Duronto Express derails

Nagpur: Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has shifted Mumbai bound Duronto Express to Ajni Railway Station. A notification was issued by Deputy Chief Operations Manager (Coaching), on behalf of Chief Passenger Transport Manager (CPTM), Central Railway. The reason for shifting Duronto to Ajni was cited as need to decongest Nagpur Railway Station. Divisional administration had put up proposal before Principal Chief Operations Manager (PCOM), Central Railway, seeking his approval for shifting of Duronto and cited multiple reasons.

As per the notification, 12289/12290 Mumbai-Nagpur Mumbai Duronto Express would operate for next three months from Ajni Railway Station. The station is being developed as Satellite Terminal to decongest Nagpur station. The train would depart from Platform No. 1 at Ajni and same has been spruced up by the Divisional Railway administration.

Due to ongoing development work on Platform No. 1 and on adjoining Goods line, Duronto was already operating from Ajni Station. Extra jawans of Indian Railway Protection Force Service (IRPFS) are deployed at time of departure and arrival of Duronto to ensure passengers do not face any inconvenience. Also 25 coolies are deployed at Ajni to facilitate haulage of luggage for travellers.

Confirming the development, S G Rao, Assistant Commercial Manager, and divisional spokesperson, said as the time of Duronto and Sewagram was clashing problems arose on operations front. Duronto is stabilised and managed at Ajni Washing Depot and hauling it to Nagpur station resulted in congestion. He further informed that with shifting of Duronto, additional arrangements are put in place, like additional lighting on either of the foot over-bridge. A concrete ramp is also constructed at Nagpur end for convenience of physically challenged persons.

As per information, at time of departure of Duronto Express from Nagpur Railway Station the entire signals system till Khapri are needed to put on Green mode as it runs at maximum permissible speed. This puts operations of other trains in trouble, especially Sewagram, Kerala and other major trains that either arrive or depart from Nagpur Station.

Nagpur: Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) has strongly opposed MSEDCL’s power tariff hike petition and said the tariff hike for some type of industries will hit them hard.

In its submission before Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), VIA said the hike for low tension (LT) having load below 20kW will be more than 40%.

The public hearing on the petition will be held on Tuesday.

VIA has objected to several aspects of MSEDCL’s petition. One of them is the proposal to introduce KVAH billing.

VIA said the methodology of calculation of fuel adjustment cost (FAC) will affect them.

It has demanded that MSEDCL levy FAC on the basis of the extra cost incurred that month and not pertaining to three months ago. This upsets the economics of industries.

MSEDCL has proposed sharp hike in demand charges. VIA has pointed out that this will sharply increase the tariff of industries working in one or two shifts.

MSEDCL’s proposal to levy astronomical grid support charge (GSC) on solar rooftop consumers has been strongly opposed. VIA has pointed out that if proposed GSC rates are levied solar power will become costlier than MSEDCL power. This is against the central government’s policy of promoting renewable energy.

Mid day meal glitch : NMC awaits report to action against BJP leader Roopa Rai’s SHG

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Days after 32 students of Marotrao Mude High School at Hudkeshwar suffered symptoms of food poisoning after consuming mid-day meal and had to be rushed to the hospital, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has suspended mid-day meal (MDM) contract of concerned women self-help group (SHG) Shagun Mahila Bachat Gat, Ramdaspeth, for 43 schools under it.

The self help group is run by Roopa Rai who is BJP corporator and also Nagpur’s BJP vice-president. Rai’s social media profile also reads her designation as President, Shagun Mahila Audyogik Sahakari Sanstha Maryadit, under which the said SHG is being run.

However, the social activist group RTE Action Committee run by Shahid Sharif has questioned the inaction by Hudkeshwar police despite directives by home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
The NMC has only suspended its contract for supplying mid day meal in 43 schools, however no other action has been initiated for the quality of food.

Only contract suspension?

Meanwhile, the NMC is awaiting the report of food samples collected by Foods and Drug Administration (FDA) to take any further action against SHG. While suspending the contract, the NMC education officer Priti Mishrikotkar also issued a letter to The Akshaya Patra Foundation for supplying mid-day meal to all schools served by the SHG. FDA took samples of food and water at around 5 pm on Friday and yet to submit report.

Who are cops protecting?

While NMC waited for the food samples Sharif has alleged that Hudkeshwar police has neither sent the food samples for testing nor took any action. However, the Hudkeshwar police were to send the samples for chemical analysis on Monday, no update came till the time of filing the report. Sources have alleged that the cops were trying to delay the matter in view of the Rai’s involvement in the case. Sharif claimed that according to Juvenile Justice Act, it is mandatory on the authorities concerned to take action in such cases within 24 hours. It is a serious lapse on the part of authorities.

Series of irregularities

Meanwhile, the parents have alleged that FDA has pointed out various irregularities in the inspection. They even claimed highly unhygeinic food being served to the students. RTE Action Committee had on February 7 lodged a complaint against the Shagun Mahila Bachat Gat for the alleged irregularities under schedule (4) of FSSAI act, in serving the mid-day meal. However the police have not made any move since then, sources reported. As per the directory, the SHG was not following required parameters for cooking the food. There was no report on the conditon under which the food was being cooked. The NOC from NMC’s Health Department was also missing.

MDM Superitendent also at fault!

Prima facie the functioning of Superitendent of Mid-Day Meal (MDM) programme Gautam Gedam’s has also come under scanner as the irregularities clearly highligh that no inspection of schools serving mid-day meal was done.

Nagpur: From next year, your hunt for 24 carat jewellery could end in vain. Jewellers will not be able to sell jewellery by this carat. Though, they will be able to buy the customer’s 24 carat jewellery. A decree to this effect has been issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The bullion traders of the city are said to be worried about this decree. It is reported that under the new rule of BIS, the sale of jewellery of 24, 23 and 20 carats is going to be banned.

This ban will be strictly applicable from January 15, 2021. After this, jewelers will not be able to sell jewellery in carats. There is a strong fear of bullion trade being affected by this. What is the order of BIS after all? Lets know from the experts of the bullion world.

Speaking to Nagpur Today, the Rokde Jewellers authority informed, “BIS had previously categorized five different carat jewellery for hallmarking. These included 14, 18, 20, 22 and 23 carat jewellery. There was no mention of 24 carats in it. A year and half after this, BIS amended the rule and made a new rule for hallmarking for 14, 18 and 22 carat jewellery. Since the licensing of Hallmarking and BIS was optional many jewelers were also selling 20, 23 and 24 carat jewellery without hallmark. But now, when selling jewellery of 14, 18 and 22 carat, weighing more than 2 grams, their hallmarking will be mandatory. Also, it will be mandatory for bullion traders to get BIS license.”

While Kothari Jewellers informed, “A year has been given to implement this new decree, which came into force from January 15, 2020. In this one year, jewelers will have to either sell their stocks of 20, 23 and 24 carat jewellery or they will have to melt the gold into a hallmark 14, 18 or 22 carat.
