Long queues at immigration, and security checkpoints have become a nightmare for passengers travelling to and from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

On Wednesday, many passengers took to social media to raise their plight of inconvenience they were facing at the airport. In December last year, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made a surprise visit to Terminal 3 of the IGI airport in Delhi amid complaints of congestion and overcrowding and also held meeting with concerned stakeholders to overcome the issue.

The passengers complained of three-hour-long queues to get clear through immigration and security at Delhi airport. Frequent passengers travelling through Delhi airport called it a perennial problem.

“This problem is eternal. I have stopped being an optimist when a problem needs to be solved via a politician. Till we have politicians who are interested in garnering media attention, nothing concrete will change on the ground,” said Mohit, a passenger.

Another passenger Manas said, “The worst airport of all time! Not sure who gives them the best award and they flaunt about it … my experiences with Delhi international have always been horrible, the apathy of the officials is even more appealing, blore airport is much better comparatively.”

The passengers were even found complaining about the long queue at the entry to the lounge.

Nagpur: A 15-year-old mother in Ambazari has been charged with murder after she delivered an illicit baby girl at home and killed the newborn to conceal the pregnancy. Senior Police Inspector Gajanan Kalyankar stated that the case was registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code based on the post-mortem report, which revealed that the baby died due to strangulation. The police had initially registered a case of accidental death but later changed it to murder.

According to the police, the girl met a man through Instagram, and their friendship evolved into a relationship. The man then sexually exploited the girl at a friend’s house, resulting in the pregnancy. The girl did not inform her parents about the pregnancy and hid it by claiming to have health issues. She watched YouTube tutorials and planned to give birth at home to avoid detection. On March 2, she delivered a baby girl at home and immediately killed her by strangulation, hiding the body in a box.

It is pertinent to mention that using Instagram account details, the police identified the accused who had sexually exploited and impregnated the victim. The accused was identified as Manthan Dabhne (20), a resident of Subhash Nagar. PI Kalyankar said that Dabhne was a history-sheeter and also an accused under Maharashtra Preventional Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA).

When the girl’s mother returned home that evening and noticed bloodstains, she questioned her daughter and was shocked to learn about the baby’s delivery. The mother then took her daughter to the hospital, and doctors informed the police. The police discovered the newborn’s body and sent it to the hospital for a post-mortem.

The accused’s boyfriend has also been charged with rape for sexually exploiting the underage girl after offering her liquor.

Nagpur: The Enforcement Directorate is carrying out searches at 11 locations across India, including the Nagpur office of the Church of North India (CNI), in connection with a case registered in Bhopal, an ED official said on Wednesday.

ED officials said the searches are tied to a cheating case registered against P C Singh, bishop of the CNI’s Jabalpur diocese.

The office of CNI, a Protestant denomination, located in the Sadar area in the city is being searched, an official said.

In September 2022, Singh had been detained at the Nagpur airport in Maharashtra for questioning after an offence was registered against him.

The case against Bishop Singh was registered in July 2022 after it was alleged that he had indulged in financial misconduct in running an educational society, of which he was the chairman.

Nagpur: While the sudden “makeover” of the Second Capital of the State ahead of the C20 meeting left Nagpurians in awe, many have also raised eyebrows over authorities giving “special treatment” to VIPs and ignoring the plight of citizens.

As the beautification of Nagpur is being done for the G20 delegates attending the C20 meeting in the city, Nagpur Today conducted a poll to seek an answer to the question that is on every citizen’s mind: “Is the facelift of the city ‘permanent’ or just ‘temporary’?”

Furthermore, if the authorities remove the decorations and embellishments (‘ताम-झाम’) after the C20 meeting, wouldn’t it be a waste of taxpayer money?

Rounik Jaisal stated, “Using taxpayers’ money just for the sake of a certain event is not acceptable at all.”

Akshay Raut expressed that if the authorities don’t remove the decorations, they will end up wasting more taxpayer money on maintenance.

Dr Nosheen Riza suggested that instead of temporary solutions, more sustainable options could have been considered.

Rakesh Patle provided a reality check for the NMC’s initiative, lamenting that “To see the real Nagpur, go to Koradi, Nandanvan, Wadi, Mominpura, Dharampeth basti!” as the issues of these localities are being ignored by authorities.

Mustafa Hussain stated that the beautification is just temporary, and authorities never do anything without any special occasion or politician visits.

Nagpur: Just a few hours after reporting how Nagpur’s Seven O’Eleven café had been charging Goods and Service Tax (GST) to their customers illegally, the café rectified their mistake and withdrew the GST charges from the bills.

The incident was reported by a netizen on Tuesday evening, pointing out that the GST number mentioned on the bill was suspended when checked on the GST portal and however, the restaurant continued to collect the GST on the food bills.

Nagpur Today then reported the issue, post which, the GST was withdrawn by the restaurant.

What should be done if a restaurant charges the wrong GST?

Nagpur Residential Hotels Association President Tejinder Singh Renu informed that not only restaurants, no one can collect GST if the number has been suspended and such collections become illegal.

“Restaurants have two options to opt for GST, first is regular GST, wherein GST can be collected in their invoices, and they have to file routine GST returns,” Singh said. He further added that if such a restaurant or anyone adopted a Composition Scheme, they can’t collect GST separately in their invoices. They have to pay GST on their turnover, which in the case of restaurants is 5 per cent.
