Nagpur: Congress Corporator from Prabhag 20 Ramesh Punekar raised banner of rebellion against the party and decided to fight Assembly election from Nagpur Central constiuency as an Independent candidate. He will file his nomination papers on Friday, October 4.

Accusing the Congress party of heaping injustice on Halba community, Punekar said that the party will be punished by the community. “Entire Halba community will not vote for Congress candidates in Vidarbha,” Punekar declared.

Nagpur: Congress candidates Vikas Thakre, Girish Pandav, and Bunty Shelke on Thursday filed their nomination papers for Nagpur West, Nagpur South and Nagpur Central constituencies respectively for Assembly elections.

Vikas Thakre has been pitted against BJP’s Sudhakar Deshmukh in Nagpur West while Girish Pandav will take on Mohan Mate of BJP in Nagpur South. Bunty Shelke will fight BJP’s Vikas Kumbhare in Nagpur Central constituency in the State Assembly polls slated to be held on October 21.

The three Congress candidates reached the Collectorate in a procession accompanied by large number of supporters.

Man murdered, body dumped in a farm in New Kamptee

Nagpur: An unidentified man was stoned and stabbed to death and his body was dumped in a farm in New Kamptee area on Wednesday afternoon. Some accused, who have also not been identified, murdered the man and disposed of his body with the intention of destroying evidence. Cops have launched investigation to establish identity of the deceased as well as the accused killers.

According to New Kamptee police, body of the unidentified man was found thrown into farm of Raju Munnaji Khade at Ghorpad around 3.15 pm on Wednesday. The man was stoned and stabbed to death by unidentified persons somewhere else and body dumped in the farm with the motive of destroying evidence. On being informed, a team of cops reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

New Kamptee Assistant PSI Shirsath, based on a complaint lodged by NPC Atul Baliram Rathod, has registered a case under Sections 302, 201 against the unidentified accused. A probe has been launched to establish identity of the deceased as well as accused killers.

Nagpur: Husband, in-laws of a woman, who ended her life by jumping from third floor of a building in Hudkeshwar, have been booked for abetting her suicide over money demand.

A resident of Plot No. 304, Building No. 1, Anand Vihar, Hudkeshwar, Sonali Amardeep Rangari (30) had ended her life by jumping from third floor of the building where she was residing on Monday, September 30. Cops at that time had registered a case of accidental death and launched a probe from all angles.

During the probe, it came to the fore that accused husband Amardeep Bhalchandra Rangari (32), father-in-law Bhalchandra Rangari, mother-in-law Satva Bhalchandra Rangari and sister-in-law Sakku, native of Akola, frequently tormented Sujata mentally and physically and demanded her to being money from her parents. Fed up with the torture, Sujata committed suicide on September 30 by jumping from third floor of the building.

Hudkeshwar API Naik, based on probe report and a complaint lodged by Babinanda Namdeo Patil (53), mother of deceased and nativre of Navi Mumbai, booked the accused under Sections 304(B), 306, 498(A), 34 of the IPC. Further probe is underway.

Nagpur: MIDC police have booked two men for exploiting a woman sexually and abetting her suicide. The deceased Sujata Manish Nath Paharva (29) had committed suicide by hanging to roof hook at her residence in Amarnagar, Ward No. 1, MIDC on September 27, 2019 morning. After registering a case of accidental death, MIDC police had launched a probe.

During the investigation, Manish Purshottam Nath (29), husband of the deceased Sujata, and native of Seoni (MP), informed police that the two accused Vinay Nath and Durgesh Nath, both natives of Seoni, were delivering milk at Sujata’s house when she was living in Seoni.

As such they got acquinted with Sujata. But the two accused took advantage and exploited Sujata sexually. From that day, she was in trauma. Fearing defame, Sujata, who residing separately from her husband at Amarnagar, MIDC, committed suicide on September 27, 2019.

MIDC API Hattigote, based on probe report and a complaint lodged by Sujata’s husband Manish Nath, booked the two accused Vinay Nath and Durgesh Nath under Section 306 of the IPC. Further probe is underway.

NHAI undertakes ‘Shramdan’ for plastic free highways

Nagpur: Officials and employees of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Nagpur office, undertook ‘Shramdan’ on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti as part of an ambitious drive against Single-Use Plastic and making national highways ‘Plastic free highways.’ The ‘Shramdan’ was undertaken at University Campus near Futala Square.

The NHAI officials and employees collected plastic waste during the ‘Shramdan’ under Swacchata Hi Seva Abhiyan. Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Debadwar, NHAI’s Nagpur Division Superintending Engineer Naresh Borkar were present on the occasion. Teams of NHAI also undertook ‘Shramdan’ Amravati National Highway. Debadwar administered Swacchata pledge to the participants of Shramdan and also planted trees along the national highway.

The Coal India subsidiary CMPDI Regional Institute-4, under the leadership of Regional Director Rajesh Kumar ‘Amar’ took out a Swacchata rally to mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. The rally was part of Swacchata Hi Seva Abhiyan and was taken out from Jaripatka, Kasturba Nagar office of CMPDI Regional Institute-4. The rally gave message of not to use single use plastic following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call on Independence Day.

Officials and employees of CMPDI collected plastic waste and put it on jute bags for disposal later. The institute appealed citizens not to use single use plastic bags.

Paying tributed to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary, Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) Nagpur office celebrated Swacchata Diwas. The officials and employees of CGWB incluiding Nagpur office head Dr P K Jain took pladge to make India plastic free. Dr Jain declared CGWB premises ‘single use plastic free.’ Executive Engineer Kalyan Jatav and other senior officials undertook ‘Shramdan’ for three hours in Civil Lines area and S S Building and collected plastic waste.

The Programme Director Dr Rajani Kant Sharma informed that 95 lakh tonnes of plastic waste is generated in the country every year. Out of this, 38 lakh tonnes plastic waste finds place in rivers, nullahs and vacant lands. Plastic waste is hazardous not only for environment but also for health of humans, he stated.

Nagpur: Mecosabagh Navratra Durga Utsav Mandal, Sindhi Colony, Kadbi Square, has installed idol of Goddess Durga in a mountain-shaped pandal with the theme of ‘Mountain Land.’ The Mandal has also instyalled idols of Mansa Devi, Renuka Devi and Tanot Maa. Atop the mountain, idol of Lord Ganesh has been installed.

Mandal is organising Maha Prasad daily. A tableu of Lion and stream has become attraction along with the digital screen graphics. Devotees throng the pandal for darshan of Goddess Durga and witness beautiful pandal.

Havan puja has been organised on Maha Ashtami on October 6 and Jagran on October 7. Visarjan of Goddess Durga idol will take place on October 9. Garba Raas is also being organised by Mandal.

CR’s Nagpur Division becomes first to advertise in all types of mobile assets of Railway

Nagpur: The Nagpur Division of Central Railway became the first Division in Indian Railway to award contracts to brand all types of Mobile Assets of Railway Today by awarding contracts to M/s Shaan Creations, Nagpur for Branding Two Passenger Trains having primary maintenance at Ajni Depot allotted to the Division by the Central Railway for Tenders.

These two trains shall generate Rs 37 lakh over a contract period of 5 Years. Earlier, Nagpur Division awarded successful contracts to brand Goods Train & 05 WAP 7 type locomotives hence it is the only Division now to brand all type of Mobile Assets of Railway (i.e Rail Engine, Goods Train Wagons, passenger train coaches).

The Nagpur-Amla-Chindwara & Nagpur-Amaravati-Bhusawal Passenger shall be displayed with commercial advertisement by pasting RDSO standard Vinyl pasting below window level by M/s Shaan Creations under this contract for a period of five years. Krishnath Patil, Sr. DCM, Nagpur formally handed over the ‘Letter of Acceptance’ to Deepak Raut of M/s Shaan Creation in presence of Vijay Thool, ACM(Cog.) and Tara Prasad Acharya, CI(NFR).

It is pertinent to mention here that Nagpur Division is leading in India in generating Non Fare Revenue by proactive and Innovative approach. The Division led by Shri Somesh Kumar, DRM NGP-CR also crossed the Mobile Assets Target in Non Fare Revenue of Rs 16 Lakhs in Financial Year 19-20 set by the Central Railway in just 6 months of the financial year.

Nagpur: The third list of candidates declared by the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) clears the way for Mallikarjun Reddy and Parinay Phuke, who will represent Ramtek and Sakoli constituency respectively.

The document released by BJP office on Thursday evening also state that Kashiram Pawara will represent Shirpur (ST) constituency while Ramesh Singh Thakur will be the party’s candidate to represent Malad West.

Nagpur: The Congress on Thursday named 17 more candidates for the Maharashtra assembly elections, taking to 140 the total number of party nominees it has announced for the elections to the 288-member assembly. Cong fields former BJP MLA Ashish Deshmukh against as its candidate from Nagpur South West seat against Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Among the new names in the fourth list released by the party is Sushil Amrutrao Rane from Kankavli after its MLA from there Nitesh Rane joined the BJP.

The Congress also replaced two of its candidates.

Elections in Maharashtra will be held on October 21 and results will be out on October 24.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will lead the group of BJP candidates from Nagpur while filing nomination papers for the assembly elections on Friday.

Fadnavis, along with sitting (total five) MLAs Sudhakar Deshmukh (West-Nagpur), Dr Milind Mane (North-Nagpur), Vikas Kumbhare (Central-Nagpur), Krishna Khopde (East-Nagpur), and former MLA Mohan Mate, who re-enters electoral field (South-Nagpur) after a span of 10 years, will file their papers on Friday – the last day of filing nominations.

Fadanvis and others will start their procession from RBI square and reach the collectorate by noon, party sources said.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Thursday fielded former BJP MLA Ashish Deshmukh as its candidate from the Nagpur South West seat against Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The name of Deshmukh, who is a strong supporter of the demand for a separate state of Vidarbha, was announced in the list of 19 candidates finalised on Thursday night.

On Friday which is the last day to file nominations for the upcoming assembly polls, Devendra Fadnavis headed towards collector office to file papers as BJP candidate from Nagpur South West Assembly constituency. His rally to the collector office was nothing short of massive display of party’s strength as the party workers gathered in huge numbers, sporting the t-shirts with ‘main bhi Devendra’ printed on it.

A huge mass of party workers reached Samvidhan Square at 10 am along with Fadnavis and paid respects to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar before proceeding to Collector’s office to complete the process.

Talking to Nagpur Today Sandeep Joshi, ruling party leader in NMC, exuded confidence that Fadnavis will win with thumping majority of votes. He also said that the party workers are filled with renewed enthusiasm and this will clearly reflect in party’s victory in upcoming assembly polls.

Congress has fielded BJP rebel Ashish Deshmukh against Fadnavis.

The other candidates Sudhakar Deshmukh (Nagpur West), Dr Milind Mane (Nagpur North), Krishna Khopde (Nagpur East), Mohan Mate (Nagpur South) and Vikas Kumbhare (Nagpur Central) will also file papers.

Old woman knocked dead by Jeep in Lakadganj

Nagpur: An old woman was knocked dead by a speeding four-wheeler in Lakadganj area here on Thursday afternoon. The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled the spot fearing angry reaction from nearby people.

A resident of Plot No. 363, Babulvan Masjid Line, Garoba Maidan, Damayanti Santosh Bavangade (65) left home around 4.30 pm on Thursday walking. While she was crossing the Gangabai Ghat Road near Shitala Mata Mandir, a Jeep (MH-05/E 0105), being driven recklessly, hit Damayanti hard and injured her critically. She died on the spot before medical help could be extended to her. After the mishap, driver of the Jeep reportedly fled the spot fearing angry reaction from nearby people.

Lakadganj Assistant PSI Sanjay Khobragade, based on a complaint lodged by Pratiksha Rajendra Chaudhary (21), booked the unidentified driver under Sections 279, 304(A) of the IPC and searching for him.

Nagpur: In a last minute move, Jyoti Chandrashekhar Bawankule has filled her nomination from Kamptee constituency for State Assembly elections to be held on October 21.

Jyoti Bawankule filed her nomination papers at the office of Deputy Collector who is also the Returning Officer for Kamptee Assembly constituency. Friday, October 4, was the last day for filing nomination papers for the October 21 poll.

Nagpur Rural BJP President Dr Rajiv Potdar and other party leaders and workers accompanied Jyoti Bawankule during filing of nomination. Dr Potdar himself is BJP candidate from Saoner constituency.

Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis files his nomination from Nagpur South West. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also present.

Before he left for filing the nomination papers, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his wife Amruta sought blessings of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and his wife Kanchan.

The Congress has fielded former BJP MLA Ashish Deshmukh as its candidate from the Nagpur South West seat against CM Devendra Fadnavis. Assembly elections will be held in Maharashtra on October 21.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP on Friday released the fourth list of candidates for the upcoming assembly election and dropped top party leaders Vinod Tawde, Prakash Mehta and Eknath Khadse.

With this, the final seat-sharing formula between BJP and Shiv Sena has also been finalised. BJP will be contesting on 150 seats while Shiv Sena will contest on 124 seats and other allies will get 14 seats.

Nagpur: Congress candidates Dr Nitin Raut, Ashish Deshmukh and Purshottam Hazare filed their nominations for Nagpur North, Nagpur South-West and Nagpur East constituencies respectively for State Assembly elections to be held on October 21. Today (October 4) was the last day for filing nomination papers.

Dr Nitin Raut will fight it out with his main rival, BJP’s Dr Milind Mane, in Nagpur North (SC) seat. Ashish Deshmukh will take on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the prestigious Nagpur South-West constituency while Purshottam Hazare has been pitted against BJP’s Krishna Khopde in Nagpur East seat.

Nagpur: Jaripatka police have booked a group of eight vandals for creating ruckus in the area on Thursday night. The accused damaged cars, pelted stones at travel office near Mahalaxmi Apartment and also thrashed a man who was passing by.

In his complaint, 25-year-old Oshin Amar Godani, a resident of Plot. No. 167, near Janta Hospital, told cops that he had gone to have juice on Thursday night when he found a group of 7-8 men armed with sharp weapons and wooden sticks damaging cars, pelting stones at Happy Journey Tours and Travels shop near Mahalaxmi Apartment. The unidentified accused also reportedly broke the CCTV cameras and the glasses of the vehicles parked nearby. When the miscreants found Oshin passing by, they stopped him and thrashed him with wooden sticks. When he tried to flee the spot, the accused chased him and hit him his back with wooden rods.

Based on the complaint filed by Oshin, Jaripatka police have booked the unidentified accused under Sections 143, 147, 149, 324, 427 of the IPC and started the manhunt.

Crime Branch raids roadside liquor stalls, eateries to curb crimes during poll

Nagpur: In view of State Assembly elections, the Crime Branch in association with Anti-Encroachment Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) conducted a series of raids on illegal roadside liquor stalls and other eateries indulging in anti-social activities during the poll period.

Action was taken agaisnt such shops in Immamwada, Ajni, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Hudkeshwar police jurisdictions on Thursday night.

During the raid, special squad of Crime Branch Unit 4 comprising PI Satyawan Mane, APIs Dilip Chandan, Kiran Chogale, PSI Ramesh Umathe, Constables Devendra Chauhan, Sachin Tumsare, Shrikant Marwade cracked down on the roadside shops dealing in illegal liquor and eateries and booked their owners. Besides, Crime Branch also raided a Motha Tajbagh based pan shop belonging to notorious goon Abu Khan’s relatives.

The drive was supervised by Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nilesh Bharne, DCP (Detection) Gajanan Rajmane, and ACP Sudhir Nandanwar.
