Group clash leaves two injured in Jaripatka, six youths booked

Nagpur: Two groups of youngsters clashed a bloody fight over a petty issue in Jaripatka police area here on Monday night. Two youths suffered stab injuries in the fracas. Six accused have been booked in the case but no arrest has been made so far.

On Monday, around 9.30 pm, a quarrel erupted between complainant Lucky Vishal Bhagve (19), resident of Qtr No. 117, Hudco Colony, Jaripatka, and the accused Suraj Suprit Jambhulkar (20), Abhishek Meshram and Rishi Nagdeve over comments on Whatsapp status. When Lucky was returning home, the accused trio attacked him with a knife and stabbed him on his left hand.

The injured Lucky registered a complaint with Jaripatka police in this connection.

However, in the counter complaint, the accused Suraj Suprit Jambhulkar (20), resident of Plot No. 207, Samta Nagar, told police that when he and his friend Rishi Nagdeve were returning home after settlement, the accused Lucky Bhagve, Simon Bhagve and Abhishek Darvade assaulted him and stabbed on his back.

Jaripatka PSI Naikwade, acting on the complaints, booked the six accused under Sections 324, 504, 341, 34 of the IPC. No arrest has been made in the case so far. Further probe is underway.

Burglary at Oneplus store in Nagpur, gadgets worth ₹26L stolen

Nagpur: Sensation prevailed Coffee House Square on Wednesday after Oneplus store was found to be robbed under Ambazari Police Station. Mobile phones and other gadgets collectively to the tune of ₹26,00,000 were prima facie stolen from the store.

According to police sources, the burglary was occurred between the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Some miscreants reportedly broke into the store and decamped with electronic gadgets and other materials worth ₹26 lakh.

The burglary came to fore on Wednesday morning. Following which the staff has alerted Ambazari Police Station.

In the meantime Ambazari Police have rushed to the spot and started the investigation.

16-yr old rape victim ends life in Jaripatka as accused freed from jail

Nagpur: A 16-year old rape victim ended her life in Jaripatka area as the accused was released from jail on bail. The shocking incident occurred in the Jaripatka police area on Monday.

According to police, the girl was living with brother, father and stepmother in the Jaripatka area. Her father is in the transport business. The accused youth is a relative of the stepmother. He used to visit the girl’s place. In June this year, he sexually exploited the 16-year-old girl at her place when she was alone.

The girl narrated the incident to her brother who promptly took her to the police station and lodged a complaint against the accused. The accused was booked under rape charges and sent to Central Jail. He was released from jail on bail recently.

Since then, the girl was scared and depressed. On Monday afternoon, she hanged herself from a ceiling rod and ended her life. The police have recovered a notebook from the room with a note — ‘I made a mistake’.

A case of accidental death was registered by Jaripatka police. Further investigation is on.

Juvenile boy detained for stealing e-rickshaw batteries in Panchpaoli

Nagpur: Panchpaoli police rounded up a juvenile burglar and seized two stolen batteries of an e-rickshaw from his possession. Cops have also recovered a stolen bike.

The police action comes after a complaint was lodged by the e-rickshaw owner Arpan Anil Sahare (30), resident of Plot No. 204, Panchsheel Nagar.

Sahare had informed police that he had parked his e-rickshaw in front of his house on September 8 night.

Around 3 am, Sahare heard some noise and came out. He found two batteries of his e-rickshaw worth Rs 14,500 missing. After enquiry from nearby residents, he lodged a police complaint. Cops registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC and started a probe.

During the probe, cops detained the juvenile bouy on suspicion and interrogated him. The boy spilled the beans and confessed stealing the batteries. Subsequently, cops searched his house and recovered the stolen batteries and also a Splendor motorcycle.

Cops summoned the boy’s parents and warned him not to indulge in such crimes again. After a chargesheet was filed before the Juvenile Justice Board, the boy was handed over to his parents.

The action was initiated by Senior PI Sanjay Mendhe, PI (Crime) Ravi Nagose, API Chandrakant Nikose, ASI Rahmez Sheikh, NPCs Vijendra Yadav, Romesh Menewar, sepoys Rupesh Sahare, Rakesh Singh under the guidance of Zone 3 DCP Lohit Matani and ACP Sachin Thorbole.

Video: Assailants captured chasing Gamchu Lambat in CCTV footage

Nagpur: Mahesh alias Gamchu Namdevrao Lambat the alleged mastermind behind the sensational murder of Subhash Sahu back in September 28, 2011; was hacked to death by some assailants here in Juni Mangalwari area under Kotwali Police on Tuesday night.

In the CCTV footage accessed by Nagpur Today, assailants were caught chasing Gamchu with sharp-edged weapons in their hands.

Gamchu and Nadeem Khan alias Lucky Khan were the alleged kingpin in the bizarre murder of Sahu using cyanide. Though, Lucky Khan was convicted in the murder, lack of evidence favoured Gamchu to evade the conviction in this regard.

Though, the possibility of revenge killing could not be ruled out, cops in the meantime have reportedly rounded up some suspects and probing further in the Gamchu killing incident.

Bawankule, others detained as BJP stages protest over OBC quota issue in Nagpur

Nagpur: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday staged protests across Nagpur district demanding political reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Charging the MVA government of stabbing on the back, the party’s State General Secretary Chandrashekhar Bawankule and hundreds of workers staged a rasta roko (road blockade). Cops detained Bawankule and others for the agitation.

Bawankule claimed that the OBCs were betrayed by the MVA Government. The MVA Government has been squabbling over the political reservation to the OBC community for the last six months. The Backward Classes Commission appointed to collect imperial data was not even funded by the coalition government, he charged. He further claimed that the state government has not effectively taken up the issue of OBC reservation in the Supreme Court.

BJP’s District President Arvind Gajbhiye, State Vice President Sanjay Bhende, Ex-MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, former MLC Anil Sole, Party’s City President of OBC Aghadi Ramesh Chopra, Dharmapal Meshram, formerMayor Nanda Jichkar and others participated in the agitation.

In Nagpur City too, the party staged the agitation at various parts. At Manewada Square, MLC Pravin Datke, MLA Mohan Mate, Ex-MLA Sudhakar Kohle and others led the agitation. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, MLA Vikas Kumbhare, Archana Dehankar and others took part in the protest at Zenda Chowk. Ex-MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, Ramesh Chopra, Anil Sole, Sandeep Joshi, Nanda Jichkar and others protested at Gittikhadan Chowk.Similarly, Ramdas Ambatkar, Avinash Thakre, Prabhakar Yeole, MLC Girish Vyas, Dr. Milind Mane, Bhojraj Dhumbe, MLA Krishna Khopde, Dr Sanjay Bhende, Ramesh Girde, Sajanya Avchat, Pramod Pendke and a number of party workers staged protest at different locations in the city.

Covid-19: Nagpur reports 10 fresh cases, 17 recoveries, active cases at 72

Nagpur: The Nagpur district on Wednesday reported 10 fresh cases and zero deaths attributed to the Covid-19. In the last 24-hours, 17 persons recovered from the virus borne disease.

Out of total cases, five cases were reported from Nagpur Municipal boundaries, while three cases were reported from Nagpur rural and two from outside the district.

With the latest update, the cumulative positive cases reached 4,93,156 and the number of deaths stand still at 10,119. The sum of 4,82,965 people have been successfully recovered from the virus borne disease.

The Covid recovery rate of Nagpur district stood at 97.93% while active cases stood at 72.

Cops bust sex racket at Smile Unisex Salon in Lakadganj

Nagpur: The Social Security Branch (SSB) of City Police raided Smile Unisex Salon in Lakadganj police area and busted a sex racket being operated from there. Cops arrested the owner of the salon and rescued a young girl.

The SSB of Crime Branch received secret information that a sex racket was being operated from Smile Unisex Salon in Lakadganj area. Acting on the tip-off, cops sent a decoy customer to the salon. After he fixed a deal and provided money to the operator of the salon, Sapna Amit Meshram, the latter provided him with a young woman in the salon. Soon, the decoy customer signalled the waiting SSB team led by PI Sharad Kadam. The team raided the salon and caught Sapna Meshram, (32), resident of Bhim Chowk, Jaripatka, for running the sex racket.

According to police, the accused Sapna Meshram had taken a room on rent and was running Smile Unisex Salon. Under the cover of salon, the accused was operating sex racket. Sapna lured poor girls and pushed them into flesh trade.

Cops have registered an offence under Sections 3, 4, 5 and 7 of Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act against the accused Sapna Meshram and put her behind the bars.

The raid action was done by Senior PI Sharad Kadam, PSI Mangla Harde, and other police personnel under the guidance of DCP (Detection) Gajanan Rajmane.

Fire at S S Agencies in Jagannath Budhwari

Nagpur: A major fire broke out at S S Agencies, in Jagannath Budhawari near Bharatmata Chowk on late Wednesday night. The fire was noticed on first floor of S S Agencies – a cosmetic store — situated in a G+1 floor building.

Speaking to Nagpur Today, Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Rajendra Uchake said that the department received fire call at 11.17 pm.

“Following the fire call, three vehicles from Ganjipeth Fire Station, Lakadganj Fire Station and Cotten Market Fire Station rushed to the spot. Fire was brought under control within 30 mins. Perfumes, Deo, and other cosmetic gutted in fire.
Supposed Cause of fire appears to of electric origin,” said the CFO.

Fire was fought under supervision of Leading Firemen Khalid Ansari, Nitin Vaidya, Praveen zade, Dudhiram Shende, Shetrpal and Gabhane.

Cops play role of Good Samaritan, shift mentally ill woman in labour pain to hospital in Nagpur

Nagpur: Lakadganj police in the city played the role of a Good Samaritan in shifting a mentally ill woman in labour pain to hospital. The woman later delivered a baby boy at Mayo Hospital. The mother and child are now doing fine under the care of hospital staff.

It was the spontaneity of the cops deployed on patrol at Ganga-Jamuna area, that saved the life of specially abled woman who was groaning in labour pain on Cement Road connecting CA Road in the early Wednesday morning.Sensing the agony of the helpless woman, the police personnel, including some woman cops, immediately shifted her to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMC&H), commonly known as Mayo Hospital. The woman later delivered a healthy baby boy at the hospital.

The squad of Nagpur Police comprising API Gopika Kodape, MIDC Traffic Zone, API Vishal Mane, WPCs Reshma, Swati, Sonu, Yogita, Pallavi, Shubhangi, Madhu, Sarita, HCs Arun and Yuvraj were on patrolling duty when they noticed a woman in severe pain on Ganga-Jamuna Cement Road. On being questioned on her whereabouts, the women didn’t respond to cops. Following which, cops decided to take her to Mayo Hospital using Patrol Van.

At the hospital the woman identified herself as Uma and informed doctors that she lives near Lalganj Zade Chowk. Acting swiftly on the information, cops launched a search for Uma’s family. It is when they came across Uma’s mother Meera Laxman Dhakate. Meera told cops that her daughter is mentally unstable. As Uma was pregnant, Meera took her to her Lalganj based house. However, on Wednesday morning, Uma sneaked out of the house and came across the cops.

The role played by the city cops is being appreciated in police circles.

Man duped of Rs 65 lakh in Bitcoin investment deal

Nagpur: A highly educated serving youth got trapped in a Bitcoin investment deal and lost a whopping Rs 65.38 lakh in the hope of huge returns. Jaripatka police have registered a case and started investigations.

According to police, the victim, Piyush Ramesh Panchbhai (30), a resident of Plot No 6, New Thawre Colony, Jaripatka, works as Business Support Analyst in Pune-based Accessor Solutions Company. In April this year, he received a link through Instagram asking him to invest in Bitcoin. The link was sent by the woman cyber fraudster named Siya Dang who told Piyush she is based in China.

The thug started chatting with Piyush and lured him with huge returns if he invested in Bitcoin. Subsequently, Piyush invested Rs 65.38 lakh between April 2, 2021 and September 1, 2021. Later, the online fraudsters, including accused Siya, duped him from time to time..

Jaripatka Police booked the fraudsters by registering an offence under Sections 420, 406, 34 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 66(c), 66(d) of Information Technology Act.

Nagpur ranks second in murders, crimes against women in State: NCRB report

City’s public transport, shelter homes are most unsafe for women in Maharashtra

Nagpur: In a shocking revelation that adds a notorious tag to the crime fabric of Nagpur, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in its report has stated that public transport and shelter homes in the city are the most unsafe for women in Maharashtra. Besides, in the serious body offences like murders, attempt to murder scenario, Nagpur has ranked second in Maharashtra. Similarly, in the incidents of crime against women, burglary and others, the city has the dubious distinction of being the second on the chart. Nagpur has also topped in the crime rate per lakh population in the State, keeping behind Mumbai and Pune (in maximum incidents).

With 97 murders in 2020, Nagpur ranked second after Mumbai with 148 murders. Pune was ranked third in the list with 77 murders. The rate of crime of Nagpur per lakh population is 3.9% compared to 0.8% and 1.5% of Mumbai and Pune respectively.

Total 121 incidents of attempt to murder were reported in the city wherein 133 persons fell prey to miscreants. On the contrary, 348 incidents of attempt to murders were reported in Mumbai and 115 incidents were registered with Pune Police.

Nagpur second in crime against women:

A total of 35,331 cases of crime against women were registered across India during 2020, showing a decrease of 21.1% over 2019 (44,783 cases). While Mumbai topped the list of crime against women in the State, Nagpur not only followed the suit but going one step ahead, proved most unsafe for women in terms of molestation incidents as far as public transport and shelter homes are concerned.

Mumbai reported a total 322 incidents of rape with 1.7% rate of crime per lakh population. With 97 incidents of rape, Nagpur was ranked second in Maharashtra touching 3.9% rate of crime per lakh population. Pune trailed the list with 77 rape incidents at 1.5% rate of crime.

In terms of outraging modesty of women, assaults on women and sexual harassment of women, Mumbai has topped the list with 1,507, 680 and 267 (11 incidents at workplace) respectively. Nagpur reported 219 incidents of outraging the modesty of women, 75 incidents of assault on women and 73 incidents of harassment (two being at workplace). Pune ticked 192 incidents of outraging the modesty, 76 incidents of assault and 53 incidents of sexual harassment.

Nagpur reported highest molestation incidents against women at public transport and shelter homes across the State. Total eight incidents of molestation at public transport and five incidents of molestation at shelter homes were reported in Nagpur. Pune followed it with two incidents of molestation of women at public transport. No incidents of molestation at shelter homes were reported in Pune. No cases of molestation at public transports reported in Mumbai, while two incidents of molestation at shelter homes were reported in the State capital.

In a solace of a kind, Nagpur reported 159 robbery cases while extortion/blackmailing cases reported in the city stand at 14. The cases in both the crimes are lowest in the State as compared to Mumbai and Pune. The Second Capital has another notorious distinction in burglaries. With 603 thefts, the city is second in the chart.

Lady doctor robbed of gold chain in Dhantoli

Nagpur: A lady doctor was robbed of her gold chain by two moped borne goons opposite Kalpavriksha Hospital in Dhantoli police area on Thursday night.

The complainant, Dr Apurva Sopan Gupte (30), resident of Plot No. 9, Madhav Nivas, Rajendra Nagar, Hingna Road, was going to her maternal uncle’s house in Chhatrapati Nagar walking around 8.30 pm on Thursday.

As she reached near Kalpavriksha Hospital midway, two unidentified moped-borne miscreants accosted her and snatched her gold chain worth Rs 80,000. Before Dr Gupte could raise an alarm, the robbers fled the spot.

Dhantoli PSI Sonule, acting on Dr Gupte’s complaint, registered a case under Sections 392, 34 of the IPC against the two chain-snatchers and searching for them.

Youth killed as moped hits Sadar flyover wall

Nagpur: A young man was killed as his speeding bike dashed against the side wall of Sadar Flyover hurling him down on the road. The mishap took place on Thursday night.

The deceased, Jeevan Manikrao Jumnake (25), a native of Katol taluka, was working in a Mumbai-based company. Jeevan returned to the city from Mumbai by a morning flight and went to Katol. After spending the day with his family, he came to Nagpur to meet his sister Bhavana Ukey, who stays in Ajni Railway Colony.

While riding his two-wheeler, a Suzuki Access moped (MH-40/AE 7504), he lost control of the vehicle and hit the side wall of the Sadar flyover from Katol Road to RBI Square. He was thrown off the flyover and fell on a car passing-by. Crowd gathered at the spot. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.

Sadar Police registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the matter further.

Visit NMRDA website before purchasing property in rural Nagpur

Nagpur: The Nagpur Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (NMRDA) has asked citizens to remain alert while making property transactions in rural parts of the district owing to rise in fraudulent practices by unscrupulous persons.

Similarly, NMRDA stated that notices are being issued under Section 53 of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act, 1966, to unauthorised constructions under its jurisdiction.

There are reports of unauthorised sale and purchase of plots by fabricating land records and people are restoring to blind purchase but the same is a cognisable offense. In such a case, NMRDA will take action against the unauthorised construction.

Hence, citizens are advised not to purchase unauthorised plots/ houses. The list of approved layouts and properties are uploaded on NMRDA website www.nmrda.org.

Manish Shrivas murder case: Nagpur Crime Branch files 5000-page chargesheet

Nagpur: The sleuths of Nagpur Crime Branch filed 5000-page chargesheet in the sensational Manish Shrivas murder case against dreaded gangster Ranjeet Halke Saphelkar and 11 others before the Special Court (MCOCA) on Thursday.

Besides Safelkar (47), other accused in the case are Sharad alias Kalu Narayan Hatey (41), Bharat Narayan Hatey (43), both residents of Boriyapua, J N Road, Juni Kamptee, Hemlal alias Hemant Lalbahadur Gorkha (48), a resident of Durham Society, New Yerkheda, Vishal alias Ishaq Nandu Maste (35), a resident of Gaddigodam, Nagpur, Vinaykumar alias Golu Dwarkaprasad Bathav (42), a resident of Hansapuri Chhoti Khadan, Shrinivas alias Sinu Anna Anjeya Vinayanwar (47), a resident of Kandri, Kanhan, Ravi alias Chotu Tikaram Bagde (39), a resident of Plot No 13-A, Kapil Nagar, Diwakar Baban Kottulwar (36), a resident of Max Elite Society, Plot No 402, Harihar Nagar, Besa, Shailesh alias Kalya Tilakchand Meshram (25), Chandramani Nagar, Kamptee, Abdul Taj Abdul Aziz (30), and Sheikh Mohtasingh Sheikh Sardar (35), both residents of Chittaranjan Nagar, New Kamptee. Accused Shailesh Meshram, Abdul Taj and Sheikh Mohtasingh are still absconding.

A resident of Laxmi Tower, Kamptee, Ranjeet Safelkar and other accused had abducted dreaded goon Manish Shrivas and brutally murdered him between February 25 and March 5 in 2012. To mislead the police, they tried to name him as an accused in the Monty Bhullar murder case in the same year.

Manish Shrivas was allegedly lured by one Chhotu Bagde on the pretext of some work, to go with him to a desolate place near Kalamna and old Kamptee, where the other accused were waiting for him. The accused killed Shrivas. They then chopped his body into pieces, stuffed them in a sack and disposed of. They also burnt the clothes in a furnace. Ranjeet Saphelkar was the mastermind in Shrivas murder case and also in architect Eknath Nimgade murder case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The IT raid follows CBI, ED raids on former State Home Minister over graft cases

Nagpur: Trouble seems to be mounting for former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh as the Income Tax Department, after the CBI and ED, raided several locations linked to the NCP leader on Friday, according to media reports.

The reports further said that a day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a chargesheet in Deshmukh case, stating that the former Minister and one of his associates had received Rs 20 crore each for reversing one of the most controversial orders of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. According to the reports, a team of Income Tax’s Investigation Wing is carrying out raids on a number of premises linked to Deshmukh in Nagpur.

The IT team descended at around 10 am having covered an educational institution having Deshmukh and his relatives on management board apart from a few offices and residential premises. One of the residences include a posh apartment in Nagpur whose links were also traced to one of Deshmukh’s close associates.

The raids were conducted after suspended Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze alleged that Deshmukh had asked him to collect money from bar and hotel owners, and used to give instructions in high-profile investigations. Waze made the alleged statements during his interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate.
