Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Devendra Fadnavis is set to be the chief minister of Maharashtra for the second term. Fadnavis was elected as the leader of the Maharashtra BJP legislative party today.

Crediting the Shiv Sena chief Uddav Thackeray for the alliance’s win in the Maharashtra state polls, he conceded that there were differences with the ally but it would be sorted out soon.

“This mandate is surely for ‘mahayuti’ (BJP-Shiv Sena alliance) as we sought votes for the ‘mahayuti’. People also voted for it. So there should be not doubt. It will be a ‘mahayuti’ govt,” he said.

The Sena has refused to budge on its demands for a “50:50” formula of rotational chief ministership in Maharashtra, which it said had been discussed with the BJP earlier this year.

Fadnavis, 49, has earlier said he would be Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a full term and no plan to split the five-year term was agreed upon with the Sena, which is demanding an equal share of power after state polls.

Nagpur: The work of the Sitabuldi to Prajapati Nagar corridor of Maha Metro is under way at a rapid pace. Construction work has begun on this route. Barricades in most areas have been removed during construction on this route. Barricades were erected to prevent any trouble for those travelling through the area while the project was in progress. But as the work of the project has been completed in many areas, the barricades have been removed.

Work on the metro route between Sitabuldi to Prajapati Nagar has been completed and 79% of the Viaduct work has also been completed. A total of 9 metro stations are proposed on this route of 8.3km between Sitabuldi Interchange to Prajapati Nagar Metro Station namely Cotton Market, Nagpur Railway Station, Dosar Vaishya Chowk, Agrasen Chowk, Chitar Oli, Telephone Exchange Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk, Vaishnodevi Chowk and Prajapati Nagar.

Central Avenue is a major route in the east and west areas of Nagpur. Besides this metro route, the main trading areas are Gandhibagh, Itwari, Maskasath, etc. Transportation is important for these areas and this is definitely going to be done through the metro service. Since Nagpur’s Central Avenue area is commercial in nature, a large number of vehicles pass through and traffic is usually heavy.

As the city of Nagpur is expanding, the traffic on this route also increased steadily. Due to the traffic congestion in the market, the Metro took great care when implementing the project. It will now be easier for the people to visit or access places such as Mayo Hospital, Railway Station, Cotton Market, Itwari Bazaar etc after the commencement of metro on this route.

Nagpur: Continuing its action against notorious criminal Santosh Ambekar, Lakadganj police on Wednesday booked him and his two nephews Nilesh and Shailesh Kedar in two more cases of extortion. The trio has been allegedly booked for demanding extortion money from Mangaldeep Nagar based man. Interestingly, the victim Arvind Suresh Yadav is the relative of accused. The accused trio has also been booked for defrauding and threatening Hivari Nagar based businessman.

Yadav (35), a resident of Mangaldeep Nagar, on Besa-Manewada road, had reportedly borrowed loan of Rs 20 lakh from Ambekar to buy a plot in Umred district. However, within a month Ambekar sought his money back with interest from Yadav. When Yadav expressed his inconvenience to pay the money back given short time, Ambekar then sought half share of the plot. So save then plot, Yadav somehow managed Rs 20.50 lakh and paid to Ambekar. But, the fraud told Yadav that he has earned hefty profit on his money so he has to pay Rs 3.6 lakh more or else he will eliminate the complainant. Hence left with no options, Yadav paid the money to Ambekar.

However, after couple of weeks Ambekar again approached Yadav, on the pretext that he is yet to pay interest on the given money and the amount had gone up to Rs 15 lakh. When Yadav refused to pay the money, Ambekar forcefully took papers of Yadav’s house and gave it to his nephews as mortgage in exchange of paying Yadav’s debt. The trio then sought Rs 75,000 from complainant by threatening him with dire consequences.

Similarly, the accused trio have also duped Hivari Nagar based Mayur Shantabhai Monpara Patel (34) of Rs 9 lakh. Mayur who owns a ceramic-tile business was also threatened when he sought money from Ambekar.

Based on the complaint lodged by Yadav and Mayur Lakadganj police have booked accused Ambekar and his two nephews under relevant Sections of the IPC.

Ambekar and his 11 accomplices have been charged under MCOCA this month for duping businessman of Rs five crore in a property deal and also issuing threats to him for extortion of Rs one crore. Soon after, a series of offences were registered against him within a fortnight at Lakadganj, Ambazari, Sonegaon and Tehsil police stations.
