Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Call it blessing in disguise or befitting reaction, Nagpur witnessed a massive increase in healthcare facilities after the devastating second wave of Covid-19 in the city.

The Covid rage left the district administration helpless in tackling the surge in patients due to lack of required healthcare facilities. However, the concerned authorities swung into action and made concerted efforts to boost facilities. As a result, the number of beds, oxygen beds and ICU beds in hospitals in Nagpur increased eight times this year from 989 beds to 7,730 beds compared to last year. This increase in facilities helped the district administration succeed in bringing the second wave of COVID-19 under control in just one month.

In Nagpur, the first Covid case was reported in March 2020. By April 2020, the number reached 989. The city saw a peak in September 2020 with the number of cases reaching 3,454. But compared to it, the second wave played havoc. The number of COVID-19 patients reached 4,682 in March and 7,632 in April. Despite the spike, there were no deaths due to lack of beds, oxygen and ventilators in city, the district administration claimed.

During the second wave, the situation was controlled with remedies suggested by experts. In April last, there were only 989 beds for COVID-19 patients. With an over eightfold increase, the number reached 7,730 by May 30, 2021. During the second wave, the patients needed oxygen, as most of them complained about breathlessness. In April 2020, there were only 805 oxygen beds in the city. Now the city has 4,810 such beds. Also beds in ICU have increased by 92 per cent in comparison. In April last year, there were only 184 ICU beds in the city. Now, the number has reached 2,314. Number of ventilators in the city last year was 87. There are now 579 ventilators available.

As the second wave of Covid-19 hit the city hard, the need for medical oxygen was felt in massive proportions as hundreds of patients complained of breathlessness. In April 2020, Nagpur had only 58 MT of oxygen supply. Now, the city is producing 160 MT oxygen. Patients from neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh states were also treated in the city.

To strengthen health facilities, focus was on to increase the number of beds in Government Medical College and Hospital, Indira Gandhi Government Medical College. Similarly, recognition of some private institutions as Dedicated Covid Hospitals facilitated admission of patients on time.

The Nagpur Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Ruat said, “We were all worried over Covid-19 situation in the city and the challenges were quite tough. But the team work ensured that the same was also overcome. The only alternative was to increase and strengthen healthcare facilities. This was made possible with the co-operation of official machinery.”

She said that we at LEW have been carrying out the legacy of inspiring lady entrepreneurs by developing a sense of courage, confidence and commitment thereby fulfilling our mission of women empowerment through entrepreneurship.

Shikha Khare, Vice Chairperson VIA LEW, started webinar with the introduction of two LEW members Dr. Shruti Dhabale Thakre of Shrubbery Exotic Handmade Soaps and Priyanka Agarwal of Handicrafts, who shared their respective products and information of their business ventures.

Thereafter, she introduced the speaker Rajeev Aggarwal, and handed over the virtual podium to him. Rajeev Aggarwal started by saying that the business and its principles are same world over although complexity increases with its growth; however, the fundamentals remain the same. He added “When we do social work we do it for charity, when we do business we do it for profits, these are two very different things, we should not mix charity with business and vice versa.” One should run the business with mind and run the house by heart and not the other way to be successful in both. He then shared his ideas by saying successful business is essentially a complex combination of very simple things.

On Business – Basic Concepts, he said Business involves product, market, cost and profit involving persons and quality wherein there is a market, there is a cost, and then there is a profit. There is no role for emotions in the business; it should be with passion as passion brings dedication with right attitude. Success takes time one should have patience and work discipline.

On Basics rules or fundamentals – he said we have to promote the lady entrepreneurs who form half of the population and can do excellent business as they have unique business acumen. Business is like a tree which gives fruits after certain time so one should have patience and never lose the required courage to achieve the target. The person involved in business has to become the master of the product and should have the entire product knowledge which is very important. One should know the product details to the highest and its unique selling points to gain confidence before knowing the competition involved.

On Improving market, he said brochure is the starting point of your relationship with the customer on which you should mention the USP – unique selling point of the product, put a picture of your product, ‘as a picture is worth a thousand words’, and make your product appear different. Price the product attractively, catch the attention of the prospective customer and promise the service which is deliverable.

On Marketing issues, he emphasized on quick response on adaptability of the customer changes, belief that your product is the best and not to look for profits from the day one instead look for investment. Further, one should negotiate with clients very hard, use innovations in pricing to make it attractive and competitive as well. One should give trust to gain trust and said small-small things have big-big impact, he added.

On Customer satisfaction, he said the customer is king, listen to the customer with patience and fulfill their needs. ‘If you understand customer need, then when you make an offering, it will strike bull’s eye’.

On Costing and profits, he said negotiate very hard, get all your inputs cheap, put your indirect cost and overheads at low, then add your expected profit margin and come to the sale price. Start the business with low profit; don’t try to make profits in the first shot. You have to target your product for different markets by pricing it differently, packaging it differently, offering it differently.

Lastly, he summarized by saying market is full of competition but still new brands succeed, you have to honour your commitments as a mark of professionalism, you must be total master of your product, success and profit takes time, don’t be greedy, customer is king, understand decision making matrix of the customers and your business mantra should be quality, quality and quality and success mantra should be dedication and perseverance.

Maha FDA books 133 persons for illegal sell of Covid-19 drugs, 8 plaints in Nagpur, 4 each in Mumbai, Pune

Nagpur: In a shocking revelation that came to fore, the Second Capital of the State has topped in complaints filed regarding the black-marketing of Covid-19 drugs, beating cities like Mumbai and Pune. The information was shared by the State Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in an affidavit filed in the Bombay High Court. The FDA has registered the highest — eight — police complaints in Nagpur and four each in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune.

Cracking down on the miscreants involved in the black-marketing of drugs used in Covid-19 treatment, the FDA has filed police complaints against 133 persons across the state in the last few months. The cases pertain to the illegal sale of Remedisivir, Tocilizumab and other injections.

The FDA provided this information in an affidavit filed in the Bombay High Court in response to a petition claiming that the state was not taking action against those involved in the black-marketing of these drugs.

There was a shortage of Remedisivir injections in the state in April and May. Thus, the Union Government had taken control over its distribution across the country while stopping its availability in medical stores. During this period, the hospitals were asking the relatives of the patients to procure the injections on their own.

This led to some elements taking advantage of the situation by indulging in black-marketing of Remedisivir and Tocilizumab. The FDA was working with the state police to check the black marketing of the drugs.

A total of 44 incidents of black-marketing were registered with police with 133 persons across the state were booked for illegally selling the injections to needy patients. Most of the offences were for illegal selling of Remdesivir injection while two offences were registered for selling Tocilizumab injection.

Most cases pertain to the sale of these injections without prescriptions, non-issuance of bill, without the seller having the necessary license, or selling them at a higher price than MRP. The police have seized injections worth Rs 55 lakh, a few mobiles, motorbikes and cars from the accused.

NCP’s Abha Pande exposes Covid funds scam in NMC

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The newly appointed Nationalist Congress Party’s State General Secretary and an independent Corporator Abha Pande has claimed a scam brewing in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) regarding funds received from Central and State Government for purchase of medical equipment and other logistics for treatment of Covid-19 patients in Nagpur.

The NCP leader further said that the documents obtained by her show the NMC paid over Rs 11,990 each for an infrared thermometer from one firm while it procured similar equipment for Rs 1680 a piece. The NMC purchased pulse oximeters for Rs 5000, Rs 1445, Rs 1792, and Rs 2400 each though it could procure it for Rs 595 only, Pande alleged.

“Moreover, the funds from the Central and State Government were meant specifically for dealing with Covid-19 pandemic but the civic body used the funds for purchasing anti-rabies injections. Thus the administrative officials misused their position and indulged in financial irregularities. When the information was sought under the Right to Information Act, the NMC officials resorted to hiding their mistakes by providing misleading information,” Pande claimed.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Pande claimed to have exposed irregularities in NMC’s Health Department while spending money received under State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) and National Health Mission (NHM).

Pande said the Health Department provided information only regarding Rs 5.28 crore expenditure. “Out of this amount, I have figured out fraud of Rs 1.50 crore. This could be just a tip of iceberg while the magnitude of financial irregularities could be much higher,” the NCP leader claimed and added the civic body procured PPE kits for Rs 840 each whereas the private hospitals in Nagpur procured the same for just Rs 500.

The NCP General Secretary further claimed that despite being Covid positive, the then NMC’s Health Officer DrYogendra Sawai signed many files and sanctioned purchases. “The Covid positive patients should have been in home isolation as per guidelines. Then how did Dr Sawai sign the files? questioned the leader.

“Moreover, only one bill was cleared from two funds – SDRF and NHM funds. The RTI reply points out the purchase proposal and work order without date. Different heads of departments signed the files on the same date and thus exposed the irregularities,” Pande stated.
