Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Since the last 15 days or so the few residents living in Sahara city on Wardha road have been petrified with the idea of a wild animal like a tiger or a leopard living in their midst in the deserted part of the large Sahara city complex.

A linesman checking on wiring claimed he had seen ‘a tiger’ within the periphery of the City.

Then a dog called Kalu was found dead one morning on the streets of the Sahara city. The residents took photos and buried him.

Later, looking at the photos of the killed Kalu foresters confirmed he had been killed by a predator. They advised residents to be extra vigilant and began patrolling the area.
They also burst crackers in the areas with wild growth to “scare off” the tiger.

The Sahara residents groups began sharing messages with news of the presence of the beast. They also approached me, as Nagpur Today Editor with the news.

They advised me to ascertain the facts with a Forest officer Jadhav.

In a telephonic conversation he confirmed clearly that yes, a big cat, either a tiger or a leopard was living WITHIN the Sahara City.

That is why they had installed CCTV to capture images.

When questioned about where the cameras were installed, in the villages around Sahara, or forest behind, he categorically stated that they were only within the Sahara City as they were 100% sure the beast was living within.

Their team was photographed by Sahara residents with whom they were in regular touch.

Then why is the Forest department going back on its version now? In fact they have come up with a very unconvincing statement that there is no wild animal like a tiger or leopard in the area and “all such rumours are false”.

What’s at play here?

Is there pressure to change their earlier statements from the builder lobby; or local politicians or barons of Educational institutes located in the area behind Sahara?

But if this is their stance now, what happens to the safety of people living in Sahara or the villagers living in Jhari, Rui etc?

Who allays their fear and ensures their safety and well being?

Also, what happens to the wild animal who could have unawares tress passed into a human habitat?

Isn’t it up to the Forest department to capture it and transfer it back to the Forest?

There have already been too many cases of frustrated and enraged villagers taking matters into their own hands and ‘eliminating’ an animal that is endangering their lives and lives of their feed stock and pets? Such instances have happened when foresters were ineffectual.

Hope the same will not be the fate of this animal of Sahara City.

Nagpur: On one hand while the Centre, the State and the local civic body is running plantation drives to maintain the environment, irresponsible citizens in the city are found to be doing the reversing act by felling huge trees in their areas. A similar incident came to notice in the premises of Shri Krishna Apartment at Mecosabagh on Monday.

Sunny Sharma, a resident of the apartment, informed that around a dozen trees of mango, lemon and guava were felled in the building premises without prior permission from the society and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The trees were 30-35 years old and around 40 feet tall.

It was informed that on the call of a resident, around a dozen people came and cut the trees within an hour’s time. Till the time other residents assembled at the place, the tree-fellers ran away with half of the wood. Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: To promote use of public toilets, Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has launched ‘Shauchalaya Apnao Swachh Bharat Banao’ scheme under which public toilets and urinals would be cleaned and made smell-free in the city.

Public toilets and urinals are never clean and therefore citizens avoid using them due to odor. Therefore, organic powder would be used for cleaning and it would be the first such novel method in the country. This scheme was started two weeks ago and has started giving results.

The Union Minister wants to implement this scheme in the State and country soon. There are close to 100 public toilets and urinals in all part of the city but due to bad odor many urinals are not used and denizens use the space around the urinal. This makes the area dirty and creates danger to health.

As a remedy and to give hand to PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, all public toilets and urinals would be adopted. The toilets would be cleaned regularly and organic powder would be used as deodorant. Since the last two weeks, 27 toilets and urinals have become odorless.

This would help the Smart City Project, stoppage of pollution of water bodies, toilets and urinals are cleaned with chemicals, which contaminate streams and rivers.

This contaminated water reaches lakes and other water sources and also seeps in the ground. This affects the health of citizens and water based life. Now with the Union Minister’s initiative, organic deodorant would be used and water pollution would stop.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Just in time for Children’s Day and during World Vegan Month, a group of children varying from KG to standard IV were found wearing chick costumes on the steps of Eternity Mall at 4 pm on Tuesday while volunteering for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal (PETA) India and PFA Nagpur with the aim of educating people about the best way to help stop animal suffering while improving their own health is to go vegan.

While interacting with Nagpur Today, PETA India campaigner Radhika Suryavanshi from Mumbai said that “The gruesome killing of countless male chicks simply because they cannot lay eggs is not only cruel but also entirely unnecessary. It is easy to cook using plant based ingredients instead of supporting the cruelty of the egg industry,”

“In addition to sparing chickens and other animals immense suffering, people who go vegan dramatically reduce their carbon footprints as well as their risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, diabetes or obesity,” she added.

The recent investigation from PETA revealed that in the several hatcheries and farms run by top players in the Indian egg and meat industries in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, majority of the chicken used for eggs and meat in India are reared, reveled for the first time that millions of male and otherwise unwanted chicks in the country are commonly ground up, drowned, burned, crushed thrown into rubbish bins and even fed to other animals while still alive.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has demanded the Union Government to set up an e commerce portal exclusively for small businesses since the existing portals have failed to provide equal opportunities and level playing field to small traders. The CAIT has also demanded early announcement of an E Commerce Policy and formation of a Regulatory Authority for e commerce business in India.

In a communication sent to Union Commerce Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu today, the CAIT has said that e commerce business in India is highly vitiated and has been gripped by few big online companies who are indulging into predatory pricing, deep discounting and loss funding much against the spirit of Press Note No.3 of 2016 of FDI Policy of the Government.

CAIT National President Mr. B.C.Bhartia & Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal said that inspite of making several complaints against such Companies no action has been taken so far which has encouraged these companies to flout the policy quite openly by inserting big advertisements on both electronic and print media luring the consumers directly even though they can not conduct B2C business. These Companies have created an uneven level playing field and are influencing the prices in the market. Except few of their own outfits, the sellers registered on their platform do not get fair and equal opportunity of selling their goods on respective e commerce platforms. They are giving preferential treatment to few of the sellers.

Both Mr. Bhartia & Mr. Khandelwal said that in absence of any policy, firm guidelines or rules and regulations, these online companies are treating e commerce business as an open play ground with having their own rules set up by them which is proving much disadvantageous to offline business in the Country.

Mr. Bhartia & Mr. Khandelwal demanded that the Government in association with Trade Associations should launch an E Commerce Marketplace portal where small traders, artisans, women entrepreneur and others can sell their products in a fair & transparent manner.

The trade leaders said that e-commerce policy which is pending for a long time should be finalised immediately and put to implementation. It is also urged that stakeholders must be consulted before finalising the said policy. They also demanded that a Regulatory Authority should be formed to monitor and regulate E Commerce business in India. The said Regulator should be armed with penal powers as well for taking action against any Company which violates the policy or guidelines.

NAGPUR: The Nagpur session court on Thursday issued notices to Sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Mohan Bhagwat and its Vyavastha Pramukh along with Kotwali police station asking them all to file replies on a petition challenging the use of wooden sticks (lathis) in their programs.

During its various programs, the RSS organizes path-sanchalan, where lathis are openly displayed by hundreds of uniform-clad volunteers. During one such training session held on 28 May this year, around 700 volunteers of RSS had participated in path-sanchalan with lathis on their shoulders.

Mohnish Jabalpure, a resident of Mahal in Nagpur, has filed a petition in the court challenging the use and display of lathis during RSS programs. Under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Jabalpure had sought information about the rules under which police grants permission for path-sanchalan (march-past). In the reply given by the police department, it was clearly mentioned that the use and display of lathis is prohibited during path-sanchalan. In his petition filed in the High Court, Jabalpure stated that the public use and display of lathis creates atmosphere of terror and hence it should be banned. He also pointed out that as per the Arms Act, path-sanchalan can be conducted without the use of lathis.

The Nagpur session Court has admitted the petition filed by Mohnish Jabalpure and issued notices to RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, Vyavastha Pramukh of the particular program Anil Bokare, and Kotwali police station asking them to clear their stand on the issue.
