Nagpur’s Rahul Pande appointed as State Information Commissioner

Nagpur: Rahul Bhalchandra Pande, the City Editor in Nagpur’s The Hitavada newspaper, has been appointed as State Information Commissioner in Maharashtra Information Commission. Sureshchandra Gairola and Sameer Sahai have also been appointed as State Information Commissioners.

The Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray recently approved the names of Pande, Gairola and Sahai for their appointment as State Information Commissioner. A notification, signed by the Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, was issued on Thursday informing about the appointments.

Drunkard man stabs wife with vegetable knife in Hudkeshwar

Nagpur: A drunkard man stabbed his wife repeatedly with a vegetable cutting knife and injured her seriously following a quarrel in Hudkeshwar police area on Thursday night. Condition of the woman is reportedly stable.

The victim, Komal Rajendraprasad Shahu (30), resident of Plot No. 30, Pawar Nagar, Hudkeshwar Road, said that her husband, Rajendraprasad Ramkumar Shahu (35), came home under influence of liquor around 10.45 pm on Thursday. He picked up a quarrel with his wife as usual over an issue or another. During the wordy duel, the accused husband picked up a vegetable cutting knife and attacked Komal. He stabbed her repeatedly, injuring her seriously.

Hudkeshwar PSI Pachole, based on Komal’s complaint, booked the accused Rajendraprasad Shahu under Sections 323, 324, 504 of the IPC read with Section 135 of Maharashtra Police Act. No arrest has been made in the case so far.

Aged man ends life in posh Civil Lines bungalow

Nagpur: A 59-year old man committed suicide by hanging in his bungalow in posh Civil Lines area on Wednesday night.

The deceased, Ravishankar Pandurang Nimje, resident of Bungalow No. 18, CPWD Quarters, Civil Lines, was found hanging with the help of a sari around 8.15 pm on Wednesday.

Family members brought him down and rushed him to Government Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead on admission.

Sadar PSI Avhale, based on information, registered a case of accidental death and launched a detailed investigation.

Covid-19: Nagpur reports 8 fresh cases, zero deaths

Nagpur: The Nagpur district on Friday reported eight fresh cases and zero deaths attributed to the Covid-19. In the last 24-hours, eight persons recovered from the virus borne disease.

With the latest update, the cumulative positive cases reached 4,93,172 and the number of deaths stand still at 10,120. The sum of 4,82,983 people have been successfully recovered from the virus borne disease.

The Covid recovery rate of Nagpur district stood at 97.93% while active cases stood at 69.

Nagpur: Nagpur student bags first prize in National Essay Writing Competition on Democracy by Hyderabad based S Jaipal Reddy Memorial Foundation. Mugdha Anand Mundle bags first prize for his essay “Democracy–The Backbone of India and its relevance in every aspect of Governing the Country” and walks away with Rs 25000/- cash prize. Competing with 82 participants, Mugdha Anand Mundle of of Dr Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur stood first.

The winners were announced during the National Webinar on “Celebrating Democracy” organised to mark, observe and celebrate International Day of Democracy. It is the day the United Nations General Assembly resolved to observe every year—to promote and uphold the principles of democracy.

The Second Prize goes to Ankit Datta of Bennett University for the essay Democracy and its Relationship with the rule of law and its challenges. He wins a cash prize of Rs 15,000/- and a citation. Joncy Pravin Lakhani from Parul University is the 3rd prize winner for her essay Authoritarianism soaring-Resistance sprouting. She is presented a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- and a citation.

The Nationwide Essay Writing Competition was organised by S.Jaipal Reddy Memorial Foundation. The foundation started in the loving memory of a former Union Minister and an Outstanding Parliamentarian S. Jaipal Reddy.

The Participants were asked to choose to write insightful articles on any topic under the broad theme of democracy linking its importance in India

The competition was open to all Indian students pursuing Undergraduate and Post-Graduate courses in the fields of Political Science, Law, Journalism and Mass Communication, and International Relations. And are supposed to write essays of 2500 to 3000 words in English

The foundation is planning to publish selected Articles in a print or e-book.

Hon’ble Justice A. K. Patnaik, Former Judge Supreme Court was the Chief Guest and Speaker at the Webinar. Shri Vinod Sharma, Political Editor of Hindustan Times; Prof. K. YouTube pays Nitin Gadkari Rs 4 lakh a month

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in the news yesterday for his inspection tour of the upcoming Mumbai-Delhi Expressway gives away a peek at his earnings.

” In Covid time, I did two things — I started cooking at home and giving lectures through video conference. I delivered many lectures online, which were uploaded on YouTube. Owing to huge viewership, YouTube now pays me Rs 4 lakhs per month,” the minister, known for his plain-speak said.

Gadkari had also said yesterday that that politicians should not create impediments in development works and shared that he had once demolished his father-in-law’s house without telling his wife.

“Many years ago, my father-in-law’s house was demolished to make a road. I did not tell my wife before the demolition. That’s how it should be. Leaders should not be impediments in progress,” Gadkari had said.

Cops arrest truck thief involved in 32 cases

Nagpur: A truck thief accused in 32 theft cases was arrested by Pardi police and recovered a stolen truck from his possession. The accused was identified as Sanjay Govind Dhane (50), a residen tof Plot No. 259, Tarsa, Ramtek.

According to police, Dhane is a notorious truck thief and officially involved in 32 thefts of trucks and other vehicle from Nagpur and other district. Recently, he had stolen a truck of Hariprasad KhayalsinghYadav when it was parked on service road in Kapsi pardi area.

During investigation of the case, the police zeroed in on Dhane and nabbed him from Ramtek area. Under the guidance of DCP Zone V Neelotpal, the arrest was made by PI Manohar Kotnake, API Maruti Shelke, PSIs Sharad Shipane, Deepak Mahadik, ASI Surendra Tiwari and others.

IIT student commits suicide

Nagpur: A THIRD-YEAR student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Varanasi committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling hook at his house in MIDC police station area. The deceased was identified as Pushpak Lalit Sambhe (21), a resident of Plot No. 3, Satpude Layout, Wanadongri.

A police officer informed that Lalit was the only child of Sambhe couple. His mother is working in a spinning mill. Pushpak and his parents had gone to their village on Wednesday. On Thursday morning, Pushpak returned to Nagpur to attend on-line classes of college. In the afternoon hours, he hanged himself from a ceiling hook and ended his life.

As Pushpak was not responding to mother’s call, she asked neighbours to see what happened. They peeped through a window only to find the dangling body of Pushpak. MIDC police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. However, reason behind suicide of Pushpak was not established so far. A case of accidental death was registered by MIDC police.

Man molests ex-wife, thrashes her second husband in Wathoda

Nagpur: Wathoda police have booked a man on the charges of outraging modesty of his ex-wife and thrashing her second husband near Swaminarayan Mandir on Wednesday, September 15.

The complainant (27) told police that her former husband Manish Babarao Miskin phoned her and called her near Swaminarayan Mandir around 4.15 pm on Wednesday. When she and her second husband went to the spot, the accused Manish and his associate Prabhudas Gulab Ramteke (35) started abusing the woman’s second husband and thrashed him severely. When she tried to save him, the accused Manish Miskin and Prabhudas Ramteke indulged in vulgar acts and molested her publicly.

Wathoda police constable Jaipal Patle, acting on her complaint, booked the two accused under Sections 354, 323, 504, 34 of the IPC. No arrest has been made in the case so far.

In another incident, a man has been booked by Mankapur police for clicking indecent video of his own daughter and uploading it on social media.

The 33-year old complainant, resident of Mankapur area, said that his accused husband Alvind Jo Francis (35) clicked an objectionable video of his own daughter and uploaded the video on social media. Thus the accused outraged the modesty of his own daughter.

Mankapur ASI Tumdam registered a case under Sections 354, 354(C) of the IPC read with Section 67 of IT Act. Further probe is underway.

Cong MLA Thakre demands action against NMC boss for collecting unlawful taxes

Thakre submitted a memorandum to Commissioner of Police

Nagpur: The Congress MLA from West Nagpur Vikas Thakre on Saturday submitted a memorandum to Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar demanding penal action against Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B for allegedly cheating cthe citizens by way collecting various “unlawful” taxes since 2017 when the Goods and Service Tax (GST) came into force.

Thakre has demanded action against the NMC boss under Sections 409 (breach of trust by the government servant), 464 and 468 (forging of documents), 471 and 479 (using a fake document as genuine), 120B (conspiracy) and Section 420 (cheating).

The Congress MLA further claimed that since the GST came into force, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation had no businees in collecting various taxes from the citizens. However, thew NMC continued recovering taxes such Advertisement Tax, Local Body Tax (LBT), Property Tax, Water Tax and other taxes.

“As far as Advertisement Tax is concerned, the tax was incorporated in the GST. Hence, the NMC has no authority to collect this tax. But the local body still recovering the Advertisement Tax from the concerned persons in crores,” Thakre charged while addressing a press conference in Nagpur on Saturday.

Thakre has demanded the NMC to return tax money collected unlawfully to the duped citizens immediately.

Covid-19: Nagpur reports 16 fresh cases, active cases at 79

Nagpur: The Nagpur district on Saturday reported 10 fresh cases and zero deaths attributed to the Covid-19. In the last 24-hours, six persons recovered from the virus borne disease.

Out of total cases, 11 cases were reported from Nagpur Municipal boundaries, while four cases were reported from Nagpur rural and one from outside the district.

With the latest update, the cumulative positive cases reached 4,93,188 and the number of deaths stand still at 10,120. The sum of 4,82,989 people have been successfully recovered from the virus borne disease.

The Covid recovery rate of Nagpur district stood at 97.93% while active cases stood at 79.

DMIMS starts online “UGC Entitled Programs”

Nagpur: Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (DU), Sawangi (M), Wardha, secured A+ grade in its third cycle of reaccreditation by the NAAC in the year 2017, for a period of 7 years. By virtue of this grading the university was placed in the elite Category- I by the UGC. In terms of the UGC notification issued on 20th April 2018, the university was granted graded autonomy and thereby the university was entitled to start new educational programs in other domains. The university also had autonomy to start off campus, off shore campus and ODL and online courses.

Availing this autonomy the DMIMS(DU) broadened its academic ambit and launched courses in different faculties other than health Sciences. Currently there are 12 faculties under the ambit of the university, offering 265 educational programs on conventional, ODL and online mode. The off campus of the university was launched at Wanadongri, Hingna, Nagpur with Datta Meghe Medical college as its constituent unit.

The new faculty launched by the university comprise of faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of commerce and management, Faculty of engineering & technology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical sciences, Faculty of liberal Arts, Humanities and Social sciences in addition to previously existing faculties.

The educational programs started under these new faculties comprise of management courses like BBA, MBA. B Com, and under the faculty of Engineering and Technology the B Tech & M Tech courses are offered in the emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence, Data Management, Biomedical engineering and agricultural Engineering and BCA, MCA after due permission from the AICTE.

The New National education policy notified by the Govt. of India is duly incorporated in the educational programs of the university to the possible and permissible extent and the initiatives taken under the same are Multiple entry /exit, Apprenticeship embedded program, Inclusion of Minor/Honours, Inclusion of electives, Inclusion of SWAYAM/ MOOC courses and awarding credits for them. The university has made its own model of Academic Bank of credits(DMIMS Model of Credit bank)for allocation,redemptionand transfer of credits.

Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (DU), Sawangi (M), Wardha is ranked 100th under ‘Overall category’ among Higher Education Institutions , 61st among all Universities, 34th among Medical Schools and 19th among Dental schools in National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2021 out of 6272 applications made by various HEIs across the country. NIRF was launched by MHRD in 2015 to rank Institutions across the country and is approved by MOE. The rankings are based on five generic parameters viz. Nitin Gadkari inspects Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, car clocks 170kmph

Nagpur: Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari recently checked the progress of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which will pass through four states, according to sources.

After starting from Delhi, the eight-lane expressway will pass through Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat before reaching its final destinaton Mumbai. It is likely to be completed by March 2023. The Expressway is being built as part of Phase-1 of the Centre’s Bharatmala Pariyojana.

Source report carried a 90-second video uploaded on YouTube on September 16, in which Gadkari is seen inspecting an empty stretch of the expressway in a Kia Carnival car and was seated in the front passenger seat.

Upon entering the expressway, the car’s speed went up to around 170 kilometres per hour (Kmph), and it was moving smoothly. Though the Livemint report said that top speed on the expressway has been limited to 120 Kmph.

During the video, Gadkari could also be heard saying that a small aircraft could land on the expressway.

Previously, the Union minister had conducted an aerial survey of the expressway and said it will cut travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to 12 hours, adding that it will also help in saving crores of litres of petrol and diesel.

“Once the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is completed and opened for the public, we will get at least ₹1,000-1,500 crore as toll revenues every month,” Gadkari was quoted as saying by news agency on Sunday.

Nagpur: The Nagpur district on Sunday reported 4 fresh cases and zero deaths attributed to the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19). In the last 24-hours, 14 person recovered from the virus borne disease.

While all the four cases were reported from Nagpur Municipal boundaries, Yet again, no cases were reported from Nagpur rural or from outside the district.

With the latest update, the cumulative positive cases reached 4,93,192 and the number of deaths stand still at 10,120. The sum of 4,83,003 people have been successfully recovered from the virus borne disease.

Wildlife Welfare Society volunteers give new lease of life to Python, Cobra in Wathoda, Lihigaon

Nagpur: The volunteers of Wildlife Welfare Society on Sunday rescued a Python (7-8 ft) and a Cobra (5.30 ft) from Wathoda and Lihigaon, new Kamptee.

Earlier, locals had captured a Cobra from the same spot and handed over snake catchers. On Sunday, some found a Python that had reportedly entered the vicinity via sand truck.

Following which, locals alerted Wildlife Welfare Society volunteers Ankit Khalode, Nitish Bhandakkar, Pankaj Badule, Arpit Vitonde and Avinash Khobragade who rescued the Python.

Similarly on Sunday morning, some villagers of Lihigaon had spotted a Cobra at Krishna Bhagat’s field and subsequently alerted Wildlife Welfare Society.

Acting swiftly on the inputs, volunteers Prashant borkar Ketan Deshmukh, and Bablu Mulunde rushed to spot and captured the Cobra in the rescue operation.

Abducted from Chennai, 3-year-old boy rescued at Nagpur Railway Station

Nagpur: A three-year-old boy who was kidnapped by two migrant labourers from Chennai was rescued from Nagpur Railway Station within hours after the missing complaint was filed.

According to police sources a couple Mitheelesh, 26, and his wife Meeradevi, 25, who were natives of Bihar worked in a private company in Ambattur Industrial Estate. They were staying in a rented house in Pattaravakkam with their two sons – one five-year-old and the other three-year-old.

They used to lock their children at their home and one of their neighbours who had an alternative key would feed and take care of them. When the couple returned from work on Saturday evening, they found their younger son was missing.

Probe revealed that two persons — G Shivkumar Noriya, 22, and R Monu Karpidass, 25 — both natives of Madhya Pradesh staying on the terrace of the house where the family was staying, were also missing.

A special team was formed and collected the details of all north-bound trains from the city and spotted the train the two men from MP were travelling in with the child. Police quickly alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Nagpur and shared the photographs and other details of the child and the duo.

A special team led by the RPF inspector nabbed the duo at Nagpur Railway station on Sunday afternoon. The child was rescued from them.

NMC to get world class Olectra electric buses soon

Nagpur: The flagship electric bus, Olectra, has emerged as the No. 1 player in the Indian Electric Bus Industry. The bus has successfully completed four crore electric km on Indian roads with the highest safety standards.

Olectra Greentech Ltd (A Group Company of MEIL), pioneer in electric bus manufacturing, has 1500 bus orders in hand from all major STU’s and completed trials with 40 STU’s. Olectra buses are equipped with CCTV cameras to ensure the commuters’ safety, an emergency button, USB sockets for mobile charging, GPS tracking, Air Suspension and Disc Brakes.

Two youths end lives in Kapil Nagar, Hudkeshwar

Nagpur: Two youths reportedly committed suicide by hanging themselves at their respective houses under Kapil Nagar and Hudkeshwar Police here, on Sunday.

Cops have registered cases of accidental deaths in both the cases and launched investigations into the matters.

A 20-year-old Rohan Rajesh Wasnik was found hanging to a wooden rod attach to sealing using a scarf at his house in Ramai Nagar at around 6.30 pm. Based on the complaint lodged by his father Rajesh, Kapil Nagar Police rushed to the spot and brought down the body.

Similarly, Ayush Dilip Sonare (22), a resident of Shivshakti Nagar ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan on Sunday afternoon.

Based on the complaint lodged by family members, Hudkeshwar Police registered an offence accidental death and probing further.
