Kamble double murder: ACP Supare accused of trying to hush up probe to ‘save’ accused

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Rashi and Usha Kamble Murder
Nagpur: The macabre Kamble double murder case has taken a curious turn as Nagpur Today senior crime reporter Ravikant Kamble, whose mother and one and half year old daughter were murdered on February 17 last, has accused the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kishor Supare of conniving with the accused and tried to hush up the murder case at initial stage for nefarious reasons. “Moreover, the ACP ‘deliberately’ leaked the ‘case diary’ in order to weaken the investigations,” Kamble charged.

Questioning the dubious role of ACP Supare, Kamble met Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham and lodged a written complaint in this connection. He has demanded the top cop to make the ACP co-accused in the double murder case. The demand by Kamble has created ripples in police circle in city.

Currently, the investigation into murders of 54-year old Usha Kamble and one-and-half year old Rashi , mother and daughter of Ravikant Kamble, is being investigated by ACP Rajratna Bansod. During the probe, ACP Bansod made the fourth arrest in the case when accused Ankit Shahu was rounded up.Cops have recovered blood stained clothes of the victims as well as a kerosene can used for burning the evidence. Gold ornaments worn by deceased Usha Kamble have also been recovered from the house of accused.

According to reliable sources, the ‘tainted’ ACP Supare, even before the investigations were completed, himself sought MCR of the accused. The ACP tried hard to prepare documents for MCR even before the end of police custody of the accused. When the ACP Supare was investigating the case, he did not bother to visit the crime spot nor house of the complainant for gathering solid clues. No nearby residents were interrogated for further clues. The ACP should have recorded the statement of the complainant Ravikant Kamble before hand to deal with the accused. All these crucial aspects were ‘deliberately’ neglected by the ACP Supare, the sources said.

Earlier cops had arrested Ganesh Shahu, his wife Gudiya and a minor boy in the case. Ganesh owns a grocery shop in Pawansut Nagar, who had brutally killed Usha Kamble and Rashi by slitting their throats with a tin plate of an oil can. Ganesh had murdered Usha and Rashi on the first floor of his house. In a bid to destroy the evidence, Ganesh along with other accused had packed the bodies in gunny bags and dumped them under a culvert near Durga Layout, behind Vihirgaon village on Umred road.

Sources further stated that even after the accused Ganesh Shahu and his wife Gudiya were sent to MCR, the ACP Supare did not feel it fit to record statement of complainant Ravikant Kamble. The ACP even ‘avoided’ gathering of circumstantial evidence such as half burned pieces of blood stained cloth burned by the accused, ash from the spot and other evidence. The ACP hesitated in seizing the CCTV footage. Ravikant Kamble has allegedly pointed out all these shortcomings in the double murder case probe to the Commissioner of Police.

Now, all eyes are on the action the top cop initiates in this regard.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Reports of many students as well as many ‘unwanted’ elements were staying in hostels of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) illegally had grabbed headlines local newspapers recently. Taking a serious note of the media reports, the RTMNU administration had taken a tough stand and told the ‘illegal’ students and others to vacate the hostels immediately. Has the situation changed or remains as it is? Nagpur Today scribe too rounds of the hostels of RTMNU at Campus and Law College Square.

The visit at Campus hostel revealed that the ‘Warden’ was ‘missing.’ Almost all the rooms of students were locked. The security guard informed that the ‘Warden’ of the hostel never turns up except on Independence Day, Republic Day, birth anniversaries of great personalities et al. The ‘Warden’ shows his face also on the day of new admissions to the hostels, informed some students on the condition of anonymity. It is further learnt that this ‘Gentleman’ (Warden) is originally working in Campus Library and has been given additional charge as ‘Warden’ of the hostel.

The situation at Law College Square hostel is no different. The ‘Warden’ of this hostel was found to have gone out for attending a high-level meeting, informed a clerk. This ‘Warden’ is also found to be holding the post as additional charge. A History Professor in University’s Humanity Department is holding the post. Hence he is present in the hostel only in the evening from 4.30 to 5, the clerk said.

A few days back, a student of the hostel committed suicide by consuming poisonous stuff. The deceased hailed from Yavatmal and was student of BEd course. The suicide sparked tension in the hostel and the ‘heat’ is still being felt by the other students of the hostel. From April 2, 2018, the hostel student is charged Rs 50 additionally for a friend or any other guest who stays in the hostel. However, not a single student in the hostel in ‘authorised’ one but still 380 students are staying in 190 rooms as hostel inmates.

According to the report, the illegal students are those who were denied admission to the hostel. According to sources, the students’ stay is technically illegal and not that those other than the allotted ones are occupying the hostel rooms. Allotment was done randomly but some students want to continue in their preferred rooms so they mutually swapped the rooms.

The building hosting the hostel for Law course students is being renovated. ‘Wi-fi’ facility has also been provided in the hostel, according to the demand of the students. But many students were found using electric ovens in their rooms and thus drawing hefty electric bills. The hostels have a tradition of inmates bringing in their relatives or friends, sources informed.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Beejotsav is an informal group of farmers, people who understand farming, people having deep concerns about farming. Every member doing some or the other thing to conserve nature and ecology is an important member of beejotsav group. Beejotsav is thus a movement by these like-minded people. Indigenous Seeds being the centre part of the concept, the 3-day beejotsav started with worshiping different varieties of Indigenous Seeds.

Amitabh Pawade talked on ill-effects of GM Cotton that was introduced as a better economical alternative for farmers. This year, the production was badly affected by an attack on cotton and farmers could gain nothing. The GM cotton also spreads skin-diseases disturbing not only economy but also health in families of farmers. Now, farmers themselves are demanding indigenous seeds which are not available at krushi Seva centres.

Dr. Shreenivas Khandewale talked not only on the economics but also the education that needs to be introduced in agricultural universities. He stated that if these colleges and universities can impart some technical knowledge about soil, water, seeds to the children of farmers, they will get employment in their own villages. Farmer need not rush to urban technologist to know about his soil, his own seed. He strongly believes that government should come forward with some policies to strengthen the agriculture and allied industries.

The exhibition-cum-sale started from 2 PM. The crowd since then is a result of the spread through social media and the support by all news media, organizers believe. Beejotsav, this year, has 65 stalls with variety of organic and eco-friendly sustainable products. Stall have come from all over india like Chennai, Orisa, Bangalore, Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and areas like Daryapur, Nanded, Nashik, Yavatmal Dist., Nagpur Dist., Pune etc. All the produces are organic and poison-free organizers believe.

Eco-friendly products and presence of Pastoral Community is major attraction this year. The indigenous breed of cattle play major role in conservation of ecology but are far away from urban sensitivities. Beejotsav thus plays major role in filling this gap. Looking at the participation in stalls and the urban crowd visiting the exhibition, Beejotsav seems to be a big success.

The evening slot is also adding special attraction as Beejotsav has included Kalotsav (Art Utsav) for the first time. Sketchers like Ashwin Ramteke and Jitendra Makode were attracting people who wish to sketch their portraits. Sandip Sarathi, Humayar Ali, Swaroop Bhatia and Vinod Vidrohi were the poets contributing in the increased feel-good factor. Kunal Dandekar and Vaibhavi Kolhe entertained the visitors with their Guitars. Ritesh Yadav, Atharva Tapas and Shantanu Bhave were the original compositors who presented their own compositions.

Representation from Pastoral community and Kalotsav were the added attractions of this year Beejotsav.

The visitors treated themselves to the organic or poison-free food items like Lakholi Dal Vade, Nachani Idaly, Mohful Bonda, Gud Jalebi and Suran Fry. The dinner menu was as delicious as snacks items which included Mix Grain Roti, Kulatha Bhaji and Kodo Kheer. Beejotsav organizers appeal visitors to come and treat themselves to these items in next two days.

The Ambadi Sharbat, Kairi Sharbat and Bel Sharbat gave a great relief in the summer of Nagpur.

Anil Ahirkar and Duneshwar Pethe

Nagpur: Picking up the issue of unemployed youths in Nagpur, City NCP President Anil Ahirkar and the only NCP corporator Duneshwar Pethe in a formal talk with media said, the ruling party has failed to keep its promise of providing jobs to youths and suggested some positive ways as to solve problem at some level. Former corporator Vedpraklash Arya and Vishal Khandekar were specially present.

Drawing the attention of district and NMC administrations through the media, they suggested, the unemployeds willing to take up self employment should be registered and the places that are lying vacant or are encroached be given on rent to the youths. They were of the opinion that the hawkers and vendors were unable to buy or hire the place for small businesses. They also said, those not giving the rent from time to time, their registration should be cancelled. Ahirkar informed that while sharing a platform with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, he had raised the issue of unemployeds and had discussed with him regarding self employment. Gadkari had asked him to prepare a proposal and to submit it.

Generating jobs by developing Sukrawari lake
Talking about the Sukrawari lake (Jumma Tank) the NCP office bearers spoke of their bold step to adopt the Sukarwari lake on which NMC has spent crores of rupees but no development was done. They had written to the NMC administration regarding adopting the tank so that it can save the expenses of NMC and the purpose would be definitely fulfilled. NCP or any other concerned organisation could have taken up the task of cleaning, beautifying and promoting tourism to generate employment. But within two days NMC gave orders to sanction Rs 22 crores for various works of the lake which now remain only on papers.

Khau Galli still remains a dream
Plans of NMC only appear on papers and remain there. The fate of Khau Galli is nothing different from other development works of NMC. Had the work of Khau Galli been given to some organisations or institutions the scene would have been different.

Despite spending crores of rupees the traffic system still remains paralysed, they said.

Already the population of Nagpur and rural is nearly 45,00,000 and besides Nagpur attracts people coming from other states due to number of hospital that are here. Barring some hospital many hospitals are looting the patients and playing with lives of people, they opined.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: As the summer peaks at its full intensity, frequent power outages is leaving the citizens red-faced. And the MSEDCL is facing the heat from the fuming consumers. But the main culprit for repeated power breakdowns is Nagpur Metro Rail. Digging of roads and other places without informing MSEDCL is causing damage to underground power cables that ultimately results in power outages for hours. The victims are both – consumers and MSEDCL as well.

On Thursday, the digging work undertaken by Metro hit the power supply to areas near Food Corporation of India (FCI). Around 2500 consumers were in dark from 8 pm as underground cables at Ajni Square got damaged due to digging work being done by Nagpur Metro Rail. As it was not possible for MSEDCL to rectify the fault at night hours, the consumers were provided relief by way of alternate power supply. The cable repair work was undertaken on Friday morning on war-footing and the power supply was restored in full at about 10 am.

Similarly, the Metro digging work hit the power supply as the underground cables were damaged around 3.30 am at Munje Square. A team of MSEDCL’s Sitabuldi office rushed to the site on being informed and carried out repair work. Power supply was restored in the Friday morning itself.

In the past too, several localities have gone without power for hours due to damage to cables by JCB excavators. Earlier, many other departments were the culprits but it is now the Nagpur Metro emerging as main culprit.

As several developments works are being carried out by different agencies such as Metro, Water Supply, NMC, NIT, telecommunications departments. Digging with the help of massive drill machines is going on. This digging work on massive scale inadvertently is causing damage to MSEDCL’s underground cables and thus triggering power breakdowns in many areas.

Facing the heat of consumers, the MSEDCL has urged the concerned agencies such as Metro, Water Works, NMC, NIT and other departments to notify it before carrying out the digging work and avoid power breakdowns.

BJP-ruled NMC tweaks rules, extends service of Siddiqui despite facing departmental enquiry

NMC Nagpur
Nagpur: Tweaking rules for its own benefit and its ‘favourites’ is turning out to be a ‘habit’ for the Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling party on Nagpur Municipal Corporation. And this ‘diehard habit’ has put the party under the scanner. In the instant case, the BJP-ruled tweaked the rules to give an extension to retired Additional Municipal Commissioner Rizwan Siddiqui in the same post. The ‘favour’ to Siddiqui, who had even faced a departmental enquiry that led to stopping his two increments, has raised many eyebrows.

It may be noted that extension of service or appointment of any retired official on contractual basis can be only granted to those who did not face any departmental enquiry or found guilty in DE, according to the rules of Maharashtra Government,.

Siddiqui had faced a departmental enquiry in 1997 recruitment scam when the civic body had appointed 106 employees by bending rules and later all of them were terminated. While under political pressure and high court directives the civic body had regularized 89 of them, the remaining 17 terminated employees recently lost their case in the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court. “In the case, Siddiqui too was found guilty and his two increments were stopped,” said a source.

The ruling party leader Sandip Joshi, on March 20, tabled the minutes of February month’s general body meeting in the House to extend the tenure of Siddiqui as the Additional Municipal Commissioner or appoint him on contractual basis. Joshi was the proposer while Leader of Opposition Tanaji Wanve was the seconder of the proposal. The civic body had already appointed Siddiqui as Director of Special Purpose Vehicle — Nagpur Environmental Services Limited (NESL). Also, various departments — public works, electrical, projects and DPDC– will continue to be under Siddiqui.

Siddiqui, NMC’s first own Additional Municipal Commissioner, retired from the services on February 28. Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal on March 1 gave charge as NESL director and also of some departments to Siddiqui considering his vast experience in the civic body. In fact, Siddiqui had reportedly converted NMC’s clinic in Sadar area as his residence since last many years. Even after his retirement, he didn’t vacate the clinic and is also using the Fire Department’s Manza car.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: In a major action, a squad of Dharampeth Zone of Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Friday bulldozed an illegal hotel constructed at the parking slot of Wockhardt Hospital near Shankar Nagar Square on North Ambazari Road. Acting on the directives of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court on PIL No. 65/2012, the Enforcement Department squad of Dharampeth Zone demolished the hotel built at the parking place of the multi-storied hospital.

Similarly, the Mangalwari Zone of NMC demolished the illegal construction at the parking place of Chhaoni-based Achraj Tower A-B Wing. A fine was also recovered from the encroacher.

Interestingly, the illegally constructed hotel – Bauffage – at Wockhardt Hospital parking was demolished on Wednesday. But the hotel was restarted soon after the squad of Dharampeth Zone left. The multi-storey hospital violated the sanctioned plan and carried out illegal construction in its basement meant for parking. As a result, visitors were forced to park vehicles on the road, thus causing frequent traffic snarls.

Armed with an excavator and a truck, the anti-encroachment squad of the Dharampeth Zone led by Assistant Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Moroney reached the spot on Wednesday. Spotting the squad, the hotel owner assured to vacate the place and sought 24 hours’ time. But soon after the squad left, the hotel started operating like any other normal day.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: As many as 6 children were injured in a fatal mishap early Saturday morning, when a rashly driven truck suddenly lost control on Velahari-Besa road and simultaneously rammed into the 4-5 school vans carrying children to Podar International School located at Ghoghli. Sources said that not only the truck driver was driving rashly but the school vans too were moving at much high speed. Looking at the condition of damaged vans, it can be assumed how terrific the collision would have been.

All the six children have been rushed to Keshav Hospital at Manewada Square. One of the injured kids have been admitted to ICCU where his condition is said to be critical.

The incident has invited public outrage against the school van drivers who have been under radar for their incomplete verification by school authorities as well as their rough driving.

“Many parents have complained to Podar school administration about mushrooming school vans without any trained drivers. But the school authorities had always lent a deaf ear to such complaints and often shrugged responsibility of this transporation off their shoulders,” said a parent whose ward was also on board one of the damaged vans.

The condition of children were said to be stable. However more details are awaited.

Meanwhile, Nagpur Today tried to connect Keshav Hospital but the authorities refused to divulge any details.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: With the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court rejecting anticipatory bail application of BJP leader Omprakash alias Munna Yadav in Yadav clan assault case, the ‘absconding’ BJP leader has no option other than to surrender to cops. Munna Yadav has gone absconding since Diwali last year after a bloody clash erupted between the Yadav clan.

Notably, Munna Yadav is also President of Wardha Road-based Sai Seva Mandal which runs the famous Sai Baba Mandir. As Munna Yadav is absconding and another key office-bearer of Sai Seva Mandal – Secretary Avinash Shegaonkar – was booked and arrested under Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the functioning of Sai Baba Mandir has been crippled.

Since both the President and Secretary of Sai Seva Mandal are facing criminal charges and have been made accused, disappointment is brewing among thousands of devotees. Several devotees have demanded the Charity Commissioner to remove both Munna Yadav and Shegaonkar from Sai Seva Mandal and hand over the reins to other competent office bearers or appoint an administrator.

According to sources, in the absence of Munna Yadav, President of Sai Seva Mandal, the Secretary Avinash Shegaonkar was running the affairs ‘whimsically.’ Frequent wordy duels with priests and other office bearers has become a routine. The atmosphere in Sai Baba Mandir is getting vitiated. Shortcomings in facilities being provided to devotees are being noticed.

A few days back, the Secretary Shegaonkar was booked and arrested under Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on the basis of a complaint lodged by a flower vendor at Sai Baba Mandir, Shivraj Bawankar.

Shegaonkar claimed that Bawankar encroached the space for his shop. A wordy duel had erupted between Bawankar and Shegaonkar. Subsequently, Bawankar had registered a case against Shegaonkar with Dhantoli police accusing him of perpetrating atrocity. Dhantoli police had booked Shegaonkar under sections of Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and arrested him A court however had granted bail to him.

With both President and Secretary of Sai Seva Mandal being accused in criminal cases, the functioning of Sai Baba Mandir has come under scanner.

Mosquito menace in Nagpur, citizens demand relief

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The lack of cleanliness in the city has given rise to the mosquitoes’ problem in city. It is clear from figures of NMC’s Malaria-Filaria Department. The entire city is haunted by the mosquitoes. The drainages and the stagnant waters everywhere have become the breeding places of mosquitoes.

The citizens have been continuously demanding relief from the mosquito menace. The people here have demanded, the city to be cleaned and then the stagnant water places be sprayed.

No doubt, the spraying has started in those areas where the corporators and officials stay. The department has even prepared a list but the spraying is done according to the positions. If the person is at a higher position a big fogging machine is used and for person of lesser position handy spraying machine is used.

The problem with the small fogging machine is that it makes a tremendous noise which the animals cannot bear and start running towards the direction from were the noise comes. Many a times the persons spraying have to run for the life, at such times they have fall on ground too. They have either hurt themselves and the handy machine has gone out of order.

It may be mentioned the spraying done by handy fogging machine is not that effective as the one done by a bigger fogging machine which last longer. There is need for bigger fogging machines.
