Dalits will play key role in deciding country’s next PM: Nitin Raut

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Dalits, who are “angry” with the National Democratic Alliance government, will play a key role in deciding the country’s next prime minister a year down the line and back Congress president Rahul Gandhi for the coveted slot, party leader Nitin Raut has said.

Newly-appointed chairman of the Congress’ SC department, Raut said Dalit youth will get attracted to Gandhi’s leadership for a positive future than other non-BJP/NDA leaders, including those representing the community.

This is mainly because the Congress chief stands a chance to become the prime minister unlike those leaders, he added.

The former Maharashtra minister also dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent claim that his government has honoured Dalit icon B R Ambedkar like no other previous dispensation.

Raut charged Modi and the BJP with issuing such statements only eyeing the community’s votes.

“Dalits, especially the community youth, are feeling angry under the NDA’s regime. They are being denied educational, employment opportunities which never happened when the Congress was in power. This anger will make Dalits play a key role in deciding the next prime minister,” Raut told PTI.

He said in the run up to the next Lok Sabha polls, his department will focus hard on uniting as many Dalits as possible under the Congress’ umbrella to see Gandhi is propelled to the post of the prime minister.

There are 84 parliamentary seats which are reserved for the scheduled castes across the country. The BJP had won more of these seats than any other party in the 2014 general elections. The Congress could win only 3-4 of these reserved seats, Raut said.

“We will try to win maximum seats possible in 2019 based on the works governments led by our party had done for the Dalits. We have records to show that. We will try to unite Dalits,” he said.

At a time when Dalit voters are divided and follow several leaders like Jignesh Mevani, Raut said the community members will be attracted to Gandhi nationally as he is more likely to become the prime minister than the former.

He also said Dalits have no option but to look at the Congress, “if they don’t want BJP at the Centre again” given no other party than either of these two will be able to form the next government.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Hundreds of shoppers who visited at Empress Mall on Sunday experienced a harrowing time as they remained stranded inside the mall for hours on end, after relatives of the three labourers who died in a well on the mall’s premises created scenes by bringing the bodies there after post-mortem. The relatives kept the bodies on the floor at the entrance and demanded compensation for Rs 25 lakh each for the kin of the victims.

The bodies were brought to the mall around 4.15pm when there were hundreds of shoppers inside. Around 6pm, cops closed entry to the mall. All the shops were shut by 7.30pm.

Some of the local politicians, who accompanied the relatives, later arranged to keep the bodies in freezers to prevent them from decomposing.

Many shoppers were stranded in the mall for almost two hours as cops had cordoned off the place. Police assured the shoppers that the situation was under control and later provided them a safe passage out. A senior police official said that police personnel of six police stations were summoned to the spot.

Sources said the relatives left the mall with the bodies around 10.15pm following assurance regarding compensation from the management. “The management gave Rs50,000 each to the families of the deceased as immediate relief,” the sources said.

Ganeshpeth police had on Saturday night booked KSL industries chairman Pravin Tayal and mall manager Khusboo Agrawal along with other three, identified as Pradip Bhawte, Sameer Takone and Komal Raijode, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Tayal and management had yet not responded to media.

Sources claimed that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has promised Rs2 lakh each for the family of the deceased. “Compensation will also be provided from chief minister’s relief fund,” the sources said.

The relatives claimed that the victims were the only bread earner in their families. One of the deceased, Deepak Gauthe was a carpenter who is survived by wife Archana, son Rakesh, 12, and daughter Nidhi, 15. Another deceased Chandrashekhar Barapatre leaves behind wife Ranjana, son Adarsh, 16, and daughter Payal, 14. The third deceased Ajay Garodi is survived by wife Nanda and two sons Bhushan, 8, and Yuvraj, 11.

Nagpur: Though the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Main) held on Sunday was easy, students were troubled a bit due to wrong questions in physics section. Students claimed that there were two wrong questions in physics and one question had two correct answers in Chemistry. Such things were bound to confuse students and disturb their flow. Surprisingly, no questions were asked from ray optics but two questions were included from wave optics.

Student Shashank Kore, said, “The paper was not good. Physics was the most difficult as one could sail through it only if one’s concepts were thorough. Chemistry and math were manageable. I could have done better if there was more time.” Another student Sameer Dongarwar, said, “Maths was lengthy and a bit tricky. But physics was easy to solve.”

Total 10.43 lakh students were registered for JEE Main 2018 across India and abroad. Exam was held in 112 cities, of which eight were abroad. There were 1,621 exam centres, of which eight were abroad.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The City Unit of Congress party is observing fast on Monday, April 9, to promote and protect the communal harmony.

A statement released by the party stated that Congress President Rahul Gandhi has directed the party members to organise a nation-wide fast April 9 in all states and district headquarters.

The statement added, “Peace and harmony has been embodied in the soul of this country and the responsibility to uphold it lies with the Congress. What has happened on April 2 Bharat Bandh was very unfortunate. It is very dangerous for social fabric of the country,” said the statement issued by Ashok Gehlot, AICC General Secretary.

Targetting the BJP Government, the party in its release said, “Clearly BJP ruled Centre and state governments didn’t initiate any steps to curb the violence neither to protect the fraternity, therefore it becomes even more important for the Congress to lead the nation in tough time.”

Earlier on April 2, Bharat Bandh was called out by several Dalit organisations to protest against the alleged dilution of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by the Supreme Court. The Bharat Bandh turned violent after protestors resorted to stone pelting, vandalising of public properties and also tried to disrupt rail services.

The apex court on March 20 had introduced the provision of anticipatory bail in the SC/ST Act, while directing that no automatic arrests would be carried out on any complaint filed under the law. Reacting to the violence, the Centre on Monday filed a review petition in the top court, seeking reconsideration of its March 20 judgement.

Nitin Raut
Nagpur: To protest against atrocities on Dalits across the country, the City Unit of Congress party observed fast on Monday, April 9, to promote and protect the communal harmony. The nation-wide fast is being observed on the directives of Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi is himself the hunger strike at Rajghat in New Delhi.

Former State Minister and newly appointed Chairman of the AICC SC Department Dr Nitin Raut staged the hunger strike in Bhandara. Former MP Nana Patole also joined him. Dr Nitin Raut said that atrocities on Dalits have increased after the BJP Government came to power. He further said that the Congress party will support and stand with Dalits.

“Peace and harmony has been embodied in the soul of this country and the responsibility to uphold it lies with the Congress. What has happened on April 2 Bharat Bandh was very unfortunate. It is very dangerous for social fabric of the country,” said the party.

Targetting the BJP Government, the Raut said, “Clearly BJP ruled Centre and state governments didn’t initiate any steps to curb the violence neither to protect the fraternity, therefore it becomes even more important for the Congress to lead the nation in tough time.”

“Congress Party condemns atrocities on Dalits. Party leaders all over the country have supported Rahul Gandhi’s by keeping a fast today,” he added..

He further said, what can one expect from such leaders and nobody can feel secure in their rule.

Demolishing Krazy castle seems such a crazy idea this summer!

Crazy castle

Nagpur: The ‘take over ‘ of NIT’s ‘Amusement and Water park’ called Krazy Castle by Nagpur Metro has begun. The compound wall was demolished and JCBs have begun digging holes in the park’s parking lot situated at the far end, towards Vivekanand Memorial side.

This demolition work began 4 days ago, soon after the meeting held at the residence of the Nagpur M.P. between Metro, NMC and NIT and Haldiram management. According to NMC sources, Haldiram management ‘agreed’ to give up the leased land on which Crazy Castle stands completely to Nagpur metro. Since their lease was to run till 2025, they will be compensated for their loss. The compensation is to be decided by a committee which has again been set up by the M.P.

But if you go to Crazy Castle anytime now, like the NT team went, you will find the park activities on in full steam.

Right at the entry, the wooden gates are being painted with a fresh coat in view of the weather and the crowds. There are security guards and hospitality staff all around.

Inside the park, there are youngsters screaming with thrilled excitement (tinged with a little fear!) at the 100 feet free fall, the 45″ Bungee Ejection and Krazy swinger. There are younger kids enjoying the milder rides like the Cater Pillar, the Carousal and the Cartoon Train.

Yesterday being Sunday about 1500 people visited the park.

“But our peak season begins from the last week of April to mid June. May is when maximum visitors are expected; that is when relatives and friends of Nagpurians come to visit, and Crazy Castle is one place where everyone loves to bring his guests!” Says Gautam Roy, G.M. of the park.

Crazy castle
So this period sees up to 3000 visitors a day too. It’s like all roads lead to Ambazari and Crazy Castle then. Quite rightly so, since this is the only park of its kind lying right within the city. And much better equipped with many more rides and better infrastructure of international standards than any other ‘water park’ lying on the outskirts of the city, 40 to 60 Kms away. Just getting there and back can take half the day along uneven and bad country roads. And not every family has the wherewithal to carry their families to such far off places.

Haldiram got the tender for the park in 2000 – 2001. Crazy Castle opened its doors to visitors in 2006.

In the last few years, Crazy Castle has been a project that the Nagpur Improvement Trust is proud to call its most successful and attractive project. Just like common people bring their visitors, city fathers bring their official visitors too to showcase their achievement.

But now this park has to make its way for the Nagpur Metro

Crazy castle
The city definitely wants its metro, and will get used to using it too. (Specially in the harsh summer months where the cool interiors will shield people from killer 47* temperatures.)

The iconic stations, the green carriages, the Heritage walks and parks being built by the Maha metro have been a talking point for all in the city.

It is going to be a metro unlike any in the country. And for its cause we are ready to suffer all the inconveniences of choked traffic, pot holed roads etc. etc. (We are even waiting in anticipation to see the metro sail overhead on the Ambazari lake moored on its embankments.)

But must the city’s only amusement and water park have to make way for it?

We all know that there is an abysmal shortage of recreational centers in the city. Malls like Empress, which came up with much fanfare have come to a tragic pass, like seen yesterday.

Where do Nagpur citizens go in the long summer days and months?

As Brijesh Dixit, M.D. of Mahametro has conceded metro requires very little part of the park for its ‘viaduct’. As little as 5 to 10% of the existing park, including its parking area, which has already been taken over.

Haldiram is one bright spot on Nagpur’s dismal business scene

If our recreation scene is bad, our business scenario is even worse.

MIHAN, Butibori industrial estate have not yielded as many local jobs as anticipated. (Where are the 50,000 jobs promised by Patanjali in the food park?)

In such a situation, can we afford to see almost 550 staff, workers, electricians etc. employed directly or through contractors, lose their jobs if Crazy Castle shuts down?

Anyone who has held a reception for their family weddings here will vouch for how imaginatively the place is lit up for parties.

Crazy castle
“Since two years the specter of losing our park to the metro has been haunting us. And now the worst is about to happen. It is beyond shocking….it is unbelievable” say the Managers and supervisors who run the place.

The people still seem unaware of the happening though.

Will this place be taken away from Nagpurians forever??

When Nagpur Today asked Dr Rakesh Kumar regarding the project about cleaning and rejuvenation of Nag river and ‘Namami Gange’, Indian Government’s ambitious Ganga rejuvenation project, he said that their action plan (DPA) was ready and they had already informed NMC both in written as well as verbal communication.

During the conference, the officials also gave information about about the technologies to be used in the process. They projected that in the first place, the small drainages culminating into Nag river need to be cleaned. If this is done then the need to clean Nag river wont arise, Kumar said.

Dr Kumar, also cited the example of a small rivulet flowing in the NEERI premises from outside. He said that they have been treating the water of this nullah with the help of few technologies. This technology is somewhat similar to floating cycle technology of Futala lake which purifies its water.

Nag River
He said it would be an honour for their institute to implement this technology for Nag river project successfully and to set an example for others about such a successful project in Chief Minister’s hometown.

Dr Kumar however chose to stay mum on the question about ‘Namami Gange’ project. He said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will be able to take the call and explain this in a better way.

Earlier, in an interview, Nitin Gadkari had said that the works regarding ‘Namami Gange’ would be completed by 31 March 2018 and then he would be able to give detailed information with figures.
