Nagpur: Protesting against illegal plying of overloaded trucks from Nagpur to Patansawangi and further to Khapa-Badegaon-Bichhwa (Khursapar) till Ramakona; villagers residing beside these roads have appealed to the District Collector to stop this illegal transportation immediately. The villagers have also threatened to stage ‘rasta roko’ agitation after the Geneshotsava if the action is not taken by then.

The villagers informed the Collector that around 300 trucks, tipper and trailers, registered with different RTOs in Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh; ply illegally and overloaded on above-mentioned route to avoid RTO Naka between Kelvad in Maharashtra to Sausar in Madhya Pradesh.

Although Koradi, Patansawangi and Khapa police stations are on the same route, the illegal transportation continues unabated round the clock. Moreover, the illegal vehicles are also engaged in transportation of liquor, meat, cattle, minerals and sand. And all is going on with the support of police and RTO, the villagers alleged.

The villagers have demanded that a check-post be created at Badegaon. Also, flying squads of RTO shall be deployed on the said route. The villagers have submitted a memorandum to Khapa police station apprising them of the situation. The copies of the memorandum have been sent to local MLA Sunil Kedar, SP Rural, Regional Transport Officer, Saoner Tehsildar and Saoner police inspector.

The villagers also said that check-post will increase revenues of the RTO. The check on overloaded trucks will also ensure further ruining of road conditions. The villagers also threatened that if their demands were not met, they will stage rasta roko after Ganeshotsava.

It was about an aspiration to realize constitutional rights and equal existence of LGBT community as other citizens. However, marriages and child adoption in the society are still unresolved issues in front of us.”

Aapli Bus

Nagpur: Even as the Ganesh festival is adding up to all the vibrance and fervour throughout the city, the commuters are facing hard times coping up with less number of city buses plying on the roads. The reason – less number of conductors are available as most of them are not reporting to duty in view to festive engagements due to Mahalaxmi and Ganesh festival.

On Friday too, many passengers of Aapli Bus were left stranded on over a dozen routes after many buses did not ply on time due to non-availability of conductors. A senior official from Delhi Integrated Multimodal Transit System (DIMTS), agency monitoring the city bus service gave information in this regard.

The two agencies, Unity Infrastructure and Security and Intelligence Services (SIS), that were appointed to streamline the city bus service, together have 1,500 conductors for running 320 buses. However, the NMC has suffered a loss of over Rs 50 crore since April 2018 as many buses could not be operated for want of conductors.
Since September 9, three red bus operators of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Aapli Bus service have cancelled many trips due to lack of conductors.

The affected routes include Sitabuldi to Besa, Godhni, Hingna, Bahadur Phata, Vaishali Nagar, Pardi, Defence (Wadi), New Narsala and others. “On September 11, the operators could not ply around 24 buses. On Friday too they had to cancel trips of 12 buses on these routes,” said a senior official from NMC’s transport department. DIMTS has issued show cause notices to both the ticketing agencies for causing financial loss due to non-availability of conductors.

DIMTS official, however, said lack of conductors has not affected the service badly as the number of passengers was less due to festivals like Pola and Ganesh Chaturthi. One of the operators said they have enough drivers and buses to run the buses. “However, we are losing trips due to unavailability of conductors, while NMC too is suffering revenue loss,” the operator said.

Passengers were forced to travel in overcrowded Red buses. Some criticized the NMC for the deteriorating service. Prakash Bhalerao, a regular traveller from Wadi, said, “The bus service has gone from bad to worse. I was waiting for almost an hour but failed to get bus for Wadi Defence to Sitabuldi route.”

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Sitabuldi in Nagpur is best known as market hub. But the area has a dubious distinction, too, as police records would reveal. As per records, Sitabuldi has emerged as most dangerous place for youngsters. In the last three and half years since 2015, 24 youngsters were killed in different kinds of crimes under the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi Police Station. The startling fact has come to the fore through Right to Information Act.

In reply to an RTI query posed by activist Abhay Kolarkar, who had sought information regarding crime scenario in under jurisdictionns of Dhantoli, Ambazari and Sitabuldi police stations, the city cops had provided the shocking details. Kolarkar had specifically asked about murders, crime against women and fatal attacks on young boys and girls.

As per RTI reply, 24 incidents of attack on children were recorded in which 24 kids were killed between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2018 under Sitabuldi Police Station jurisdiction. Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: In a significant development, Nagpur Metro Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has issued notice to M/s Ankur Estate Private Ltd and gave a 24-hour ultimatum to demolish illegal constructions in the premises of ‘Meadows Club’ in Suraburdi. The NMRDA has warned of demolition without prior notice if the ultimatum is not adhered to. Expenses of the action will also be recovered.

The NMRDA had on July 30, 2018, had issued a notice to Byramji Town-based M/s Ankur Estate Pvt Ltd informing it that illegal constructions such as a hall and cottage in the ground and first floor of ‘Meadows Club’, situated at Khasra No. 103/1, 103/2 of Mauza Suraburdi in Nagpur Rural. The NMRDA has termed the constructions illegal as no prior permission was sought. A 24-hour ultimatum has been issued to demolish the illegal constructions or else the NMRDA will act on its own in accordance with Section 53 of Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act, the notice said.

Copy of the notice has been forwarded to Wadi Police Inspector, Executive Engineer-1 of NMRDA, and MSEDCL’s Executive Engineer.

It may be recalled that roads leading to Suraburdi-based Minor Irrigation Project (small lake) have allegedly been grabbed by Brijkishore Hargovind Agrawal Group and the roads were closed. A complainant had drawn attention of State Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan towards the issue.

According to the complainant, earlier also the Executive Engineer at Ajni Office was apprised of the matter through a complaint but no action was taken. The Brijkishore Hargovind Agrawal Group had started the Suraburdi-based ‘Meadows Club’ 10 years back. The Group clandestinely grabbed the nearby lands near the lake and illuminated the area brightly ‘illegally.’

On the other hand, a 2.01 hectare land of Irrigation Department was given to the Group’s Ankur Agrawal 10 years ago for tourism development. In return, it was made mandatory for Ankur Agrawal to remit Rs 60,000 per year. However, Ankur Agrawal did absolutely nothing for development of tourism in the past 10 years. On the contrary, the place was converted to a commercial lawn and earned in crores. Moreover, water of the nearby lake was misused and left the irrigated areas in the lurch.

The land was allotted to Ankur Agrawal on a 10-year lease in 2004. The lease period ended in 2014. But with the “blessings” of local office of Executive Engineer, Ankur Agrawal utilised the land free of cost and applied for renewal of the lease in 2018. The application was found full of shortcomings.

According to Water Resources Ministry, the lease period was not renewed. Subsequently, the complainant had demanded penal action against Ankur Agrawal for sidelining the rules and regulations.

Nagpur: It’s been over one year that the angiography machine at the Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) at Government Medical Hospital has been functioning irregularly and has even went idle several times during operations.

A source informed Nagpur Today that the machine’s ‘operation’ is pending since past 3 weeks. Despite knowing the angiography machine developing snags frequently at the cardiology operation theatre (OT), the administration chose to sit idle.

A patient currently staying at SSH for 3 weeks now, with a problem of hole in her heart, highlighted her ordeal.

She said, “Every system is pathetic here. Doctors do not visit the ward regularly which is why they are unable to understand our problem. First the doctor told me that my operation will be performed on Friday, last week. But since then, not even the doctor or attendant has visited even once for the operation. Staff said that angiography machine is not working due to which no operation has been performed at SSH.”

Another patient whose operation has been kept on hold for over a month said, “A doctor told me that the Oxygenator is not functioning and so they are unable to operate me. We are facing so much trouble because neither the nurses nor the doctors are explaining the matter to us. They always ignore us whenever we ask them about the machine or about the operation.”

Meanwhile denying all the allegations, Head of Department (HOD) Dr M A Deshpande told Nagpur Today that in this entire year only for once the angiography machine took a pause. “On May 28, the machine was once shut down because of some technical glitch. One can understand that it is a machine and can stop working anytime. No such problems have occurred and all the angiographies are going on smoothly,” he added.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

NAGPUR: Petrol and diesel prices have broken all records. But they are not uniform across the country. The prices vary due to several factors, the most important being the state value-added tax (VAT). States do not levy the VAT at the same rate which leads to a wide variation in prices.

In India, petrol and diesel prices are dependent on a lot of factors. The actual price of petrol and diesel is way less than what we pay for it at the pumps. For every litre of petrol, a buyer also pays excise duty, state VAT, dealer commission and transportation cost apart from the actual price of petrol. The final price of petrol and diesel at the pump is: price charged by refineries to dealers + Central government tax (customs duty, excise duty) + state tax (VAT) + dealer commission + inland freight charges. The retail price for petrol reaches up to Rs 90.42 per litre in Maharashtra’s Parbhani where state VAT is the highest. This is the highest price for a litre of petrol in India.

Among the

In Nagpur petrol is at Rs. 88.67 because the state tax in Maharashtra is the highest. On the other hand, prices of petrol and diesel are a bit less in Port Blair where a litre of petrol costs Rs 69.97, Rs 18.7 less than in Nagpur.

The lowest VAT percentage is for Port Blair with 6 per cent VAT levied on petrol. This leads to the lowest cost of petrol in Port Blair. In comparison, state VAT on petrol in Mumbai is 39.12 per cent, the highest in the country. Diesel sells at Rs 77.82 in Mumbai while in Port Blair the price is Rs 68.58. State VAT on diesel in Mumbai is 24.78 per cent, among the highest; in Port Blair, it is 6 per cent, the lowest.

A high VAT on petrol doesn’t necessarily mean an equally high VAT for diesel too. The highest VAT for diesel was levied by Andhra Pradesh with 28.08 per cent but four days back the state government cut it by Rs 2. Now the highest VAT is levied by Telangana at 26.01 per cent.

NAGPUR: Demanding to restart admission process after they failed to meet deadline due to delayed revaluation results, the students of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) stages agitation at the Vice-Chancellor office on Saturday. However, when the VC refused to heed to their demand, the agitating students decided to stage dharna at the VC office till the university reopens on Monday morning.

The future of hundreds of students of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) is at stake as students have not been admitted to their next academic sessions. These students had failed due to less marks or due to errors in checking the exam papers and they had applied for revaluation of exam papers.

The last date of admission for all the courses was September 6 and students were instructed to complete the procedures within the framed time period. Many students had applied for revaluation of their papers but they didn’t know that revaluation result will be declared after September 10.

This created a havoc in the minds of students as institutes and university refused to admit them after the date. Students from different streams and colleges approached the university and met Vice-Chancellor SP Kane but in vain.

Students alleged that even after the revaluation result came late and students had passed in the results, the university denied giving admissions to them. The students said their future was at stake and university was responsible for declaring the results late. They demanded that admission process be restarted so that all the students were admitted in their respective colleges.

During the agitation, the VC reportedly called city police. He said that revaluation was just one of the facilities and students won’t get admission through it. Meanwhile, the students have decided to stage dharna in front of the VC’s office till the university opens on Monday.

Nagpur: At a time when the cops are on their toes hunting down the notorious hookah parlours flourishing in and around Nagpur, yet another big raid has exposed the murky game of rave parties. In a midnight swoop on a party den, rural SP Rakesh Ola along with senior policemen from Nagpur rural police team has cracked down on alleged sex trade being run in a house located right in the middle of Gondkhairi village, 40 kms off Nagpur on Saturday night.

The cops have caught 6 girls and few customers from the spot and detained them for interrogation. Besides, huge amount of cash, liquor bottles, note counting machine, DJ equipments and alleged banned substances were also seized from the spot. During the raid, few big names have also surfaced who were allegedly the regular customers at this place.

The dubious duo known as Ujjwala and Rohan were said to be the perpetrators behind the racket. The duo allegedly runs an event management company and operates sex racket in its garb. They conduct Dubai tours and organise events. Both are said to have strong political connection and learnt to have brought girls from Mumbai.

Few months ago, the duo was rounded up at the similar raid in Jaripatka area, but were let off for the reasons best known to cops.

It was not yet known whether the duo was also present during the raid at Gondkhairi.

It is learnt that the area is well protected from the police eye as members of certain community guard the area. They do not let the cops enter their territory, a source said. In the past too, the women from this community have atracked the police party and the latter had to return without action.

However this time SP (Nagpur Rural) Ola laid a siege and policemen from various rural police stations were called upon to join the forces and hit the den in the dark of night at around 2 am.

Sources informed that the party was on when the cops raided the premises. The girls were allegedly performing obscene dance before the customers who too were caught in the raid.
