Devendra Fadnavis flags off the Rally that will cover the entire Vidarbha for creating massive awareness and support for Vidarbha Statehood.

Ashish-Deshmukh-2Nagpur News.

Dr Ashish Deshmukh, Founder of ‘Youth for Vidarbha State’ and Convener of ‘Vidarbha Joint Action Committee,’ has embarked on a ‘Yuva Elgar Rally’ on Wednesday (February 5) with the sole aim of creating massive awareness and support for Vidarbha State. The ‘Yuva Elgar Rally,’ (on motorcycles) participated by a young brigade under the leadership of Dr Deshmukh, was flagged off at Tekdi Ganesh Mandir by the President of Maharashtra BJP Devendra Fadnavis. Dr Deshmukh performed “Puja” of Lord Ganesh and sought His blessings for the success of his mission. The ‘Yuva Elgar Rally’ will scan the entire Vidarbha.

Devendra Fadnavis, clearing his stand on separate Vidarbha demand, said, “The condition of Vidarbha is very poor as far as development is concerned. Some top leaders of Vidarbha itself have been opposing independent Vidarbha State. People, particularly the youths, will not prosper until and unless separate Vidarbha is carved out. In the past, Nagpur Accord was signed for the development of Vidarbha. But leave alone development, Vidarbha marched backward and backward in almost all fields. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar had commented that the accords like Nagpur Accord are signed to dump in the garbage bins. BJP strongly supports independent Vidarbha State and I wholeheartedly support Dr Ashish Deshmukh’s stand on Vidarbha. Dr Deshmukh undertook indefinite hunger strike during Winter Session of Maharashtra Legislature and also took out “Padyatra” to Sewagram from Nagpur for stressing the demand for separate Vidarbha. People of Vidarbha have voted for Vidarbha Statehood in the referendum carried out recently in three districts recently and in the entire Vidarbha in the past. I extend my best wishes to ‘Yuva Elgar Rally’ for success in its purpose,” the South West Nagpur MLA said during flagging off the rally.

Ashish-Deshmukh-1

Dr Ashish Deshmukh in his speech on the occasion said, “Vidarbha’s financial condition has turned precarious by the discriminatory policies of State Government. The educated youths of the region have been leaving their homes and families behind for employment in Western Maharashtra and other places in the country. The Parliament session is from February 5 to 19. Parliament is passing a proposal on Telengana State during this period despite uproar in Parliament and in Andhra Pradesh itself. Our non-violent agitation for independent Vidarbha State has been going on but the UPA Government at Centre has been neglecting the people’s demand. The Central Government should come out with a resolution in Parliament for Vidarbha State along with Telengana before our peaceful agitation turns violent. I will not sit resting until separate Vidarbha is carved out. Vidarbha-loving people have stood behind me and wholeheartedly supported the demand for separate Vidarbha,” Dr Ashish Deshmukh said.

Dr Deshmukh threw light on various unfortunate aspects embroiling Vidarbha like suicides by more than 32,000 farmers due to staggering irrigation backlog, no agricultural process industries, economic backlog, absence of agri supplementary industries, negligence of tourism, wastage of mineral sources, Mihan’s shabby state of affairs, poor situation on energy front, exodus of educated unemployed youths, Naxalism, malnutrition etc etc.

Others who were present during ‘Yuva Elgar Rally’ flagging off include Ahmed Qadar, former MLA Bhola Badhel, and others.

Nagpur News.

Social activist and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Jammu Anand has lodged a police complaint at Kotwali police station here against former BJP President Nitin Gadkari, alleging that the latter had used incendiary words while addressing booth level meeting of BJP workers at Reshimbagh ground on February 2. However Gadkari has not come up with any clarification in this regard.

The video byte of the occasion which is with Nagpur Today shows Gadkari challenging his opponents through provocative words. In the video Gadkari is seen saying to his party workers, “…kisi ki koi haisiyat nahi hai koi aukat nahi hai…darna nahi hai…na media ko darna, na netaon ko darna…eent ka jawaab paththar se dena…hum kisi ko chhorenge nahi, kisi ko marenge nahi…koi haath aaya to ukhadkar todkar phek denge, aisi taaqat dikhao, aapke peeche mein khada hoon.” (Nobody has any capacity…do not scare from anybody…neither from media nor from leaders, just dole out befitting reply to all…we will not spare anyone, nor we will beat them up…if anybody comes our way we will uproot them and break them apart…Show such a display of strength, I am stading behind you.”

Meanwhile in his complaint, Anand said that Gadkari’s speech to his party workers was quite intimidating and threatening to the social fabric of the city.

Talking to Nagpur Today, Anand said the way in which Gadkari directed his party workers to teach lesson to his opponents is quite objectionable. “Gadkari has spelled out clear cut message to his followers to set all his opponents right. He has asked his party workers to break the restrictions and ‘go ahead’ to teach his rivals lesson without worrying for the repercussions. He has even assured them of backing the party workers in case any problem arises in their ‘course of action’ against all those who stood against him”, Anand said.

He said that using such an inflammatory language amounts to legal offence and we have asked the cops to take strict action against such activities intending to disturb the social peace.

As per the complaint, Gadkari reportedly expressed before his party workers there were few restrictions on him due to which he could not initiate anything against his ‘enemies’, adding that there are no such restrictions on the party workers. He signaled them to use all measures to corner his opponents in whichever way possible.

Jammu said that the cops had assured him of inquiring into the matter and if anything ‘objectionable’ comes out then further action would be initiated against Gadkari.

Nagpur News: Former BJP National President Nitin Gadkari, after his provocative speech while addressing booth level meeting of BJP workers at Reshimbagh ground on February 2, resorted to spat with Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh (BMS) and also did not spare media.

The explosive question — “Why always fight for salaries and bonus” – by Gadkari at the conference of BMS in Reshimbagh Ground triggered an earthquake of which the centre was Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir. However, the National General Secretary of BMS Baidnath Rai, while objecting the words of Gadkari, asserted that “Talking is very easy. What have the NDA done for workers?” Rai countered Gadkari and thus paid him in the same coin.

Gadkari also came down heavily on the media. Media has been responsible in a big way for closing down many Cooperative Banks. Quoting a journalist, without naming him, said “In today’s electronic media, monsters are seating. The monsters first try to eat something good. If did not get anything to eat, they eat up even garbage,” said Gadkari while quoting the journalist.

OCW’s apathy: People cry while owners enjoy regular water supply

Water Crisis?? What is it??
While many areas in the city are crying for the erratic water supply, tankers are being poured every day at Omkar Towers – the residence of Arun Lakhani, owner of Vishvaraj Infrastructure which partnered with France based Veolia Water to form Orange City Waters.

Nagpur News.

Even as summer is round the corner, the water crisis started to deepen in the city, thanks to the ongoing differences between the city water operator Orange City Waters (OCW) and the tanker owners association here. On Wednesday, the mob fury was evident in Bhawani Nagar area of Pardi Ward when the angry people stormed Lakadganj Water Tank premises and thrashed the officials there. It is learnt that these people had not received tankers in their area for atleast 4 days. On Thursday also there were reports of scuffle and fisticuffs in Nehru Nagar area for the lack of water supply.

Enraged over the disrupted water supply, Congress city unit president Vikas Thakre has called a press conference on Thursday.

Thakre informed that a meeting of corporators has been called at NMC Commissioner’s office followed by a press conference.

As the OCW is trying to douse the flames that may engulf entire water supply mechanism in both network and non-network areas of Nagpur, the other side of this grim picture appears painted in pink. While the residents are crying hard to get potable water to reach their areas, OCW is showering extra privilege in the areas that are paying up for the tankers.

It surfaced that water tankers are being supplied regularly at Omkar Towers in Dhantoli, which is the residence of Arun Lakhani, owner of Vishvaraj Infrastructure. It is to be noted that OCW has been formed in joint venture of Vishvaraj Infrastructure and France based Veolia Water.

Clarifying on this count, OCW Public Relations Officer Sachin Dravekar said that water tankers being supplied at Omkar Towers are actually the paid tankers. “We supply to anyone who is willing to pay. The secretary of Omkar Towers society has been ordering the water tankers as there are around 100 people in this society for whom the water supply is not suffice.”

When asked whether OCW is paying heed only to those who are paying for the water tankers, Dravekar said OCW’s job is to supply water to all the people but it is getting hampered due to abrupt strike by the tanker owners’ association.

“Actually we had inducted 75 new water tankers for supply in network areas where there are water supply lines but shortage of water. Later we informed old tanker operators not to supply water in network areas and focus on non-network areas where there are no supply lines. This has caused the entire issue. Now the members of tanker owners’ association are restricting the newly inducted water tankers from supplying water to network areas. The drivers are being thrashed and beaten which is why water supply has been hampered. But this is temporary crisis and we hope to put an end to this crisis in the next 48 hours”, Dravekar told Nagpur Today.

Meanwhile, Congress city unit president Vikas Thakre informed that even there is no supply through water pipe lines in network areas. Like in Shastri Layout where Thakre resides, water supply is being done through tankers but that has been abruptly stopped.

“There are supply lines but no water. Interestingly the bills are being sent regularly. The new tanker operators are so naïve that they have completely brought the water supply to grind halt. If you look at water reservoirs of Adhyapak Layout and Pratap Nagar, then there are repairs going on as the new operators do not have any knowhow of the supply mechanism. Leakages are being observed at many places. OCW has completely thrown the water supply out of order. It is the biggest mistake to hand over the water supply in private hands.”

Vikas Thakre spits fire on OCW, top NMC bosses for turmoil over water supply

“Citizens are a harassed and tortured lot by the poor working style of OCW. The Corporators repeatedly file complaints but the Administration and office-bearers have turned deaf and dumb and till today, not a single concrete measure has been initiated by them in order to ease the problem of erratic and irregular water supply in many areas of the city,” said the Leader of Opposition in NMC Vikas Thakre.

Nagpur News.

The day after outraged Bhawani Nagar citizens, including large number of womenfolk, thrashed and forced OCW officials to run for their lives in Lakadganj Zone, the Leader of Opposition in NMC Vikas Thakre did not miss the opportunity to strike at the red-hot iron (hot atmosphere).

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Vikas Thakre tore apart the working style of the Orange City Water (OCW) and fired a salvo at the NMC Administration and the office-bearers. “Citizens are a harassed and tortured lot by the poor working style of OCW. The Corporators repeatedly file complaints but the Administration and office-bearers have turned deaf and dumb and till today, not a single concrete measure has been initiated by them in order to ease the problem of erratic and irregular water supply in many areas of the city. Moreover, the areas where water supply used to continue for more than two hours, now hardly 15-20 minutes of water supply is being witnessed. OCW lacks the necessary machineries and experienced staff. There is turmoil even before the start of scorching summer. And the leakage problem has been dotting the city in a big magnitude,” Thakre said.

“There is no coordination between the OCW and Water Works Department of NMC. Previously, water tankers were used to cover the network and non-network areas regularly but the water tankers were nowhere to be seen for the past 4-5 days. The Water Tax payers have not been receiving water but the authorized water tankers of OCW and NMC are supplying water to those who are paying money to them. Citizens need water no matter from where. The NMC Commissioner and the Mayor should take steps on an emergency basis before the dawn of blistering summer,” the Leader of Opposition demanded.

Thakre further said that the Congress Corporators will meet the NMC Commissioner and submit a memorandum demanding regular water supply to every area of the city. “If the problem is not resolved within 8-10 days, the top officials and office-bearers would not be allowed to enter their chambers,” Vikas Thakre warned.

“The Mayor Anil Sole should resort to ‘Dharna Protest’ in front of NMC Commissioner like the Delhi Chief Minister did if his ruling is not implemented by the NMC Administration. Even then the Administration fails to follow the orders, the Mayor Sole should resign and the Ruling Party Leader Praveen Datke be made Mayor as he is capable and efficient,” Thakre asserted.

Thakre termed the abusive words used by the lower ranked OCW employees against a senior official like Urade an insult of the NMC. The Commissioner should act tough against the OCW employees, said Thakre.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Water Works Committee Sudhakar Kohale met the Commissioner and informed him that the tender period of the present Directors of water tankers is over and tenders should be floated afresh.

CHAPPAL GARLAND TO OCW OFFICIALS:

Ward No. 44 Corporator Malutai Tanaji Wanve and other citizens gheraoed the OCW officials, and women present on the occasion offered a garland of chappals to the officials to mark the protest. Hasanbagh, Darshan Colony, Vyankatesh Nagar and Nandanvan Housing Complex have not been getting water through pipeline and also by tankers for the past three days. The citizens broke earthen pots (Matkas) and offered a garland of chappals to OCW officials to express their anger over no supply of water to their areas.

Health Committee dumps Administration’s Committee formed to curb bogus doctors

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

However, the nonsensical decision has brought the NMC Administration and Ruling Party face to face for a showdown.

Nagpur-Bogus-DoctorNagpur News.

The Health Committee of NMC appears to have taken an unhealthy decision. The Health Committee has thrown out the NMC’s “Bogus Medical Practitioners Search Committee,” specifically formed to crackdown on bogus doctors in city and NMC limits. The Committee was formed in accordance with the directives of Maharashtra Government. Bogus doctors have mushroomed in recent past and thus have been posing health hazards to innocent citizens. However, the nonsensical decision has brought the Administration and Ruling Party face to face for a showdown.

The move on the part of Health Committee has put the crusade against bogus doctors in limbo. Reports are pouring that many bogus doctors, without any fear, have started their business again.

The NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane, implementing the directives of State Government, had constituted the “Bogus Medical Practitioners Search Committee,” with Additional NMC Commissioner Hemant Pawar its Chairman.

The Committee, taking serious note of mushrooming of bogus doctors, had cracked down on 52 fake doctors and had initiated stringent action under Medical Practitioners Act Maharashtra 1961 and FIRs were filed against 10 bogus doctors. Similarly, Dr S S Shinde of NMC’s Isolation Hospital was issued a show cause notice on account of negligence. The Committee members had inspected the Isolation Hospital as an outbreak of cholera and gastro was reported during Urs at Tajbagh and many patients were admitted in the Hospital. During the inspection, the Committee members found no doctors and the situation like a hell.

The throwing out of NMC Administration’s Committee by Ruling Party’s Health Committee would certainly trigger a showdown between the top officials and ruling office bearers.

Continuing with our interaction with the bright new and shining event managers of the city, Nagpur Today gets candid with Sanjay Kukreja, Event Organizer,  Balaji Entertainments in the the series, Here’s low down on Kukreja detailing finer nuances of his event managing aspects…

-Tell us something about yourself?

What do I say! I’m Sanjay Kukreja as you know. Event organizer based in Nagpur, schooling from Delhi.  My

company, Balaji Entertainments deals with Event, Outdoor Media, Movie Promotions, In Film Branding, Was a student of B.Com Commerce! I was interested in studies, wanted to be a computer engineer; family business of accounting was the thing I had previously been involved in. I’m not afraid to tell that I have done salesmanship as well, at my uncle’s shop. And I would surely mention, Nagpur since always has been a comfortable place for me, that’s why I love staying here.

-How did you get started with events in Nagpur?

My first grand event was youth singer Shaan’s live concert in Nagpur. That’s where I got started from. Plus, if we find the way, we get it! So I ended up getting my way of managing events in Nagpur.

-When did you become an ‘event manager’?

Honestly speaking, I still feel I’m not an event manager, since the definition of event manager has changed. Since around last five years, various courses of event management have been introduced in Nagpur. Those are the people who are called ‘event managers’ these days who’ve pursued such course with nominal experience. But that’s not true. Event Management needs a lot of hard work, which comes from more and more experience and hardships faced in life. Although I didn’t pursue any course, I am a person, who manages events quite well; in this way I’m surely an event manager since my live concert with Shaan in 2003.

-Which are your major events that took place in Nagpur?

Katrina Kaif Live In with many other bollywood stars, which was one of the major events of Nagpur.

The time when three Khan Brothers (Salman, Sohail and Arbaaz), came together for Nagpur visit and promotion. It was the grand Dabang Concert, I guess this was one of the biggest events of India. And many more.

-Is anything else your profession apart from managing event?

Surely I’m a businessman as well. I have a garment shop cum salon in Nagpur. However, I look forward to expand my horizons and groom the part of my management company, Kalakruti Sanstha more.

-What all changes do you think you were able to introduce in Nagpur?

I would definitely mention that I brought superstars of Bollywood to Nagpur, and made them openly reachable to audience. I even feel that I’m successful in changing a celeb’s mentality positively about Nagpur.

-What struggles are involved in event management?

Many!! Struggle for contacts, for coordination, for sponsorships, for permissions, and lots more!

-Which was the worst incident that happened to you as an event manager?

That Nagpur Me events haat me nai aate! People trust you after putting in a lot of efforts, buttering I must say! What can be worse than that? But I’m lucky that people here trust me. However I try hard to always get what I desire, so nothing as such is bad for me. But I would mention an example that made me doubt the capabilities of big firms; we had superstar Salman Khan scheduled for a visit to Nagpur, when I approached Radisson Blu, Nagpur to grant a stay for him. They refused saying that they won’t be able to arrange the security required for a star like Salman! I was shocked! Such are the incidences that we have to face at times, wherein big banners as well fail to help.

-How did you initially get assigned with events in hand? And of what types?

With Sunny Leone

With Sunny Leone

Initially, I myself strived a lot. Shaan’s event was arranged by me. Then after that, the charge of celebrity visits has come in my hand. I am very thankful to Nagpur market, as it has a lot of potential and celebs themselves look forward to visit this city, hence my efforts are automatically reduced.

-How exactly did you get in touch with the celebrity managers? How did they respond to you? (Good/bad?)

Through contacts and following a lot of them, of course!

-How and at what all instances exactly do you get a profit margin when it comes to earnings?

Though my company, by selling tickets at times, etc. As an agency we undertake movie marketing and promotions, by tying up with production banners. The source of pay depends on types of movie in hand. At times we even take projects in hand just as a part of our commitment, even though no profit is earned.

-What all are the things that you spend upon during an event?

A lot of things! The general expenses, which I won’t mention in detail (laughing).

It has been considered that event management is a vicious field, many good/bad things are involved in it. What do you have to say about it?

I feel every field is vicious; but if we talk about making investment in this field, the factors involving problematic situation are definitely more.

-Which is the best and the worst thing about this field?

The best thing definitely is that you encounter name, fame and glamour. On the other hand, the worst thing being, at times your own beloved ones fail to understand you. You are left with no time for your personal life.

-What are your future plans for Nagpur?

I wish to bring Amitabh Bachchan to Nagpur, that being a mega event. I even desire to conduct a Hollywood Show in Nagpur under our company banner.

Nagpur News.

The long pending recommendation of Majithia wage board for working journalists and newspaper employees could finally see the light of the day now as decks have been cleared for its implementation. With the Supreme Court on Friday upholding the validity of the Majithia wage board, saying that its recommendations are based on genuine consideration, the scribes throughout the country have the big reason to cheer. Back in Nagpur the environment among the journalists was no different. As the news poured in, large number city journalists gathered at Tilak Patrakar Bhawan here and celebrated the victory. They also distributed sweets to rejoice the verdict. Nagpur Union of Working Journalists has hailed the decision and termed it as the turning point in the lives of the journalists.

In its decision, Supreme Court also dismissed newspaper organisations’ challenge to the constitutional validity of the working journalists and newspaper employees act.

An apex court bench headed by Chief Justice P. Sathasivam also upheld the procedure adopted by the Majithia wage board, holding that the variations pointed out in procedure was not grave in nature.

The court held that the wage board will be implemented from Nov 11, 2011 when it was notified by the government and the arrears from Nov 11, 2011 to March 2014 will be paid to the employees in four equal instalments spread over a period of one year and the revised pay scales under the recommendation of Majithia wage board comes into force from April 2014.

Welcoming the move city’s Senior journalist Pradeep Maitra – Hindustan Times said, “It’s really good news. We have been eagerly awaiting this verdict. Thousands of journalists throughout the country will be happy with this development. It’s a welcome decision. Whatever we contended was duly addressed. More than 80 per cent of our demands have been accepted. Now we are looking forward to the government’s notification soon.”

Senior journalist Joseph Rao (PTI) termed it as historic decision in favour of working journalists. Talking to Nagpur Today Rao said, “Working journalists have been waiting for the verdict of the apex court for a long period of time. They have fought the battle not only in the court of law but taken it to the streets. Now the government should issue notification to pave the way for healthy pay packets to the journalists. All the members, office-bearers and leaders of Nagpur Union of Working Journalists, Maharashtra Union of Working Journalists and Tilak Patrakar Bhawan Trust heartily welcome the decision.”

Rao added, “We urge the centre to issue the necessary notification at the earliest without wasting time.”

However the wage board recommendation would be applicable only to the permanent journalists. Rao said, “Those working on contract will not fall under this recommendation, however, the management has the discretion to pay them higher wages and bring them on par with the permanent staff.”

Senior journalist Rahul Pande – The Hitavada said, “We welcome SC verdict as it was long overdue. It was accepted by the government in 2011 but unfortunately most of the big newspapers challenged the implementation of Majithia Wage Board. Now after two and a half years of painful wait, our demands are finally met. However we demanded the arrears from the date of the constitution of the wage board that happened in 2008 but it will be given from the date of notification i.e. from 2011. We have lost the arrears of almost 3 years.”

He said, “I have gone through the verdict and noted that the court had rejected all the contentions putforth by the newspaper organizations. Now that the verdict is honored by the Chief Justice of India himself, we are grateful to the Supreme Court and to our lawyers who presented our case. We hope it will be implemented from April 2014 and the arrears be given accordingly.”

A non-journalist ex-employee and union leader of a big media organization here Sanjay Patil was recently sacked for pressing demand to implement Majithia Wage Board. Patil now appears relieved at the decision. Talking to Nagpur Today, Patil said that he welcome the verdict in favour of journalist and non-journalist employees of media organizations. Now all the journalist unions should stand in unity and press for the speedy implementation of the wage board. He said, “The organizations who do not fall in line with SC verdict should be opposed tooth and nail. Then only all the struggle will bear some fruits. Otherwise the journalists will have to suffer injustice and tyranny of the management in the name of saving the job.”

Patil added that the CTC formula of remuneration has been implemented in media houses of the country which reaped huge profits for the organization and exploited the employees. The big houses did not want to pay according to the wage board recommendations, which is why they have introduced contractual system. Lokmat has gone one step ahead and sacked 31 permanent and 30 temporary staff and now trying to crush the demands. Anyways it is getting delayed but we will get justice as the matter is still pending in the court.”
