Group of youths having birthday bash thrashed by security guards for no reason

Nagpur: In an incident exposing police complacency in serious matters has come to the fore. It so happened that some youngsters had gone to Dwarka Water Park, situated on Saoner Road, near Waki Darbar, Waki, to enjoy picnic. However, the youths were thrashed black and blue by the Park security guards for unknown reasons. But the Khapa police under whose jurisdiction the Water Park comes under, threw all their might to cover up the sordid episode, of course, for obvious reasons. It is not the first time that the Water Park indulged in such outrageous acts. But the police, instead of acting tough, try to save the skin of the operator of the park.

The security guards and the operator of Dwarka Water Park claimed that the youths were in inebriated condition and indulging in indecent acts. Hence they were ousted from the Park.

However, it is pertinent to mention that there is not a single Water Park in Nagpur District where you would not find people in ‘high spirits.’ Consuming liquor is common. The youngsters go to Water Parks for fun in their own way. But the youths who had gone to Dwarka Water Park to celebrate birthday of their friend were beaten mercilessly by the security guards. The beating was so severe that it could have proved life threatening for some. A youth named Ankush Wasnik fell unconscious due the thrashing and 3-4 other youths suffered serious injuries. All the injured were admitted in Mayo Hospital.

The relatives of Ankush Wasnik claimed that the affairs in Dwarka Water Park are so dubious and high-handed that even police find themselves helpless. Ankush and some other youths had gone to celebrated birthday of one of their friends named Rahul, all residents of Panchsheel Nagar in city. During the fun, one of the security guards heckled Ankush. Even before Ankush could ask the security guard the reason behind his heckling, 7-8 other guards reached the spot and took Ankush to a room. There he was beaten mercilessly. When his friends tried to save him, they were showered with lathis and thrashed severely, the relatives of Ankush charged.

Khapa police, based on a complaint, although registered an offence against the accused under Sections 324, 504, 506, 34 of the IPC but were found dragging their feet from initiating a stern action in the matter. Earlier also, police were found in cover up operation when a toy train in the Park had met with an accident in which some teachers and students of a school were injured. This incident was also buried under the weight of the influential Water Park operator.

Dwarka Water Park version:
When contacted for comments on the incident, the operator of Dwarka Water Park, Dharmendra Ramani told Nagpur Today that the facts stated by the complainant are baseless and false. “The youths misled the police. All the youths were drunk and indulging in hooliganism. The drunk youths were trying to sabotage the park premises and were hurling filthy abuses. However, when our staff tried to intervene, they misbehaved with them. Subsequently, the staff asked the hoodlums to leave the Park,” Ramani clarified.

When asked whether the staff thrashed the youths or not, Ramani asserted that, “The youths were drunk and they lost balance at the staircase and fell. These all are baseless allegations,” Ramani said.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: In the midst of question marks being raised on food served in mid day meal provided by the Akshaya Patra Foundation, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is readying itself to act in the matter.

According to FDA’s Assistant Commissioner Milind Deshpande, he has received complaints regarding irregularities pertaining to the Akshaya Patra through communications media. Based on the complaints, FDA would initiate a search action on organisation’s kitchen and distribution system.

Deshpande said that the action will be taken within a day or two. “FDA carries search from time to time. The Department is fully aware of the systems of Akshya Patra. FDA has not received any complaints against the organisation before this controversy. If a written complaint is received by FDA, cognisance will certainly be taken of it,” the Assistant Commissioner asserted.

It may be recalled that an NGO RTE Action Committee headed by Shahid Sharif had raised objections over the working style of the Akshaya Patra. Sharif had levelled serious accusations against the renowned organisation that runs school lunch programme across India.

Akshaya Patra provides mid day meals to thousands of students in hundreds of schools in city as well. According to Sharif, the organisation was given responsibility of providing mid day meals in 350 schools of the city without tender process. But this organisation is violating laid down norms of mid day meal scheme. “Akshaya Patra has no agreement with government. The system is being run only with the agreement with schools,” Sharif charged.

It was Achrekar who honed the skills of the Master Blaster during his initial days as a batsman. He was 87 years old. He was the recipient of the Dronacharya award as well as the Padma Shri. Time and again, Tendulkar recalled how Achrekar used to take him for different tournaments in Mumbai on his scooter when he was a budding cricketer. “He (Archrekar Sir) is no more with us. He passed away this evening,” his kin Rashmi Dalvi told PTI over phone.

Every now and then, Tendulkar went to seek blessings from his childhood coach. Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

NAGPUR: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat Wednesday asserted that only a Ram temple will be constructed in Ayodhya.

His comments came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested that any decision on an ordinance on the Ram temple could only be taken after the completion of the judicial process, but stressed that the Centre was ready to make all efforts to fulfil its responsibility.

Earlier in the day, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said Hindus could not wait “till eternity” for the court’s decision on the Ram temple and asserted that the only way forward was to enact a legislation for its construction.

Replying to a query on the Ram Mandir issue with just a few months left for the Lok Sabha polls, the schedule of which will bring in force the Model Code of Conduct, Bhagwat said, “Only a temple will come up in Ayodhya.”

“We have faith in Lord Ram. It does not take time for time to change,” he said.

The RSS chief was speaking to the media after attending a programme here. He said the saffron organisation stood by the statement given by its general secretary, Bhaiyyaji Joshi, on the temple issue.

Joshi had Tuesday said the general public and also those in power wanted that a Ram temple be built at the disputed site in the holy town of Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, speaking at a function organised by the Sevasadan Shikshan Sanstha, Bhagwat emphasised on need-based and the practical form of education.

“There is no dispute that the education policy should change and the change should be from the basics,” he said.

“It has been said that a new education policy has been introduced, but there is no time for its implementation. Its implementation would depend on what happens next,” Bhagwat added.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Students should be given in-depth and modern technical education in agriculture for its sustenance as it is the backbone of the country, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday.

Bhagwat was speaking at a function organized by Sevasadan Education Society to present Ramabai Ranade Shikshan Prabodhan Puraskar 2019. Chairman of Solar Industries India Limited Satyanarayan Nuwal presided. Present at the programme were president of SES Kanchan Gadkari, MLC Nago Ganar, CEO of Vishna Infa Ltd R Shridhar, secretary Indubala Mekuwar and chairperson of the awards committee Vasanti Bhagwat. The RSS chief said it is a matter of concern that the Indians have adopted a tendency to wait for others to bring about a change in society.

This ‘waiting game’ will not pay an dividend and therefore people should come forward on their own to usher in a change for better, he added. There should be an indigenous education system in place so that a trained manpower will be available for a better future. He reiterated that giving technical education to students seeking to study agriculture should be given a push so that they could learn new techniques of farming.

Bhagwat said inclusion of social welfare as a subject in education can go a long way to build a strong society. Similarly, it is of paramount importance that women should be given freedom so that they will empower themselves. Earlier, Abhyudaya Global Village School was presented the Ramabai Ranade Shikshan Prabodhan Puraskar for its contribution to educate children in villages to excel in the field of agriculture entrepreneurship. The award was received by Sachin and Bhagyashree Deshpande, daughter and son-in-law of the founder of AGVS. They were presented a cheque of Rs51,000, sapling and a memento.

The agro-centric school, located 45km from Nagpur, trains children from 18 villages in sustainable agriculture practices. It also aims to change the perception about farming among the youth. Replying to the felicitation, Deshpande said the goal of the school is to create a generation which will not ask for employment but will be capable of giving jobs to others. Nuwal stressed the importance of education for empowerment of women. He pointed out that even after being more educated and aware, the sensitivity of people today is decreasing towards the community and the nation. A souvenir containing articles on education discoveries was also released during the programme.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The much anticipated call on giving over Nagpur airport to private hands is expected to be taken for final decision in New Year. Sources informed the decision will be out this month only.

The airport is currently being run by Mihan India Limited (MIL), a joint venture company of state government’s Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), and Airports Authority of India. In October this year, GMR had emerged as the highest bidder for taking over the airport operations as against the other contender GVK. The bids have to be approved by the state government as well as the MIL board. The bid has been referred to concerned agencies to evaluate the deal. A decision is expected in a month’s time, said a source in MADC.

The private companies had to bid on the ratio of revenue to be shared with MIL. The stakeholders will be doing their calculations to ascertain if it would be viable to accept the GMR deal at the rate it has offered, said a source. It has been learnt that GMR has offered to share less than 7% of its revenues earned from the Nagpur airport with MIL.

Under the deal, GMR will be pumping in over Rs1600 crore to create new facilities in the airport, to develop it as an international cargo and passenger hub. Meanwhile, Air Asia which had started its flights to Kolkata and Bangalore from Nagpur in March 2018 will be terminating its services this month. However, this is being compensated with Indigo starting flights in the same sector said a source. The exit by Air Asia will not have any impact in the airport revenues.

Nagpur: Acting on secret information, officials of Food and Drug Administration on Thursday conducted raid on a sweetmeat shop in Pachpaoli and found that the owner was using pieces of green coloured peanuts in place of pistachio (pista) while preparing Soan Papdi.

Subsequently, the FDA team seized about 4873 kg of Soan Papdi stock worth Rs 3.16 lakh being kept for sale. The FDA also seized the green coloured peanuts and the artificial green colour. All the seized stuff has been sent to laboratory for analysis. After receiving the test report, further action will be initiated against the sweetmeat shop owner under Food Safety and Standards Act, FDA said.

The FDA team conducted raid on M/s Ganga Sweets, near Railway Gate No. 1, Pachpaoli. The owner of M/s Ganga Sweets has been identified as Raju Shivaji Bhunje. The accused owner was misguiding the consumers by selling spurious stuff. The labels of Soan Papdi mentioned pista as ingredient but in its place green coloured peanuts were being used in the sweet. The spurious pistachios can be extremely harmful to health, informed the FDA officials.

The raid was conducted by Assistant Commissioner (Food) Milind Deshpande, Food Safety Officers Anant Chaudhary, Abhay Deshpande, and Praful Tople under the guidance of Joint Commissioner, FDA, Nagpur.

Nagpur: The Director of MSEB Holding Company Vishwas Pathak on Thursday said that the corrections made by MERC in power factor levels will benefit industrial consumers as well as MSEDCL. Pathak was speaking to media persons at Mantralaya in Mumbai.

Power factor corrections can be extremely beneficial. Benefits include everything from reduced demand charges on industrial power system to increased load carrying capabilities in your existing circuits and overall reduced power system loses. Most industrial processing facilities use a large quantity of induction motors to drive their pumps, conveyors, and other machinery in the plant.

These induction motors cause the power factor to be inherently low for most industrial facilities. Similarly, the MERC move will help improve the power factor through power factor correction. It will, therefore, lower the demand charge, helping to reduce electricity bill.

Many electric utility companies charge for maximum metered demand based on either the highest registered demand in kilowatts (KW meter), or a percentage of the highest registered demand in KVA (KVA meter), whichever is greater. If the power factor is low, the percentage of the measured KVA will be significantly greater than the KW demand.

Improving the power factor through power factor correction will therefore lower the demand charge, helping to reduce your electricity bill. It will also ensure increased load carrying capabilities in existing circuits, improved voltage, and reduced power system losses.
