ISA CME-2013 Nagpur gets underway

Health-1Nagpur News.

“Anesthetists are Behind the screen artists” said Dr. Rani Bang while delivering the Guest Lecture during the inaugural ceremony of 1st ISA Maharashtra State Biennial CME-2013, which got underway in the city at IMA Auditorium on November 23, 2013.

The Chief Guest, Founder of SEARCH in Gadchiroli, winner of the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan Award and Renowned Gynecologist Dr. Rani Bang said that Anesthetists plays a very vital role in the medical field. She said that she is very happy with the newer developments and the way budding Anesthetists perform very varied and complicated operations using their skills. Above all what touched her was the sensitivity shown by Anesthetists. This has increased her respect towards these professionals to a great extent. She added that today, the people in the country have become mere mute spectators over crime, pollution, corruption and various other illegal occurrences which is on the rise every day. But instead of fighting it out and raising our voices against it, we have become mute spectators like a patient who has been anaesthetized.

Dr. Bang said that since Anesthetists have no ulterior motives nor are corrupt, the role should not end there. They should take active part in the fight against corruption in the medical fraternity.

The increasing incidents of cases getting registered under Criminal Negligence of Doctors, Doctors being manhandled or beaten up etc are danger signals.  If corrective action is not taken now, things could go bad, she opined.

Health-2

However she dwelt with vehemence on one of the major needs in the medical fraternity especially in the rural areas. She said that there is a severe shortage of Anesthetists in civil hospitals like NRHM. So much so that many have to be called from as far as from Nagpur even for a small surgery like Caesarean operation for delivery of babies. Anesthetists should come forward and must reach out to maximum places especially the rural areas since there is a need of Anesthetists in rural society.

She also added that as a part of the society, we should be actively involved in removing the evils in the society. We should start with removing and fighting all such social evils which we see or know, be it at the place of our work or our residence. She also mentioned that like we light a small earthen lamp to dispense the darkness, we should fight against injustice and evils of the society. She urged all Anesthetists that they should help in the development of society and said that our education should be used to fulfill our social responsibilities.

“The two-day academic meet, based on the theme ‘Let’s share knowledge and experience’, includes scientific sessions covering areas of Clinical Anesthesia in day-to-day practice. Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

charasNagpur News.

On a sunny afternoon at a secluded stretch on VIP road in Nagpur, smoke emanated from the shrubbery greens. As we approached nearer, we heard some whispers…What followed was the scene of shock. A group of ten people, many of them in their twenties, puffed up the chillum filled with charas. This is just not an isolated case but the alarming trend in the city. Substance abuse has been on the new high in the city and the habit has been picked up rampantly among the youngsters. The situation has reached its peak right under the nose of administration.

Nagpur Today Crime Reporter Ravikant Kamble snooped into the smoky world and brought out the truth beneath the rising substance abuse.

Money sharing for ‘substance’

It’s not only the hangout parties where the young and happening lot of Nagpur go for monetary sharing! On a serious note, most of the city college goers and young professionals rather share their bucks over a shot of narcotic substance. According to market, a tola (10 grams) of charas costs Rs 2000 in Nagpur and Rs 2200 in Kamptee. The amount for 10 grams substance is usually shared by 10 youths who prepare 10 cigarettes out of the bought quantity. It also calls for five chillums for those have been into the habit for considerable period of time. The areas in Nagpur where the youths find the stuff include Chitar Oli, Gandhibagh, Mominpura, Gittikhadan, Katol Road, Tajbagh, Hasanbagh, Kamptee and other areas.

Inter-state ‘Charas chain‘

The Charas business has entered the second cpital city of Nagpur in a big way. The product of Northern States of India namely Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh border with Nepal, Assam etc, Charas made from marijuana (Ganja), finds its way to Nagpur in a well-planned network. From big dealers, the drug goes through many big and small hands and reaches Nagpur various clandestine transport. Several youths could be found running from one dealer’s house to another’s for having the stuff at any cost.

Sadhus, Fakirs big time consumers

Charas had been popular and remains so today, especially among sadhus, fakirs. A fakir said, “It is the age old tradition for sadhus, fakirs to have the chillums of. The Naga Sadhus, Aghoris and Tantric Bhairav sects smoke it freely as an integral part of their religious practice. Many smoke it in clay pipes called chillums, using a cotton cloth to cover the smoking end of the chillum and inserting a tightly packed pebble-sized ball of charas. Before lighting the chillum they will chant the many names of Gods in veneration. However, it is fast regaining the popularity among younger generation as a recreational drug of choice. It is freely available in several places.”

Is it ‘Bollywood Impact’?

PRAVINJI-RAUT

He first met the Chief Coordinator of Maharashtra Police-Citizens Coordination Committee Pravin Raut to solicit his views on the terrible menace that has gripped the youths, particularly the college-going students, in Nagpur.  “The drug business is thriving, thanks to the ignorant politicians and corrupt police. There is also no clear-cut policy of the government vis-à-vis anti-tobacco campaign. Bollywood movies openly show the lead actor making dialogue delivery while puffing charas filled cigarette, heroes and heroines in parties having a drug sends the wrong. Several hotels too are arranging rave parties with youths – both boys and girls – just for the matter of momentary joy. This is where crime takes its nasty entry. Only a concrete action on the part of all could kill the menace,” Raut reiterated.

Parents should remain alert

ADVOCATE-PARAG-BEZALAWAR

Parag Bezalwar, Member of the High Court Bar Association, Nagpur, put the blame on parents. “Parents are the first persons who come to know of bad habits of their grown-up children, especially the college-going children. Sudden spurt in expenses, abnormal behaviour, are some of the signs the parents must pick at the right time, and then the follow up action like digging out information about outer activities of their children. Frequent bunking of college classes, then dropping out of colleges, and finally giving up education are the ominous signs that point out the children are in the grip of drugs, specifically the Charas, the best bet for upper middle class-higher class youths.

Only drunken driving crackdown can’t help

Police launch only drunken driving but spare the drug driving as they did not have the necessary tool to detect consumption of drugs. The colleges too should carry out random checking to find out the menace among students and should take stringent actions in order to deter other students from having a go at the Charas shot.  Moreover, drug dealers are acquitted in most of the cases due to lack of evidence.

Raid the shortcomings

A tola of Charas could be said “legal” for personal use. This lacuna works for dealers as they never keep more than a tola with them to escape the conviction under Sections 29, 30 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Even in a rare case, conviction is made with 10-year jail. But the dealer comes out within 3-4 years as further conviction is based on evidence in higher courts,” Bezalwar lamented.

Launch anti-tobacco like drive

BALASAHEB-MESHRAM

The Maharashtra President of Bahujan Human Rights Balasaheb Meshram blamed police hands down for the spurt in charas menace. “Only police, and to some extent, the government, should be held responsible for increase in charas chaos. “I fail to understand why the Government has not been launching the sustained drive against the drugs on the lines of smoking/tobacco. Like the warning, Smoking/Chewing Tobacco kills/Smoking/Tobacco causes cancer, the Government should also carry out all out campaigns against the drugs like Charas, Marijuana, Brown Sugar, Cocaine which are killing many youths, triggering grave crimes like rapes, gang-rapes, robberies and also ruining hundreds of families. Police must crack down on drug dealers in order to free the society of many serious ills, Meshram demanded.

The deadly drug effect

-Psychedelic effects (hallucinations or altering of consciousness)

-Blood-shot eyes, heavy eye-lids and sometimes slurred speech.

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985

The cultivation, production, manufacture, possession, sale, purchase, transportation, warehousing, consumption, inter-State movement, transshipment and import and export of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is prohibited, except for medical or scientific purposes and in accordance with the terms and conditions of any license, permit or authorization given by the Government. Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur News: An educated but unemployed youth has lodged a complaint with Khaperkheda Police Station against a BJP labour leader in Khaperkheda and Bhim Sena President in Nagpur alleging cheating by both of them by doling out a bogus promise on providing job to him in a bank. The police complaint against the BJP leader created sensation and was talk of the town.

DSCN6398

According to sources, the youth Bhimrao Vithhalrao Zodape, resident of Ward No. 4, near Railway Post, in his complaint alleged that the BJP leader Rajesh Chavan, residing in front of Bhimrao’s house, took advantage of the well-to-do family as Bhimrao’s father is working in Western Coalfileds Limited in Pipla. Bhimrao was searching for a job for a long time. The BJP leader Rajesh Chavan told Bhimrao that the Bhim Sena President Dnyaneshwar Gorlewar, resident of Binaki Mangalwari, Nagpur, has a reach with top leaders and he could provide him a job in a bank. Since Rajesh Chavan has a big BJP Labour Union office in Ward No. 3 and many labourers visited the office for resolving their problems, Bhimrao and his father believed him. The BJP leader Chavan took Bhimrao to the Bhim Sena President Gorlewar in Nagpur and discussed about job in a bank to Bhimrao. Chavan told Bhimrao that he will have to pay a total of Rs 4 lakh for the favour out of which Rs 2 lakh will have to be paid in advance and remaining Rs 2 lakh in installments from his salary once the job is provided to him. Bhimrao, believing both the BJP leader Rajesh Chavan and the Bhim Sena President Dnyaneshwar Gorlewar, allegedly  paid them Rs 60,000 as an advance in 2010.

However, despite frequent enquiries by Bhimrao to the BJP leader Rajesh Chavan about the prospects of the job in bank, Chavan started excusing himself by giving unsatisfactory replies like Gorlewar is not in Nagpur, he is out of station and so and forth. Finally, Bhimrao came to know that he has been cheated and relieved of Rs 60,000 by the bogus promise of providing him job in a bank. He straightaway approached the Khaperkheda Police Station and lodged a complaint today (November 25) against the BJP leader Rajesh Chavan and the Bhim Sena President Dnyaneshwar Gorlewar for allegedly cheating and relieving him of Rs 60,000 by doling out bogus promise of providing job in a bank.

According to sources, as the news of police complaint against the BJP leader Rajesh Chavan spread in the town, several youths reached the police station complaining alleged cheating by Chavan and taking money from them. When the PI Sayyed Iqbal of Khaperkheda Police Station was contacted for his comments in the case, he replied that a probe would be conducted in the matter.

Jai-StambhNagpur News.

The History itself will go into History. The Historic Jai Stambha, the symbol of India’s Independence and a very popular and proud name and destination, synonymous with Nagpur Railway Station, will be removed from its place to pave the way for Ramjhula Over Bridge being constructed from Mayo Hospital end.

The Jai Stambha, for which the “Bhoomi Pujan” was performed by the then Chief Minister Ravishankar Shukla on August 15, 1947, is standing tall since that era. The Jai Stambhas were erected in every major city of the country to mark the Independence.

However, the Nagpur Mayor Anil Sole has ordered removal of the Jai Stambha after inspection of Ramjhula progress work as the historic symbol is proving to be a roadblock for smooth traffic flow and is also coming under Ramjhula which is being constructed right from Mayo Hospital to Jai Stambha. There were also dozens of suggestions to remove the Jai Stambha, erected right on the middle of the road, for easing the traffic problem. The Mayor has suggested the officials to erect the Jai Stambha near Octroi Post 12-A.

The construction of Ramjhula is going on war-footing and removal of Jai Stambha will pave the way for speedy completion of it as the symbol was the last hurdle for the Over Bridge. The spot was the major stumbling block for smooth traffic as people coming to railway station from Kingsway, Ganesh Temple and Mayo Hospital directions faced enormous difficulties and accidents were a routine.

The Mayor Anil Sole was accompanied by Central Nagpur MLA Vikas Kumbhare, West Nagpur MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane, senior social worker Umesh Chaube, Ravi Paigwar, City Engineer Sanjay Gaikwad, Estate Officer D D Jambhulkar, Executive Engineer of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) Samay Nikose, Development Officer Rahul Warke, Yencon Company’s Manager Sai Prasad, NMC Traffic Branch Officer Shakeel Niyazi, Rights Company’s Manager Rajkumar, Consultant Ajay Udapure and Traffic Police officials.

The staggering figure is within six months of the financial year

Set-TopNagpur News.

The Entertainment Tax Department has mopped up over Rs 3.5 crore from cable operators in the past six months after the digitalization was made mandatory by the Central Government. The recovery of the whopping amount was accounted for the set top boxes installed by the cable operators.

The above information was sought by an RTI activist. The Central Government move for compulsory installation of set top boxes under digitalization system was aimed at curbing non-payment of Entertainment Tax by cable operators in a big proportion. The mandatory installation of set top boxes has cleared the figure of cable connections to a great extent. Previously, the cable operators clandestinely suppressed the exact figure of cable connections thus robbing the Government of Entertainment Tax in a big way.

The RTI activist Abhay Kolarkar, resident of Padole Layout, sought the overall information from the Entertainment Tax Department about the current status on installation of set top boxes in the city. According to the reply, till now 4,34,980 set top boxes have been distributed or installed by the customers. Previously, the figure quoted by cable operators was much less thus clearly showing non-payment of Entertainment Tax in accordance with the number of cable connections. The RTI reply further informed that the number of cable operators in Nagpur stood at 606 who are functioning under four main cable operators.

The Entertainment Tax Department has so far recovered Rs 3.5 crore from cable operators which could climb to Rs 6-7 crore by the end of financial year. The Department has collected Rs 5.71 crore in 2012, Rs 4.09 crore in 2011 and Rs 3.90 crore as Entertainment Tax from the unorganized sector of cable operating. But after digitalization, the figure has already crossed Rs 3.5 crore within six months of the financial year.

Up till now such grants were awarded after the completion of the financial year and as such there was no proposal to award such grants so early. However citing the financial conditions after revenue loss in LBT,  Municipal Commissioner

Shyam Wardhane stressed hard for the said grant and personally moved the proposal table to table at Mumbai Mantralaya and got it sanctioned,  because of which other Corporation could also got the benefit of such early grants of additional stamp duty.

The total revenue of LBT including transit till 25 Nov 2013 is Rs. 168 Crore and stamp duty till October 2013 is Rs. 34.5 crore thus totalling Rs.  202.5 crore , as compared to Rs. 304 crore in ocroi till the same period. Due to the recent search actions by LBT department under the guidance of Commissioner and Dy. Commissioner,  It is expected that LBT and transit income excluding stamp duty for the current month would be around Rs 30 crore as against avg of Rs. 26 crore during last 3 months.

During the recent visits and searches at many of the dealers it is being noticed that many dealers are not following tha mandatory provisions of LBT rules such as keeping purchase register as per Rule 19 and issuing sale bills as per Rule 22. Time and again all dealers are appealed to follow LBT rules and make timely payments towards LBT. It is further appealed to all VAT dealers who  have not yet got LBT registration number shall contact LBT department at Santra Market office, as it is mandatory for all dealers to display the LBT registration certificate at the place of businesses.

Aarushi Verdict : City parents condemn Talwars, welcome judgment as fitting lesson for others

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

ArushiNagpur News.

As the special CBI court pronounced life imprisonment to the dentist couple Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar for killing their daughter Arushi and domestic help Hemraj, the parents back in Nagpur appeared much concerned with the judgment. As the case is related to killing one’s own daughter, all eyes rested upon the verdict as this double murder at Noida had rocked the nation and had been mired into mystery with many twists and turns.

In his 204-page order, the judge observed, “They have extirpated their own daughter who had hardly seen 14 summers of her life and the servant… in the breach of the commandment ‘thou shall not kill’ and injunction of Holy Quran ‘take not life which God has made sacred.” “The parents are the best protectors of their own children. That is the order of human nature but they have been freaks in the history of mankind where the father and mother became the killer of their own progeny,” the judge said.

Nagpur Today sought to speak the parents and experts to have their say over the entire incident and how they feel over Tuesday’s verdict.

Rajan Deshpande, a father of two daughters at Trimurti Nagar said, “I was shocked back then when suspicion was pointed towards Talwars. I wondered how can one murder their daughter in such a brutal manner as the forensic report suggested that the murder was either committed by a butcher or a doctor. I am truly appreciative of the judgment passed in this particular case that disturbed many parents across the nation.”

Tara Chandel, a school teacher said that being a nuclear family she has to leave her daughters to take care of themselves at home. “We cannot keep a vigil round the clock and even if we could then it is totally unjustified to ransack their privacy. But the act of killing one’s one daughter even if for the sake of honor cannot be forgiven either in the eyes of justice or society. I fully stand by the verdict. I think these parents must be repenting for their own ill doings.”

Sidhharth Biswas, a banker, recently got his daughter married. He was told by his daughter that the guy she is in love does not belong to their caste but insisted on marrying him. Biswas then worked upon finding out the antecedents of guy and found that the guy is doing fine in his profession. “Though I was staunch opponent of marrying my daughter out of caste but I realized that my one wrong step would ruin many lives including that of his daughter. Now I feel contented at the decision of marrying off my daughter to the groom of her choice. Tempers don’t work when it comes to dealing with our own blood. Talwars must have committed the murder in the rage of the moment and look where they stand today. They have lost their only daughter and now cool their heels behind the bars for rest of their lives,” said Biswas.

Shruti Khandale, a housewife said that she welcome the verdict and see it as a lesson for others in the past. “The case is one of the worst examples of honor killings but no law in nature or legal corridors could justify this act. It’s a blot on the relationship between parents and children. I condemned their act and wish for death sentence to them.”

Mahant Rahangdale, a doctor termed the verdict as the landmark decision. He said that not only it’s the unethical practice to misuse professional expertise to murder someone. And to use it for murdering one’s own daughter is just disgusting, he added.

Nagpur News: After EOW has arrested directors of ‘Shreesurya Group’ under charges of cheating  over 10,000 investors from farm crisis hit Vidarbha and Marathwada,  luring them with towering return. The ponzi schemes by this group turned out to be fraud as the investors are now running from pillar to post to their money back. The same fate appears to be in the offing for one such company Wasankar Wealth Management being run by Dr. Prashant Wasankar here.

Wasankar gave post dated cheques

It surfaced that Wasankar Wealth Management company has eroded the hard earn money of  over 2000 innocent  people by offering them quantum hike in their sum within short span of time.  The documents in possession of Nagpur Today showed that Wasankar charged huge amount membership as much as Rs. 1 lakh per annum and collected over Rs 2000 crore. He assured the depositors by giving them post dated cheques offering around 30% interest on deposit. A source close to the organization revealed, “Forget the interest, now investors are finding it tough to get back their own money back.”

Untitled-1 (3)

CM urged to interfere

Kishore Tiwari of  Vidarbha Janandolan  Samiti (VJAS) informed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Prathiraj Chavan has been urged to initiate the action against  Wasankar Group promoters under Maharashtra protection of investors deposit act 1999 (MPID) in order to save these investors. In a press release Tiwari said, “The greed of higher return is leading to victimization of innocent. Most of the investors are middle class pensioners. Hence we are urging CM to have urgent intervention to get these pensioners their actual sum atleast. We have received many complaints about Dr. Prashant Wasankar denying pay back, citing financial crisis.”

Tiwari insisted that the state should give him financial bailout package as all illegal activities of Wasankar was promoted and protected by babus, police and other hostile pillars of democracy.

Expanded to Australia, Singapore

In a letter to CM Tiwari said that Dr. Prashant Wasankar  has been working in Nagpur as sub-broker of BSE-NSE capital market since last 23 years. He has earned the confidence of investors to larger extent and has been writing in local newspapers on wealth creation solutions. He managed to arrange investors meet in all metros of India and abroad and also having active operation in Australia and Singapore but his real activities of  running fishy and illegal deposits schemes offering unbelievable interest rates were reported in February this year.

When Shreesurya scam was exposed first by Nagpur Today, cracks started appearing in the trust that people had in Wasankar. Since then, panic grew large among investors who lined up to get their money back. It was then that investors realized they have been dumped and cheated by fraudulent misleading investment advices given by Dr.Prashant Wasankar.  Eventually, hordes of investors approached VJAS to  get back their hard earned money back.

Promissory notes, cheques point dubious detail

VJAS has also attached promissory notes and cheques given by Wasankar and also the interest chart signed by himself. This also proposed the schemes that offer to double the money within 30 months along with  a membership proposal that required the people to deposit 1 lakh rupees. Later, Dr.Prashant Wasankar failed to return the money.  He has been asking the investors to wait citing recession in share market while the gullible investors keep visiting the office of  Wasankar Group. In the letter to the Chief Minister,  VJAS has drawn the attention of administration that all deposits collected by Wasankar’s company are illegal and has no legitimate status where as he has been fully protected by local Police Authorities, SEBI, RBI, Govt. of Maharashtra etc. The pattern of functioning of Wasankar Wealth Management Group  is nothing but money laundering activities and it has international network too, Tiwari  alleged.

Wasankar’s bankruptcy reported earlier

Recently the alleged  illegal activities and bankruptcy  of Wasankar group was reported in electronic and print media but administration and police turned blind eye that time too. But now investors are gathering before the office of Wasankar Group  and crying for money. However they are finding themselves helpless as administration is yet to take the matter seriously.

Authorities must act before it’s too late

Sameer Joshi has duped innocent investors of around Rs.240 crore earlier. Pramod Agarwal through his dubious money doubling scheme duped thousands of investors to tune  of Rs 100 crore on the name of Mahadev Land Developers and  Ullas Khaire had dumped  around 1 lakh people of Rs 1,100 crore and now this Wasankar Group  likely to repeat the same story. “Hence we are urging CM to initiate action under  Maharashtra protection of investors deposit act 1999 (MPID)  against  Wasankar Group  Promoters so that innocent investors hard earned money is protected,” Kishore Tiwari added.
