced a three day sale of domestic tickets at the base fare of Re 1 along with big discounted fares, witnessed a major crash of its website after the travelers rampaged the site to grab their share of cheap tickets. However the tickets under offer would be made available for the journey from July 1, the enthusiastic lot logged on in astounding numbers to lap up the offer.

Right after the announcement, the users plugged on the site which plummeted immediately, leaving the people in Nagpur highly distressed.

The sale has been made applicable on direct flights of SpiceJet’s new domestic network, for which provision of ticket bookings is provided at SpiceJet website (www.spicejet.com), and through travel portals and travel agents. But nearly all the channels were choked completely owing to heavy flow of visitors at these sites.

In addition to the Re 1 offer, discounted fares are also available for Rs 799 and Rs 1,499, and at other attractive rates (statutory taxes and fees not inclusive), depending on specific flight and date of travel. The limited seats offer is available for bookings made in the period April 1 to April 3, 2014 only.

Mahesh Gokhale, an IT professional and frequent business traveler said, “I have been trying to book the ticket since morning, but to my distress even the site is not opening. It has just become as frustrating as railway tatkal hours. Such an offer is nothing but a promotion gimmick. I wonder how many of the users are actually benefited from such an offer.”

Similary Rani Lakhotia, who was enthused by the offer, kept hanging on to the Spicejet’s site without any yield. She desperately made series of attempts to get through but could not get to the main page even, she told Nagpur Today.

Nagpur News.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Manikrao Thakre launched a blistering attack on BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi dubbing the party as the mask of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). “This Lok Sabha election has now turned Congress Vs RSS,” Thakre claimed.

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Centre Point here on Tuesday, Thakre said, “Whenever Narendra Modi tried to take over the charge in general elections, Congress added seats to its side. The analysis of the last two Lok Sabha elections adequately proves the fact. This time also, Modi is taking the campaign to new high and triggering a rage among voters of all religions who have decided to vote for Congress-led Democratic Front in Maharashtra. Congress and its allies will win maximum seats in the State as the Lok Sabha elections have now turned between RSS and Congress. BJP and Narendra Modi are mask of RSS.”

He exuded confidence saying the Congress-led Front (NCP, People’s Republican Party, Bahujan Samaj Ekta Manch, Lokmanch and RPI-Khobragade) will win more seats than the last elections. Congress alone will emerge victorious in more than 20 seats in entire Maharashtra. Seven seats are a certainty in Vidarbha and the party is making all out efforts to win the remaining three seats in the region, he added.

Striking down the emphasis of opinion polls, Thakre said, “I have still not understood the basis of these opinion polls. All these survey reports would be proved wrong.”

Sonia’s rally on April 5

Thakre informed that Congress President Sonia Gandhi will campaign for both the party candidates in the district and will address a public meeting on April 5 in Chikhli which is along the borders of Nagpur and Ramtek Lok Sabha constituencies. Thereafter, Sonia Gandhi will proceed to Gondia and address a public meeting there as a part of campaigning for NCP candidate for Gondia-Bhandara Lok Sabha constituency Prafulla Patel. Similarly, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting in Yavatmal on April 4, Thakre told the reporters.

In Maharashtra, the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled in three phases. In the first phase, Vidarbha will go for poll in region’s 10 seats on April 10. In the second phase, Marathwada and Western Maharashtra will vote for 19 seats on April 17 while the third phase will see voting for remaining 19 seats in Mumbai, nearby areas, Konkan and some parts of Western Maharashtra on April 24, Thakre said. Congress is contesting on in 27 seats and NCP in 21 seats. Others who were present at the press conference include Nitin Raut, Anees Ahmed, Sandesh Singalkar, Munna Ojha, Bhola Baisware and others.

AAP’s Anjali Damania attacks media for unfair, biased reporting, shunning basic responsibility

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur News: Taking Arvind Kejriwal’s harshly worded criticism of media, both print and electronic, ahead, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate for Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency Anjali Damania blasted the media for unfair and biased reporting. “Most of the newspapers and electronic media are not working in fairness.IMG-20140401-WA0005

They have shunned their basic responsibility of impartial reporting. All the Four Pillars of Democracy — Executive (Government) 2) Legislature (Parliament & State Assemblies, etc. 3) Judiciary (Supreme Court, High Court & other judicial agencies. 4) Press (Newspapers, electronic news channels) — , it appears, have gone weak and crumbling, specifically the Press.

The Press is conveniently turning a blind eye towards other three Pillars. Most of the newspapers have turned their loyalties to political parties instead of citizens,” said a red-faced Damania and condemned the unfair and biased reporting.

Addressing a public meeting in Golibar Chowk, Damania let loose her harsh words against media for creating confusion among citizens. “In the last Assembly elections in Gujarat, the Chief Minister Narendra Modi had promised in BJP’s manifesto that 50 lakh low cost houses will be constructed for poor and needy people. How many newspapers have reported the reality and pursued the matter further whether Modi Government fulfilled the promise.

Among the 4 pillars of Democracy, Press has greater responsibility and power to create better world and better future. But unfortunately, the Fourth Pillar itself has become weak and crumbling under pressure of unfairness,” Damania claimed.
