CM Fadnavis
Nagpur:
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has appealed party leaders, workers and well-wishers to contribute handsomely towards Jalyukt Shivar Campaign instead of putting hoardings, banners and advertisements on the occasion of his birthday. The Chief Minister’s birthday is celebrated on July 22.

The day Fadnavis took the reins of Chief Minister of Maharashtra, he had announced the ambitious Jalyukt Shivar scheme to turn 24,000 villages drought free. The scheme received an overwhelming response from all quarters and the positive results have started to show its effects. The scheme which will decide the future of State was appreciated all over the country. The Jalyukt Shivar Campaign has not remained a Government scheme only but took the shape of a people’s movement.

Last year too, the Chief Minister had issued an appeal not to celebrated his birthday but contribute enormously for the cause of Jalyukt Shivar Campaign. As a result, the campaign received an overwhelming response and continues till to date. The funds of the scheme are being utilized to make hundreds of villages drought free.

Congress
Nagpur:
City Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Vikas Thakre on Thursday targeted the civic body’s administration as well as the ruling party and ripped apart their development claims by exposing a slew of shoddy affairs being run in every department. In a memorandum submitted to the Additional Municipal Commissioner Ramnath Sonone, Thakre bared the poor show by NMC on all fronts including roads, city bus service, cable duct policy, wood scam at crematoriums, encroachment at Futala, garbage disposal system etc. Exposing the mess point by point, Thakre dwelt on every issue with facts and figures.

Poor roads:

  • The tar roads in the city are riddled with potholes causing increase in number of accidents. The citizens are suffering the brunt of uncanny connivance of contractors and babus. The NMC money is being plundered but no action is being initiated. The guilty contractors should be put in ‘black list’ and the irresponsible officials bringing bad name to the civic body should be brought to the book.

Star Bus:

  • The Vansh Nimay Company was given contract to operate Star Bus service in city. The NMC House had deliberated the corrupt practices being indulged by the operator and subsequently the then Mayor Anil Sole had ordered action against the company. Over 30 months have gone but no action is being seen. The fraudulent actions of Director of Company Ajay Dhavangade, the Municipal Commissioner and others were proved in the NMC House but no FIR was filed so far. It clearly means the office-bearers of NMC are backing the actions of the company. The House had approved filing of FIR and it should be filed immediately.

Cable duct:

  • The company contracted to lay cable ducts within NMC limits violated the cable duct policy. The company was slapped a fine of Rs 50 crore in accordance with the cable duct policy but only Rs 12 lakh were recovered. The Executive Engineer Gaikwad who “covered up” the issue is being protected. The Mayor had ordered action in NMC House but still nothing is being done.

Wood scam:

  • The crematorium wood supplying company Mahesh Trading has indulged in serious irregularities. The audit report had found the company guilty. Now, the company should be blacklisted and FIR should be filed against its Directors Nitin Fuke and Mahesh Barange.

Hot Mix plant:

  • The Jet Patcher Company was given contract to repair roads in rainy season in view of non-functional Hot Mix plant. But the company carried out patch up works in good running roads, submitted bogus bills and pocketed huge money. The contract of the company must be cancelled and FIR lodged for bogus bills.

Congress
Futala encroachment:

  • The Jet Patcher Company has allegedly encroached upon a 10,000 sq ft vacant land of NMC in Futala area. The NMC constructed a safety wall at the cost of Rs 2.50 crore following flowing of sewage water from hilly area. The NMC money was misused. A detailed probe should be conducted as to who put up the proposal, who approved the work. A criminal complaint should be filed against the company for illegal occupation of NMC land.

Garbage disposal:

  • The employees of Kanak Resource Management Company forcibly recover hefty amounts from house/flat owners for lifting of garbage and other waste material despite receiving salaries for the job. The contract of the company should be cancelled and NMC should put its own machinery for clearing the garbage and other waste material.

Tiger Jai

Nagpur
: The Forest Department and a team of over 100 volunteers have virtually launched a hunt, not for the kill but for tracing Jai, the iconic Tiger, who has gone missing from the Umred-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary since the past three months. The Forest Department has even drew a master-plan to locate the ‘elusive’ radio-collared feline. In a high-level meeting held on Wednesday, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Wildlife Chief Shree Bhagwan had directed the concerned officials to mount a search on war-footing to trace the missing beast immediately. Subsequently, four teams have been formed who will scan Umred-Karhandla Sanctuary and the nearby forests as well as other places. Help of over 70 guides and vehicles of safari enjoyers will be taken in this effort.

Jai’s disappearance has led to panic buttons being pressed by many NGOs, wildlife photographers, tourists, guides, and conservationists who all have joined hands in search for the tiger. More than 100 volunteers from Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gondia, and Bhandara districts have pledged to track down Jai.

gagan-2

This evening, Chitnavis centre, Nagpur is going to have an event that is unique and unprecedented. Nagpurians are going to be transported to Japan – or we can say Japan is going to be served to us on a plate!

This is what the Umamiya evening is going to be about. Umamaiya means a tasty place or a tasty experience.

Umamiya Japense evening curated menu on 22 nd july is going be about the typical Japanese food from Tokai & Chubu region . Difference then other regions is its stronger taste in all the forms as they use red Miso and red chilies in the sauces and in base and marinates.Form of cooking is mainly in grills / skewers and served with hot Japanese style rice with veg /non veg condiments.

This event is being hosted by city industrialist Gagan Sial who spoke exclusively to Nagpur Today about it last evening at his lovely and gracious home in Siyal layout.

” Nagpur has made me what I am and given me everything in life… Beginning my working life here I traveled the world – Indonesia, Japan, China, Mediterranean …everywhere. I wanted to bring a bit of every place back to Nagpur! This is my labour of love for the city and for its people – it is NOT a commercial venture for me” he says.

His friend and international chef Gurvinder Singh is in charge of the food. Everything has been flown in either from Delhi or Japan.Gagan

Salmon, other sea food, tofu, sea weed packets, sauces, spices and even salt from Japan and cooking equipment from Delhi.

On offer to each guest will be a choice of 4 veg or non veg dishes cooked in front of them.

“Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cuisine that uses an iron griddle to cook food. The word teppanyaki is derived from teppan which means iron plate, and yaki (焼き), which means grilled, broiled, or pan-fried. In Japan, teppanyaki refers to dishes cooked using an iron plate, including steak, shrimp, okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and monjayaki.
Modern teppanyaki grills are typically propane-heated flat surface grills and are widely used to cook food in front of guests at restaurants. Teppanyaki grills are commonly confused with the hibachi barbecue grill, which has a charcoal or gas flame and is made with an open grate design. With a solid griddle type cook surface, the teppanyaki is more suitable for smaller ingredients, such as rice, egg, and finely chopped vegetables.” Explains chef Gurvinder.

Nagpur is growing fast and developments like the Nagpur metro and MIHAN are going to bring many expats to the city. We should be prepared for them, says Gagan.

“All Indian metros like Mumbai. Delhi, Chennai and Banglore have many Japaense restaurants which are doing booming business. Afterall Japanese cuisine is growing in popularity world over. It is the healthiest of foods and foodies are realizing this!”

Tonight’s event has already been sold out.

“But we will be doing this again, soon. Probably around Diwali. And I plan to bring not just Oriental but many international foods to Nagpur. Just wait and watch” promises Gagan. We have already seen him in action dishing out tasty burgers at Nagpur’s Wine lovers annual meets.

This enthusiastic Nagpur Foodie delivers what he says.

Cement Road Construction (1)
Nagpur:
Feeling the heat of widespread criticism of shabby construction of roads in city, the Chief Engineer of Nagpur Municipal Corporation Ulhas Debadwar put his foot down and withdrew three works to be awarded to M/s Seth Construction Company from Standing Committee’s agenda.

The firm was supposed to asphalt roads worth Rs 1.69 crore in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar in Asthavinayak Colony, Indira Nagar in Ward No. 50 and asphalting of internal roads in Sambhaji Nagar, Bandu Soni Layout, Subhash Nagar, Lokhande Nagar. After the tender procedure, the NMC had shortlisted the firm. However, on July 20 General Body Meeting of the civic body, Debadwar informed the House that 18 roads under defect liability period got damaged due to poor works. A road asphalted by Seth Construction Company in Prabhag No. 72, too got damaged due to shoddy work though the road was tarred in August 2015. Taking cognizance of the poor quality of road work, the Chief Engineer withdrew the three proposals from the Standing Committee’s meeting. Sources said under fire for bad roads across the city, the NMC may blacklist this contractor too along with other three contractors indulged in shoddy road works.

NMC panel moots a minor hike on erring stray cattle owners

Stray Cattle on the road in Sadar area on Mount Road

Stray Cattle on the road in Sadar area on Mount Road

Nagpur:
The NMC’s stray cattle catching squad seems to be in deep slumber. On almost every major square or important roads including WHC road, large herd of cattle can be seen standing and blocking the smooth flow of road traffic.

Many of them defecate on the roads causing the already slippery roads with rain-water more slippery especially for the two-wheeler riders.

Well, the traffic cops can’t shoo them away because it is not their duty. It is time that NMC takes serious cognizance of stray cattle on the roads. All the special drive to free residential areas of stray cattle proved to be an act in futility. All the impounded heads of cattle are returned to the owners for a few hundreds and the cattle is back on the roads.

Negligible hike on erring stray cattle owners by NMC panel
Probably under the compulsions of not displeasing their vote bank, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation is set to drastically scale down the proposed hike in penalty to be imposed on stray cattle owners. Refuting the proposal to hike the fine by almost 13 times, a four-member committee of Corporators from the Standing Committee has reduced the penalty to mere two times.

The committee had suggested hiking the fine from Rs 550 to Rs 1,100 to be slapped on cow or horse owners as against the earlier proposal of Rs 5,000. Now, the panel’s proposal will be tabled before the standing committee for its nod.

On May 13, 2016 the NMC’s health department had proposed a massive hike in fine for violation. As per the proposal, the highest hike in penalty was for calf, from Rs 24 earlier to Rs 2,500. Similarly, fine for an elephant and cow was proposed to be increased to Rs 10,000 from the earlier Rs 1,828, while the penalty for stray cattle was to be hiked to Rs 5,000 as against the present Rs 550.

Nasty affairs in NMC unites drifting Congress

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Vikas Thakre and NMC
Nagpur:
The nasty affairs being run in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) at almost all fronts seem to have done a good cause for one entity if not to the citizens. The dithering and drifting Congress party in city showed the signs of unity when it staged demonstrations at the Headquarters of NMC and protested against the administration over a host of issues of public interest. The next year’s election to the civic body could also be the reason for the show of unity. The message of Congress unity turned widespread within hours and the talk of the NMC poll turning interesting made the rounds.

The In-Charge of Nagpur District and City and MLA Vijay Wadettiwar, in the past week, had held a closed door meeting of office-bearers of various units of the party. The meeting in one voice had expressed its concern over the inactiveness of many of senior party leaders and its effects on the next NMC poll. The closed door meeting was skipped by former minister Anees Ahmed and the lone party MLA from the district Sunil Kedar. The absence of the two leaders has sparked a kind of speculation with a section of partymen saying the two leaders were not invited and other section saying the invitations were extended but the personal work forced them to skip the meeting.

Whatever may be reasons, the agitation at the NMC HQ on Thursday witnessed steady stream of workers and leaders of different groups coming together. Those prominently present include Praful Gudadhe Patil, Sandeep Sahare, Abha Pande, Dr Prashant Chopra, Arun Davre and others. At the same time, the enthusiasm of hundreds of workers and other leaders namely Deepak Kapse, Sanjay Dubey, Zulfikar Bhutto, Tanaji Vanve, Harish Gwalvanshi, Prashant Dhavad, Sanjay Mahakalkar, Anil Pande, Umakant Agnihotri et al under the leadership of City Congress President Vikas Thakre was impressive. The united show clearly hinted that the internal bickering among the partymen was thing of the past. All the leaders and workers were demanding in one voice action against the guilty officials and office-bearers of NMC during the over 9-year rule of BJP.

Vikas Thakre has issued an ultimatum to the NMC Administration that if the wrong is not corrected by July 25, an intense agitation will be launched from July 26.

Hazare demands not to sideline Anil Pande:
The Congress Corporator Purshottam Hazare has demanded the party high command to take chief of Rajiv Gandhi Vichar Manch Anil Pande along in the next NMC polls. Sidelining of Pande could cost many Congress candidates dear in the election. Pande is an Independent Corporator and is reportedly planning to field a group of 2-3 independents from each of the Prabhags. The independents undoubtedly slice the votes of Congress. Sources said that the Congress is willing to concede only the candidature of Pande but he is demanding candidature for his six more supporters. This equation looks impossible. Hence Pande is in touch with the leaders of Third Front and if the talks fail to break the ice then he may field his supporters as independents.

Many Congress Corporators in exodus mood:
Sources said that the present 4-6 Congress Corporators are cherishing to contest the next NMC election under BJP banner. These Corporators mainly belong to Central and South Nagpur. Some are willing to be in the fray on Congress ticket as well. A former BSP Corporator seems to be in the Congress queue. Now the only wait for all the political parties is the carving out of the structure of Prabhags and also the outcome of a pending case in the High Court in this regard.

School Girls with Umbrella (3)
Nagpur:
Come monsoon season and the only ones who enjoy the season are the school going children. En route to their schools and back to home, they play with the puddle, make paper boats and come back with their clothes all dirty. They enjoy getting wet in the rains too. Though the parents buy costly rain-coats, they somehow carry the rain-coats in the bag under the duress of their parents, but conveniently forget to wear the rain-coats.

Playing football in the rain!
Playing football in a rain-drenched slushy ground gives a heavenly pleasure. The sliding, the way the ball slides on the slightest kick and the way the players fall all add to the fun quotient.

Many youngsters are seen playing football in the Kasturchand Park grounds. The kick of the football to your team members away from the opponent team members is a pleasure that is unequalled.

Umbrellas
While many school students use raincoats, especially those who go to school in their cycles, many use colourful umbrellas. Students can be seen with umbrellas in vibrant and myriad colours, can be seen opened when the last period gets over and the school bell rings.

A battery of ministers and political leaders reportedly lined up to visit ailing Ambekar at a Mumbai hospital. While this incident has sparked a fresh row over the alleged gangster-politician nexus, it has also made the atmosphere unpleasant in the political circles.

Sources informed that dreaded gangster Ambekar has been keeping ill for the last few days and had to be admitted to the hospital in Mumbai where the monsoon session of state assembly is underway. Sources claimed that the moment, news of Ambekar’s hospitilization spread, few of the ministers from the ruling party along with a battery of white collared executives touched down the hospital to see Ambekar and wished him speedy recovery.

Sources from the concerned hospital said that senior hospital authorities were shocked to see the ministers visiting the goon, and that too on a day when the Chief Minister Fadnavis was celebrating his 43rd birthday.

Sources said a corporator from Nagpur was also seen among the visitors. This corporator is often seen in Mumbai around every assembly session or state cabinet meetings. A Congress MLA from Mumbai was also among those dropping to see Ambekar.
Unconfirmed sources informed that Ambekar suffered a heart attack while he was in Mumbai and was admitted after the said condition. However the report could not be confirmed yet. Few others informed that Ambekar was down with food poisoning and had to be hospitalized.

Reliable sources informed that last year when Ambekar was imprisoned in Nagpur central jail, a local MLA had visited the jail premises and celebrated his birthday. It is learnt that the public representatives and ministers throng Ambekar’s home whenever the latter organises any programme. Ambekar’s proximity with a former Nagpur Police Commissioner also became the talk of the town for long time.

The Vidarbha License-Holding Stamp Paper Vendors Association has given the call for the one-day State-wide strike. The Monsoon Session of Maharashtra Legislature is going on in Mumbai and to draw the attention of Government towards their various demands, the stamp vendors will organize a dharna demonstration from 10 am to 5 pm on Monday at the local Azad Maidan.

Since today (July 23) is holiday on account of fourth Saturday and July 24 being Sunday, the stamp vendors will not be available for three consecutive days including the Monday strike. This dreadful aspect led to the litigants running from pillar to post for securing the vital stamp papers and other court material.

When contacted, the President of District Bar Association Adv Prakash Jaiswal said that the citizens should press panic button as the strike is only for one day. The strike may put the State Government at a revenue loss. The citizens may also face inconvenience as well. When asked about the black marketing of stamp papers and other material by some unscrupulous elements, Adv Jaiswal said that the District Administration should initiate measures to curb the practice and a vendor is found guilty, his license should be cancelled.

Nagpur
: Taking a step ahead to be the greenest Metro Rail in the country, Nagpur’s Majhi Metro has decided to install bio-digesters or mini sewage treatment plants (STPs) at all its stations and buildings.

Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) is going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard with Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), which had developed this technology. The NMRCL said that the bio-digesters would take care of human waste disposal at the stations and offices. The sewage system of the city is already overburdened. Therefore, we have decided to treat the waste generated on our premises ourselves, the NMRCL said.

“The DRDO bio-digester technology is environment friendly, maintenance free and efficient without depending on conventional energy sources. The effluent is odourless and gets rid off most of the pathogens. Hundreds of bio-digesters have been installed at various locations in Jammu & Kashmir, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Subsequently, the technology has been introduced in the Indian Railways for on-board treatment of human waste. Hundreds of these units are in operation in different trains,” an official of Majhi Metro stated. Explaining the bio-digester technology, the source said, “It has two components — anaerobic microbial consortium and specially designed fermentation tank. The consortium is developed by enrichment of bacteria at low temperatures and bio-augmentation with critical group of bacteria. The fermentation tank (bio-digester) is a device for accelerated microbial degradation of organic waste. This tank is made up of special material and has the power of immobilizing the bacteria in large numbers.”

Highlights of the Bio Digester Technology:

  • Eco-friendly and cost effective since there is no recurring cost
  • Wide applicability under different climatic conditions
  • Easy to transplant and install anywhere
  • Water consumption is minimized
  • 100% Effluent water is recycled, thus reusing the waste water for flushing & gardening
  • Reduction in organic waste by more than 90%
  • More than 99% pathogens reduction
  • NMRCL has planned to use this technology for its proposed 36 stations, 2 depots and Nagpur Metro buildings
  • Human waste disposal in innocuous form is an ever growing problem leading to aesthetic nuisance, threat of organic pollution & several diseases in epidemic proportions due to contamination of ground water and drinking water resources in highly populated and developing countries, like India. Untreated waste is responsible for several diseases like, dysentery, diarrhea, amoebiasis, viral hepatitis, cholera, typhoid etc. taking the life of lakhs of children annually. DRDO has perfected an eco-friendly biodegradation technology for human waste disposal for armed forces deployed at high altitude locations and glaciers. DRDO developed Biodigester technology is environmental friendly, maintenance free and efficient without depending on conventional energy sources. The effluent is odorless and gets rid-off most of the pathogens. Hundreds of such bio-digesters have been installed at various locations in J&K, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Subsequently, the technology has been extended to Indian Railways for on-board treatment of human waste. Hundreds of stainless steel made biodigesters are in operation in different trains of Indian Railways.

The Anaerobic Digestion Technology

  • The bio-digester technology has two components: anaerobic microbial consortium and specially designed fermentation tank
  • The Anaerobic microbial consortium is developed by acclimatization/enrichment of microbes at low temperature and bio-augmentation with critical group of bacteria
  • Fermentation Tank (Biodigester) is a device for accelerated microbial degradation of organic waste
  • Fermentation tank is made of mild steel/SS/FRP/Bricks and has the provision of immobilizing the bacteria in large numbers.
