Widening of Kelibagh Road brings historical glory of Nagpur into view!

Nagpur: With a rich history of more than three hundred years, the city of Nagpur has many heritage sites, which are now lost sight of due to various problems. During the British period, a British officer mentioned the city of Nagpur as a beautiful city of lakes, temples and gardens. The city of Nagpur, situated on the banks of the River Nag, is still famous for its historical buildings and temples. The rich history of the Mahal area has been brought back into view due to the commercial establishments that have been displaced for the widening of Kelibagh Road in the Mahal area.

After Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) undertook road widening through Central Road Fund, the structures that hid the temples of yester years are suddenly visible much to the astonishment of citizens and heritage lovers. The temples bang opposite Kotwali Police Station depict the history of more than three hundred years. The city was dotted with many heritage sites and record of British era mentions Nagpur as a beautiful city of lakes, temples and gardens located on the banks of the river Nag.

Nagpur’s history is correlated to tenures of Gond King Bakht Buland Shah and Raghuji Bhonsle wherein former built the city of Nagpur while under latter’s rule, it prospered and saw expansion in the horizons of the kingdom. Hence, Bhonsle period and British period structures are widely found in the city. Much of the historical structures got lost with time and what remained was not chronicled and citizens also lost interest, barring few enthusiastic who were passionate about heritage structures.

Nagpurkar Bhonsle Raja built various temples in the then city, now referred to as old part of Nagpur. But crass commercialisation and total disregard on the part of Nagpur Municipal Corporation led to these temples getting obfuscated due to the encroachment of commercial establishments that came during the last few decades. Due to high buildings and shops, establishments, the existence of these temples was almost forgotten. However, as planners pushed for widening of Kelibagh Road, as the commercial properties fell to blows of bulldozers, the ancient temples are now visible in the Mahal area.

A Riddhi-Siddhi Ganesha is an ancient temple adjacent to the protective wall of the Kotwali Police Station situated in Mahal. On the opposite side of this temple is Murlidhar, another ancient temple. Bhonsle’s Muralidhar Temple, Riddhi Siddhi Ganesha Temple, Mahadev Temple, Mahalakshmi Temple, Shirpurkar Ram Temple, Jain Temple were earlier not visible on Kelibagh Road as they simply disappeared behind towering shops. Both these temples are historical and fall under the heritage category and a look at them tells the sorry tale of heritage conservation in the city.

Locals say that these temples are about 3500 years old. Bakabai’s Wada i.e. the present Kotwali Police Station is adjacent to this temple. There is also an ancient temple of Lord Mahadev in the Riddhi-Siddhi Ganesha temple area. Locals also say that there is a Samadhi of Abaji Maharaj here.

Apart from this, there is a Bawdi well, step-well, which is hundreds of years old. It is further claimed that there is a secret door in the temple. The Muralidhar temple was built using black stones and it has artistic carvings done on all sides of the temple. Many idols are carved in stone. Also, there are Mahalakshmi temples on Kelibag Road which are now prominently visible post road widening.

The fraudster Sushil Kolhe also worked as a waiter, covered farmers’ stir in Delhi as a scribe

Nagpur: The master fraudster Sushil Ramesh Kolhe, who was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW ) of Nagpur Crime Branch for allegedly floating shell companies and duping investors of Rs 35 crore by promising them high returns, was also present at farmers’ agitation in Delhi as a “journalist”. He spent about three months with Kisan Morcha leaders on Delhi borders to dodge police. Even though wanted in the fraud case, Sushil Kolhe was not caught even after travelling to many states, according to a report in a local daily.

Notably, on November 7, 2020, the Economic Offences Wing had registered a case against Sushil Kolhe, his brother Pankaj Kolhe and partner Bharat Shankar Sahu for fraud under IPC and MPDA. The accused absconded before the case was registered. Sushil moved the Supreme Court as the Sessions Court and High Court did not grant him anticipatory bail. The Supreme Court also dismissed his plea and directed him to surrender in four weeks.

According to the report, after escaping from Nagpur, Sushil went to Delhi. From there he went to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He started working as a waiter and did some other jobs. In the meantime, farmers’ agitation started on Delhi borders. He went to Kisan Morcha as a journalist. Sushil had an identity card as a journalist of a newspaper. Using it, he pretended to be covering the farmers’ movement.

Journalists from all over the country had come to cover the farmers’ agitation and special accommodation was provided to them by the organisers. The fraudster Sushil Kolhe too stayed in the media camp for three months. He had planned not to stay at one place for three months, Accordingly, he left the media camp after three months, the report said.

EOW seizes assets, freezes 31 bank accounts:
According to the report, the accused Kolhe brothers bought a property in the name of a trusted person with the fraud money. EOW has seized assets worth Rs 4.44 crore and frozen 31 bank accounts so far. It is estimated that over 3,000 investors have been cheated by the accused so far. A large number of people from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are among them, the report said.

The Economic Offences Wing of Nagpur Crime Branch recently arrested the absconding fraudster Sushil Kolhe. A resident of Nimdevi Nagar, Wanjara, Kamptee Road, Sushil (33), his brother Pankaj Kolhe and Bharat Shankar Shahu allegedly had floated AGM Corporation, AGM Digital Ltd, Janseva Mutual Benefit Nidhi Ltd, Sanjay Traders Pvt Ltd, Discovery & Media Family Foods, Sussex Life Project Multiple Marketing Pvt Ltd, Mohd Aslam Haji Munna Miya and other shell companies.

The accused trio invited people to their Civil Lines office and lured them with a promise to double their invested amount in 18 months. They also assured high profits like fund sharing, royalty and bonus in other schemes. To gain the investors’ confidence, Sushil and Pankaj Kolhe had also entered into formal agreements with them. People, not only from Nagpur, but from different cities had parked money in their ponzi schemes. Later, Kolhe brothers and Shahu defrauded the investors of over Rs 30-35 crore by neither returning their invested money nor extending any benefit to them.

One of their victims, Nagendrasingh Thakur from Madhya Pradesh, had approached the then Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh with a complaint during his grievances redressal camp in the city two years ago. Subsequently, inquiries were conducted into the matter and a case under Sections 406, 409,420, 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 3 of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, was registered against Kolhe brothers and Shahu at Sitabuldi Police Station.

Nagpur: Aiming for yet another world record, Nagpur’s celebrity chef Vishnu Manohar will prepare 2,000 kg ‘maha chiwda’ on October 16 to mark World Food Day. With many accolades already under his belt, Manohar is trying to break his previous record of cooking 500 kg chiwda a few years ago.

The chef Vishnu Manohar will prepare ‘Maha-Chiwda’ in a huge 6000 kg kadhai. From Biggest Paratha in 1999 to 3000 kg organic curry in 2019, this is Manohar’s 14th experiment. This ‘Maha Chiwda’ will be prepared using Ram Bandhu Chiwda Masala. The preparation of this famous Indian snack will begin overnight and culminate in an event in front of everyone, said Vishnu Manohar in a press conference.

The ingredient list for this massive culinary endeavour will also require quite an effort, as the cooking oil itself will weigh over 350 kg. The core ingredient, dry chiwda, will tip the scales to over 600 kg along with 100 kg of cashew nuts and raisins. Peanuts, which form the perfect companion to this dry chiwda recipe, will amount to over 100 kg. Curry leaves and coriander weighing 100 kg each will find their way in the cooking ‘kadhai’ which can cook hundreds of kgs at one go. Similar amounts of spices will be mixed with crispy golden fried onions weighing 50 kgs. And there’s bound to be a hot and spicy kick to the chiwda, courtesy almost 40 kg of red chilli powder.

As a Diwali gift, chiwda will be served in special packets of 250 grams to all the attendees and organisations. The chief guests are Kanchan Nitin Gadkari and Amruta Devendra Fadnavis. 6 to 7 chefs will help make this ‘Maha-Chiwda’, said Manohar.

The event is supported by Aakhar Films, Mahesh Travels, Bhumipatra, Chefs Unlimited, Khasiat Bazaar, Cake All Rounder Adventure and Master Recipes. The ‘Maha-Chiwda’ programme is set to begin at 11 am on October 16 at Vishnuji Ki Rasoi, Bajaj Nagar Chowk. “I invite everyone to enjoy the ‘Maha-Chiwda’,” said Manohar in a press conference on Wednesday. Nagpur: With the Diwali festival around the corner, the demand for edible oils is witnessing a steep rise resulting in prices flaring up in the Nagpur wholesale market.

According to a report, within the past 15 days, the soybean oil which is mostly used in households for cooking food has gone up by Rs 250 per tin of 15 kg in the wholesale market. The price rise is attributed to the jump in demand due to the Diwali festival.

According to a trader, every year it is generally observed that during the Diwali festival period there is a big impact on the demand and therefore prices of edible oils tend to move up in the market, he said. In the Itwari wholesale market, the soybean oil is being quoted at Rs 2,200 per 15 kilogram tin, as compared to Rs 1,950 per 15 kg tin in the past 15 days, a rise of Rs 250 per 15 kg tin, the trader said.

Similarly, palm oil is being quoted at Rs 1,700 per 15 kg tin, as compared to Rs 1,650 per 15 kg tin within the past 15 days, groundnut oil prices are being quoted at Rs 2,750 for 15 kg tin, as compared to Rs 2,650 for 15 kg tin and rice bran is being quoted at Rs 2,100 per 15 kg tin, as compared to Rs 2,000 per 15 kg tin during the same period.

While sunflower oil is priced at Rs 2,150 for 15 litre tin, as compared to Rs 2,100 for 15 litre tin, sources mentioned. In retail, the soybean oil packet of 910 gram has increased from Rs 135 per packet to Rs 145 per packet within the past 15 days. It is expected that the soybean oil packet prices will not go above the Rs 155 per litre level as there is ample supplies coming in the market to contain the prices from skyrocketing.

Another factor to keep prices under check would be the arrival of the new produce of soybean in the market by the end of this month. At that time the prices of soybean oil could fall by another Rs 50 to Rs 100 per quintal from the current levels in the wholesale market, reports pointed out.

Parse, who is the social media handler of some politicians, honey trapped some prominent persons, including seven doctors, and extorted about Rs 20 crore from them

Nagpur: The Crime Branch of Nagpur Police on Thursday conducted searches at residence and office of self-styled social media strategist Ajeet Parse, who has been booked for cheating and extortion, and seized three luxury cars and six expensive bikes, including a Japan-made bike costing Rs17 lakh. The cops also sealed the locker and freezed bank accounts of the fraudster, media reports said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Parse, who is the social media handler of some politicians, had allegedly honey trapped some prominent persons, including seven doctors, and extorted about Rs 20 crore from them. As Parse was hospitalized due to bad health conditions, police did not arrest him till late Thursday evening.

An engineering graduate, the accused Parse used to allegedly flaunt his close associations with top politicians, ministers and senior bureaucrats to dupe vulnerable persons. He seemed to have amassed huge wealth through his alleged trickeries, said reports.

Another Crime Branch team conducted a search at his office and allegedly recovered some incriminating documents. Investigators are also verifying the property documents and bank accounts of his family members and relatives. Two days ago, cops had also seized rubber stamps of different police stations, four laptops, letterheads bearing names of various ministers and some cheques.

Parse had been booked after a homeopath Dr Rajesh Murkute filed a police complaint alleging he was duped to the tune of Rs 4.50 crore. The Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar had handed over the probe to the Crime Branch. Yet another person has approached the Crime Branch claiming he had been duped by Parse to the tune of Rs35 lakh, reports added.

Dr Murkute told police that he came in contact with Parse through a relative in 2019. Parse, who allegedly was handling the social media accounts of some political leaders, told him that he had close contacts in the Prime Minister’s Office to get the permission for opening a medical college. He also lured Dr Murkute to get funds under Corporate Social Responsibility for opening the college. After taking Rs 25 lakh from Dr Murkute, he created a fake ID of the PMO and sent a letter to Dr Murkute that funds were released to him. Parse then came to know that he was the guarantor in the loan given by the bank to a customer.

According to police, Parse informed Dr Murkute a complaint was lodged with the CBI against the client. He then forwarded a copy of the fake warrant issued by the CBI on Dr Murkute’s WhatsApp. He told him that the CBI had issued an arrest warrant against him in this case. Parse then started extorting money from him.

The cops have come across strong evidence against Parse for having allegedly duped several persons on the pretext of helping them get employment in Maha Metro and other agencies.

According to reports, NMC deployed tippers and machineries and lifted around 125 MT from black spots, streets etc. BVG did not inform the civic body officials about the strike. The company kept on saying that work would resume soon, but the collection could not happen throughout the day.

As per NMC’s data, BVG has violated the contract by not preventing its workers’ strike on 5-6 occasions since November 16, 2019, when the company was engaged by the civic body. The BVG was

NMC issued a show-cause notice to BVG pointing out heaps of garbage seen across the city due to the strike. The company has been asked to submit a reply within 24 hours as to why action should not be taken against the company. Director of BVG India Ganesh Limaye said, “Wages were released a day ago. It seems there is some issue related to wages of two days. I am sorting out the matter.”

As per reports, NMC has paid BVG India for work up to September. One of the employees of BVG said, “Since the start of its operations, the company has been deducting salary for 2 to 5 days every month. The company has never given any explanation for deducting the salary. The pay cut happened this time also despite the ensuing Diwali.”

Congress City president Vikas Thakre and BJP City President Pravin Datke said NMC administration is responsible for the problems being faced by the people. Resolution was passed by the general body to oust the two operators. Yet, the companies are in service due to vested interest of NMC officials and at the cost of the city and citizens, they said.
