Nagpur News

Today Youth Congress workers, led by their leader, YC general secretary, Kunal Puri called on Maharashtra Medical Education minister, Jeetendra Awhad and informed him about the mal practices and shortcomings of Government Medical College, Nagpur, which was once second number college and in Asia. Dean of medical college, Dr R M Powar was also present on the occasion. A memorandum was also submitted listing all those deficiencies.

It was pointed out that no fresh recruitment of class IV workers has taken place since 2005 and the workers employed by contractor have also not received renewal of the contract. Many class IV workers have retired since then. Due to all this patients relatives have to even carry the stretchers when there is any emergency. As there is no proper up keep there is squalor everywhere.

Patients and their relatives do not get any information about government schemes available for poor patients. National Insurance Company supplies medicines at government hospitals but the patients are asked to bring medicines from outside. All such malpractices are bringing bad name to Congress rule in the state, as patients fail to get proper treatment.

Youth Congress
All tests are available at medical college hospital, but patients are always referred to outside pathology labs. Private blood banks also flourish due to malfunctioning of blood banks here.

Even after pointing out all such things dean or the administration has not done anything about this, informs Kunal Puri. Demonstrations, hunger strike too have failed to move hospital administration, said Puri. Same is the case with Super Speciality Hospital, same malpractices are prevalent there too.

When people fail to get relief they blame the ruling government and that is how Congress is not in good books of people he pointed out and demanded immediate steps for rectifying this.

Putting hurdles in anti-encroachment drive undertaken by NMC has proved costly for former MLA Anees Ahmed as he has been booked by police. Anees Ahmed faced the police action along with 11 others.

According to police, the NMC demolition squad, led by Deputy Engineer Arun Baburao Mogarkar (56), had undertaken an anti-encroachment drive in Chhoti Khadan area of Hansapuri in Nagpur. The squad was busy in demolishing encroachments on the road and unauthorized constructions adjacent to the wall of a primary school. At the same time, Anees Ahmed and others including former Corporator Zulfikar Bhutto, Akash Gaur, Ashish Gaur, Rahul Barmaiyya, Gopal Pattanam, Ravi Gaur, Manoj Gaur, Madan Gaur, Sunil Gaur, Nikunj Gaur and Sandeep Gaur arrived at the spot and started heckling the NMC men and put hurdles in anti-encroachment drive. The accused not only put hurdles in official duty but also indulged in abusing and beating the employees of NMC. Anees Ahmed and other accused reportedly doled out life threats to the squad men if the anti-encroachment drive is not stopped. The accused even pelted stones and damaged the glasses of JCB machine.

Engineering colleges showing undue haste in admitting students even before results are out

Nagpur News: In what could be termed only as undue haste and greed for money, many engineering colleges in the city are said to be giving admissions to the students for the next higher class even before the results are declared.

Sources among the students said that annual fees are being charged from the students, depending on the branch of study. The students have also been informed that failing to pay the fees now, will result in the amount increasing (late fee to be added to that).

Similar instances have occurred in the past when the students had taken provisional admissions in the next class but had failed in the previous examinations. This also complicates other aspects of the academics. To mention a few, the engineering colleges are not learning from their past mistakes, which led to many demonstrations and protests by students  for admissions in the next class in the name of carry-on.

For the past two years, the university is getting a very bad name because of the engineering students agitation on the issue of admissions.

The results of the summer 2014 are still not declared, then how can these colleges so confidently giving admissions? Are they thinking that the students will certainly pass or will at least get ATKT. If the students fail then their fees are carried forward until they pass for the next class.

This attitude of the colleges will again bring forth the situation of carry-on and jumping demands by the affected students.

The colleges on their part have their own version of giving admissions before results are out. They blame the university for not declaring the results on time. They claim that “Because of late results, the students are not able to complete annual educational term. Therefore we give provisional admissions so that the students do not lose on classes.”

But what these colleges are opining is very vague. This attitude of theirs had created the carry-on mess in the past aslo.

These colleges should not forget these factors and keeping this in mind should not hurry for admissions. They should wait for the results to be declared and avoid the wrath of students in future.

High-level probe may solve mystery shrouding recovery of skeleton, nail Sonegaon cops, too

A skeleton is likely to tell his tale of woes and nail the police too for the bungle in probe. The recovery of skeletal remains in Manish Nagar area of Nagpur and subsequent inept handling of the sensitive matter by Sonegaon cops has drawn the attention of higher police officials. The Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Saxena has reportedly ordered a thorough investigation into the matter and it will be done by DCP Zone-1 Abhinash Kumar. The probe is likely to solve the mystery shrouding the recovery of the skeletal remains and also put Sonegaon police in a fix.

It may be recalled, Nagpur Today had run the report titled “Recovery of skeleton, bungling probe expose Sonegaon cops, ‘operation’ raises eyebrows” wherein it was stated: A skeleton has exposed more skeletons in police cupboard. A skeleton has exposed undutiful and irresponsible attitude of a Police Inspector in handling a sensitive matter. Nagpur city was abuzz when the skeletal remains were recovered from a gutter in the premises of an apartment in Manish Nagar some days ago. But the handling of the situation by police has raised more questions than the answers. An unidentified caller had informed the Police Control Room about 20-25 days ago that skeletal remains were noticed at the gutter in Manish Nagar. The Control Room in return relayed the information to Sonegaon Police Station. Subsequently, Police Inspector R P Shah and his team reached the spot to investigate the matter. The police retrieved the skeletal remains but shockingly buried the skeleton nearby railway track without informing the higher authorities, specifically the forensic experts. The police even did not send the skeletal remains to the Forensic Lab for further investigation. Had the PI Shah carried out a detailed and scientific probe into the recovery of the skeletal remains the mystery shrouding the finding could have been solved and truth dug out. But the undutiful attitude of Police Inspector Shah has thrown the probe into the gutter itself, sources in police said.

At the time of retrieval and burial of skeletal remains, 5-6 policemen including a woman police constable, two builder brothers, a plumber and some families residing in the apartment were present. The skeletal remains were buried near the railway track one kilometer away from the spot. According sources, a bunch of labourers from a nearby area was summoned for burial of the skeletal remains. The sacks in which the remains were taken to the burial spot were thrown nearby carelessly and were later taken away by rag pickers. However, before burial of the skeletal remains, Police Inspector R P Shah did not make efforts to inform higher-ups nor forensic experts for DNA mapping. He should have at least preserved bone marrow and other vital parts that could have revealed whether the skeletal remains were of male or female. This botched operation on the part of Sonegaon police has put them under suspicion and in the book of top police officials.

However, a thorough investigation by the high-profile DCP Abhinash Kumar is likely to blow the cover wrapping the entire episode.

Nagpur News

The long tussle between a manufacturing company and workers’ union and intolerable exploitation resulted in a strong labour force hitting streets for justice on Saturday, June 28. A large number of labourers working in Ankit Pulps & Boards Pvt. Ltd, situated on Kamptee Road, Nagpur, resorted to agitation to press for their various demands.

Ankit Pulps & Boards Pvt. Ltd deals in manufacturing of pharmaceutical powders and other raw material like Cellulose Powder, Alpha Cellulose Powder – Filter grade, Cellulose Fibre, Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC), Powdered Cellulose, Maize Starch, etc. Ankit Pulps has State-of-the-art Technology for the production of Cellulose Powder (CP), Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC), filter grade alpha cellulose, Cellulose Fibre, Maize Starch, Powdered Cellulose etc. used in welding electrode industries, pharmaceutical industries, Caustic Soda Industries etc.
Before hitting the streets, the workers and labourers had held meetings with management of the company and discussed the problems confronting them several times. But in vain. Finally, the employees knocked the doors of Sonu Sharma, District Unit President of Bharatiya Janata Party Kamgar Mahasangh. Sonu Sharma said the company Directors Anil Agrawal and Rajesh Agrawal have shown only 50 labourers in the muster roll whereas more than 200 labourers were working in the company. Moreover, the company was resorting to exploitation of workers like deducting company’s share of provident fund from labourers’ salaries and even the ESIC share of company was deducted from labourers’ salaries. The wages paid to the workers are also far less than the prescribed minimum wages, said Sharma.

Sharma further said that after receiving complaints from labourers, the Kamgar Mahasangh held several rounds of meetings with the company directors but the problems could not be hammered out. Finally, the angry employees have started an agitation in front of the company. The company has been given an ultimatum to resolve the problems till Tuesday. The further course of action will be decided in the meeting of workers to be held on Sunday (June 29), said Sharma.

According to sources, a complaint against 3 officials of the company had already been lodged with Yashodhara Police Station for misbehaviour with the employees. On the other hand, the company has blamed the labourers for causing loss of Rs 70 lakh by mishandling the boiler functioning. Moreover, another loss of Rs 80 lakh was caused by the workers when they mixed carbon in the material at the time of packing. This resulted in rejection of the material by the purchasing companies. Therefore the company has no plan to reappoint the workers who have caused losses, clarified the company while commenting on the development.

At present, the company is running the manufacture business with the help of 50 workers who have been shown on muster roll and 50 contract labourers, sources said. The Regional Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party Kamgar Mahasangh Tekchand Savarkar has said the issue is being handled by local office bearers and no advise has so far been sought from them. When the situation goes out of hand and pressure mounts on local leaders, the role of top leaders might come into play. The local MLA Chandrashekhar Bawankule has also been apprised of the situation but so far he has not initiated any move, said Savarkar.

A bottle of liquor and a glass was also found from the house.

The neighbors noticed a foul smell emanating from the flat for the past two days, so they sent their watchman to the Nandanvan Police Station. A Charlie Commando accompanied the watchman and when they broke the door, noticed the dead body of Zakir Pathan.

Sources also revealed that he had committed suicide since the door was locked from within. However, others who knew him to be a dreaded goon said that he would never commit suicide. A mother-daughter duo, who was accused of attempting to crush some MNS activists under their car in Futala area, tried to turn the tables on the MNS activists themselves. Addressing a press conference on Saturday (June 28), Naina Kilor, mother of Rajasi, categorically blamed the activists for the fracas and tried to come clean.

It may be recalled, Nagpur Today had flashed a report headlined “Drunk girl creates ruckus in Futala, tries to knock down MNS activists” wherein it was reported: A drunk girl from an influential family hit five youths with her car in Futala area on Friday(June 27) night. Thereafter, the girl created a ruckus and even abused the youths. When activists of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena tried to stop the girl from misbehaving, she made an attempt to run her car over them. Finally, the MNS activists caught hold of her and handed her over to Ambazari police. Two youths Mangesh Dongre and Chaudhary sustained injuries when the girl hit them with her car. They underwent treatment at a private hospital in Ravi Nagar.

“I strongly deny the allegations leveled against me and my daughter in connection with the incident that occurred on June 27 on Amravati Road. All the allegations against us are false and the MNS activists unnecessarily created chaos just to derive political benefit out of nothing. It was not me or my daughter who was drunk but the MNS activists were drunk; they abused, misbehaved and pressured us to accept the fault when we were in fact innocent” said Naina Kilor who was in the car when the accident took place between her car and the two youths who were riding a bike on Amravati road.

“We met Joint CP Sanjay Saxena and told him about the whole episode. Ambazari police have registered a complaint against six MNS activists who were involved in molesting me and my daughter. Police have registered offences under Section 143 for unlawful assembly, under Section 506 for using abusive language, under Section 506 for criminal intimidation and under Section 294 for indulging in obscene act in public place against the MNS activists,” said Naina Kilor.

Naina Kilor added that when she reached Ambazari Police Station, she parked her car outside the police station and forgot to lock the car. The MNS activists took the advantage of the situation and put a bottle of liquor in my car and told police that her daughter is drunk. However, the test done by the police clearly revealed that my daughter was not in the influence of liquor. Even Ambazari police did not file complaint of drunk drive against them. Naina Kilor also said that she is upset with the media also who published the news that my daughter was drunk and driving because of which accident took place.

According to Naina Kilor, the activists asked her to buy a new Activa for them and in return they will withdraw the complaint back. “However, I refused because I was not wrong.”

With political air changing, Mukul Wasnik too eyes CM’s post, opens a “battlefront” in Delhi

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Mukul-WasnikNagpur News.

As soon as the reports that Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is being replaced started circulating, aspirants too started jumping into the hot race to grab the coveted post. Maharashtra would be witnessing Assembly elections within 3-4 months. And after suffering a humiliating defeat in Lok Sabha elections, Congress high command started mulling replacement of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in order to recover the lost ground. The move has now triggered a wrestling among the aspirants to be at the helm and for the first time, Dalit leader Mukul Wasnik has thrown his hat in the ring. In fact, Wasnik, who contested the Lok Sabha poll from Ramtek seat but lost, has laid a siege in Delhi and leaving no stone unturned to convince the Congress high command on his claim.

The past few months have seen a leader or two of other political parties announcing candidature for the Chief Minister’s post preposterously thinking victory for their parties in the Assembly elections. (Shiv Sena’s Udhhav Thackeray and MNS’ Raj Thackeray have staked claim for CM’s post if their parties record handsome wins). Now, Wasnik, instead of accepting defeat in the Lok Sabha poll humbly, taking the advantage of current situation and giving an impetus to his sagging political career. The Chief Minister’s post would definitely suffice his ambitions, thinks the Dalit leader. Apart from Udhhav and Raj Thackeray who have made their intentions clear, others who are likely in the race for CM’s post include NCP’s Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule, RPI-A’s Ramdas Athawale, BJP’s Nitin Gadkari and Devendra Fadnavis and many others.

However, Congress high command’s line of thinking is somewhat different, if media reports are to be believed. The party is reportedly working on names of Ashok Chavan, Narayan Rane, Patangrao Kadam and even Sushilkumar Shinde. Some of these leaders have been active for the past 1 or two years and waiting for an opportunity to displace Prithviraj Chavan. But this time, Mukul Wasnik has also reportedly thrown his hat in the ring and is camping in Delhi with Dalit card, according to sources.

According to sources, this is for the first time that a Congress leader has opened his cards and staked claim for Chief Minister’s post even before the elections. Close associates of Wasnik have said that the leader has opened a front in Delhi and playing his every move strategically. Wasnik’s first potent move is to seek Assembly poll tickets to his 25-30 close aides from winnable seats as their victory could play an important role in staking claim for the top post and subsequently putting him in the saddle. The seats include 4 seats of Nagpur District. If Congress bags more seats than NCP, the Chief Minister would of Congress and would be nominated by Delhi order. In this case, Wasnik is hoping that his name could be tossed by Congress leadership and his efforts are targeted in the same direction.

In Ramtek, the political atmosphere post-Lok Sabha poll has seen dramatic change. The aspirants for Assembly poll ticket for Ramtek seat, in a veiled warning, have said that only local candidate should be fielded from the constituency. No other candidate than Sunil Kedar would be tolerated is the line of the warning. Other young candidates who are in the line include Gajju Yadav, Prashant Madhukar Kimmatkar, Mahesh Anandrao Mahajan, Naresh Barve, Chandrapal Chaukse, and Amol Ranjit Deshmukh. Now, it would be interesting to see which card Wasnik plays in selecting the candidate who could be also helpful in his avid ambition to grab Chief Minister’s post.

With winds of Assembly elections in Maharashtra started blowing in right direction, the political atmosphere in Nagpur City, which consists of six Assembly constituencies, has started to blow hot and blow cold on ticket front. Every political party has gone abuzz and weighing pros and cons of ticket distribution regardless of swarms of seekers. No party has been left untouched by dilemma and head-scratching as aspirants outnumber in nightmarish proportions. Ticket distribution is turning out to be a nightmare for all the major parties.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have put their heads down and making strategies, calculating equations, and coming clear for the tickets with facts and figures under their sleeves. But this time, RSS is likely to play a crucial role in handing over of tickets and this fact could upset the carts of many aspirants, both present MLAs and new faces. Out of six Nagpur City seats, BJP fields candidates in five while one seat is allotted to its partner Shiv Sena. But this time, the possibility of BJP contesting all the six seats cannot be ruled out if the sterling performance by the party in Lok Sabha is any indication.

According to sources, top RSS workers had scanned all the 12 Assembly constituencies in Nagpur District and have reportedly prepared a list of candidates, specifically the seats from where BJP won the last election. According to the RSS list, Krishna Khopde, present MLA from East Nagpur is likely to be retained. However, a change of face is on the anvil in West Nagpur and Central Nagpur constituencies. The RSS think-tank is also zeroing on former IFS officer Madhusudan Gavai for North Nagpur, Chhotu Bhoyar for South Nagpur and Devendra Fadnavis for South-West Nagpur seat again. But a top BJP leader has reportedly made up his mind to retain Sudhakar Deshmukh from West Nagpur and field Pravin Datke or Girish Vyas from Central Nagpur, Sandeep Gavai or Sandeep Jadhav from North Nagpur constituency, said the sources. Surprisingly, daughter-in-law of Nasikrao Tirpude and former NMC officer Jambhulkar are also reportedly trying to jump into the fray from North Nagpur constituency on BJP ticket.

However, both RSS and BJP, this time, are determined and making all out efforts to pocket the North Nagpur seat that has been eluding them since the past many elections.

The present equation of 12 seats in Nagpur District is as follows:

• Six seats are in Nagpur City and six seats in Nagpur Rural

• Congress contests 10 seats while its ally NCP contests 2 seats

• BJP fields its candidates in 9 constituencies and Shiv Sena in 3.

• The constituencies in Nagpur City are North Nagpur, South Nagpur, East Nagpur, West Nagpur, South-West Nagpur, and Central Nagpur.

• Seats in Nagpur Rural are Kamptee, Ramtek, Katol, Saoner, Hingna and Umred.

A man has not only lost Rs 40,000 but his bride-to-be ditched him and ran away. Police have booked three persons including two women in this connection.

According to police, the complainant Girishbhai Dhanjibhai Jhapda (37), resident of Plot No. 143, Vishwakarma Society, Bawdi, Rajkot (Gujarat) had arrived in Nagpur for some domestic work. During his stay in city, Girishbhai got acquainted with a woman Geetabai. After some days, Geetabai arranged a meeting between Girishbhai and a girl named Chhaya for marriage purpose. Subsequent, Girishbhai gave his nod for marriage with Chhaya. In exchange, Girishbhai agreed to give Rs 40,000 to Geetabai for her “good act.” Accordingly, on 27.6.2014, Chhaya accompanied Girishbhai and reached Chawla Travels near Manas Chowk in Sitabuldi for leaving for Gujarat. At the same time, Geetabai sent another accused named Bablu for taking money from Girishbhai. As decided, he handed over Rs 40,000 to Bablu. However, Girishbhai shortly found Chhaya missing from the spot. Both Bablu and Chhaya fled the scene as soon as the money was received. Attempts to trace both the accused proved in vain. Finally, the disappointed and cheated Girishbhai lodged a complaint with Sitabuldi Police Station against the three accused. PSI Shejav has booked Geetabai, Chhaya and Bablu under Sections 420, 34 of the IPC and is searching for them.
